Sunday brunch was relaxing here. One lady staff was particularly cheerful and friendly while the men were just forgettable in their customer service skills. They were not smiling at all, and they believe their job is simply to clear the table. In contrast, the lady was just pleasant. The Yellowfin Tuna tartare was delicious, small in serving size, but big in taste. The mimosa was, as usual, refreshing. read more

This place definitely deserves all 5 stars after my experience yesterday. Great outdoor seating availability & the waiters are on top of everything, making sure all your needs are taken care of promptly and safely. For a drink, i got the Hibiscus Margarita which was a bit strong, but tasty. My boyfriend ordered the Pear Spiced Mojito & it was super delicious, the taste of alcohol wasn't as overpowering as the margarita's was. Food wise, their mac & cheese places Top 5 Best Mac & Cheese's in my book, & i'm someone who grew up ordering mac & cheese at restaurants for the first 16 years of my life (lol). Trust me, order the leak mac & cheese, you won't regret it. We also got the calamari which was super fluffy & fried perfectly! Between the 2 of us, splitting both those dishes was enough. Brunch horror story! Drawn by the resemblance of this bistro to one of our favorite brunch spots in Chelsea, this restaurant fell well short in terms of service and quality. Immediately upon arrival the manager was brisk and verging on rude when showing us to our table. While surprising, this wasn't nearly as big a problem as our server forgetting to enter our order. An hour and a half after we placed our order our server sheepishly told us that our food hadn't been prepared and offered a non-apology apology for wasting our entire morning. While we never got to try the food, judging by the quality of the drinks we were served we didn't miss much. The bloody mary was over priced and tasted like it had been poured from a pre-made mix while the coffee was burnt. Somebody should tell the people who run this place that the parochial italian vibe can be quite appealing, but only once you've gotten the basics right! read more

My lunch had too many problems for me to recommend! The restaurant is physically very nice with indoor and outdoor dining spaces. A small pastry shop adds to the charm. Now when a restaurant is open to the street you have to expect some amount of flies and that's not a problem for me. The problem was the little bugs crawling on my plate ("le steak sandwich"). Only 2 or 3 but enough to turn me off. The sandwich itself was awful. Perhaps the worst steak I have ever had in a French bistro. Supposedly a NY strip, what was served was a solid piece of gristle surrounded by a few bites of edible meat. This "steak" was sloppily placed atop an open grilled cheese type of baguette sandwich with fries (good) and salad scattered on top of everything. The plate looked like it was composed by a five year old. Regardless of its poor looks it would have been ok had the meat been edible. It hurts to write this review and perhaps I should have complained to the manager - but it should be their job to watch what comes out of the kitchen - and not my job to bitch about it. read more

What a let down. Used to come to this place many years ago for an excellent brunch. Returned after 6 or so years ago to find the french onion soup nothing like it used to be and the food not at all the quality it used to be. Was so let down, did not even want to try the desserts. So-so food you can get anywhere else, plus they tripled the prices! Its a cute little, casual french cafe type place with a case filled with amazing pastries in the front! I had the poached salmon.... it was delicious, so juicy, and it was served with buttery pilaf. My mom had the angelhair bolognese.... this is the best bolognese sauce ive ever had... it wasnt just ground beef man... it had so many different flavors going on.... the sweetness of the onions ohhhhhh man it was to die for! we also had the pate and terrine appetizer and it came with 3 different kind and all were just absolutely amazing! We took some pastries home. We got the apple tart and a couple of other pastries. The apple tart was amazing. Now I'll start with this....... I am a dessert person. My motto when going out to dinner is that there is ALWAYS room for dessert. Having said this as my disclaimer, I must admit I wasn't all too impresed by this place. A friend of mine took me here after one of the first times we met and had had lunch. The desserts do look yummy but I could bake better ones, and I'm a baker! But in all honesty, for that price I think it's just overrated. I think we got two desserts and two cappucino's which amounted to $30 and I think that's too much for desserts. I got the fruit tart which I've been a fan of lately and I think Agata and Valentina in the city (which is a gourmet super market) makes better ones... MUCH BETTER ONES. I just wasn't overall impressed. Not to mention as we were getting ready to leave... Food: Above average, but we didn't really given them an opportunity to blow us away since we were there for breakfast. Orders included mushroom & spinach omelet, spinach, tomato and goat cheese omelet and a croissant. The omelets are probably three eggs and served with a side salad. I also ordered a hash brown which was served by itself. Large enough for two. I don't drink coffee, but the juice seemed fresh squeezed. Service: no complaints, but we didn't put anyone to the test. Atmosphere: clean, French, open, casual, but nice. Misc: $90 after tip for 3 people. That's a lot for some breakfast. read more

