My first time at this family friendly diner and I thought the bear themed atmosphere was fun. Cute to see black bears everywhere and they even sell black bear gifts. They're well known for their large breakfasts and comfort food. I ordered their build your own bears choice breakfast ($12.99) and got eggs, hickory smoked ham steak and upgraded to cinnamon French toast for an additional $3.99. The portion size was huge and I could only finish about half of it. I especially enjoyed the cinnamon French toast as it was decadent without being overly sweet. They had some good looking desserts including homemade pies, fruit cobblers and bread pudding. I was too full to try but definitely will come back another time for dessert and coffee. read more

We went at 7am and were the only patrons but the restaurant started filling up quickly. With the amount of customers, the server did very well as she was very friendly and on top of everything. They serve breakfast all day. I had their French toast with hickory smoked ham and scrambled eggs. I thought it was just average in taste. It reminds me of eating at Denny's. I really want to like this place because the service was genuinely great. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we were taken care of, which I truly appreciate. That said, the food itself was just okay and didn't live up to the experience the service provided. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out or made me want to come back for the food alone. read more

I don't care what anyone says but I love Black Bear Diner! They have the best eggs, Benedict hands-down. The hollandaise sauce is perfect. The egg was perfectly poached and the English muffin was nice and soft. I've had Eggs Benedict all over the world and I still say Black Bear Diner makes the absolute best! It is a big restaurant and the portions are also big. The food was good. I like a smaller restaurant but it served the 7 of us just fine. I had a ham and cheese omelette and coffee. This is a very good restaurant for family meal. Have eaten there numerous times for breakfast or for an afternoon meal and have found the service is very good and the portions of food are very good. The BEST Roasted Turkey Dinner I have had in years!!! I am just amazed at how flavorful and juicy it was. The portions were enormous! it was served with soup or salad. I had the wonderfully tasty salad. My sister had the soup which she said was very enjoyable. Onion rings were outstanding! If I had to say one thing I did not love, it was the string beans, but you cant have everything perfect. Btw, if you love corn muffins, the dinner is served with a delicious one! If you get a chance, try the turkey, they have it in club sandwiches and hot open in addition to the dinner. I was trying to waste time waiting for the guy, so I decided to stop and grab a bite to eat. Upon entry, standing there, looking crazy, 2 employees looked at me and said absolutely NOTHING!!! There's a sign that says"wait to be seated". Didn't even get a "we will be with you nor hi"!!! It was my waitress who screamed across the room, acknowledging, my as well as, others entrance... at least, she was nice! ‍ My waitress was really nice and on top of things! The only complaint I had was, when I asked for a container to- go, that she stated that they had none for the syrup, but then, I described the container that I obviously knew that they have l, since I knew that not everyone eats indoors of restaurants and since I've ordered to-go items from here before( and knew that they had the containers ). She was able to provide me with the containers I needed. I didn't want to waste since I wasn't able to eat nor touch the pancakes so I took them to go. In case, I wanted to eat them while out and about. (Stop judging) I got the "GRIZZLY"which is, always the !!! You get so much food eating at these restaurants, which is, why I like it! The Grizzly is honestly enough for 2 ppl but again, I'm greedy! Pancakes,grits, egg whites, ham, and bacon (oh, with that fresh glass of orange juice). Shout out to the cooks and my waitress for being nice, for speaking and for welcoming my entrance . It was a disappointing from when we walked in. Sign stated "please wait to be seated" we waited, and waited and waited. There was a girl (hostess maybe?) rolling silverware and had her back towards us and two woman were in the kitchen clear view of us, chatting. We stood there for a good 5-10 mins abs my husband said "let's go somewhere else, they are not going to seat us. As we are walking out, is when someone yelled "hi". We love going here with the family. The food is good portion sizes are generous and shareable. The ambiance is nice plenty of seating booths and tables. Cozy family diner vibes. We were seated promptly and food got to the table pretty quickly I love the omelettes and the huckleberry lemonade. Save room for dessert they have some really good ones like bread pudding. I ordered ahead and it still took awhile for my order to come out since there were so many people there. The parking lot was busy and it was hard to find a space. Even inside all of the seating was taken. Maybe we are just a community who loves breakfast foods especially pancakes and waffles. This place must be good! The eggs came out sweet. I am used to salty eggs or eggs that are not sweet. Not sure if this was how they usually make them or if it was just how they came out for me. They did come out a little runny. I was expecting them to come out a little differently. The waffle was soft through and through. I was hoping for it to come out with a crisp on the outside. Even though they were called sweet cream waffles, I didn't see any sweet cream on them and they didn't taste sweet. Actually, they were less sweet than the eggs. I have ordered from blackbear probably six times. I really love their big breakfast with the ham steak, I usually get that with biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are pretty flavorless and there's not enough gravy at all. Once I ordered the meatloaf and it was awful, the rest of the meal was good. I just ordered the fried fish, I had high hopes for it, but it was flavorless as well. I guess for the price I shouldn't complain. I'll just stick to what I know is good, the breakfast. read more

