My server, Syndey, was very attentive and so sweet, I've gotten her as a server before and both times the service was delightful. Dined on 8/20/24. First things first, I absolutely adore the atmosphere of this place, the workers are all super friendly and make you feel at home, and the vibes are very homey. I've been looking for good bbq spots ever since I've moved out here and this is the place, this time around I got their loaded baked potato with their beef brisket and it's absolutely to die for. The potato and all it's fixins are delicious on its own but the meat is the real show stopper. Tender, Smokey, melts in your mouth deliciousness. Also pictured is a side of fries and their brownie explosion. The brownie is very rich and pairs lovely with their their vanilla ice cream. A lovely treat to end a great meal. Terrible service with uneducated staff. I brought my service animal and sat on the patio. The manager and waitress immediately began harassing me about the dogs and were generally just very combative and rude. My friend is Asian and perhaps that was part of their issue. Either way I would avoid this business until they get staff that understands service and the laws. read more

I can't believe I've never been to this place before. I was invited to come eat here for one of my friends birthday and I'm glad I got the invite because this place is delicious! I ordered the BBQ platter with Pork ribs and bbq'd chicken with the medium bbq sauce. I was impressed how tender the ribs were and the chicken was so juicy. The bbq'd chicken was probably was favorite! With the platter, you get two sides and a slice of cornbread. Oh boy, that cornbread is super tasty! I was sad after taking the last bite. For my sides, I ordered cheddar grits and a cup of their soup of the day: clam chowder. I loved the clam chowder! It's on thicker side of chowders but it was packed with flavor and was plentiful with clams in each bite. I would definitely just order the bowl of clam chowder as a meal. I love grits and their cheddar grits definitely did not disappoint. The service was great! Our waitress was super friendly and made sure we got everything we needed! On Saturdays, they have the cajun boil. I'll definitely be back to give it a try! Great place overall and I will definitely coming back and bringing in some newcomers as well! read more

My wife and I ate here for dinner on Friday, 07 April. Place was packed so that was a good sign. Reviews were good and it was recommended by a local. We were not disappointed. Our wait was about 30 minutes to be seated but we waited at the bar and had a couple cocktails. The food and people were amazing (cannot remember the names of our waitress but she was killing it on her 3rd day at work). We had the brisket, coleslaw, and Mac and cheese platter for two. It was excellent. I also had the best chili in my life here so I strongly recommend BJ's. read more

Just Ok. Staff is really really friendly. Food. Eh, I think I ordered the wrong things. Strolled In on late Friday afternoon and the place was decently empty. We ordered the chicken strips, 1/2lb hot links with medium sauce and their championship ribs. Fries, coleslaw, potato salad were our sides. Coleslaw was over dressed and inedible. Potato salad, typical and fries tasted like real fresh cut fries, so those were good. Chicken tenders were obviously frozen variety. The hot link, was a mild link and just ok. Ribs, can I say I've enjoyed others more? Not sure what made these particular ribs championship ribs? Sauce on the ribs was mild and very good. My biggest gripe was when I asked for a high chair, they provided one, but it was filthy and notably filthy by the hostess but not a single effort was made by their staff to clean it. So we spent the first 10 minutes of our meal wiping it down with our baby wipes. It just makes me wonder what else is dirty in there. read more

I've been there twice. The first time was a five stars review, the food was amazing with a wonderful smokey flavor. Pork ribs were perfect consistency with tenderness yet still had meat structure and not falling apart. The brisket was also fantastic with that perfect consistency that you get when slow smoking brisket to 203 F internal temperature. I was very impressed with that first time. Unfortunately the second time that I went to BJs I had quite the opposite experience. The ribs and brisket were ubderdone and still had collagen and a very tough consistency. There was no smoke flavor at all and I wonder if this was baked/broiled. The first time that I went was when the weather was warm and the second time was in the winter. Spontaneous mood this morning... so hubby had no clue where I wanted to go for breakfast. Our friendly neighbor caught us heading out, and as she asked where , I just said a surprise!!!! Easy to take Veterans parkway from our house, and we were there in 20 min. Parking not too bad, and spot was close to the front. What inspired my venture?? Maybe my local Yelpers!! Really? Michael T's pic of the cinnamon roll! So, one cinnamon roll, hubby got the breakfast burrito (no egg), and I had half order off the egg Benedict, and coffee. Cinnamon roll was fair, (I was thinking and hoping it was doughy like Cinnabon), but it wasn't, still we split and finished it off. Hubby's burrito was really good, (probably one of the best he's tried since moving here)... mine was okay, home fries were good but not hot, and the ham was really thin, like pressed lunch meat.. I did like the biscuit underneath. Service was great and attentive, refills on the coffee promptly. Next trip will be for dinner and trying out the ribs! read more