I stumbled in here in dire need of coffee. Their iced Americano is quite good, sweet with hints of caramel, even without sugar added. My friend and I split a raspberry tart with a fine-crumbed sablé cookie base. It was gorgeous. Tarts are often the last port of call for overripe, soon-to-be-rotten berries. (You will not catch me with a strawberry tart. Ever.) That is not the case at Versailles. Perfect, still tart raspberries and just enough glaze to give them a glassy sheen rather than create tooth-sticking diabetic frustration. The thick cookie base was buttery and phenomenal. If their other pastries are as good as this, they're doing justice to the tradition of patisserie. I wanted to try their macaraons, but they wouldn't sell single cookies. That's an irritant. I really don't want six macarons. I want one macaron. I know there's overhead and business is better when you can sell six instead of one but when the option is one or none, sell one. Next time I will have to bring more friends who aren't on low-carb diets so that we can sample more goodies. . NYCers, be forewarned: you will have to run a gauntlet of what appears to be a J Crew catalogue come to life in order to get inside this place. Pastels, popped collars & madras plaid everywhere. Went in just to try their macaroons. I was disappointed to find that they only sold them in prepackaged boxes of 6 as I like to pick the flavors myself. Boxes were $9 each, which was not too bad. The cookies were airy and a bit too sweet but they tasted good nonetheless. The service was not that great. No "hello," no "how may I help you," no "thank you, have a nice day." The servers here very obviously treat their white patrons (the ones that look wealthy) differently vs people of color. They barely register people of color, and are all over their white patrons. The kicker is, the servers are All Hispanic. We've been living in this town for nearly a decade, and it's like nothing I've ever seen even with the low expectations that I have on equitable treatment here. We go out to eat often on the Avenue, and I've honestly Never noticed it to be this blatant anywhere else. It's offensive to a persons basic sense of decency. There was literally only one young bus boy who was professional. The Three others we had the displeasure of having to interact with -- the host and waiter (acted like they were doing you a favor) and a busboy (his attitude was so bad I had to say something to him) were atrocious. Management needs to get their $hit together and do some basic training for their staff. 2 stars, one for the professional bus boy, one for the food. read more

My tuna dish was a surprise because I had no idea it was canned tuna. The ice tea was delicious!! I had to basically lift my arms to call the attention of the waiter for a glass of water and then again to ask for the check. I've come here many times as a local in Greenwich and my general synthesis of that this place is very hit or miss. In terms of: Food quality I would say that it is quite good. The food is well prepared and they are very kind to accommodate special orders. Have not had a bad experience from a quality perspective. Service Can be all over the place. Waiters frequently forget to bring waters after multiple promptings, wait times for food once seated can be anywhere from standard wait times to an hour. Moreover, I get the feeling that once a waiter feels like he or she has lost the table in terms of service, zero attention will be paid to accommodating you or your needs. I have had this happen once or twice. I would have to ask for the check three times before I get it. However on the flip side, I have also had waiters who have been lovely and very considerate and prompt. Price Is high. Don't expect to get a cheap meal here. Food quality somewhat makes up for it and the pastries are very good but I would expect a higher and most importantly more consistent level of service from a place that is trying to be elite. Overall I would say give it a shot if you don't mind the price. read more

