One thing I forgot to mention in my original review: the French Toast Monte Cristo is no longer on the menu, but when my husband asked about it, Tawny went above and beyond and checked with the kitchen. The chef remembered how to make it and was happy to prepare it for him. That extra effort and willingness to accommodate a guest really stood out. Went here for my wife's birthday dinner last night, and I wasn't expecting much because I have never been impressed with this place. As we walked in the door I smelled a strong smell of liquid smoke. I should have paid attention to that more, because I hate liquid smoke flavor. My mom had a cheeseburger and Fry's, my wife had their seasonal vegetable quiche, and I had the ribeye dinner. The cheeseburger looked good, and the shoestring frys were decent. My wife liked the quiche she had, but to me it looked like it came from the frozen food section in the store. My steak was the worst steak I have ever had eating out. The steak tasted like it was soaked in liquid smoke flavor for hours before they cooked it. I ordered it rare to medium rare and it wasn't overcooked really, but it didn't have time to burn off any of the fake liquid smoke flavor. The other issue with my dinner was that they don't serve baked potatoes here at all, and I didn't want frys or mashed potatoes so I ordered the fried breakfast potatoes. They came out very dark brown and almost black looking, but the inside was still hard and not cooked well on many of them. I will give them credit for the garlic spinach. It was a small serving, but it had a good amount of garlic in it. Another stranger thing I noticed on the menu was that the ribeye costs almost $2 more if you order steak and eggs, but the ny strip is almost $2 cheaper with steak and eggs. WTF? I wouldn't suggest ordering ANY steak here ever! I'm sticking to my 20+ year opinion of this place. It's WAY OVERRATED! The almost $100 bill with the 18% tip was ridiculous for the quality of food we received. The service was decent, but the place is LONG OVERDUE for a makeover, or at least a good cleaning. The finish on the table we sat at was worn off in long sections, and the raw wood doesn't clean very well. I could see into the kitchen, and there was a big section of the ceiling that appeared water damaged. I bet they'd fail a health inspection. read more

I have lived and shopped in the same area as this restaurant for many years but never stopped in. After having breakfast here recently I am wondering why I never stopped in. The breakfast here was AMAZING! The hash actually had chunks of meat in it instead of just being straight up mashed meat. The croissant was warm and buttery. Didn't even need the butter it came with. The potatoes were cooked to perfection and the eggs were spot on to my requested preparation style. The restaurant interior was nice and quiet (we were the only ones there on a Sunday morning that early). The decor is beautiful! Our waitstaff was on top of it and very polite. First, I just want to mention it was Mother's Day brunch so of course it's gonna be crazy busy. I just wanna explain what happened hoping that management might make some changes for the future. It did kind of sour the experience taking my mom here when we had a reservation, and it took almost an hour to get seated after our reservation time. The hostesses seemed very confused and kept talking to each other and trying to figure out what to do. They kept saying we were up next and showed us on the list but then they would seat four or five more people until we go back and ask again what happened and they'd say oh, yes you're next. Went on like this for quite a while. I felt bad for the staff. They seemed unsure what to do in this situation and there were many many parties coming up to their stand yelling or getting upset saying they've been here forever. It wasn't just us. The whole lobby was completely packed with people waiting and outside the front door. Obviously, with the crowd this big the kitchen was backed up about 30 minutes or more to get our food once we ordered, which was fine as our server was great and explained this to us when we sat down. Even though he was slammed, he did bring refills in a timely manner and our muffins out ahead of time to keep us from getting angry with no food lol. We didn't realize there was a tiny reduced menu for Mother's Day, and everybody was super disappointed as we all had items picked out that we wanted none of which were on the menu. I'll start out with two positives. It s been quite a while since I've ate at Mimi's. Very nice staff that created us as well as our server. He came back to check on us and fill drinks. The food was still good like I remember. The only con is $22 for a half chicken sandwich that was to be on chibata bread, but was more like a bun and a cup of corn chowder. I've driven by this place so many times and finally decided to stop in on a Saturday afternoon. The decor is very cute and gives fall vibes, which I loved. We typically don't do appetizers anymore but decided to give the wings a shot since we didn't expect to see them on the menu. They were cooked to perfection and the sauce wasn't super spicy so I was able to enjoy a couple as well. My partner had the turkey club, he loved it paired with the fries & honey mustard sauce. I had the sandwich trio with the Tuna melt and caesar salad. The sandwich was more than I expected, the toast itself was cooked with parmesan cheese and that added to the melty warmth of the tuna. Went to Mimi's recently haven't been there for years, went for Lunch. I got the French Quarter (Bacon Avocado Burger) $18. The wife got a Turley club, $18. One of the best parts was our waitresses was on top of our drinks. Most of the time didn't have to ask, they just showed up, I love that. Wish I caught her name. We had reservations for Thanksgiving at 4:00 PM. We arrived at 3:45 PM. We didn't get seated until 5:15 PM. It was chaos. When we checked in we asked how late they were seating people and the response was that the hostess/host were not allowed to ask the manager(s) for updates. Really? We had a lovely lunch here! We ordered the cobb salad, which was beautifully presented and all ingredients were fresh and well chopped for easy mixing, with a homemade tasting ranch dressing. We also got the French dip, which was good too, tasty bread, enough meat and crispy fries on the side. The portions felt a little small for the price but decent, and the service was very good. ThanksGiving dinner, Big day for us all our kids were out of town so the wife and I decided to go to Mini"s in Chandler. We made reservations 3 days ahead and we showed up 20 minutes early, Wow people standing outside and jammed inside too. we were told about an hour wait so we settled down and started the wait it only lasted about 40 minutes. The hostess was fantastic at handling all the incoming people and the reservations. It looked like controlled chaos but she was amazing keeping things moving as smouthing as possible. We were seated and the servers were great, very patient and friendly even though we heard some people grumbling like little spoiled children. Our service by Kyleigh yesterday was great. We were seated in a booth that faced a large group and in family area with a couple annoyed toddlers so thinking host could have thought that through better since we were just 2 adults. The other quieter dining room was available. Food was just okay--scrambled eggs, pork sausage and ham overall. The salsa is very good. Absolutely awful. This so-called chicken sandwich was nothing but a thick slab of greasy, over-fried breading. The chicken inside was laughably thin -- maybe 1/8 of an inch -- and bone dry. It tasted like it had been fried to death hours ago. Zero flavor, zero moisture, zero effort. Hands down the worst chicken sandwich I've ever had. The mashed potatoes and green beens were so good! Perfect for someone recovering from a dental procedure. Our waitress was Stephanie, and oh my gosh she is the best server I've had in Arizona! This was a large party. 13 people table. I ordered the crab Benedict. The cook put very little hollandaise sauce. Not that great. Similar comments from others. Potato hash had the potatoes and some veggies undercooked. Omelets not done well. Some overcooked, some undercooked. Chicken in the chicken and waffles missing seasoning. In all the food was underwhelming with very few Loki g their dishes. Being the case that breakfast venues are plenty, not sure this Mimi's Cafe makes enough of a case to come back. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. They can sure do better. Follow up: I got a response from Mimi's management. I always have to give credit when they do that. Bravo for listening! Stopped by when I was in town visiting family. It was a little busy but we were sat quickly and the service was great! Our server greeted us and recommended the florentine Benedict, I'm so glad I listened to her cause it was delish! My husband got the bacon avocado omelet and we split the breakfast crepes. The crepes were savory so we added a side of avocado to them. Our server was friendly and she did a great job explaining the menu to us.
