The service could not have been any better. The entire staff all made sure our visit was awesome. I tried a big breakfast. 3 eggs, 2 pancakes, sausage links, bacon and ham with potatoes. It was all I could do to finish the meal. We are going to try and get back here for dinner soon.. For you Southern Folks, they have Sweet Tea & its excellent. Prices are moderate. I'll admit it I walked in expecting something just one step above a diner chain. I couldn't have been more wrong. Black Bear Diner managed to feel welcoming instead of corporate. The food came out hot, the fries were perfectly crispy, and everything we ordered was satisfying comfort food done right. Then came the pies... and wow. Save room for dessert because they're worth every bite. The real standout, though, was the service. We arrived with a group of 25, and one waitress somehow kept everyone taken care of with a smile, refilled drinks before we had to ask, and never looked overwhelmed. I love this place so much! Every Black Bear Diner I've gone to is always so comforting to me. I don't know if it's the cozy cabin lounge style or the feel of back in the day easy-going breakfast grub, and with the sweet older folks there early morning just makes it more enjoyable (it's like having my grandparents there). The service is absolute welcoming all the time. I love it when places like this have the consistency of kindness. Call me lame but their newspaper theme of menu is my favorite. My go-to order is always homemade corned beef hash, ultimate fave at Black Bear. I do need to come here more often at later times because I have never ordered their lunch or dinner before. Of the two locations I do prefer the layout of this establishment over their other counterpart. (They have a cool gift section) The service was great, and accommodating. They were fairly busy and our server checked on us regularly. I ordered the bear's choice which comes with two pancakes, waffle, or two French toast, bacon, ham, or sausage, and two eggs made to order. I ordered two eggs over medium and I chose ham. It was an up charge, but I selected the cinnamon roll french toast and it was delicious. Highly recommend. The only negative I'd note is that the portions seemed smaller than the other locations I've tried. The eggs and ham were certainly smaller/less when I compared my photos of the same meal. Black Bear Diner is always a Reno favorite. We stopped for breakfast this morning and I will admit, it's been a while since we've gone out to breakfast and an even longer while since we've been to Black Bear. At any rate, breakfast was served hot and tasty. Our server, Teresa, was very helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic. She promptly took our beverage and breakfast order and kept our beverages filled. It wasn't very busy this morning so we got seated fairly easily. I had the two eggs over easy with waffle and their famous sausage patties. The waffle could've been a little crispier, because it was a little on the soft side. Teresa even served me extra syrup, which I appreciated and didn't need to ask for. The eggs were perfect and so was the sausage. The hubs had the chicken fried steak burrito from their special list. He always enjoys a good chicken fried steak in general, being from the Midwest, and his burrito did not disappoint. He said it was quite tasty and he would order it again. It's always rather noisy in the black bear, but that's OK because if you talk up a little bit, you can still have a good conversation. And we always seem to encounter friends when we eat there and today was no different. The Dennis Family was just leaving, as we were being served our breakfast, so we chatted for a bit before they left to begin their day. We had forgotten how much we enjoyed going out to breakfast, so we're going to start eating breakfast out at least once a week and Black Bear will be on our list of places to return and enjoy. read more

The service is always great and the interior and bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Certain food items are hit or miss. Such as the waffle, I was disappointed with my last visit. The waffle tasted more like a pancake. And I wish they had better coffee, so sadly I avoid it. Everyone works so hard to keep things clean and moving as quickly as possible. We've never had to wait for a table any longer than ten minutes and we've always had a great experience with the staff. Their parmesan crusted burger with cheddar cheese and a side of bacon is so good! I've been craving it lately along with biscuits and gravy. We are traveling from California stopped at diner and our waitress was Susan she is wonderful loved her warm way of welcoming us was great at helping us with what to order they have so many options that her input really helped. As we were leaving we see her running to us my husband had left her glasses and she was so kind to give them to us we truly appreciate it that. I used to love this place. Have even been to the original in Northern California. This was by far the worst meal I've had here. My fried chicken was overcooked on the outside and cold on the inside. We had brunch at the Black Bear Diner's South Virginia location. When we entered the restaurant, it became apparent they were busy because most of the tables were already occupied and a couple of parties were waiting to be seated. Our 5-person party waited by the enforce a few minutes before the host seated us at one of the round tables at the back of the restaurant but as soon as we were seated, we noted the staff were openly complaining to the manager about their new handheld devices because it was processing orders incorrectly. The new system caused so much strife, the restaurant was a bit chaotic; our server, Suez kept apologizing and verbally announcing each entry she made back to us. Thankfully when our meal arrived, all our orders were correct and we were able to dine in peace. The food tasted good, each person in our party enjoyed their entrees, and overall we had a decent dining experience, despite the turmoil. read more

It has been years since I dined in at a Black bear diner and let alone this specific location. I forgot how good their food is here! We used to frequent the Sparks location the times I did. I forgot about their pies! How cold I forget when their chocolate cream pie was a pregnancy craving of mine with my youngest kid?! While running errands, my kids wanted pancakes and we left the house super early to run errands I didn't get a chance to make any. We decided on Black bear because they serve breakfast all day long. I ordered the tuna melt with fries and kids had their sprinkle pancakes. I had to steal a bite! Oh my goodness they were so good. We had to take a pie home and sorry not sorry. Great service and food with fair prices! I have to give their staff kudos for finding my cell and keeping it safe until my smart watch notified me down the road that my phone was disconnected and we back tracked back to the diner.