This is some delicious grub! We got the pork ribs a la cart and bomb ass fries. All I can say is: "DANG! This is some good bbq!" I can't wait to try some other menu items!! Picked up take out I ordered 90 mins prior and the kitchen was still delayed another 15mins, but it was well worth the wait!! Although I'm sure the fries would be even better fresh in person, they were still delicious by the time I got home. We are gluten free, so obviously the options are limited and you take a risk if you're very sensitive. I can't wait to dine in and get the bacon Bloody Mary! read more

If you're looking for solid award-winning barbecue in the area, look no further than BJ's. Every time I eat here, I leave with an overly stuffed but very satisfied stomach. Sometimes there is a wait because this place is almost always hopping but as long as your party size isn't too large, they can typically get you in within 10 minutes. Their menu options are almost overwhelming in numbers but just about every bite of food here is one that I would be happy to repeat. Prices are okay but worth it and the service is on-point. I have always seen BJ's whenever I am heading to Sparks, but never tried them until recently. They are offering dine-in again, and from what my partner and I could tell, it's a fairly decent-sized restaurant. However, we opted to order to-go, which the hostess was extremely helpful with. My partner and I went on a Tuesday afternoon, and were pleasantly surprised to find out that they offered both daily lunch and weekday specials. I went for the pork rib lunch special, which came with three pork ribs, two sides, cornbread, and a drink. For my sides, I chose their "dirty rice" and mac n cheese, with sweet tea as my drink. My partner opted for the weekday special, which was tri-tip, offered as a melt, platter, or sandwich during lunch; he chose the melt option. As a special side treat, I had also ordered us their pecan cinnamon bun to share. We waited outside the restaurant as we had ordered to-go, and our food took less than 20 minutes to come out! So, to break down how everything tasted: Tri-tip melt: SO good. Very tender meat, nicely toasted bread (not sure what kind of bread it came on, but I believe it was sourdough) Pork ribs: Also very good. I prefer a dry rib over a saucy one, and their ribs definitely had some good flavor, but not as tender meat as the tri-tip Dirty rice: my partner actually ate all of it so unfortunately no comments for this one Mac n cheese: gooey cheese sauce, but overall not as remarkable as I had hoped. Definitely needed some additional seasoning instead of just a few breadcrumbs that were thrown on top Cornbread: nothing too different with their cornbread, either--just that it had a cake-like texture as opposed to others that make it very crumbly Pecan cinnamon bun: Arguably the second best thing from our whole meal, right after the tri-tip melt. We had actually eaten it the day after we went to BJ's NV Barbeque, and a minute or so in our microwave allowed us to enjoy it's wonderful smell and taste immediately. I liked that the pecans were chopped small, and the sauce they use was just amazing. You'll definitely want to order one for you and someone else (or just you) to share. Overall, a pretty good barbeque place! I'd love to come back and try their brisket next, as well as the tempting varieties of fries they offer. read more

