Soooo...this is our go-to for lunch or dinner when we dont want to cook at home, but recently we've had some not so good experiences in Bakersfield. Furing the past 3 visits, we've had watered down tea....which may be a minimal issue, but three attempts until we received freshly brewed tea....as we left the restaurant. Yes, i asked for it to go cuz i paid for it. The last three visits, the bread was nuked so badly it was hard to tear apart and chew, we left it alone. Gone are the days of warm bread served at the table that tasted freshly baked. My hubby's meat which was requested as medium well...came to our table over cooked. At EACH of the last 3 visits. At one of the last visits, it took awile for someone to refill our drinks..and itcwas a slow afternoon. Oh, I ordered the scalloped potatoes which were really good the first time I tried them, the second time, there were actually NO potatoes included..just the cheese and sauce. Then yesterday, after lunch, we noticed a service fee added to our check for using a credit card. So, I checked my lastv3 receipts from my purse, all had the same charge. Yet no one informed us that if paying with cash ....no fee. So, needless to say, hubby was not happy and kind of disappointing since we really liked this place. It looks like BA just lost two customers. I think management needs to review some of these issues before they lose more of us. read more

Black Angus was always a great place for steak, but the last couple visits have been a little disappointing, with hits and misses. The salad and bread were the best bites, along with a delicious Pineapple Upside Down Cheesecake, which I highly recommend. The house-made blue cheese dressing is great . My steak was very salty, possibly from the garlic butter. Hubby's prime rib was decent. The burnt ends poblano pasta was terrible. It tasted like smoke and nothing else. I wanted to wipe my tongue with the napkin to get the taste out of my mouth. I'd avoid that like the plague. Overall, I think they've slipped in quality, which is disappointing. read more

Visited Saturday for my nephew's birthday. We ordered calamari, cheese bread, and potstickers to start our dinner. The drinks and appetizers came out quickly. The calamari was delicious yet the spicy red sauce was personally not my favorite. I just feel it didn't pair well with the calamari. The tartar sauce was ok dipping sauce I just feel as though a better sauce could be accompanied with the calamari. The potstickers were delicious and the same red spicy sauce was paired with the potstickers yet honestly the sauce in the pan is great! The cheese bread with steak was delicious! One of my favorite appetizers of the evening. I ordered a 8 oz. sirloin with a mushrooms & blue cheese topper and mashed potatoes. I ordered the steak medium and was cooked more like a well done steak. Overall, waitress was great checking in and bringing refills and food was brought out promptly. read more

Only giving them 5 stars because Lillyann rocks!!! The place was either busier than it seems or they are severely understaffed, but man it took almost an 45 minutes to get our food. However, Lillyann kept checking in, bringing what we asked (water and Tabasco sauce, we weren't being obnoxious lol). The food was alright, but disappointed that they didn't have the 2 items we had ordered - rib eye as the entree and then the asparagus as a side. Our second time here and honestly the service doesn't disappoint (with the exception of whomever brought our food). They were pretty good and they were huge! They were crispy on the outside with plenty of cheese and steak on the inside and it comes with guacamole and sour cream on the side but I preferred them with ranch. read more

Stopped at Black Angus for lunch today. One of the first things I noticed is how dated the restaurant looks. Torn/repaired booth seats , plenty of dust and dishes left on ledges,flickering ceiling lights. Took a long time to get our food. I'm assuming our food sat on the counter for a while, as it wasn't hot when it came out. Which is sad, the food was actually pretty good. My wife had the prime rib and eggs, I had the steak and grains bowl. If only it had been served at the right temperature. Schedule better Black Angus, or maybe have managers actually help instead of just telling people you're short staffed. The price was decent, but overall was a missed opportunity. read more

Visited there Friday evening to celebrate my cousin's 80th birthday. What a disappointment! They gave the impression that we would have a private room. At least that's what they paid for. There was no private room offered, so we were in the middle of this establishment trying to celebrate as a family. For the package they paid for all she got was 3 balloons, a birthday card and a sign acknowledging she was 80. The restaurant's menu does not match the online menu. I was so disappointed to get there knowing what I was going to order and it was not on the in house menu. My cousin had the same issue not finding what she had in mind to order. So we ordered from the menu. It was a party of about 10 people and the waitress mixed up all the orders and she did the same with the bill at the end of the night. I had not been to Black Angus in over 10 years, and this was quite a disappointment. I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. read more

