We love this place for breakfast. Not so much for lunch or dinner (unless we order breakfast items). The food is good and the portions are big. Not so good... the pies, which is very disappointing. I mean, you walk in and the pies are right there in front of you and you say to yourself, "Ooh, I'ma get some To Go on the way out" (because you'll be too full with your meal). So you get 3 and can't wait to get home and eat them and it's a flop. I'm looking at you, Peach Cobbler, Banana Cream Pie, and Lava Cake! (The ice cream that came with the Lava Cake was good, though. Tip: Weekends are super-busy and the wait-time can be long; so get there early, or eat a little beforehand so you're not hangry and yelling at the staff (they're very nice). read more

One of the worst meals I have ever had. Eggs cold. Bacon cold and chewy. Coffee very bitter. Pancakes thick and over cooked. Toast drowned in butter. Bathroom smells like raw sewage. Waste of time and money. Save yourself go to awful (waffle) house instead. One star was too generous! read more

Good Home Cooking A shame we don't visit this restaurant more often. The food is always consistent and delicious. Our server Catherine made it that much more enjoyable. My tri-tip dip was very good along with the Bear's Choice breakfast my hubby had. Pancakes were tall and light, syrup was warm, bacon was absolutely delicious and eggs were cooked perfectly. I rather enjoy coming here for breakfast and it's my first choice to eat when I do go out for breakfast. Nonetheless, I see a strong Hispanic and Caucasian culture in the labor force, but never an African American. I do see African Americans as patrons but never as employees. The food is always great. I just wonder if this is an establishment that's friendly and welcoming to the African American community. My rating is not related to the service or the food but rather the image presented in the face of diversity. read more

The only reason they get a 1 star is because my food was delicious! We visited this location around noon on June 2nd. It was busy, we waited about 40 minutes for a table (not a big deal, usually when you wait it means the food and service is good.) We got seated and they brought us our drinks, when we started asking simple questions about the menu (how is your corned beef Cooked?) we got a very short "I don't know". She stood there waiting for us to order I guess? She didn't bother to say "I'm sorry I don't know. Let me ask!" How simple would that have been? We order burgers and fries, simple stuff. I asked for not lettuce on my burger. Burgers come out, mine has shredded lettuce piled all over the burger and the plate. The other burger has a piece of leaf lettuce. So this wouldn't have been an issue if I got a piece of leaf lettuce, but it's an issue when it's shredded lettuce and it's a lot! So I asked the lady (who wasn't our server) that I asked for no lettuce. She takes it and returns 30 seconds later WITH THE SAME BURGER, just scraped the lettuce off. I COULD HAVE DONE THAT MYSELF. No apology from this girl. Nothing. As I'm still picking lettuce off my plate and off my burger the server comes over and asks how everything is. Well, you clearly see lettuce all over the table because I was angry and put it all on the table. Do you think the server bothered to apologize? NOPE. You took my order. I watched you write down no lettuce. Either you messed up not ringing it in correctly or the cooks just made a mistake. THE LEAST YOU COULD HAVE DONE IS APOLOGIZE. So I emailed the customer tip line they have. Told them the location I visited and my name. I get an email 2 days later that says "can you tell me the location you visited?" What do you mean? All of that is in the email I sent. As well as the picture I took of lettuce all over my table. Also, spells my name incorrectly, which was in my email as well. In conclusion, my food was good even though I had to fix the problem myself. But the 1 star is for the service and professionalism of the restaurant and whoever took my complaint in the email. I even feel ashamed of myself for leaving a 0 dollar tip. Because I'm a firm believer in tipping my waiters and waitresses. I love giving extra tips when they do an amazing job. But this was a super disappointing visit. It's been 2 weeks and I have heard nothing from the restaurant. This is why I'm writing the review. All I wanted was an apology. But apparently customer service isn't their priority. read more

I went in on thanksgiving it was very busy, the food was stacked up to the window, the servers looked so overwhelmed that one of them was crying and the manager Eric didn't even help, all he did was yell and watch them. The whole experience was uncomfortable. I WILL NOT be back! read more