BJ's has won awards as the best BBQ in Nevada, best ribs, and the place my friend wanted to visit. BJ's it is! Since we just happened to be in Sparks. Peak hours on a Friday meant a nice little wait but it wasn't that bad - if we came an hour later it would have been a lot less, but 6 PM is definitely the peak. It's worth the wait. In order of experience: * Service: 4 stars. Not as attentive as the little local places down South, but this place seats a lot of people so the waitstaff have to pay attention to several tables. Never an issue, always friendly. Negative: told me after dinner that the potato salad was the only not-homemade item. Why did you tell me that after? Tell me before or not at all so I know not to order it! * Ambiance: 3.5 stars. It's a long narrow main room, kinda like a diner, to the point I accidentally walked into the kitchen area trying to go to the bathroom. They seated us in the far room so the bathroom was a decent walk away. Would be nicer to have everyone together in a single place, and maybe a more obvious setup that's a bit wider so it feels like people are more grouped. * Food: 5 stars. Pork ribs are worth everything they have reputation for. Very tender, smoky, excellent size. I was toward the end of the rack so I got 4 for my 3 (two meats). Brisket was in fact quite good, not fatty (some pictures hinted otherwise). By the way, they have a fourth sauce. After they say "mild, medium, hot", ask for hotter than hot and you'll get it. And it's delicious and not TOO spicy, but a nice kick to it. Totally worth it. As for my sides, the potato salad was actually quite good despite being storebought , while the mac n cheese is classic and homemade. Can't go wrong. The cornbread was not at all crumbly, a little sweet but definitely not dessert-like like a couple of people hinted here. It belongs. Sweet tea is the perfect sweetness, I didn't need to mix any regular tea in. Came without ice like I asked (warm) and refilled whenever needed. Worth it. Overall, this BBQ is as good as you'll get outside the South, and is to the point where I'd say "this could probably survive in the South". The ribs were in the top 3 I've ever had. This was not only worth the way, I'm contemplating a designed return to Reno and this will be our dinner when that happens. I meant if... no, I meant when. read more

I've only come here for breakfast twice, but I plan on returning for more. I found this place searching for breakfast steak... I work nights so this is a pseudo dinner meal for which I had been craving for months. I've ordered the breakfast ribeye medium rare which I chose with potatoes, sourdough toast and easy over eggs. I was pleasantly surprised at the actual quality of the cut and cook. It was a bit thinner than I would have liked but in the end I left full. I did try a side of the chicken fried steak which I wasn't thrilled, but the main course looked much more appetizing with a good heap of mash and gravy. I was disappointed that they did not offer any other steak options for later services but their offerings all seem well liked. Maybe I'll try it later in the day to see what their bbq is like, but I know I'll be visiting again. read more

We found this place on yelp while visiting Reno. It had great reviews, especially the brisket. We were so looking forward to getting some, that it was quite a disappointment to find out that it goes fast. Of course, we didn't get any! It was packed on a Friday night, and we were pretty happy with the food we tried. BBQ chicken & ribs and a delicious bbq chicken salad. The service was tops and the food made up for the brisket let-down. I think it helped that we were starving, but no matter, we will be back for brisket next time. I came to BJ's with high expectations. I was very disappointed. The service was great! Sydney was attentive and took great care of us. The problem was the food. Mediocre at best. We arrived at 7 for dinner. The ribs still had the membrane and were very chewy. The pulled pork was dry. The brisket tasted like pot roast. There was no smoke flavor. The fried Mac and cheese was "interesting" just the way Sydney described it. The sides were ok, but nothing was outstanding. While visiting from out of town I prefer to try local spots. I would have had a better meal at a chain restaurant. The ambiance was good, but not enough to overcome the food. When another server asked how the food was, we said "disappointing". They replied "come earlier next time." I expected championship barbecue, as they have won many awards. Maybe the small batch is good, but this was far from championship barbecue. read more

My DH said, it was "almost too much bacon" but that isn't possible. Is it? Waited a few minutes to get seated -- and service was swift. Other than the 50/50 - we tried the pork ribs - awesome. Great smoke. The brisket - hit or miss... kinda fatty and not their best. The sides included a salad with the apple vinaigrette - VERY nice and the cheesy grits - YES - and the cole slaw - very good! They have a selection of barbecue sauces to choose from, and each is delicious. I especially love their cheesy grits. I am often conflicted because it is so hard to choose between their delicious Shrimp and Grits or their fabulous ribs. We happened to be there once on a Friday and my husband ordered the Fish and and Chips and they used Atlantic Haddock. It was delicious. Their servers are super friendly and attentive. Had to wait about 10 minutes on a Saturday (closed on Sundays) for a late breakfast. My wife reminded me of the cheddar grits and I was sold! We had a custom bowl (pretty heavy with the country gravy), the benedict (solid hollandaise), the shrimp and grits (nice) and the bomb-ass (eggs over fries with BBQ pulled pork - get the hot BBQ sauce).