Ok so the only reason I gave this place an extra star (as opposed to the one star I would have given it) is because of the decor. I absolutely love what that have done with their new restaurant, and it looks great. Despite this, out of the two times I have eaten here, I have had two bad experiences each time. While they might just be coincidental they still happened, and of course I respect the good experiences people have had here :) When I first went I was again very impressed with the interior. I sat and dined with a friend, we we both got the lobster salad sandwich on brioche. I have to say the French fries were excellent but the quality of the lobster salad must have been bad because the next day we both we very very sick due to it. The second happened a year later, actually wanting to give the place a second chance. This time I sat in the café area in front, and had a cappuccino and a chocolate eclair. Everything was great, until half way through my eclair, I found a hair baked into the pastry. That sums it up. It's a shame these two things happened because I really liked the place until my experiences. read more

Bistro V is an excellent restaurant! My family always has a great time when we go and the food is always fresh. We took my younger brother for a birthday meal here and it was a highly memorable experience. The takeout is also great and we have found it to be just as good as eating at the restaurant. Some of our favorite menu items include their burger and duck confit; though we have found that the whole menu has remained enjoyable and it is difficult to go wrong. Their pastry selection is also very nice. My family and I always enjoy the food at Bistro V and I would highly recommend it to anyone. read more

Was there Monday during staff meeting, had breakfast with my wife: two omelettes. honest mistake in the kitchen, they got the cheeses wrong.The waiter came by to ask how everything was... I said they mixed goat and swiss so i was stuck with the wrong cheese. He said.... Sorry. And walked away. You just can't do that. Ever. I'll be back. They are doing linens on the tables for dinner. My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner on 7/27/2020. He ordered the Buddha Bowl with chicken. Later in the evening, he developed moderate-severe food poisoning. The next day (my birthday), I called to notify the manager. Instead of offering apologies, the manager tried to argue the validity of my claim. He tried to tell me that you cannot get food poisoning from eating vegetables (Anyone who handles food should know that you can fall ill from unwashed/improperly washed vegetables) Eventually, he offered to provide us with drinks and a dessert for my birthday. This was AMAZING! The food is all delicious, and you can tell that much of it is locally grown, and all baked goods crafted on site. Everything we ate, from the lobster bisque to the baguette on the tables, was amazing. Really enjoyed the artwork and the general design of the main eating room, near the back. Bold color choices that are really interesting to look at while you eat! But the best part? The bathroom. Ladies, there is a beautiful full length mirror and charming chair inside that make you feel suddenly like you are at the Opera house, and not a restaurant. I flew into Westchester on Christmas Day, and my aunt and uncle were trying to find a place that was open. Driving through Greenwich, we stumbled upon Versailles. It is a small restaurant with pastries loaded into display cases. The cozy setting had tables close to each other, French portraits, and red and white walls. We were served water, and placed our orders. I ordered the Potato Encrusted Salmon. Here's where Versailles began to fall apart. The food took about 45 minutes to come out. The dining room was not even full, and it was unacceptable how slowly the food came out. The waiter was around once in a blue moon but didn't show any real personality. My salmon was pretty good, although it was definitely missing a side component or something to offer any balance. It was potato and salmon every bite (with balsamic on the plate...). It was also hard to eat as the potato slips and slides all over the plate. The others thought their meals were very average as well. Judging from the pastry containers, dessert was a must. We ordered what the waiter suggested--the Neapolitan. I took one bite and was done. It tasted like nothing and was mushy. Thumbs down. Overall, I didn't find Versailles worth the money. We did come back for pastries again, and the dry pastries are pretty good. I'd skip this one and head somewhere else. read more