In town for sad family reasons. Went in at 6:30 tonight, which is a Thursday. Admittedly just after my mom and I walked in, a party of 18 was seated. We were told 15 minutes for us to be seated so we stayed. We were not seated until 7. We had to ask what was happening with our seating and it seemed we were nearly forgetten, though the hostess said she was waiting for us to be seated until more of the large group had ordered. Fine. By 7:15 all my mom had to show for our 15 minutes of finally being at a table was water. We were still waiting on our waitress to bring us bread and let us order. We knew what wanted the entire time. We put our order in by 7:30 finally. And then the food started coming out. We purchased the large meal for 2 that includes an appetizer, two entrees, four sides and a dessert. Our potato skins were great, as was my mother's wedge salad. Steaks were out about 7:45 and were delicious.. I ordered a side of broccoli that per the menu. Was supposed to be roasted in garlic. It was cold and nearly raw on my plate. The manager came by to check and brought me a new order, that was slightly more cooked but still nearly raw and flavorless. Our steaks were amazing. They were the highlight for sure. Which is why you go to black angus. I had the strip and mom the ribeye. Our other sides were so so. We chose crème brûlée for dessert to go. After we laid our check, we walked out the door at 8:20. We spent two hours inside and were or checked on and had pretty poor service. Food was ok. After the large part of 18 was seated and served there wasn't a rush or ton of people. It was not a great experience. I'll recommend black angus in general for steak, but if I ever find myself in Bakersfield again. I'll pass. read more

The steak was good, cooked to what we had asked, but it is on the smaller side (6 oz), so keep that in mind. The lobster was tasty, but it was a pretty small portion. For sides, we chose the mac & cheese and the loaded baked potato, and both paired well with the meal. One thing I wouldn't recommend is the sauce that comes on the side for the shrimp, it wasn't great. Overall, I'd give Black Angus another try. read more

Our grandson was craving lobster the other night, and since he also likes battered fried shrimp, we thought Black Angus would be a safe choice for takeout. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a major disappointment--especially for the price. The lobster was shockingly bland. No smell, no flavor, nothing. Even the shell didn't have that fresh seafood aroma you'd expect. The fried shrimp was the same story--completely flavorless. I ordered the prime rib medium rare with a baked potato, baked potato soup, and broccoli. The prime rib came way overcooked, with none of the tenderness or juiciness you expect from prime rib. The baked potato was still hard in the center, clearly undercooked. The broccoli was bland and forgettable. My wife ordered a chicken dish, and while she didn't go into detail, her review was simple: she wouldn't order it again. To be fair, the baked potato soup was excellent--probably the highlight of the meal. The bread was also very good, and the butter, sour cream, and chives for the potato were fine... but that doesn't make up for the rest. For what was a very expensive meal, the food quality was nowhere near the price point. This will probably be our last time ordering Black Angus--at least for takeout. read more

This place has been a date night staple for us for going on 12 years. Being creatures of habit, we always order the same - campfire feast for two with the spinach dip to start, the top sirloin and chicken and half rack of ribs for the entrees and the fudge cake for dessert. The only real thing that changes for us is our drink selection and how much we've aged since the first time we came to Black Angus! Servers are always friendly and our food always come out great and in a timely manner. Can't go wrong at this place! Ordered pick up for 3 people. They apparently have discontinued their Lasso burger but my sister was happy with her chicken avocado sandwich. We got surf and turf and grilled salmon dinners. Food was good but I was extremely disappointed in service and got charged wrong. Me and my mom both ordered the three cheese bread and added steak to it. Menu price says $17.99 they charged us different they added $10 per meal for the steak which made it $23.99 each. Our waiter never checked on us. The manager ended up coming by and picking up our plates and asked if my daughter wanted her ice cream that came with her kids meal we said yes. 20 mins later still no ice cream and it wasn't busy at all. We never got a check ended up all getting up and walking to the front and our waiter met us there with the check. This visit was at the Black Angus in Bakersfield, CA, and it was supposed to be a birthday dinner for my dad. Unfortunately, the entire experience was a mess from start to finish. I ordered a fully loaded baked potato and a medium ribeye. What I received was cheesy potato au gratin and a well-done steak. When I brought this to the server's attention, the manager brought out a replacement steak about 10 minutes later, but it was rare. Instead of cooking a new steak, he took the same one back and reheated it. By the time it came back out, my entire family had already finished eating. To make matters worse, the service was rushed and inattentive. The server came by and asked how everything was, I said it was fine, and she immediately asked if I was ready for the bill and requested my card on the spot because she was "extremely busy." When my card was run, I noticed the charge was higher than expected. Looking at the receipt, I saw I had been charged for the well done ribeye and the reheated ribeye that should not have been on the bill at all. When I pointed it out, the server apologized and asked to rerun my card for a refund and correct charge. Within the next two minutes, I was charged two additional times. The manager eventually came back, apologized, and said it was a mistake and that I "shouldn't be concerned." No comp, no discount, nothing -- just a "sorry" and a request to come back. For a birthday dinner, this was embarrassing, frustrating, and completely unacceptable. Poor food execution, poor service, and careless handling of billing. I will never return. read more

