My first experience eating here was horrendous. After making our reservation a week in advance, we showed up on time and were told they did not have room for us. Our waiter, Louis, was incredibly rude and it took two hours for us to get our food. Not to mention- AN HOUR before we were given bread (after asking multiple times). I stopped here two times this week when I was in town. One night was just for a quick drink and our waiter was helpful, attentive, and offered a sample of a beer before I officially ordered it. Last night I sat at the bar for both dinner and a beverage. Sarah was working and did an awesome job. She called each of us sitting there by name as she helped us, but she also gave everyone the appropriate space they needed to enjoy their dinner or beverage. She was super sweet and a great employee! I had heard rave reviews of the food from co-workers who had eaten there throughout the week, so I decided to order dinner as well. I wasn't overly hungry and ordered the full Caesar Salad with shrimp added. The salad was HUGE but I ended up eating nearly the entire bowl. Delicious! The wild boar was amazing! Probably one of the best cuts of meat I've ever had, and I eat a LOT of filets :). Had it medium rare which I highly recommend. You can always have them cook it more. Spinach salad was just ok. Ate at the bar and the two gentlemen there were very attentive and helpful - excellent service. Also, don't eat at the bar if you don't want to be talked to - even if you're reading and are obviously not looking for a conversation. People in Davenport are apparently very friendly :) read more

What a fantastic hotel! Full of glitz and glamor from the days past. I dropped by Bix Bistro on my last night in town for a business trip. I wish I'd stumbled in sooner. I'd already had dinner with a co-worker elsewhere, so I sat at the bar an enjoyed some magnificent people watching a nd even more magnificent cocktails. The bartenders are very attentive but not in an intrusive way. They can mix up anything you fancy or you can choose from their extensive wine and martini list. I decided to try the "special" of the evening - a blueberry and mint martini made with freshly pureed blueberries. It was really very good. For my second and final martini (they were strong and I'm a lightweight, what can I say?), I had a drink made with balsamic vinegar and vodka garnished with a cherry tomato and mozzarella cheese. Sounds awful but it's actually awesome. Upon ending my evening, I decided to get some dessert to take back to my hotel. I had a really delicious chocolate torte. It was dense and rich and amazing. Wish I'd found this hotel on my first night in Davenport, but the next time I'm in town for work, I'll definitely be back. Only been here for snacks and drinks many times not a full dinner. Everything sounds and looks delicious and I've only heard good things. As far as what I have personally experienced, the drinks, apps, and service is amazing. Very classy and nice as well, and I'm comparing to Chicago or DC spots where I'm from. They make fancy cocktails and offer great recommendations on food and drinks as well. Now adding to this review. I have had more drinks and apps and a lot of breakfasts and room service. Price is just outrageous. They also mess up my breakfast order and room service literally every time. The staff is very friendly and helpful so not sure it's their fault. Food wise I really like the breakfast quesadilla but ask for extra cheese and not cheddar. The banana strawberry pancakes are really good. Their omelette and hash browns also good. Jumping around a bit but their by the wine glass selection and drinks are all excellent. I like how you can have a drink and sit on the couches in their luxurious lobby as well. Taking it down a star though because of the price and the messing up of orders. read more

Located in the historic and recently refurbished Hotel Blackhawk, Bix Bistro offers an upscale take on food for downtown Davenport. The hotel exudes the feeling of a place that you want to stay and if you're looking to do a special meal one evening, Bix is the place to do it. Entrees will run you $18 - $30 (top end for cuts of steak), appetizers $8 - $12. No really good coffee service to speak of after dinner outside of Starbucks from the hotel's in-house coffee shop, so I would hope that they would take the opportunity to upgrade and include a quality coffee service to match what they're doing with the restaurant. I had the tuna tartare with baguette toast "points" as well as a variant of jambalaya that was out of this world. I took the liberty of capping it off with Whitey's Ice Cream (I'm an infrequent visitor to the Quad Cities) for dessert. read more

Disappointing anniversary dinner- my food did not match the menu description at all. I had the duck which I had before/ not nearly as good this time/ different chef??? The breast medallions - not as tender / gave most to my husband. Confit was yum but accompaniments were supposed to be wild rice & baby vegetable mix / it was white rice w/ about 10 pieces of wild mixed in & baby carrots. First, let me say the food is really good. We had lunch there on 9/20/17, and the service was SO BAD I couldn't believe it. The place was virtually empty. We sat down, placed our orders and received our drinks. And then we waited AND waited. Finally we flagged down another person that was not our server, and she got drink refills for us. Our food arrived, and we requested ketchup from two different people. By the time it arrived, our food was cold. We planned on dessert, but didn't bother because we couldn't spend another hour waiting. Won't be back. The food was good, but it is not worth the total lack of service. read more

