Good food and friendly wait staff. Food was on the expensive side for breakfast/ lunch. I still enjoyed it.

Came for breakfast at 9am on a Saturday and had NO WAIT. Instant mood boost. The inside has the bayou look and campy but cute. The menu has great pictures and easy to read with so many options. I just wanted Huckleberry. I started with the fried green tomatoes which were very yummy, crispy, and well seasoned. I got the Huckleberry hard tea, delicious, and Huckleberry waffles, with a side of eggs and bacon. My friend got the Louisiana omelette with pancakes. Overall, the food was well made, quick, and exactly what we expected. The service was friendly and our plates were removed and water refilled promptly. Overall, lovely place for early weekend breakfast. I'm sad I forgot to take more pictures because I ate it all pretty quickly haha read more

I go to Huckleberry in California all the time, so I already knew something was wrong the second my food touched the table and my plate felt like it just came out the MICROWAVE Waited 70 minutes for breakfast just to get cold pancakes, a cold skillet, and disappointment served fresh. At that point I wasn't sure if my food was delayed or being aged gracefully in the back. And it was a GARDEN SKILLET... there's no meat in it How do you mess up potatoes and vegetables? That's literally the easiest level on the breakfast menu. Service was wild too. Our waiter walked by and his body odor hit the table before he did. I'm talking about a scent with strong opinions and lasting power. Management had to know because there's no way that smell clocked in quietly. Then after all that waiting, they tried to heal the situation with donut holes and strawberry jam like we just survived a natural disaster Only reason this place is surviving is location. Breakfast on a Monday morning was surprisingly empty at 9am. I was a little worried considering the lack of customers but I was pleasantly surprised by the great meal we had. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. My daughter ordered stuffed French toast that was stuffed with a custard and chose a Huckleberry's puree for the topping. This was delicious. I had the chicken and waffles ( my first time) and we both enjoyed this as well. There were so many levels of flavors in each dish. The atmosphere brings up memories of NOLA, so much that we went through some old pictures and stories while we waited. We don't eat out often and only choose cuisine we don't cook at home. We are so happy we tried Huckleberry's and will be returning soon. read more

Stopped by for breakfast and the place was pretty empty. The decorations in the dining area are fun and a nice touch. Took a minute to be seated but the service overall was great. I got the chicken and waffles and a huckleberry lemonade. The lemonade was delicious, and the food was good but nothing to write home about. Nothing special or fancy, everything tasted the baseline of what you'd expect. I only wish the chicken came with a dipping sauce other than the ketchup at every table. My first thought walking in was that the entry had not been cleaned in several days. I mentioned it to the hostess and she said she would get right on it. It was still filthy when we left. The food was plentiful and tasty. I had the New Orleans and my husband had the shrimp PoBoy. Alyssa was our server. She was super busy but did a good job being attentive to everyone. My husband said the men's bathroom was filthy. He did bring this to the attention of the host. This is a reflection also on the customers. There's no excuse. My first time here. It wasn't busy at all and it took a long time to get our food. Luckily we were not in a hurry. I had the unlimited soup salad and garlic sourdough. The gumbo and chili were good. The garlic sourdough was disappointing. Not much flavor. The salad was ok. The blue cheese dressing was kinda blah. Vinaigrette was better. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. The batter was great & they looked awesome but the flavor was disappointing compared to homemade. But flavor is always subjective so my saying I was disappointed in flavors might not translate to a universal opinion. The California Benedict is served on a fried green tomato instead of a muffin. We ordered the onions in the potatoes to be WELL caramelized and the cook did a SPECTACULAR job of that. I would come again for these caramelized onions! We came here for breakfast one morning around 8am after dropping our car off at Big O Tires. It wasn't busy, but it took about 5 mins to be seated. I was just waiting at the counter for someone to acknowledge me. Once seated, our server was extremely kind and accommodating. We shared the Mississippi skillet. Definitely a good size portion to where it felt like a full meal for both of us. It was served with a blueberry muffin. The skillet was great. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant for breakfast. Or, specifically, the Mississippi skillet. I'm assuming all skillets would be the same. It was so overcooked and dried out that I added ketchup for moisture. I'm not a fan of ketchup on eggs (at all) but ate about a quarter of it because I paid good money for it. First, our server was excellent-prompt, pleasant, attentive. The food, however, was very poor! The fried green tomatoes were thickly breaded and deep fried, heavy, and you couldn't taste the tomatoes. Red potatoes were dry and overcooked- tasteless, my over easy eggs were coated in oil/butter- I used my napkin to soak some off. Lastly, English muffins were heavily buttered (or butter-like substance- 2 bites was all I could eat. We agreed we won't be back. Promptly seated, no lines, orders were taken, food arrived with in 6 minutes or so, it's rather quick, i'm surprised how fast the food came out. We ordered the Mississippi and New Orlean with huckleberry muffin, strawberry lemonade and huckleberry tea served in mason jar. The portion is decent, they could have used less starch (potatoes) in my opinion. It's heavy on potatoes. Oppose to ham, bacon, bell pepper, onion and mushroom, I feel they made the potatoes the star of the dish, instead of nice balanced portion. My friend plate the New Orleans, ( sausage. Shrimp, mushroom, ) contains more proteins than the potato. She enjoyed her dish then I did. The huckleberry muffin is warm and moist and delicious. For the food, I give it 3 stars rating, if they take it easy on the potatoes, and given me more protein ( bell peppers, mushroom, and ham) Over all service my waitress is pleasant and keeps checking on us. read more

