Bistro Beaux is a just OK place to eat lunch or some cocktail for after dinner. I think the pasta here is almost same as Curry House. Interesting place to visit once in a while. read more

This is a must-try place. Everything on the menu is good with great selections of alcohol. Even their miso soup is the best. Some of the dishes I crave the most from here are Greek Salad, Mentaiko pasta, Torrance Chip and Seafood Gratin. Katsu-san is the owner and chef himself. This place is great. The spicy cod roe and the squid ink pastas were awesome. The portions where not as big but I am 6'2 + 200 pounds of joy therefore I know I eat more than the average. Great selection of whiskey and they open late. Will come back. read more

This is one of those restaurants that are, for some reason, under the radar (perhaps it's regarded more as a bar/pub) and unassuming, but are simply excellent, just as good as it gets. The fare is Japanese fusion, with a surprisingly authentic touch of Italian flavor (more authentic than in many self-declared "Italian" restaurants) in many of their dishes. I have been here quite often and tried a sizeable portion of their menu: Most of it is tapas-style, not big portions, but very reasonably priced and of very, very consistent quality. Just can't go wrong with anything. In particular, their pastas are excellent (I especially recommend the spicy pollock spaghetti), and so are their cold plates (the greek seafood salad as well as the prosciutto and mozzarella are a must). Also, they have 4-5 specials every day and it's great stuff (I especially recommend the salmon with chopped fresh wasabi to the sashimi lovers). They're open until late, which is great, and also sport a good selection of beers and wines + full bar. read more

I am in love with this nice, lounge-like restaurant/bar! It's one of underground those hidden gems that you'll only find out about from locals. They have tasty Japanese dishes that are put together beautifully. They have a lot of Japanese spaghetti here and I got the mushroom & mentaiko spaghetti! Mmmmmm delish! The royal sausage, grilled chicken with mustard, large cut french fries, and torrance chips as well. All really good! The torrance chips are homemade with their own light sour cream like seafood dip. The prices are fair for the quality of food you get. We also got the frozen creme brulee (catamaran) for dessert. I never had creme brulee frozen like that! So unique, I loved it! I had a beer and the American Lemonade (lemonade + wine) drink &both were so easy to drink. My friends and I also got the kombu tea with ume which is a super japanese drink. It is salty and warm so I don't know if others will like it. It was good though! I just don't know if I'll recommend to others. I went with two other people that ordered several beers and sochu mixes as well and the total came out to be around $107 which isn't bad considering the amount we ordered! New favorite spot in the torrance area :) Great place to grab a drink and catch up with some old friends. read more

It felt like going into a warehouse. Concrete and metal adorn the room, like an unfinished building site. I thought for a moment that the people inside were wearing hard hats and were actually on a break from drilling the floor, but then you see sparse tables and chairs and a long bar on the opposite side of the room and so it hits you that it's actually a place to eat and drink...a japanese bar! This was the first japanese bar I visited, but I had been to many other bars(non japanese that is) and right away noticed the difference. At the bar, there's a certain ceremony with the way drinks are served. The bartender was this charming twenty something guy who gracefullys serves you the drink and artfully carves each ice he puts in your glass. And once he pours your drink, he sets the bottle in front of you so you can see and inspect the label...it was a welcome change from the usual, "what do you want; what can i get you"; clank! Fizz! Slam! That's $9. Do you want to keep it open?" routine. Plus they had this most delightful cinzano rosso--a famous brand of the sweet vermouth variety. One sip of this and i went into some kind of hallucinogenic giggle trip. It was really that good! It's a great alternative to porto or sherry. Vermouth or wermut (in german) is a fortified wine (meaning additional alcohol usually brandy has been added) and is flavored with special herbs and spices so it's very aromatic and quite an addictive experience. I definitely had a great time with my drinks, but next time I'll make sure to try their appetizers. I heard that the ume daikon, uni with mushrooms and beef tataki salad are great. read more

This place is one of my favorite places in Torrance - the food here is amazing, they have a full bar and are open late, even on weeknights (rare in this area). I love the Sledgehammer Cab they carry here, it's really hard to find (trust me, I've looked) and I always get at least a glass. Their pasta is always cooked perfectly/al dente - my favorites are the carbonara, meat sauce and ketchup one. I also love the seafood doria (baked rice/cheese dish), as well as the eryngii (mushroom with delicious sake/butter sauce), torrance chips (seafood/mayo/wasabi dip with chips) and prosciutto pizza as appetizers. Squid ink pasta was good, it's just not my thing. I think everything I've had here though has been delicious/great and the prices are reasonable. And of course the catarana (frozen creme brulee) is unique and so so good, no matter how full I am, I always have to get this at the end of the meal! Service is also good, place can get packed sometimes...seems like they have a lot of regular Japanese customers/businessmen, but they do take reservations so I've never had to wait. read more

Saw this place was recommended for late night. My girlfriend and I arrived at 915. Chain link fences inside the restaurant makes you feel either like a kid at a playground or an adult in confinement. You choose 10-15 minutes for drinks lemon drop martini and green tea. Green tea was awful. Tasted like water from boiled asparagus. Lemon drop martini was the highlight of the meal. They forgot to sugar the rim of the glass though. I ordered 2 cups if the miso clam soup and 2 filet with soy sauce medium rare for my girlfriend and I. 20 minutes for the soup and she only brought 1. I asked whwre the other was. She said "only ordered 1. Sorry." Oooookay.... we shared the soup, since I didn't want to wait for another to be made. It was miso soup with clam in it. On a scale of 1-10 it was a 3. 20 minutes later she arrived with one plate of filet. 5 slices, field greens 1 cherry tomato and way too much daikon. . 22 bucks. I asked where the other plate was. She said "o, you only order 1" I said NO. I order 2. And put my fingers up in the sign of 2. Then i realized oh, that's right. This is a common japanese sign that is like giving a thumbs up or a wave. She apologized and said I'll get you another right away. One 6 Oz filet should take 7 to 10 minutes to cook medium rare. 25 minutes later it hits the table. It was good and cooked correctly. Not great. Over salted and covered in sauce. Not 22 bucks worth and definitely not worth an hour wait. At the completion of the meal, another waitress offered us water (I think our former waitress was too embarrassed to return to the table) I hadn't had a sip of my green tea since the soup, almost an hour ago. Finally I got something good. Water. It took 15 minutes to get the check and 5 minutes to get change. We left at 1110. Wasted 2 hours of my night for mediocre food and garbage service. I got home. Was going to bed and at 1230 am had to run to the toilet. Was up until 130 with Diarrhea. Don't waste your time here. Notice the names of the people who give this place 5 stars and the people who dont. See a pattern? I do. read more