If you go to Black Bear, just remember you're going to a diner with an extensive menu. Be careful what you order. Some things are better than others. I had the burger and it was at least a three star burger. The fries were wonderful the service good I've been there before for breakfast and it was also good. It's definitely not a five star restaurant but if you want something quick and in a hurry in a quiet and clean place, you should give blackbear a try. read more

I haven't been I'm here since prior to COVID 19 - customer service is enough to keep me away. The gothic looking hostess had a pretty gothic attitude, super unfriendly and impatient. Not sure how or why she is the hostess, perhaps she would be better in the back washing dishes :-) definitely not dealing with customers. I had the club sandwich vegetarian style and honestly. It was good. My friends had the meatloaf, salad and Chile and they all enjoyed their food. It was later in the day and it was surprisingly slow. Breakfast is usually pretty busy but like I said, it's been awhile since I've been here. To sum it up, if you don't care about the service, you might enjoy. For me personally, service is important and we have a lot of options, so I will pass on this Black Bear Diner location and not recommend to others. read more

The portion sizes her are almost too big. I mean sure, if I am a lumberjack or maybe planning on training for a trip to the wilderness they would be alright. But for a standard accountant on a Sunday afternoon, who needs to load up on that many calories? Still, the food is absolutely wonderful, which is what keeps drawing me back. Well that, and the amazing fresh squeezed orange juice. Alas, the juicing machine was down when I visited this location for the first time, so I was very sad. It's one of the reasons I dig Black Bear! I haven't been to this location before, but I wasn't surprised by the long wait as it's standard at all the Black Bear restaurants. Needed breakfast as the hotel breakfast was not good. So he googled it and found this place. It's got a woodsy feel and quaint. Seemed like they have regulars and the wait staff interacted well with them. I ordered eggs over easy with French toast and bacon. He had an omelet with meat he said. :) The food was good. I should have gotten toast instead as I'm not as fond of sweets in the morning. But it was tasty and hot. And orange juice was so good. He liked his omelette and the coffee which the server put into a to go cup for him. There is a little gift nook with bear claw back scratchers, bear backpacks, bear stuffed animals and other knickknacks. And the decor is log cabin, woods and bears hanging or carved everywhere. Clean bathrooms and parking is available. There is also a case with desert items by the hostess stand. And real 'newspaper' menus add charm to the experience. Black bear diner was one of our go to up in salinas, California. When it came to Phoenix we were excited but the restaurants in Phoenix just didn't not have the service or experience and we stopped going. My buddy made me go here and try it out. I've been back three times since. The customer service is what gets me to spend money. The food is very good but I wouldn't say it's anything different then it's competition but it is good. From walking in to walking out it was easy and the service was genuine. Met one of the managers. A male. He was very cordial although you could tell he was busy. The burgers are big. The best part is the bun. Which tastes homemade. It's a thick dense bun and the flavor is tasty. It really makes the burger better then it's competition but the sides are very controlled. It's supposed to be a hearty meal so I expect a little more cushion to the fries and/or onion rings. My bestie loves there big breakfast. It gives him all the breakfast protein he desires.
