Pass this place up. We used to stop here all the time but no longer. We arrived at around 5:00 pm. Waited 15 minutes for someone to take order. Did get water. Food was terrible. Always loving Mel's. For me, Reno/Verdi location is my favorite. Bigger place with 2 or 3 times the memorabilia than any other. You walk out of this Mel's and it lands you DIRECTLY in front of Boomtown's William Hill sports book, inside the Boomtown Hotel Casino. Yeah man, my favorite Mel's. I was just interrupted from writing this review as a waiter requested all guest sing happy birthday to someone. A 1st for us at Mel's. I get down with Mel's breakfast. Denver, Mel's potatoes, sourdough, and DC. You've got the proper condiments, and a sweet selection of jams. Tonight, we ate elsewhere but came here for a banana split. $9.99 got us a giant one. Boomtown has always been a stomping ground when heading to Reno/Tahoe to visit family. We stopped in Mel's for a quick lunch as we had dinner reservations at 7 for the rib cook off in Sparks. It wasn't busy yet had to wait approximately 10 minutes to be seated because "the server was playing catch up." It took another 15 minutes to get a drink order which was taken by a manager then another few for our server to come for food order. We ordered the sampler which came with a lot of yummy fries, 2 chicken wings which were cold and small, 3 tenders which had no taste with a thick coating of batter, cheese sticks that lacked any warmth at all without a melt and onion rings. The ambiance of Mel's is old time 50's with cute art and photos. Our experience was a little disappointing but most likely will pay another visit. read more

Place was close to our RV campsite so it was a short drive. Really cool and neat actor photos there. Went for breakfast. Stood there for longer than 15 minutes without even being acknowledged by anyone even with staff walking around clearing tables. Finally a guy came over and seated the 3 people ahead of us that had waited longer than we had. Eventually he acknowledged we were there and sat us right in front of a service door when there were other open tables & open booths. He wasn't friendly at all. We asked our server and she moved us. She was nice. The girl clearing all the tables, and there were many uncleaned tables, clinked all the dishes so hard into the bucket, we couldn't even hear ourselves talk when she was even 2 table away. She was clearing so loudly not caring she was. Mimosa's & their OJ was good. We got an eggs benny & CA benny. They were good. My wife ordered their "famous" potatoes but they came out cold. We were too hungry and waited too long to send them back. The guy was the same unfriendly when we went to the counter to pay. Our 2nd visit, we ordered reubens from them to go. The onion rings were the best! But, the reuben was a center of so much thick fat with 2 little pieces of overly thick meat on each side of it, that you couldn't even pull the meat off from the fat to eat it. Threw them away after taking pictures to complain about it. We give kudos to the mgr. When we called to complain the next day, the mgr. knew exactly what the issue was after we described the fat down the center of each meat slice (how the meat was not cut the right way) and made it up to us. Our visit was around 6pm July 5, 2926. int 80 past Truckee was a mess and after long drive from Utah we decided to stop short of the mess and checked into the Best Western for the night. We drive by Boomtown often and thought we would check it out. After checking in we walked over to Mel's for dinner. The hostess immediately sat us down at a booth. We then proceeded to wait 10 to 15 minutes and no one greets us at the table. We then move and sit at counter hoping this would get us help from a waiter or waitress. Again, no hellos or we will be right with you after another period of time. We left and had dinner at the Verdi Grillhouse next door where we had great service the moment we walked in. Love the veggie burgers, although they're kind of small for the price! The service has always been friendly and efficient, and the ambiance gives you that feeling of old school cool with the mini jukeboxes on each table. The location is one of my favorite parts about this diner, being so close to Verdi. It's great to be able to hang out in the casino, gamble, take a break to eat, and then head back in, where they also sometimes have live music. It's especially great when you win enough money to go out and eat. What a great treat! read more