The date of our visit was Saturday 10/1/11. We were 3 adults and one kid. The staff was friendly, the girl (waitress) was nice. The reason for the 2 stars is: The lobster Bisque I ordered was served almost TOTALY COLD!! The entree i ordered was the Duck Confit Salad with Pan fried fois gras, apples, roasted pine nuts and cranberries. This was served WITHOUT the apples, pine nuts or cranberries. When I told them it was missing these items there was not one word of appology. They brought me apple slices and pine nuts in a bowl!! When you enter the reimagined restaurant, the front area is a patisserie, complete with white marble-topped tables, bistro chairs and glass display cases filled with tantalizing pastries. Behind these cases is a coffee bar, serving some of the best café au lait in Greenwich. In the rear, the patisserie opens to a restaurant with bistro style dark wood tables and chairs plus a long leather lined banquette. The walls are adorned with photos of Paris and framed French posters dating from the first half of the 20th century. While breakfast and lunch are served, the atmosphere is mellow and cheerful; in the evening the interior is transformed into a slightly more formal ambiance as the lights are lowered, table cloths are placed on the table and Le Diner is served. The menu reflects numerous bistro classics including a few lunch items that are served at the sister location, and Penvenne told CTbites, "We want Versailles to offer a different type of experience." Overseeing the kitchen is Chef Cedric Lamouille, who graduated from the French culinary school, Thonon Les Bains. Cedric worked in a number of Parisian kitchens, including Bistrot de L'Etoile before joining the renowned Jean-Louis in Greenwich, where he was chef. He joined Méli-Mélo in 2009 as executive catering chef and joined Versailles after it reopened. We started our meal with the "Rillettes de Saumon, Noix, Endive, Trévisse, Vinaigrette de Grenade." This was a delightfully pleasant salmon tartare served with caramelized walnuts, shaved endive and radicchio and finished with a pomegranate dressing. I really enjoyed the contrast between the smooth tartare and the crunchy shaved endive and radicchio. The walnuts were the secret ingredient and Penvenne told us that the recipe requires several days and different processes to obtain the texture and sweetness. The tartare was accented with finely diced onions that gave a slight pungency to the mild salmon. My favorite entrée was the "Boeuf Bourguignon, Parpadelle." Large pieces of slowly braised beef were served in one of the best red wine sauces I have ever tasted. The beef was moist, tender and rich in flavor from the red wine. The sauce was delicious and included sliced mushrooms and large slices of carrots, plus an unusual ingredient, celery slices. The "Confit de Canard, Chou Rouge, Pommes de Terre Sautées" was very good but salty. The thigh-leg section was perfectly prepared, the meat was rich and succulent and the skin was crispy. As much as the meat and skin were delicious, the saltiness distracted from the overall dish. It was served with red cabbage and sautéed potatoes. The cabbage was a great complement to the duck and the potatoes were excellent, crispy on the exterior and moist and tender on the interior. The "Carrelet "Colbert" Persil Frit, Pommes Vapeur" was not my favorite. Three flounder fillets were lightly breaded and pan fried and served with a mélange of vegetables including potatoes, sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, broccoli and cauliflower. The dish was finished with slices of tarragon infused butter. The sautéed flounder was bland and while the vegetables were well cooked, they would have benefitted from more seasoning. Save room for dessert...the pastries are outstanding. They are all prepared on premises by one of the four fulltime bakers. The "Pont Neuf," originally created by François Payard, consisted of Tartatin style toffee apples sitting on layers of pate feuilletée and topped with caramelized mousseline, and chiboust cream before crisping the exterior a la crème brulée. The buttery dough was delicious, the apples were fantastic, and the crème was a perfect addition. This was one of the best pastries I have ever eaten. The "Napoléon" contained of two layers of mille-feuille puff pastry intermingled with thick layers of chiboust cream, and then sprinkled with sugar powder and a cacao powder stencil. The cream was decadent and the puff pastry was delightful and offered a crispy contrast to the smooth pastry cream. It has been a very long time since I have had a Napoléon as good as this rendition. Versailles offers classical bistro fare within a patisserie feel during the day and a relaxed bistro atmosphere in the evening. The pastries are fantastic, worth a visit to enjoy with a cup of coffee or select a variety to bring home. read more