My wife came here about a week ago with her mother and really loved the Southern Swirl French Toast she had. Finding ourselves in south Reno again today, she took me there for breakfast. Having lived in the South Eastern area of the United States for many years in northern Florida, I was very familiar with and fond of Cajun cuisine! I sided with the Cajun omelette this morning and asked for shrimp and extra Monterey Jack cheese to be added. They forgot both... but the omelette was quite tasty as served. Our server was very nice and was apologetic about the oversight. Not really his fault so I just rolled with it. The interior is decorated with southern style cracker house fixtures and old-time paraphernalia giving it a Louisianan feel. I would eat here again and most-likely will if I can pull myself away from Great Full Gardens every once in a while...! read more

I stopped by Huckleberry's for breakfast with a friend before work. From the look of the menu, I was expecting a true Southern-style breakfast and lunch spot -- plenty of dishes that sound like they came from the South. Unfortunately, that's where the Southern charm ended. The food tasted more like something made from a box or a can rather than from scratch. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and asked if they had hot links. What I received were tiny frozen-style sausage links -- the kind you'd find in a grocery store freezer section. When I asked again about hot links, it became clear that the staff didn't even know what I meant, so I just went with what I got. The biscuits and gravy were a disappointment. The biscuits didn't taste homemade or fresh -- they were bland, flat, and lacked any fluffiness. The gravy was thin, flavorless, and appeared to be sausage-flavored but without any actual sausage in it. I managed maybe three or four bites before I was done. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles and had a similar reaction -- edible, but very mediocre. To their credit, the service was excellent. The staff was friendly, quick, and attentive. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, and the place wasn't crowded but had a decent number of people dining in. The prices were okay, though for the quality of the food, even that felt debatable. Overall, while the service and atmosphere were pleasant, the food simply missed the mark. If you're looking for real Southern cooking, this isn't the place. We were seated quickly and our server was very prompt in taking our order. The silverware was dirty and we had to ask for another setup. Then we heard another table say "can we get new silverware. Ours is dirty". When the food arrives, the hash browns were overcooked for me and undercooked for my partner. My partner ordered eggs Benedict and discovered the English muffins were burned. After church, my friends and family visited Huckleberry's. Despite it being busy they sat us right away at a cozy table in the back. The restaurant has a Southern Bayou vibe that serves breakfast and lunch. Although we had to wait a half an hour for our food, it was worth the wait. I ordered the Hucks breakfast burrito. It was loaded with eggs, onions, peppers, bacon and hash browns with a salsa. I ordered my burrito with out cheese. It was filled with a lot of southern flavor and was very filling. I had been here once before a few years ago, but hadn't been back since. My husband had never been here, so we decided to come for breakfast. We were there around 7:30 a.m. and although they had been opened for half an hour, we were the only ones at the restaurant the entire time. The restaurant itself has Bayou-inspired decor and even music that adds a nice touch, but the service and food just kind of fell flat for us. I had the "French Quarter" French Toast and my husband had the Cajun Benedict. My French Toast was made with really thin bread and so it was on the dry side. I had not had French Toast in a long time and was making an exception today. What a disappointment! My husband said his plate was also just o.k. We were also still working on our food and our server makes the comment "Oh, you ate so fast". What? What kind of a comment was that!! So all I can say is I really doubt that I will ever come back here, with so many other choices to have an excellent breakfast. Actually, I do have to add that it is also too pricey. read more

