Calamari
Angie B.

Visited Saturday for my nephew's birthday. We ordered calamari, cheese bread, and potstickers to start our dinner. The drinks and appetizers came out quickly. The calamari was delicious yet the spicy red sauce was personally not my favorite. I just feel it didn't pair well with the calamari. The tartar sauce was ok dipping sauce I just feel as though a better sauce could be accompanied with the calamari. The potstickers were delicious and the same red spicy sauce was paired with the potstickers yet honestly the sauce in the pan is great! The cheese bread with steak was delicious! One of my favorite appetizers of the evening. I ordered a 8 oz. sirloin with a mushrooms & blue cheese topper and mashed potatoes. I ordered the steak medium and was cooked more like a well done steak. Overall, waitress was great checking in and bringing refills and food was brought out promptly.

Only giving them 5 stars because Lillyann rocks!!! The place was either busier than it seems or they are severely understaffed, but man it took almost an 45 minutes to get our food. However, Lillyann kept checking in, bringing what we asked (water and Tabasco sauce, we weren't being obnoxious lol). The food was alright, but disappointed that they didn't have the 2 items we had ordered - rib eye as the entree and then the asparagus as a side. Our second time here and honestly the service doesn't disappoint (with the exception of whomever brought our food). Thanks Lillyann for giving it your all and, despite me knowing you were exhausted with all the running around you did, you never showed it!!!

I ordered the carne asada supreme potato skins on door dash. Black Angus usually has buy one get one free offers on there f y I. So I actually got two orders for 14.95. They were pretty good and they were huge! They were crispy on the outside with plenty of cheese and steak on the inside and it comes with guacamole and sour cream on the side but I preferred them with ranch.

We had a great time visiting Black Angus. Our food and service was amazing. Our server Mark went above and beyond. We never had to ask for refills or for anything extra because he was on top of it. My wife and I ordered the campfire feast and every thing was perfect! We came with a group of friends and the restaurant was a perfect vibe for us to catch up and laugh. Will definitely be returning.

Steak & Lobster Trio

Decided to stop by Black Angus to give it a try. Overall, the experience wasn't bad. Our waiter was attentive and checked in on us, though a few items took a bit longer to come out, but it was nothing major to complain about. We ordered the Steak & Lobster Trio. The steak was good, cooked to what we had asked, but it is on the smaller side (6 oz), so keep that in mind. The lobster was tasty, but it was a pretty small portion. For sides, we chose the mac & cheese and the loaded baked potato, and both paired well with the meal. One thing I wouldn't recommend is the sauce that comes on the side for the shrimp, it wasn't great. Overall, I'd give Black Angus another try.

This place has been a date night staple for us for going on 12 years. Being creatures of habit, we always order the same - campfire feast for two with the spinach dip to start, the top sirloin and chicken and half rack of ribs for the entrees and the fudge cake for dessert. The only real thing that changes for us is our drink selection and how much we've aged since the first time we came to Black Angus! Servers are always friendly and our food always come out great and in a timely manner. Can't go wrong at this place! I will say that the only real problem I found with our visit this time is the giant tear in the fabric where we were seated.

Enjoyed the ambiance, it was buzzing with energy during the football game. Servers were friendly and the food was good.

First off came today on a whim. Saw there was a special for NY steak and decided to come on and give it a try. Been years since I came to Black Angus. The hostess and waitress were great and super nice. The steak was pretty tender and flavorful. Asparagus was good as well as the Mac and Cheese. Cannot forget the bread they serve before the meal. Honestly it was a bit dry, it was warm but also toasted some which could be why it's dry. Would come back.

Food was good but I was extremely disappointed in service and got charged wrong. Me and my mom both ordered the three cheese bread and added steak to it. Menu price says $17.99 they charged us different they added $10 per meal for the steak which made it $23.99 each. Our waiter never checked on us. The manager ended up coming by and picking up our plates and asked if my daughter wanted her ice cream that came with her kids meal we said yes. 20 mins later still no ice cream and it wasn't busy at all. We never got a check ended up all getting up and walking to the front and our waiter met us there with the check. The manager also asked on my way out if we got our ice cream I told him no and he just shook his head. But like I said fabulous food, horrible service, and they did overcharge me.

No reason for these mistakes!

This visit was at the Black Angus in Bakersfield, CA, and it was supposed to be a birthday dinner for my dad. Unfortunately, the entire experience was a mess from start to finish. I ordered a fully loaded baked potato and a medium ribeye. What I received was cheesy potato au gratin and a well-done steak. When I brought this to the server's attention, the manager brought out a replacement steak about 10 minutes later, but it was rare. Instead of cooking a new steak, he took the same one back and reheated it. By the time it came back out, my entire family had already finished eating. To make matters worse, the service was rushed and inattentive. The server came by and asked how everything was, I said it was fine, and she immediately asked if I was ready for the bill and requested my card on the spot because she was "extremely busy." When my card was run, I noticed the charge was higher than expected. Looking at the receipt, I saw I had been charged for the well done ribeye and the reheated ribeye that should not have been on the bill at all. When I pointed it out, the server apologized and asked to rerun my card for a refund and correct charge. Within the next two minutes, I was charged two additional times. The manager eventually came back, apologized, and said it was a mistake and that I "shouldn't be concerned." No comp, no discount, nothing -- just a "sorry" and a request to come back. For a birthday dinner, this was embarrassing, frustrating, and completely unacceptable. Poor food execution, poor service, and careless handling of billing. I will never return.

New York Strip, sautéed mushrooms and a shameful "side" of broccoli
Matthew C.