Crispy bacon bits, melted cheese, delicious, what's not to love We both opted for a Caesar salad in addition to our meal. The salad was fresh but I thought it was kinda odd that it was very cold. Not just fresh cold, but very cold (I can only presume that it must've just come out of the refrigerator). I did like the croutons and cheese shavings, but this was a sad Caesar salad. Very lightly dressed and lacking flavor. I also opted for the 14oz New York Strip (medium-well), added sautéed mushrooms with a side of broccoli. The steak looked really good and was cooked perfectly to my liking with excellent flavor. The issue lies in the tenderness of the steak. While it was juicy, the meat was tough. The mushrooms were a total bust. I was expecting nice sliced mushrooms sautéed in butter, what I received was a tiny bit of dry rubbery bits. And the side of broccoli? Laughable. 2 small florettes, that's it. Is there a broccoli shortage that I'm not aware of because I don't know how 2 florettes equals a side of broccoli. My wife ordered a filet, with added bleu cheese and she really enjoyed it. I also tried it and it was super juicy and tender, delicious. (Just for comparison I took a picture of her loaded mashed potatoes so you can see a clear distinction in how a side order should look, and one where they're skimping and you're being cheated) I obviously couldn't leave without ordering the crème brûlée and I'm glad I did. We had a party of 20 with a reservation made 3 days prior on Saturday 12 6 2025 at 6pm...... only 1 waitress was assigned to us... she was hustling and did well... we asked to talk to the manager on duty his name was Nate..... And all we said was that the waitress should of had help instead of being by herself... she was over whelmed... all he said was nothing but excuses. .that they were slammed..(the restaurant was not very busy from what we could see... and just told us that it takes a while to get all our checks since there were 6 different tickets... Met a friend here for lunch. The restaurant was a bit packed for the lunch hour but I'm guessing because of the recent holidays and with schools still on winter recess. With it being a steakhouse, there's not many options lighter fare,. They don't offer a lunch menu either. However, my friend really wanted to eat her burger for lunch at this place. I ended up getting an order of shrimp scampi, side salad, and a cup of the steak soup. I haven't been to Black Angus in decades. Growing up I remember my dad taking the family to this steakhouse. I think a revamp of their menu might be overdue. But I'm sure there are some die-hard fans that would argue with me about that. read more

Went in for a nice family dinner and left very disappointed and will not ever return. Black Angus used to be good...what happened?! We arrived around 3:30. The restaurant was fairly empty. We were sat in the bar area. We waited about 10 minutes before the server came to greet us. We then waited 10 more minutes to get our drinks. I had asked for straws. Never saw them. We ordered our meals and then it began to spiral a bit more. The soup was cold. Then our meals come out. Myself and someone else at the table ordered a new york both medium. They came out well done. We sent them back. We ended up waiting almost 20 minutes before they came out. Meanwhile, everyone else at the table has already finished their meals. We cut into our steaks with the manager watching and they were both blue! At this point my brother was over it so he just took it. I sent mine back. It came out about 10 minutes later and was rare. I normally tend to not complain since i'm in the service industry but this was absolutely terrible. The waitress brings over the check just after I got my steak for the last time. She even went to the table next to us and dropped off their ticket and they mentioned they haven't even received their meals yet! The manager only gave us $10 off of our bill. No apology or anything. What is $10 going to do for the terrible service and food we received? I'm not sure if we went at the wrong time or if it's just terrible all of the time.