We brought clients here during a work trip to the Quad cities. The atmosphere and decor is super swanky and fun. Reminds me of an old martini lounge from the 40s (not that I actually know what that is like). The food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks. They had an extensive drink menu with some tasty sounding cocktails. To start we had the artichoke dip, the asparagus app and the tuna tartar. All were delicious, but I think the tuna was my favorite. I had the pork chop for my entree...it was very good, medium sized, bone in cut. Tasty sides and filling. They told us that Obama ate there and liked their recipe so much he has it made at the White House. When I go back to visit these clients again, I will have to go back to Bix! read more

We had our wedding dinner at Bix Bistro. Let me start by saying the food was outstanding! Yes, the menu is smaller than the Bix Lounge (right next door) and the prices are higher. But this is a 4 star restaurant, so it's not the place to go if you want to save a penny. If you are looking for 4 star treatment and delish food, this is it! Frankly, my partner and I were surprised to find a restaurant of this level in such a small town. We drove in from Chicago to get married, since we can't legally do that in IL yet. We found it to be on par with some of the nicer restaurants in Chicago. The service was amazing, thanks to James and everyone who helped us! We couldn't have been happier with our meals. I had the seafood risotto...scallops and shrimps were fresh and fantastic. I can't eat gluten and the staff and kitchen were more than accommodating, making sure I didn't end up getting glutenized. Other people had the filet, the pork chop (President Obama's fave, yes he stayed at the hotel), and various kid's meals, salads, etc...all were terrific. We had a sparkling wine from Oregon (Argyle) to celebrate, then switched to a lovely French rose to finish the meal. They had a great selection of wines. This is a wonderful place to eat for a special night out. We highly recommend it! read more

Service was great- dessert was made in house and had just come out of the oven when I ordered it. Pricing is also impressive for the quality of food and time that goes into these amazing dishes. This place was excellent! Great service from our waitress, Truc, like Truck but without the "k." She was super attentive and very smiley. I felt so bad because I kept asking her so many questions, but she knew the answer to everything and was super friendly about it. Went to eat here with my friends for my birthday, and I was not disappointed at all. The lamb was perfection, and the beef tips were so juicy and tender. Regarding the Thanksgiving buffet. Our party of 5 adults/2 children tasted it, the food flavors were good, but everything! was lukewarm at best. Between the 7 of us, everyone had a variety of of the dishes, and the comments were the same-nothing was hot. I told the waiter that, and also the manager. It was quite a disappointment, and embarrassment to us as hosts. Leaving to eat at another restaurant was not a realistic option because of the holiday. Also, by this time of day everyone was hungry; so we ate some food, paid the bill, and left.I have tried contacting this business at least 7 times by email or phone, and have yet to receive a reply. read more

The Sunday brunch is pretty good. There were a couple of items I didn't care for but you'll have that at any buffet. There was a Thai chicken that was less than impressive. They offered a good fruit selection and the eggs Benedict station was awesome. They also bring out a huge incredibly decadent cinnamon roll. Mimosas and bloody Marys are included although they were pretty weak for my taste so I pretty much left them alone. I made a reservation and got right in. Very relaxed and classy atmosphere compared to the madhouse at some other restaurant's brunches. read more

Limited menu. Personally I don't think the price fits the Quad Cities. That being said, my steak was cooked exactly as I'd asked despite being severely overseasoned. My potato logs were fried in oil that was too hot...the centers weren't done making them inedible. Husband got the chicken cordon bleu and it was very dry. Staff was very attentive. Nice atmosphere. For the price I guess I expected more. I paid the same as eating at Gibson's in Chicago....which has always served me a perfect meal. Will give it another try and hope the night we went was an off night. If we hadn't been in a rush to get next door for the theatre, I'd definitely given them a chance to rectify. read more

Really a very disappointing dining experience. The menu sounded great, but the execution of the dishes was really one star. I ordered the Presidential pork chop and the sides of au gratin potatoes and cabbage tasted like left overs that had been microwaved. All the food on the plate was different temperatures, clearly a sign of microwave cooking. The chop was tough and poorly seasoned and topped with frozen succotash. The only reason I give the 2 stars is because the waiter was attentive and did an OK job. read more