Huckleberry's has quickly become one of our favorite breakfast spots. Honestly, there hasn't been a single thing we've tried that didn't hit the spot--everything from the food to the customer service has been consistently great. The only things that can be a little hit or miss are the chicken (sometimes it comes out a bit stale) and the wait times on weekends--but that just shows how popular the place is! Overall, it's a wonderful spot for breakfast, and we always leave happy. read more

If you have ever ate in New Orleans... Stay away from Huckleberry. Beignets were like pancake batter. Firs plate and coffee was cold. Service by our server was bad. Wow! They were glad to greet me! I don't think I've ever been greeted so loudly. It wasn't super busy at 1pm, and I was seated immediately. The menu is mostly breakfast. I did find a burger on the back. Staff is very friendly, and they make a point to tell you to ask for drink refills, and the picture explains why. Drinks are served in child size glasses! Even iced tea. Makes no sense. For iced tea you are supposed to fill the glass with ice, then pour the tea over it. The melting ice mixes with the tea for great flavor. Generally speaking, if you order iced tea you get a big glass to accommodate this culinary action. They were quick to refill my glass with more tea, but yuck yuck, there was no ice left in glass to melt. The burger and fries were ok. I might come back to try breakfast, hopefully the coffee cups are adult size! Ps. Remind the kitchen, that guests can hear you! First and most urgent: the men's bathroom needs a proper P-trap. The sewer smell coming up is overpowering and honestly unacceptable in a place serving food. Second, the service pace and energy need serious improvement. I waited about 30 minutes for a chicken and waffle while the restaurant was nearly empty. There was only one to-go order placed the entire time, so there's really no excuse for that kind of delay. Staff could use better training or management to move with more urgency and awareness. Lastly, the food itself was just okay. The "swamp juice" wasn't mixed well at all, and the chicken and waffle had noticeable inconsistencies, which made it feel rushed or poorly executed despite the long wait. This place has potential, but basic sanitation, service efficiency, and consistency all need attention before I'd consider coming back read more