The bread was soggy and the thing basically tasted like gruyere mush. The burger is underwhelming and the service is slow. Even the posters on the wall are off- in English as opposed to French. FORGET about a diet here. What ever happens in Versailles stays in Versailles. Bring a friend because any pastry cut and shared has half of the calories. The coffees, juices, pastries and entrees are pretty, delicious and delightful to the last drop, morsel and crumb. The atmosphere plays every bit as important of a role as the gustatory offerings. We have been coming to Versailles for years for its excellent food and great service. Last weekend we stopped by for Sunday brunch and left disappointed. The one constant over the years was the high quality coffee. It was beautifully brewed and piping hot. The current offering tastes like gas station coffee and worse, arrived luke warm. That was the tip off that things had changed. When I asked for an omelet with Gruyere cheese--a French staple--they only had cheddar or American. Really? The meal was mediocre as was the service. So sad that this little gem on Greenwich Ave. has lost its way. Versailles, you can do better. read more

We went there for Sunday breakfast. Nice place, although it was very very hot, to the point I was almost uncomfortable, and almost wanted to change table. I had Bistro V Special, (Two organic eggs sunny side up and hash browns). The eggs were a bit overcooked, anyway it was very good. My wife had an apple turnover, and said was very good. My husband and I came in for some desserts and coffee on Sunday. The cakes and coffee were very good but I thought the service was a bit weird. At first i thought it was nice of them but the staff kept checking on us for too many times (to see whether we need more coffee, etc) in a way that I could feel that they tried to rush us even though we were only there for a short while. To enjoy an amazing French bistro, you don't really have to fly to France. Just get in the car and drive up to Versailles on Greenwich Ave. in Greenwich, CT. What a cozy little place it is....buzzing and hopping with activity. As soon as you enter you get a sense that this is the kind of place that must be a favorite neighborhood hangout for many loyal customers. I was instantly struck by the amazing display of all kinds of dessert cakes and pastries, and I just knew that I had made the right choice by coming here. After all, this is my kind of place! My family and I were there for lunch, so I behaved myself and resisted all the sweet confections until after we had eaten. We started with a hot bowl of French Onion Soup...perfect for that nippy, cloudy, Sunday afternoon. Ooey gooey cheese, delicious oniony broth... aahhhh! If I ever see Croque Monsieur on a menu, I HAVE to have it! And so I did. :-) It was divine. Infact it was so good, that we ordered another one for all of us to share. It was light and airy with a generous portion of ham in the middle and delicious topping of cheese. YUM! Once lunch was over, I jumped up to the bakery counter and ordered a sampling of pastries to take home. Of all the desserts I tried there, all very good, I think my favorite was Pear Saint-Michel, a chocolate almond and flamed pear cake with chocolate and caramel mousse. Extremely moist and so very delicate in both the flavor as well as the texture. Versailles is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening at Cafe Versailles. The food was terrific , we had onion soup, steak tartare as well as a perfectly prepared tuna steak. We want to give special mention to a beautiful foie gras dish that was colorfully presented and so very tasty. We met Chef Juan Carlos who is very young and very talented. The front of the house is led by Noivin and we also met GM Rudy Porras. Our dinner was an unexpected joy. We will be coming back the next time we are in Greenwich read more

The only redeeming quality of this restaurant was the outdoor seating atmosphere. If you're sitting down for a drink and a chat then its perfect. But if you want dinner, service is slow, and food quality is subpar. I ordered the kale salad which was overrun with excessive stems and had a strange and inedible grilled pineapple as a garnish. The steak I ordered for an entree was overcooked and unflavorful. The brussle sprouts side was also, undercooked and flavorless. Would not return. read more

Went for brunch this past Sunday and the food was amazing! Thought it would be a little "tight" inside based on the photos from the website but it wasn't! Doors open to The Avenue so it's fun people watching if you're in the front. Desserts were fabulous... we shared several and the Napolean was probably the best I've ever tasted! We also never felt rushed. Great experience. Only negative we experienced is the staff was unable to break up the bill the way we wanted and insisted we split it evenly. Not a problem if you're not going with a larger group but if you are, and need to split the bill, I'd ask for separate checks.
