This was a neat stop right off the freeway. Literally an old diner that has been kept up during the years. Service was friendly and helpful, always anticipating what we needed. I ordered the Chicken Chile Verde Enchiladas for breakfast, which came with eggs, potatos and bread on the side. These enchiladas were really tasty, the verde salsa was delicious. The ranch beans served on the side had a nice spice to them and they tasted great. The biscuits were very dense and fresh,.maybe too dense for this meal. The gravy was served hot and was tasty. The last 3 or 4 times I have eaten at Milt's my order has not been prepared as I asked and it has become increasingly frustrating as I have had to each time send my food back to be redone before it is right... There is one server in particular that is too loud for me and I always hope that I am not seated in her section... This morning however, I was seated in her section... I read the room very quickly today and told my husband that this time was most likely going to be one of these bad experiences... I could not have been more right... There were approximately 5 employees working and approximately 6-7 tables with customers... It took about 10 minutes or so before anyone took our drink order due the loud server having too many tables to properly attend to with one being a fair sized party... A couple arrived after we did and the loud server took their order, delivered their food while mine was sitting on the kitchen counter, then she proceeded to have a chat with this couple as if they were the only customers in the diner... I know this because the couple were seated in the booth in front of and as I have stated before in this review, the server is loud... When she did bring my food, the potatoes were not only runny, they were cold... It took some time for her to get back to our table and when she finally did, I told her the potatoes were cold...Her response? ''Oh'' I get that it is a diner with a short order cook, but there is ZERO reason for cold mashed potatoes... The loud server did ask if I wanted my order remade, but I was aggravated and not willing to wait another 30 minutes or so for a remade order while the server resumed with personal chit chat with other customers instead of attending to the few tables she had, so I declined... There were two other servers (one with the really cool foreign accent and a tall one with a pony tail...) that had no tables and who were doing nothing...There was no reason either one of them could not have helped out by at least delivering the food to the customers... The prices are too high for crap service and cold food... As I was leaving, I told the server with the accent who was at that moment at the cashier station that I was tired of getting bad service and food and that I would not be coming back until they got their act together... On a positive note: The only time I have gotten excellent customer service is when Mercy has been working... Unfortunately, Mercy has different hours now and is not there when we come in at our regular time... I do not care what alternate name you give this restaurant, whether it be Milt's or something else, the underlying owner is still ORG... I am beyond sick and tired of seeing ORG all over B-town and not without reason... I used to go to ORG on Calloway and not one single time in the upwards of 10+ times I ordered a Patty Melt could they get it right... I had many conversations with the manager/franchise owner regarding this as over half the time, the meat was undercooked and all of the time, they were either unable or unwilling to put together a simple meat, cheese and bread order... I stopped going to ORG because of this and every time I see an ORG, I am disgusted... None of this ongoing crap with ORG is worth it anymore... Food: pancakes, bacon, chicken fried chicken and hashbrowns were good - 7.5/10 overall. Biscuits and gravy were bland and eggs were served cold. Service was...bizarre. Our waiter spilled an entire tray of iced teas and waters next to/on us, and then left to change his apron and serve other tables while we sat dripping and ignored for nearly 15 mins until I had to flag someone down to help us clean because my shoes were soaked through and the liquid river continued under our table (he handed me a few napkins until I insisted on an actual mop, which he obliged with an audible sigh). Someone finally put down a wet floor sign, and considering all the elderly diners they didn't seem concerned about the giant puddle in the walkway that went ignored. I don't care about the spill, but just apologize and clean up - don't disappear and then come back only to announce that you're going on break. We finally got another server to take our order, but it was such an odd "we don't like non-locals" vibe that we ate quickly and got outta there. We loved this place!! The service was above and beyond, and the inside of the restaurant is just adorable like a fifties diner. The food was fresh made from scratch and reminded me of my grandma's cooking. We decided to have breakfast for dinner. We ordered the chickenand waffles, cowboy potatoes, eggs and biscuits and gravy. My grandson had hot chocolate and I had a bloody mary, both were delicious. The fried chicken was the best fried chicken that I have had in many years. Margot was our server and she answered all of our questions. I asked her about their clam chowder and she said, let me bring you both a sample, so that was really nice and let me tell you that clam chowder is wonderful, soooo good! I haven't felt well all weekend, so making breakfast did not sound like fun after sleeping in. So I decided to bring my girls with me to Milt's for breakfast this morning. We were seated right away, even though they were clearly busy. Our waitress was super attentive and provided great, fast service. The restaurant was clean and had a cherry vibe. Our food came out fairly quick and was delicious. We placed a to go order for my husband that came out with the check, so that was perfect so it was nice and hot for him when we got home. This place is a little off of the beaten path for us, but when in need of a "big salad" like Elaine from Seinfeld, you go where you need to go. And since it's open on a Friday night, it fits my "no cook Friday" plans. The staff is super friendly and the menu is basic diner with a few extras, including monthly specials. I like how it's old, with the counter in the center of the room and a bar, feels nostalgic. I am giving 4 stars, because some nights the food is just so-so or sub par and sometimes it's awesome. I feel like it depends on the cook. I swear last time they served me some re-fried fries! Sad, but true, and my friend got a rather soggy chicken fried steak. