Went on a weekday for lunch. The place is enticing, and super cute. Upon entry, you see a gorgeous display for freshly baked tarts and pastries. I loved the marble-top tables. The service was great, and food delicious! I had the breakfast croissant - the gruyere on it was decadent - and apple juice. It was seriously the best apple juice I ever had! I asked about it, and I guess they handpress all their apple juice, using fuji apples. Yum. I think the next time I will "have to try" the Croque Monsieur. Would definitely go back. read more

since most places outside of NYC tend to close EARLY on weekdays, we thought we hit the lottery when we stumbled upon what appeared to be a little gem. the restaurant was welcoming and felt very homey as we settled in after a long day.. and thats where our positive dining experience ended. our waitress couldn't be bothered at all for any service beyond water and was unhelpful when it came to answering our questions regarding certain menu items. i normally don't practice age-ism (or try NOT to, at least. lmao) but these girls appeared like they were on their spring break who didn't give a sh*t and needed to just make rent. by the time dessert rolled around, i had already decided versailles not worthy of returning... but, wait!! hold that thought! our desserts were absolutely AMAZING!! we tried a chocolate trio cake, a strawberry montemarte cake, and some sort of raspberry mousse cake which were ALL phenomenal! perhaps versailles had redeemed itself despite the sub-par everything after all. alas, even the Eternal Optimist is disappointed. our bill came and hey, don't judge me - i work hard for my money - but it didn't add up. upon further questioning, under which the girls made us feel like criminals, it was revealed that a DIFFERENT PRICE IS CHARGED IF YOU EAT THE DESSERT IN HOUSE. what the hell. why would you list the price as one and charge another without any explanation? i get that they do this in europe and that versailles claims to be a restaurant with french influence but we're in the USA. are you reading this, management? make a huge sign that states there is a $3 JACKUP of a price if you want to eat your dessert at the restaurant. merci beaucoup, vous avez peu merde. What a disaster!! We walked in and people had already been waiting to be seated and the restaurant was half empty. The wait staff just looked at us with a blank stare. One guy, who had been already waiting at the pastry counter for service, and I started cracking jokes that they are trying to make us feel like we're in Paris with the poor service. Then finally someone came up and asked if she could help us...my inside voice was saying "no no we like to just stand here and be ignored." They still made us wait longer to be seated! Then we waited 15 minutes for the waiter to come to take our coffee order and then an hour waiting for our food which never came. After an hour they claimed that they had a computer problem and wanted us to re-order!! At this point I told her that she had to be kidding and we left. No one asked us if we wanted any more coffee or juice or a pastry, the waiter was non existent. The owner is clearly someone who has no idea on how to manage a restaurant but who had extra cash and thought it would be easy and fun to buy a restaurant. She had no control over the place and let the wait staff hang out in the kitchen while no one was paying attention to the front of the house. Looking around many other patrons seemed to be just as frustrated. I timed one of the waiters to see how long it took for him to go to the kitchen to get something. After 5 minutes in the kitchen chatting with the cooks, he came out with 2 glasses of tap water. This is exactly why we have not come to this restaurant for 20 years and I'm glad that bad service never changes. So...officially boycotting Versaille...again...it's too bad because the 5 plates that came out in that hour wait time looked good. This is first time in my life I have ever posted a complaint because it was so bad...and get this...they're looking to expand...that's funny..good luck! read more

What's going on? I had been to this restaurant several times, and it was fine, but my latest visit was a disaster. Empty restaurant, fairly busy bar (half-price wine night), a manager who acted like he would rather be anyplace else, and one waiter for the entire place. Needless to say, the service was terrible. For some reason they leave the door to the kitchen open so a harsh, bright light from the kitchen spills out to the dining room. You also get to see the Chef, or whomever he was, snacking as he cooked. The sad thing is the food, once it arrives, is pretty good. True, the kale salad was drenched in too much dressing, but it was fresh and tasty. They have a great burger, good fish and wonderful deserts. The prix fixed 3 course menu is an excellent value. They picked up our coffee because of the terrible service (had to send one coffee back - cold). The food is good enough that I give it three stars, but the overall experience is pretty mediocre. read more

I went to versailles for easter brunch with family and friends. When we arrived, it took about ten minutes for them to seat us even though we already had a reservation and the table was ready! I had the eggs Benedict which would've been very good if they didn't arrive to the table lukewarm. I had a strawberry tart for desert which was soggy and foul tasting, I am usually a fan of their pastries. The service is awful! If you are going I suggest taking out some pastries and enjoying them across the street at the park! read more

