I've been to almost every single Black Bear Diner location in Southern California, and this is the only location that doesn't allow me to order the chicken fried steak omelette which is a menu option during certain times of the year. So instead I have to do the "build your own omelette" and get charged about seven dollars more every time I order it. Every single other location I've been to allows me to order it. If you have the ingredients, let me order it. The waitresses are sweet and nice but the managers seem to have a problem because when I asked the lady manager about it she just looked at me dumbfounded and said "okay." read more

Over priced & food not all that. My $15.99 combo breakfast ended up costing $33.67. Side of hash browns $6.99, side wheat toast $4.39 & coffee $3.99. The "server" just set plates & drinks on one side & expected us to pass it out. I had to ask her to deliver the hot coffee to the person on the other side so we didn't have to pass it by the babies. We had 2 toddlers in our party. She did it but not with a smile. This not the 1st bad experience at this location but thought we try again, lunch special is good. Horrible food! I ordered the prime rib and it was thin and looked like an over cooked steak. I ordered it medium rare and it was well done. So I got the meatloaf instead and that was straight up hospital food! No flavor, gross and bland. My sis ordered the salmon and it was dry. Vegetables were still raw. My mom's coffee tasted like metal! We've never had such a bad experience at any Black Bear Diner's. We will not return to this location. Second time here and it's a ghost town. For someone who likes to eat breakfast for lunch, Black Bear Diner is just the place to go. The location is convenient, very close to the freeway exit. Plenty parking spaces to pick from. I like all the murals around the building, and those bear sculptures that welcome us to visit. There are many items I wanted to try, then decided on omelette today. The serving size is generous. Ambience: Standard diner vibes :) There's a decently sized waiting area with merchandise available for purchase near the entrance. The menu is designed as a newspaper, which was quite cute and creative! Lots of bear-themed decor paying homage to the name. Service: We were seated immediately once our party had arrived. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating despite our large party (8+ people). Food came out quickly! Taste: Got the blackened pesto salmon, which was fairly standard, but portions are enormous! The food was horrible, the omelette I order onions and peppers we not sauteed long enough, they we so hard. Potatoes was hard also. The cook is horrible me & my husband stopped by on a Tuesday morning whoever the cook is needs to do better. Excellent diner located in Colton just south of the Arrowhead Regional Hospital. It's also located in the same plaza of an Arco gas station. Great place to come for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The times I've gone (on several occasions - including on weekends) there has never been a wait for more than 10-15 minutes. They also have fairly large portions of food. If you're coming for breakfast - they have an awesome and affordable kids menu, which includes delicious stuff like a bear styled pancake. That's a great option for kids! I have been to other Black Bear Diners and the one in Rialto California, the quality of food is poorer. I've came to the Rialto one a few times and it's different each time. The salads have old lettuce and the other Black Bear diners don't. Only Rialto branch. I bought a loaded salad to take home and got home and there was very chicken on it. The avocado was blackened and mushy. Why would they use old food. The salad for take out had very little bacon and croutons and cheese. I was mad but live 30 minutes from that store so I didn't go back to have them fix it. I had to throw it away after paying 12 bucks for it. I don't why the Rialto branch is not good like other stores in other places . The salad was terrible. Even when you eat there the lettuce is brown and old. Good luck everyone. My friend told me about Black Bear Diner and it's impressive meals so I was very happy to see one open near the county hospital where I frequently spend my work hours. I have an obsession for French Toast and this place definitely delivered! Service was a bit slow, but I was so enamored with the bear theme that I didn't mind the long wait for a coffee refill. Next time I'll probably just sit at the counter and see if that helps to keep my cup filled. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu, but it's definitely going to be difficult not ordering French Toast. read more

Gotta say, I'm pretty frustrated by my experience today having been drawn here by a 4-star Yelp rating endorsing this diner. We were three for lunch, and the restaurant was not at all busy. While the food itself was great, waiting almost 15 minutes for the 3rd meal to be delivered AFTER the first two were dropped off made for a poor dining experience. (My food was almost gone by the time my sons food arrived.) Our service staff, while pleasant, seemed indifferent to any frustration about the excessive wait. When the check was dropped off, I thought they'd comped my sons lunch due to its late delivery. However, when checking with a server, I was told it was a mistake - they'd just given me the wrong check. No 'Oh, thanks for your honesty', just 'here's the right bill'. Pathetic. Too many amazing alternatives out there to ever consider visiting here again. ps - This review would have been avoided had a manager simply stopped by at any point and done a table touch. Yesterday was our first time trying BBD (Black Bear Diner). Let me tell you the service, the food, the environment, was exquisite! We came in party of 3. Got sat down immediately. Our waitress was amazing. She informed us about a few items that were here definite recommends, and she was spot on with her recommendation for the onion rings. Hadn't had any onion rings as good as theirs yet! Not that we all had different items, and we all were very satisfied. We will definitely be coming back. Oh, and is you are going to get any drinks and you are a lemonade drinker. Definitely give their huckleberry lemonade a try. You won't be disappointed. Won't say anything about pricing. Mine was good. My sons....not so much. He had ordered one of the burger plates, requesting no lettuce and no onions. Along with his burger, he asked for onion rings. His plate came with fries, along with the lettuce and onions on his burger. Our server, Jose was very friendly but never came back to check on how our food was until it was time to get the check. We live locally and we eat here fairly regularly. The staff are always friendly and efficient and the food is good. Up until recently my favorite thing on the menu was the Bear Claw with the berry filling. Now, I'm on a specific eating plan and they're sweet about accommodating when they can. My steak was a very nice & small size, but was lukewarm. The plate came with veggies that were deliciously cooked in butter & garlic. Yum! I ate half my food so I could try out the inviting pies. I requested Banana Cream pie, but of course they were out. I opted for chocolate cream, but could hardly do it justice. Our waitress was effective & competent, but not friendly or welcoming.