Dinner date with the wifey so thought we'd eat somewhere we hadn't been in a while. We couldn't remember why it's been so long since our last visit here, but after dining again I suspect I know...To start we shared an appetizer of the loaded potato skins. Crispy bacon bits, melted cheese, delicious, what's not to love We both opted for a Caesar salad in addition to our meal. The salad was fresh but I thought it was kinda odd that it was very cold. Not just fresh cold, but very cold (I can only presume that it must've just come out of the refrigerator). I did like the croutons and cheese shavings, but this was a sad Caesar salad. Very lightly dressed and lacking flavor. I also opted for the 14oz New York Strip (medium-well), added sautéed mushrooms with a side of broccoli. The steak looked really good and was cooked perfectly to my liking with excellent flavor. The issue lies in the tenderness of the steak. While it was juicy, the meat was tough. The mushrooms were a total bust. I was expecting nice sliced mushrooms sautéed in butter, what I received was a tiny bit of dry rubbery bits. And the side of broccoli? Laughable. 2 small florettes, that's it. Is there a broccoli shortage that I'm not aware of because I don't know how 2 florettes equals a side of broccoli. My wife ordered a filet, with added bleu cheese and she really enjoyed it. I also tried it and it was super juicy and tender, delicious. (Just for comparison I took a picture of her loaded mashed potatoes so you can see a clear distinction in how a side order should look, and one where they're skimping and you're being cheated) I obviously couldn't leave without ordering the crème brûlée and I'm glad I did. So good, loved it. I will say our server was very good. Very attentive, very friendly. Unfortunately not the experience I had hoped for. No wonder...

Last year I made a large reservation for about 10 ladies to celebrate someone and on the way to the restaurant they called to confirm the reservation (about 30 minutes before), but I did not hear my phone. When I arrived, a distraught friend told me that they did not have our reservation so I asked what the issue was. The manager told me because I did not confirm, they were not sure they were going to hold the table. I apologized that I had not recieved a call, but asked if we could still have the table (I was there on time and could see the large table with the reservation note on it). The manager begrungenly said they would allow us to still dine with them, but they said they would not seat us until more of our party arrived. I asked if we could wait for our party at the bar, but they said they would not because every seat at the bar was taken. So just a heads up, you cannot stand at the bar, you cannot stand around the restaurant, and they do not have a place to sit and wait for your table, you just have to stand outside (I'm sure it has to do with safety or firecodes, I didn't argue, we waited outside until people at the bar left). Once we were seated, the staff was not friendly. Wondering if we should leave or not, I called a friend who works near the building who frequents this place often on what I should do. He told me to go back inside and that the staff would be nice. When I returned, a new server came to our table with a tray of shots and said they would be taking care of us for the rest of the evening. I figured maybe the manager and that other server was just having a bad day, my friend must have called the restaurant and asked his most trusted server to help us, and enjoyed the rest of our evening. I didn't want to risk it another bad experience, so I haven't returned since. A few months ago during the whole Cesar Chavez news broke out, that friend who frequented the place went with another friend to the Botonist and was talking about the news while they were dining. The manager overheard. Later when my friends were getting ready to leave, the manager started becoming upset with my friends and told my guy friend, "I HOPE SOMEBODY R*PES YOU". Stunned, he asked her to repeat herself and she did. My friends left. The chefs and building are wonderful, but obviously something needs to be done about the management and staff with being professional and treating customers with respect. I've worked in the service industry and understand how stressful it can be, but I have always been able to keep my cool around people who are trying to enjoy a nice meal. Hoping they recieve the help they need as I love to see my community thrive.

One of my dining companions had the Ribeye with a loaded baked potato. Another had the Filet with bleu cheese & baked potato and lastly the scrumptious lamb lollipops. Another memorable dining experience. We ended the meal with their famous Malva cake. So moist, rich and delicious. If you've never had it, it's a must try.

There was no host stand, no greeting, and no indication of what we were supposed to do. I eventually asked the bartender about our reservation. He seemed mildly annoyed that I had interrupted whatever invisible task he was doing and told us we'd have to wait for the host. So we waited. And waited. Once seated, we ordered drinks and were served warm bread with butter knives. The problem? There was no butter. Instead, there were candles heating cups of drawn garlic butter that nobody explained. The waiter described it as a powerhouse flavor. Imagine garlic butter LaCroix. Technically present, but only as a rumor. The pacing of service was glacial. Not relaxed. Not upscale. Just slow. The entire evening felt like a social experiment where everyone involved was pretending to operate a fine dining restaurant while waiting to see if customers would notice. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, which were apparently a house favorite. I sincerely hope that's no longer true. The filling was confusing enough, but someone decided to glaze them with a sweet sauce that made the entire dish taste like a dare. We took a few bites and surrendered. Then came the steaks. My fiancée ordered the filet medium rare. It arrived with the texture of warm oatmeal and was drowning beneath balsamic reduction and Gorgonzola. The steak itself was so soft and underdone it resembled a pink marshmallow more than beef. My strip steak arrived covered in gravy. Not a sauce. Gravy. To complete the experience, we both ordered baked potatoes. Because surely nobody can mess up a baked potato. We were informed that bacon and sour cream would cost an additional $2. Nothing says "premium steakhouse" quite like nickel-and-diming toppings for a baked potato. By the end of the meal, we were struggling to identify a single redeeming part of the experience. The service was slow. The food was baffling. The atmosphere felt like everyone--staff and customers alike--was participating in the same awkward experiment. Horse in the Alley desperately wants to be a fine dining destination. Unfortunately, wanting and being are two very different things. ***Our server Samantha was very sweet and even comped the stuffed mushrooms. But this was easily the worst $200 I've ever spent.