Beignets drew me in here! LOL! But you know... they were identical to an Ebelskiver. Either way, I loved it without the fruit pie filling and custard. It made it way too sweet to where I didn't want to eat it. So I just ate thee parts that didn't have the fruit and custard on it. I also got an iced mocha which was a bit on the sweet side too but still good. What was really impressive and I really enjoyed was the hand-breaded chicken tenders! They were perfect! I've had Huckleberry's on my list for a while but it's all the way across town from where we live. We tried going somewhere else for Sunday brunch and it was packed, so this was our next try and we were seated without a wait! I had no idea this was a Cajun-style breakfast restaurant. I love Cajun food, so this was a pleasant surprise! The beignets looked good but we weren't hungry enough to try them this time. I got a pumpkin spice latte and it was pretty sweet but had great flavor. The whipped cream was thick and didn't melt the whole time I drank it which was kind of nice, I got a bit with each sip. I got the crab cake benedict and was very pleased! Great crab flavor without being overly fishy. The avocado on top was a nice addition. The hashbrowns were crispy. Portion sizes were large which made the slightly higher price worth it. My husband got the country fried steak, he thought the large portion was the best part and flavors were fine. Nothing was spectacular but he was still satisfied. We got our daughter a meal from the kids menu and it was a huge portion, more like an adult dish for only $7.99! Not giving 5 stars because of the service; food came out fast but we waited a long time for someone to take our drink order and for someone to help us pay. After sitting there waiting for a while, we saw people going up to the counter to pay. We eventually did that too but nobody told us you are supposed to pay at the counter; if that's how they want people to do things, they should tell them. Delicious Food, Room for Service Improvement. My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at Huckleberrys despite a few service hiccups. The menu was incredibly vast and detailed offering something for every palate. The food was absolutely delicious and exceeded our expectations. Our visit coincided with the tail end of breakfast rush, with the restaurant being moderately packed. Our waitress only stopped by our table three times to take our initial order deliver our food and refill our drinks. After that we had to flag her down for refills and the check. Despite the service we still had a great time and would highly recommend Huckleberrys to friends and family. We'll definitely be back. read more

Service was great, food was good however your restaurant is filthy. The women's restroom trash was over flowing at 9:30 in the morning. The stall walls are grimy. The entry way floors have built up dirt and grime from weeks of not being cleaned properly. Please get a deep clean completed and regular service of the restrooms. read more

Very lovely staff. Every person from the moment of walking in was very present. The ambience is definitely only what I can describe as upper class golfer. In both terms of decoration and patron. The food is the star of the show though, every picture looked amazing and everything we ordered looked as of it was taken directly out of the menu. The waffles were airy and fluffy, the chicken crunchy and moist. I'll definitely have to go back and try some of the other fruit items. First time here. I like that it is in South Reno because we have few restaurants on this side of the city. The place was quite crowded when we went in at 11am. They serve breakfast and lunch with a Southern style. Coffee and Ice Tea was good and I had the tea with a splash of pink lemonade. We ordered breakfast omelets with the huckleberry muffins. Food was fairly good. **Here are the reasons for 3 stars instead of 5: 1. Music was too loud so it was hard to relax or talk to your partner. 2. It seemed the muffins were baked with blueberries instead of huckleberries. I know the difference as I pick huckleberries on my sisters ranch in California. The berries were round. Muffins were still good but customers want to know exactly what they are eating. 3. Omelets were over-cooked. Not easy to tell since they were covered but the taste told the story. **The Good: 1. The server was quite good. She took time to explain the menu, she was moving around faster than light, and she did not hover over us. 2. The server got us more coffee and tea without us asking. 3. The Host was polite and helpful. 4. Food came fast and we were seated promptly. We will give them another try, just not too often since the food is heavy in calories. We came here for late breakfast on a Friday. We were seated promptly. Jennifer was our server. She was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the Mississippi scramble with the huckleberry muffin. It had egg, red potatoes, bell pepper, onion, bacon, sausage, ham... mixed the mushroom...so much food! I got through a quarter of it and took the rest home. The muffin was warm and fresh. Been waiting for the manager to call me back but they have yet to do so. It has been three days at the time of this review. We bought 6 to-go orders for a family lunch. Upon getting home, we realized that 3 of the 6 orders were missing. When we talked to the restaurant, they mentioned it was a mistake on their part because the ticket wasn't on the bag. Finally picked up the second half of our order, was given three free donuts (?) as compensation. When we got home, the food was already long cold, fries were soggy, and there were missing parts to our order. I called the establishment to notify them and was supposed to get a call back to discuss the situation. Not acceptable. Won't be coming back. read more