Food was good but the service was way off -- to the point where you start to wonder if you're in a strange parallel universe. To be fair, it started off fine but things devolved quickly. My order was messed up, but nothing too tragic so after pointing it out I just dealt with it. (The mistake was twice as expensive as what I requested so I wanted to make sure the server was aware of what I ordered) That was the last time we saw our server. A side of bacon did not materialized 10 min after our plates were delivered. We asked another server who brought it by when we were nearly finished (clearly not his fault, initial order not placed.) The original waitress sure as hell never stopped by to see how we were doing. Getting the check, while not painful, involved a fair amount of unseen hand gestures. And I swear there was something passive aggressive going on when we asked for something to be boxed up (Did she want us to miss our train, how did she even know we had a train .... hmmmm) Again, food was tasty and I do appreciate that I wasn't charged for the mix up but I can cook well -- I go out to eat for the experience and this wasn't a great read more

Great food and very cute bistro. The quiche of the day is delicious and comes with a side salad, which was simple but a great complement to the quiche. The coffee and tea was delicious too. One star because it's required. Negative stars more accurate. Just left without eating. Our waiter took our simple order, split a chicken sandwich no bacon and two cokes. After waiting a half hour we asked Mr. Attitude where our sandwich was and he said it will be out soon. Ten minutes go by, where's our food??? The internet is down, they never got your order. REALLY??? No sorry, no let me get you a drink on us, NOTHING. Fabulous - and I don't say this lightly or without experience - Gazpecho with the lightest croutons and some edible flowers. The prix fix lunch then concluded with a beyond delicious branzino filet over delicate yellow cherry tomatoes and tender fresh string beans. All for $19. Highly recommended! read more

Close friends recommended we stop in for dinner and I am so glad they did. The food was fantastic and cooked exactly as asked. The service was excellent and the staff was very attentive. I would highly recommend visiting. Try the filet, mussles, or even the brussels sprouts. Yum! read more

Fulfills my craving for Paris Cafe. My wife and I drive down from New Haven to shop in Greenwich, and Picked this place for late afternoon coffee. Mother's Day brunch was extremely DISAPPOINTING. They served us two omelettes that were more like an egg taco with what seemed like pre-made eggs that simply got a filling slapped in and folded. For a French Bistro, one expects a classic preparation of something as routine as an omelette, especially at $15 each. The poached eggs on my eggs Florentine, were not cooked...clear, runny whites...gross. Service was good and friendly. We've had dinner here several times and enjoyed the quality. Went here for brunch this past Sunday with the family and had a fabulous experience! Great food, atmosphere and people watching. This is now one of my top 5 brunch spots in Fairfield County. Will be going back to check it out for dinner soon. If you like Pastis or Balthazar in the city you'll love this. It's obviously smaller than the NYC comparisons but the size of the restaurant adds a lot to the charm. Oh, and save room for dessert... macaroons! Sorry but Versailles doesn't get it and still fails to listen to customers. We took the family there after several years because of poor service. It said it all when a French family next to us (two women, one of whom was the mother of the two young girls) received their lunch. The mother stared at her "salad nicoise " as did I (sitting at the table immediately next). There was no lettuce but there was: - one egg cut in quarters - a few small purple potatoes - some square pieces of tuna - a few green beans At most an appetizer. The woman stared in disbelief. I felt terrible because I would have been royally pissed. Of course when she called the server over asking politely, "is THIS a salad nicoise" the waitress said yes and didn't do anything. But the truth is the server was not experienced to even know what a real nicoise is or why one might like some lettuce in it (for some healthy bulk) Later, after taking a bit of egg from her daughters plate and eating in silence, she asked if they could add some lettuce. Of course, the server brings a small plate of lettuce. But the meal - and gathering- is ruined because Versailles fails to do things right and train servers. It's one thing if you're going to a cheap place or if they called it "salad nicoise redux" and put it on the list of appetizers. It's another when they charge $17-20 and give you next to nothing. I have been going to this place since childhood for monthly lunches with my grandmother and mother, and after today's service am very unhappy to say I will never return. Since this place expanded a year ago, their service has taken a turn for the worst. Upon arriving two minutes past the lunch time, my mother was curtly told by a teenage busboy that lunch is over and to basically leave. This has been the icing on the horrible staffing cake where everyone employed acts as if they are gods gift to the food service world. If you expect pleasant customer service akin to the old Greenwich, this is not the place for you. And the food is mildly better than average, but it is hard to remember due to the indigestion induced by the horrific staff. read more
