We were seated right away. Took our sever, Robert, about 10 minutes to take our drink order. Then he took our food order. Ten minutes later he came back and asked if we were ready to place our order, again. He forgot he already taken our order. Took 25 minutes to get our food. Scrambled eggs were "cold". There was no warmth to them whatsoever. I ordered 2 biscuits and gravy and what you really get is 1 biscuit cut in half. Not even enough gravy to cover the biscuits. Hubby ordered pancakes. Got told after the fact if you want butter for your pancakes you have to ask for it. Since when should you have to ask for butter for pancakes???? Waiter never stopped by to check on us after food was delivered until he dropped off the bill. And the person at the register checking you out had absolutely no personality. No "how was your meal" or any other conversation. Not even a "thank you ". I realize they have not been open long but they did train for a bit before opening. Come on people, do better. We had high hopes but left without anything positive to say. So disappointed. read more

I was excited to try BB from what I had heard about it. Much to my chagrin, I was highly disappointed in what I experienced. It took forever to get our food. My friend had taken me there for my birthday. My omelet was rubbery and cold and my potatoes were black. Horrible disappointment. I expected more from what I had heard from people I know that had eaten there. They are from California, so maybe the food there is good, but not so here on Johnstown. I probably will not come back. Also no biscuits available at 11am is ridiculous. I know you are new to the area, but you need to get things better or you may be surprised when people don't come back. Sorry for a bad review. Decor is nice, service was ok portions were more than enough. However, on the negative side. Went for breakfast and was very disappointed. I had steak and eggs hashbrowns and toast. Good food, slow service high prices. Wait staff is friendly and efficient. The kitchen staff is the exact opposite as well as the hostess.

Living close by, this was my 8th trip here since opening. Being a frequent patron of the previous restaurant for 15 years, and seeing its slow decline ever since TA bought the place, the best description I have is, "You can put lipstick on a Pig, but it is still a Pig" no offense to pigs. All the issues that plagued the old restaurant leading to its demise, are still here. Lack of service, inconsistent food quality, really long wait times, both to get seated and getting your order, etc... It is sad to see, as this location puts a huge Black eye on the whole Black Bear chain. Based on the initial crowds, this place could be a gold mine. But it is rapidly loosing its appeal based on the number of people I see waiting. This morning had a 30 minute wait time, and they were only seating maybe half the restaurant. I was lucky to get a seat at the counter and my server Anne Marie? told me to hurry so she could get my order in before 2 large tables ordered, so didn't take too long today. This is close to my house and I keep trying to see if it improves, but no luck. All I hear is staffing issues, especially cooks, but I can drive 3 miles up the interstate to 2 other breakfast places, and they don't seem to have the same issues. On the plus side, my wallet and waistline are doing better as I don't go out to eat nearly as much these days since this used to be my go to place. read more

Grand opening was great. I went back for breakfast, which took 40 minutes from ordering. It would appear they corrected the long wait after ordering. My wife and I stop for breakfast as we drove by and there weren't many cars in the lot. When entering we saw many open table and we were informed that there would be a 20 minute wait for a table. We left and went to the breakfast club in Loveland. We have no plans in giving them another chance. read more

Our family has eaten at the Black Bear Diner in Johnstown several times since it has opened. Our waiter today, Robert, gave us excellent service and provided us with an all around great family experience. There was a small glitch in the food we ordered, but he made the best of the situation and still provided a positive atmosphere. We would really like to be served by him again!!! I wish I had better news about my experience here because I have eaten at their Reno location and loved it. Yesterday, 6/21 my dad and I arrived at 8:50a and got on the waitlist and told a 10-20 min wait which is fine. Got seated at 9:15. Server came to take our order at 9:40. 10:15 rolls around, server came to offer us soup or a pastry, which was a nice gesture but we declined. It was at that point she told us our seating person should have told us it was a 45 min to an hour wait to get food once order was in! This info should be relayed when cheking in to be seated!!! I cannot imagine having young children and having to wait that long for food. Our meals FINALLY arrived at 10:45! It took an hour and 5 minutes to get our food from the time our order was taken. Sadly, the food was not worth the wait. My dad's biscuits and gravy was barely warm, and my rye toast wasn't really toast, just limp bread soaked in butter. My 2 egg ham and cheese omelet was decent. I had such high hopes for this new location since my dad lives 10 minutes from it and its very convenient. I myself drove from Westminster, and my entire morning was shot, waiting for just a so-so meal. Never again. read more

First off I want to thank the manager and the staff. We had a party of 12 that was celebrating our Father, grandfather and great grandfather 89th Birthday. We had an event in Cheyenne and had planned to eat lunch on Sunday. No place had space!!. We all climbed in our cars and I called Black Bear Dinner in Johnstown (which is where my wife and I live). They said to come on down and they would have a space arranged for us. It was 40 minutes when we arrived. The manager greeted us at door and took us to private banquet room with tables all set up. IT WAS FABULOUS. Service was FANTASTIC. His great grandson (only 3years old) was able to run around and play with his great grandfather. We had a blast. Then to top it off the manager gave our Birthday Father and Mother 2 wonderful pies as a gift for his 89th Birthday. That folks is what Customer Service is all about. Well after working 14 hours In the lovely Colorado 104 degree heat. My family decided to eat at BB. We arrived at 5:40. We got told it would be a 15 min wait. At 6:24 we got seated. At 6:36 our drinks and order was placed. Drinks came promptly. Food arrived at 7:20. Two burgers. I ordered a western burger. I asked and read off of the menu. Does this come with mayo lettuce tomato onion pickles and thousand island? The waiter said no. Okay just bbq cheese and onion rings? Yes. Burger comes out after almost an hour. With lettuce tomato pickles onion mayo and thousand island bbq cheese onion ring. I sent it back. 30 mins go by. It's 7:50 my family finished dinner. I was waiting. I told him to remove my food from the ticket after I waited 2 hours and still haven't ate. He did. I go to leave he brings me the burger and says sorry. I pay leave tip and go home. I get home open the box. Burger was wrong again. No onion rings. Just bbq an cheese. So from 5:40 pm until 8:00 I drank a soda. Payed $47.90 to watch my family eat. In a dirty restaurant with loud kids screaming and throwing things. To get home after my 17 hour day. And the burger was still wrong. I will never go back. And will never recommend this place. Overpriced,short staffed, dirty restaurant,dirty restrooms, low to mid grade quality food. Let me start by saying this was not a good experience. First off I understand the wait times being a new restaurant. Only took 30 min to get a table. Once we got our table everything went south. 1.5 hours to get our food which was terrible. Cold mashed potatoes, no gravy on anything I ordered. Ordered Meat loaf, mash potatoes, corn corn bread, green beans. Well didn't get corn, green beans, corn bread, I got broccoli. Cold Broccoli. Which was not even part of my order. Apparently they were out of almost everything I ordered lol. Salad all we got was lettuce, we were told they were out of tomatoes and cucumbers. 5 min later salads for other tables were coming out with cucumbers and tomatoes lol. Waiter needs some definite training. The ambiance was great no issues there. Sad thing is we couldn't even think about desert. Granted they haven't been open long but having other Black bear diners in Colorado they should have been trained better. We will give it a second try but after 6 month. They can only get better from here. read more