Bix Bistro Joel Gott Wines Dinner My wife and I had the opportunity to attend the March 25th, 2016 Start of Spring Wine Dinner at the Blackhawk Hotel's Davenport Club. The wines featured were exclusively from the Joel Gott winery in California. The five course dinner was prepared by the Culinary Team managed by Executive Chef Josh Guthrie of the Bix Bistro. It has been many years since we have attended a wine tasting dinner celebration. We were not disappointed. Each of the food courses was well matched to five different Joel Gott wines. The evening started with the Pan Seared Sashimi Tuna. It was a perfect fusion of Asian components and Western tastes. The fruitiness of the 2014 unoaked Chardonnay refreshed the pallet without competing with the full flavor of the tuna and Seaweed Slaw. Cognac Lamb Loin was next. Lamb was well suited for this time of Easter and Passover celebrations. The rich flavor of the marinated lamb was accented by a touch of sweetness from the strawberry jam and pungent mint chimichurri. The relatively young 2014 Pinot Noir added acidity and depth to the entrée. The Lime Beef Carpaccio Salad was a pleasant addition. This course continued the East meets West theme of the cuisine. The Japanese Kobe Beef with the acidic mango, ginger and lime flavors bloomed when followed with a sip of the full-bodied 2014 red Zinfandel. The big, well-oaked Cabernet Sauvignon of the next course balanced the citrus tart Kataifi Wrapped Jumbo Prawn and prevented it from overpowering the taste buds. Still a bit young, this 2012 vintage cabernet will likely reach its peak in 2018 or 2020. The wine is a keeper, but the Prawn was of the moment to enjoy. Just when I thought the dinner couldn't get any better, the Vanilla Ganache Dome was served. Topped with its own vanilla bean, the dessert completed the evening's culinary extravaganza. The creamy ganache-covered delight was smooth, rich and full of flavor. It had a crisp freshness that only comes from careful preparation by an experienced pastry chef. The 2012 Riesling added soft fruity accents to this course. I would have been just as happy to enjoy the Dome with a fine cup of coffee, so I'll look for it again if offered at the Bix Bistro. In addition to the fine food and drink, the service was friendly and attentive. The informational discussions and videos of the wines from the Joel Gott winery were well done. Josh Guthrie explained the courses as they were presented and introduced the members of his team. It was a well-planned and meticulously orchestrated evening. Discussions with other diners were interesting and enjoyable. We hope to be able to attend the other wine dinners offered later this year. read more

Tuna had a great flavor and the filet steak was excellent. Sauce on steak was light and awesome. Substituted French fries for potatoes and it was a great choice. The French fries had a crispy crust on them that I normally do not like, but these were flavorful, crisp and tasty. Also, a side mention, but no less flavorful was the Caesar salad. The dressing was just right, creamy and smooth. Wish I would've ordered a full size instead of half. Guest next to us ordered the cheddar tots and raved about them. I think the only way to make sense of this dining experience is to explain it chronologically. I'll start by saying that the 2-star rating I'm giving is a very unimpressed 2 stars, and were it not for a couple of good appetizers and good wine, I may have handed out a single star. My wife and I arrived early and ordered wine at the bar. We had a seat on one of the couches in the lobby. The setup was typical of fancy-casual hotel bars. Very cool vibe and good ambience. We probably should've stayed there for the evening. After our wine, we were seated and then greeted by our server. She was friendly and enthusiastic, but lost interest in us quickly as she turned her attention to her 6-top. She also never mentioned the specials. Odd. My wife and I decided to share two appetizers, the shrimp & grits and the crawfish risotto. We also ordered the pheasant entree to share. Everything was fine up until this point. The appetizers arrived within 5 minutes. The shrimp & grits were delicious. Flavorful grilled shrimp and smooth, creamy grits with, I believe, a rosemary butter sauce. The risotto, however, was undercooked and had to be sent back. I rarely return food to the kitchen, but it was inedible. A new dish was made and turned out to be perfect. Great flavor from the crawfish and sausage. Then it got weird: As we finished the risotto the chef emerged from the kitchen, approached our table, reached for our empty plate, and asked, "May I?" as he removed the plate and went back to the kitchen. There was no apology for the first order of risotto nor did he ask if we had enjoyed the remake. My wife and I found this to be very passive-aggressive on his part. Our entrée, the pheasant, was served with wild mushrooms and truffle gnocchi. The sides were tasty but the pheasant was overcooked and dry. It takes extra care to make sure pheasant, as a lean, gamey bird, stays moist while cooking; that care wasn't taken with this dish. At that point, we worked our way through it and didn't feel like going through the ordeal of explaining that another dish wasn't up to par. My wife noticed during our meal that an adjacent table was presented with new steaks after they returned some of their entrées as well. So this wasn't just an isolated incident. Our server was MIA for the last half of our meal and never checked in to see how everything tasted after the risotto incident. After we passed on dessert and asked for our check, we waited forever to get the bill (the waitress passed our table 4 times without dropping it off). We won't be returning. I'm not sure about the 5 star reviews from other diners, but suffice it to say I feel duped by those reviews. read more

I stayed at the hotel black hawk and this restaurant was apart of it. I was taking a road trip across the country and this was probably one of the worst stops/foods/parts of the journey and hotel.. Why does the hotel which is a nice, fun place have this terrible restaurant and chef work there and serve this crap to customers. Oh well at least they're open late. Nice furnishings. Location in the lobby is good if you enjoy listening to the sloppy drunks at the lobby bar. Crab cakes are tiny. Entrees were passable - filet mignon was prepared correctly. Overall the price seems to be influenced by the AAA rating more than anything else. Service was rough based on price point. There are better options close by. read more