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating with table, bar, and booth options being inside. Most importantly they are very flexible with their menus and will do substitutions as needed. My turkey sandwich was a bit on the blah side. The fries were nicely seasoned, though. The place looks very clean, and the manager was quite accommodating for our takeout. They missed my online order request to swap out the cheese on the sandwich, though. When I looked on Yelp's app, I saw chicken pot pie but when I got there it wasn't on menu. I saw turkey dip which I've never seen before. Similar to beef dip but with turkey and grilled onions and turkey au just. The fries were very crispy and hot. The sandwich was made with Pyrenees roll which is a local 100 year old bakery. The turkey was real not the processed kind. The au just was a little salty. The place reminds you of an old diner with booths for sitting. We hadn't visited this place in a long time so we thought let's go. As we walk in we were instantly greeted and seated. Our drink order taken and we got complimentary banana bread which was delicious. On this visit my husband ordered the Killer Kern Omelette with biscuit and gravy. Food was full of flavor and very delicious. The potatoes were cooked and seasoned well. The biscuit and gravy were homemade and very delicious too. It just melted in your mouth. I had the chorizo and eggs with beans, potatoes and tortilla. I loved the beans so tasty and just the right amount of salt. The chorizo was good too but just a little greasy but it is chorizo and that's what you expect anyways so it wasn't a big deal. The tortilla was a burrito size which I didn't expect but loved this option. Overall food was good and service was amazing and it was pretty quiet in there considering it's a week day. My father and I stopped in for brunch today, he'd mentioned how they had the best fried chicken he'd ever had thirty years ago and since we were in the neighborhood we thought we'd see how well they stood up. The waitress was very friendly and very accommodating, refills came frequently, and we didn't have to wait long at all for our orders. There was never a time we were waiting on them long enough to notice it. I often opt for cheeseburgers because even when they aren't perfect they are always okay I'm not often surprised but I am never disappointed.. I loved this one though. Product was fresh, the patty had a great flavor but it was also perfectly tender and with just enough moisture to compliment the texture without any extra that could make a mess. This review is for about one month ago, an evening visit at about 7:00. I had the CFS, and my wife had the "new york strip", medium rare. Mine was OK. The "new york strip" was a cheap cut that was vastly overcooked. I was not a strip, probably a cheap cut od sirloin. Yea, the switch was in. The rolls were dry around the edges, not soft like they are when they are fresh. We ordered a piece of cake to go and it was a very small wedge of cake handed to us in a bag. A true rip off at like $8.95, maybe a $4.00 piece of cake. If you get cake to go, open the bag and look at it. If we would have looked before we paid, Margo could keep the scrawny tidbit of some very good tasting cake. Drinks are like $5.00 again, what a terrible value. Service was OK. Ambiance, on the surface it is "old school" Milts but it has that subtle undercurrent of ORG making it unpleasant. Never would Milts have $5.00 non alcohol drinks such as coffee and tea. The beignets are Perfection. The perfect texture and perfect amount of sweetness. Amazing with coffee. The breakfasts here haven't changed- only the name of the joint has. The service is always on point. The type of place where the waitresses call you "sweetheart" and "honey" (which I happen to love) I ordered chile verde chilaquiles & was in spicy breakfast heaven. I mean, just look at our food! No one does breakfast like previously-known-as Milts. Old River Grill is doing well and keeping things hearty and delicious. I am never disappointed. Well was hoping for more :(. We came in around 10am for breakfast. We haven't been back since they changed the name back to Milts. Service was ok in the beginning but after our order our server was moved to a different station and the person he introduced us to pretty much forgot us. I ordered the chili verde omelette and my wife ordered the ground sirloin patty and eggs. It took a long time for our food to arrive. The chili-verde was lukewarm warm and super salty. I have been a customer at Milts for quite some time. It has always been my go to place for breakfast and dinner on occasion. I am sad to say it has become what I would call cafeteria food. Yes the place is clean and the service is great but the food sucks. I had a dish of what was supposed to be Pasta with meat sauce and it was horrible. They used to make the best home made desserts well no longer. We just returned yesterday to Milts after they switched back to the old menu and recipes. First of all cudos to Milts for their employee Avery. He gave us great service. He was quick efficient and super friendly. We ordered the ground sirloin and eggs and an omelet with sausage and two drinks. The omelet was good although I thought it was smaller. My husband enjoyed his breakfast. I did think $7.00 for four small link sausage was too high. We would go back. I hope Milts works out as it was one if my favorite diners. Thanks Avery. read more