Terrible service. This place has really gone downhill of late. Our waitress never greeted us, smiled, nor ever stopped by to check on us. We had to wave down another worker to alert them our order was wrong and were missing items. The music was quite loud (this was around 3 pm so off-hours) and several employees were milling about laughing and carrying on. I e-mailed corporate regarding the poor service (well over 3 weeks ago) and never received any type of response. Unfortunately, although we typically have enjoyed their food we will not be returning. The wait time was typical for a weekend, 15+ minutes. I ordered the chicken club sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was great! But my boyfriend ordered steak eggs and hashbrown and his hashbrown was disgusting. The potato tasted stale. He let our waitress know that he was not happy with his hashbrown and wanted to get the country potatoes instead, she then brought a full sized plate of potatoes with maybe 10 pieces of veggies (we did not count them it was just ridiculously scarce). We've been to this location plenty of times in the past and it's been great, we just stopped going because of the ridiculous wait times. We had never been to Black Bear Diner before, but decided to eat here because there was no wait when we called to ask. When we arrived about 30 minutes later, the restaurant was humming with people, but they were still able to seat our party of seven right away. The food was great, and we must recommend the salmon or the mac and cheese with bacon. Valerie the manager was upbeat, enthusiastic, and very positive. I just walked into big Bear diner on Goodyear and waited at the front for about five minutes and staff never acknowledged me or my mother. They did not even offer us a seat or tell us that they'll be with us in a minute, so we decided to walk away and go somewhere else. I guess our money is not good enough here. read more

Have been eating here for 10 years now. So sad to say but I will never go back. Service was wonderful, no wait food was okay. I did notice my sausage was not hot or even warm so I started eating the side of hash browns and that's when I saw a hair in the food. It looked to have been facial hair as you could see the full length of the single hair and still attached was the sebum (white bulb looking substance). As soon as I saw it I looked across the table and my son noticed it at the same time immediately we were turned off and just wanted to leave. I know hair gets everywhere as I am a barber. I did not tell the server what I had discovered we simply just paid and left. I still left her a good tip but unfortunately I cannot come back to this establishment. Came here on a Wednesday at 1040 in the morning and it was pretty packed. It was just myself and that would've been a 15 minute wait so I opted to sit up at the bar seats. My order was taken and writhing 5 mins received my 3 links, hash brown, sunny side up eggs. The waitress was attentive and fast and welcoming. My Mothers Day Experience here was very disappointing. Our server was very uptight, unfriendly and not very customer oriented. I feel bad because my sisters and I talked it up to the rest of our large group, after our wonderful experience (because of our server) in Bullhead City, and it was a flop. Server was less than mediocre and food was still cold internally. My sisters and I have determined that this visit has pretty much determined Black Bear Diners existence for future dining options. Decided to try this place out as I've heard some good things about it. One big theme here was "waiting". Boy did we wait. We waited to sit, waited to be greeted at our table (class to 15 minutes) and take our drink order. By then we had our food selected so we ordered all at once. From there it took about 10 minutes for our waters to come. Then, after waiting over 20 minutes for any interaction whatsoever(not even a sorry for the wait, or your food should be out shortly), I ended up walking to the front desk to ask for any form of an update. The lady said she would check and let me know . We waited another 10 minutes or more and food started trickling in. As far as the food, my chicken and waffles were pretty good, I've had better but not too bad. The cinnamon roll French toast however, tasted like something I bought from the freezer section of the grocery store. Kids like the French toast and the waffles. We won't return however. read more

The food is pretty good here. I've only really ordered breakfast food so I can't speak to anything else. Their sugary or sweet breakfast food seems to me to be better than the other food. I had the chicken fried steak and it seemed like it was made with pancake batter. Their cinnamon roll French toast was excellent though and so was the spicy sausage patty. The service was something else though. Our server reminded me of the night shift waffle house server with the cigarette hanging out of her mouth while serving your food getting ash all over the place. She also had the attitude of the 70 year old 5th grade substitute teacher dragging kids by the ear to the principles office. And the ham and potatoes were good, (I don't eat eggs lol) but my fiancé does and he loved the food as well. It was great!