Conveniently located within Boomtown and attached to the casino and right outside of the family fun center, this was an ideal dinner location spot for us at the end of a long day and wanting a quick bite to eat. It wasn't very busy on a Wednesday night so we were seated into a booth right away. They have a kids menu, which I used to order a plate of their spaghetti as well as a plate of mac and cheese. The spaghetti comes with a side of buttery texas toast and I got the mac and cheese with some fries. Both dishes also came out with a mini pack of oreos. Not the healthiest meal by any stretch but my kids loved it. The fries were a bit undercooked though and the spaghetti a bit oversalted. I got a cheese quesadilla for myself which was nice and gooey and came with an amazing cheese pull for effect. Paired with a side of sour cream and gauc, it was a simple dish, but delicious. My husband got one of their chicken burgers and was underwhelmed with the dish. He had also gotten a side of potato salad which was served in a tiny dish with the potatoes also being undercooked. I was traveling to Reno and stopped in here for breakfast. I was seated promptly and a very friendly server came over and took my order of bacon eggs hashbrowns toast and coffee. The food hit the spot, and they made sure I had timely refills of water and coffee. It was what I was hoping for I a breakfast stop. I could not be more pleased. We ordered room service thinking this was an amazing offer to our vacation stay, boy were we wrong. The food was luke warm, steak overcooked, bread burnt, the notes were not honored until we called to ask for the butter I stated in two notes, took ten minutes to bring up butter. We paid good money for what should of been a 20 dollar breakfast at best. OK, I've been here a few times. On their best day I would say it's pretty average. Always seems a little bit dirty in the restaurant. When I was there, there were many tables that were empty that had not been bussed. It was midnight and it wasn't crowded. A friend and I just ran out for a late grilled cheese. And they couldn't even get that right. Period it was burnt and the cheese wasn't melted. Pretty pathetic if you can't make a decent grilled cheese. read more

I've had the French toast and breakfast burrito there and both are delicious. Highly recommend for breakfast. Ive had lunch here once and got the sampler plate and it just tasted like overcooked frozen food. Also ordered a milkshake which just tasted like half melted ice cream. Didn't taste like there was any milk, which is what helps make it into a shake. So lunch there was a disappointment for me. Breakfast only from here on out. Staff has always been very friendly and attentive. And the place has a genuine American diner feel to it. This is our breakfast spot on our way home from Reno every time!! I usually get the blue burger which comes with onion straws and blue cheese crumbles with a side of buffalo sauce. Always yummy! Inside the Boomtown Casino, there's not many dining choices. The steakhouse is only open Wednesday-Saturday. So on a Tuesday evening, it was the "deli" or Mel's. Mel's menu was more varied, so we ordered off their menu. I went with the jalapeño burger, fries and a side salad. My wife went with a grilled Santa Fe chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were surprisingly large, both sandwiches slightly overcooked. My burger bordered on well done. Nothing remotely pink. The fries were good and the side salad was standard fare with lettuce, cabbage, a cherry tomato and a few slices of cucumber. My disappointment comes from an order taker who didn't know which sandwiches were grilled or fried. And a kitchen who doesn't provide salt & pepper in "to go" orders. After roughly checking in 1x/month, and Yelp calling me a regular at this place. I think it's finally time I write a review. I have been told by multiple people that Boomtown Mel's compared to the one downtown, is the better one of the two. I have never been to another Mel's besides this one. Everything we have ordered has been good and we always walk out with leftovers if we didn't devour it already. We have dining credit monthly from the casino and this is the place we choose to spend it at since it's 24hrs and the food has been consistent. This place serves diner food, nothing amazing or mind blowing but if you're hungry, nearby at the oddest hours, this place will hit that spot. Service has always been consistently attentive. I love Mel's and eat there frequently. The service was excellent but the food was terrible. At the boom town Mels. Not exaggerating - literally the worst breakfast of my life. I ordered the SAN francisco scramble but this wasn't prepared like the menu or any i have had before. It tasted like. Chorizo and spaghetti sauce seasoning on the ground beef . I asked if they could remake it like the menu and the waitress said there were sone translation issues and she would try again . One bite of the remade and i was done. Will never go to that Mel's again and it will be a while before i can get that taste out of my head. read more

We went to get a Lottery ticket, so on the way we stopped at Boomtown Mel's Diner on Tuesday, June 28th at 2:00 pm. We expected the standard diner fare, but OMG, you should see this huge menu! Everything from appetizers to full steak dinners, and everything in between. The menu prices are very reasonable also.. I ordered the delicious Mel's chili burger, and my wife ordered the steak and shrimp . My plan was to take a picture of my chlil burger, but it was so good that I had eaten HALF of it before I remembered! The steak and shrimp were so good, as were the salads included with the meals.The restaurant is bright and clean with just the right level of music and ambient sounds. Melony, our waitress, was the absolute BEST, attentive and so personable. She really made our experience excellent and ensure that we will return, and soon. read more

First you need to walk through a smoke filled casino to get to the restaurant. Initial service was quick and helpful, food came relatively quickly. Burger was done medium rare as requested. Garlic fries were tasty but only warm. After the food arrived the waiter disappeared and I had to go looking for him to get more water. Check arrived on time. We were staying at the campground. Hands down best breakfast place around here. I had the SanFrancisco omelette... with potatoes, AMAZING!!! . It was sooo good, it reminded me of my fathers omelette.... So good! We all had breakfast and everyone was happy & full. They give you so much food but it's soo delicious you end up eating everything on the plate. So bring your appetite. Our server was Felix.... Wow!
