We were there for early breakfast and found Mimi's Cafe beautiful setting. Settled in Kietzke Lane, the place itself is beautiful and i find their interior that of an impeccable taste. Maria was this calm lady that took our order. She was graceful and soft spoken, the kind you'd want as a host of your little party. She checked on us a lot just how a good hostess could be. Our food came about 15 minutes later and it was just as comforting we thought it would. I ordered the Dubai Chocolate Pancakes. It was a normal pancake but soft and beautifully presented. I also had medium eggs and ham on the side. I truly enjoyed the experience. My husband had French toast. We had an enjoyable time on our usual slow Sunday morning. And i can't end this without mentioning Maria sending us a little token of appreciation. She gave us free muffins on our way out. They have a really good menu with a three course dinner meal. The breakfast include an option for a toast or a muffin. Pick the muffin and ask for the seasonal muffin. At the time that I was there, the muffin was Dubai chocolate and it was delicious. Breakfast are so large that you should probably split them. Skip the eggs and go for the eggs only and get the super monstrous pancakes or waffles platter with the eggs, side, order of meat and hashbrowns. When I go to a new restaurant for breakfast I usually order huevos rancheros. Although the picture it doesn't do it justice, this was the best huevos rancheros that I have ever had. The corn tortilla was crispy, the avocados which you can't see in the photo were plentiful, the eggs were perfect. First time at Mimi's after a poor experience at another local breakfast place in Reno that I've been frequenting for the past 4 years. ( I won't mention the place...I have been loyal to them for years) I brought a $100.00 bill to pay for my meal and give a tip...I always tip great...I wanted to show the staff that I appreciate them, there must have been a change there and it wasn't good. ......so......I Thought I'd try Mimi's Cafe.....Boy! am I glad I did!! I have a new favorite! I was seated quickly, the waiter was super friendly and attended to my dietary restrictions. Very clean and pleasant atmosphere with upbeat music. Not gonna lie...I'm glad the other place drooped the service and quality ball....I found a calm and peaceful place to have a comforting meal with staff that genuinely care! This is my new go-to breakfast/lunch spot!! The waiter checked on me frequently, he to provided a perfect experience! The wings and shrimp were cooked to perfection and to my dietary needs. We made reservations earlier in the week for a Mother's Day brunch for five. We understand it's a busy day and don't expect top-notch service on a day like this, however the service was very disappointing and the food was not good at all. We ended up waiting an hour past our reservation time to be seated and that was clearly the case for the majority of the customers. Several parties left rather than wait for their table. I think they were mixing the reservations in with walk in customers. The server was nice and did his best to keep our meal moving. We ordered off the special brunch menu and the food was mediocre at best. Serving sizes were much smaller than I would expect for the meal prices and my son went home and ate more food. Great spot for breakfast. We stopped on the spur of the moment and wanted eggs benedict. However, as you get older, an order of eggs benedict is a lot of food. They were glad to split the order without an extra charge. Mimi's has a choice of breakfast to dinner options. I would not call it gourmet, but the food is pretty good. Came in yesterday around 2:30ish I believe and we got seated pretty quickly and also got a cup of water and soda pretty quickly as well. Me and my husband have never been to a Mimi's before so this day was our first . Let me tell you it took what felt like forever to get our food, we where getting a little impatient but we started to notice our waiter bouncing back and forth to each side of the restaurant.plus we notice that the hostess was helping as well. A few people did walk out and where not happy and I understand why it was a really long wait . But as we finally got our food our waiter thanked us for being patient and staying and not leaving. He explained the reason they where taking so long is because he was the only waiter on shift and 2 other waiters called out. The food was ok nothing crazy but the only reason I am giving this place a 5 star is because of the staff that day especially our waiter. He handled his situation well . On the outside it is a fancy looking restaurant, and they do seem to have an extensive menu. I ordered the hamburger on sourdough and it was great. I came here to celebrate my grandma's birthday as she chose the place. The exterior was a bit rough with horribly damaged walls and faded paint. Not the most inviting looking from the outside. Thankfully the inside looked much better with a heavily wooden texture of the tables and most of the chairs and booths. The inside was very well organized and everything was kept nice and clean. Before I rate the food I want to give our waiter, Miguel, huge compliments. He was amazing, very friendly, and was very professional! Once he heard that I had to leave early because of work he immediately gave me a menu and took my order. He then made sure that I got my food quickly! He was amazing and deserves huge props for his work! I ordered the Bacon Ham and Sausage omelette and the omelette itself was pretty good, well cooked and pretty tasty. I was very disappointed in the toast as it was burnt, very flaky, and not good. We chose Mimi's because we have always had good food here. Today I was extremely disappointed with what I ordered. There was only 1 other table occupied in the dining room where we were seated so we were very happy thinking this was going to be a great experience. NOT! My husband ordered the Breakfast Crepes, served with roasted potatoes, and they were delicious. I ordered the Eggs Benedict served with roasted potatoes. When our order arrived I was so excited to open my poached egg and have the yellow run down the ham and English muffin. This did not happen as the egg was over cooked. I told our server about it when she came back to the table after we had been eating for a bit. She asked if it was over cooked, and I said well, I thought eggs Benedict had runny yellows in the poached eggs. She told us their chef was out for the day and someone else was cooking. I don't really eat much for breakfast so I wouldn't have wanted a replacement. I ended up eating the ham and some of the muffin. Our bill for two breakfast entrees and 1 coffee with tip was $45. I have not eaten here in awhile so I was pleasantly surprised that my women's group was meeting here. There was 23 ladies in our group so we were in the back room. We had one waiter and she was wonderful but she was not wearing a name badge so I could not list her name here. She was fast and efficient and this restaurant is lucky to have her. She did everything herself except cook the food. I was amazed. And kudos to the cooks who got the food out in a timely manner. The only reason I am giving this cafe 3 stars is because the food was not that great. My eggs were over-cooked, I got the wrong muffin but that was okay except it was totally dry. I love getting muffins when I come here and that was the main reason I decided I was going back again. I do understand the bran and carrot look a lot alike but mine was also much smaller than the other one's that were served. Mine barely was above the paper cup while others in my group got really big muffins. I looked around and saw some nice plates come out like the crepes, I think I will be back for those. I was surprised the small meal I got was running the same price as the fancy meals and there was no comparison. Also, I did not like the taste of the coffee as it had a burnt taste so I switched to decaf but it was not any better. I'll be back and try another day. But over-all I was very impressed with the good service well worth the 25% tip. It seemed most in our group were pleased so next time I get a meal dry and over-cooked, I will send it back. read more
