First time coming here and probably my last. I called ahead and asked what soups they had and was told tortilla or chicken noodle. I ordered the chicken noodle soup with my burger online, waited the 20 minutes they gave me, and then came to pick it up. When I got there, the lady at the register said, "A burger?" I said, "Yeah, and a soup?" She looked confused and then told me they were out of chicken noodle and only had tortilla. I told her I didn't want tortilla because I specifically ordered chicken noodle. She repeated that they were out, so I stayed quiet for a second to see what solution they would offer. Another employee suggested fries, onion rings, or another side, so I said onion rings. When I realized I was going to have to wait even longer for them, I said never mind and asked if I could get a slice of pie instead. I ordered online specifically so I WOULDN'T have to sit there waiting. Then I was told I would have to pay the difference for the pie because it was around $7 and my item was supposedly around $4. I had to remind her that I ordered a bowl of soup for $7.99, so there really wasn't a difference to pay. While all of this was happening, another lady came out with the onion rings. I explained that I had already said I didn't want them anymore because I didn't want to wait and had chosen the pie instead. She then walked over to the other employee and made a comment about me not wanting to wait. That was what really bothered me. I did not appreciate the tone or attitude at all. I understand running out of something--it happens. But I provided my phone number and email when I ordered, and nobody contacted me to say they were out. A simple call could have avoided the frustration on both ends. It's honestly disappointing because I've always wanted to try this place, and for my first experience, on a slow night, this was terrible customer service. I live about 5 minutes away, but after this experience, I'd rather drive an hour into town to get food than come back. And I'm MISSING THE CORN BREAD ALLL THIS ATTITUDE WITH TERRIBLE SERVICR

This was what we still had to pay, even though my husband did not get anymore fish.

This place was good when they first opened, but the last 2 times we have been there between the service and the food they have sucked. Tonight my husband ordered their all you can eat fish, but when he asked for more he was told there was mi more fish, and the server just walked away. I ordered the bear choice and was not told that the protein I ordered was a up charge. I just ordered off the picture on the placemat, I never opened the menu, if something is a up charge the waitress should tell you. I also was charged 3.99 for 2 pieces of toast. This place has gotten so bad that I will not be going back. I spoke to the lady that checked us out and she gave me an attitude and didn't seem to care. I guess you can say the ambiance sucked, nobody cared about anything.

First off, didn't know Black Bear Diner originated up in Mt. Shasta...secondly, great breakfast. Heading back to Los Angeles, and staging for my next load out to Kentucky / Ft Wayne Indiana. Craved some solid American Breakfast and this joint delivered. You meet some interesting folk in places like this. Italian guy sitting next to me was from Staten Island, served in the Marine Corps, lived all over Europe. Was somewhat of a former Chief down in Bronx Precinct and just has all these stories about Trump, family members with super bowl rings, and decided to operate Semi-Trucks in his retirement. That awesome baby boomer American dream--- lawyers in the family, doctors in the family, kids doing really good..... Back to reality, not for millennials, nope. We ain't got any pensions. And with all that's going on in San Jose, any moment now, the engineers up in XAI and Tesla will probably replace my a** with Tesla Semis and AI agents......... so ya....enjoy good food before corporate America liquidates its labor force for ChatGPT...and then no more dining out! And now back to the present: Having ordered "The Grizz, fresh squeezed orange juice and a coffee" I am now content on continuing my trip back to LA. Great stop in between Phoenix and Indio CA. Service Excellent, space clean Need to visit the original diners up in Mt Shasta and Redding some time. Will be back, until next time!

    Worst service ever.

Complete fail! No staff. The rude cook was also the waiter. Just sat there 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged. Longer for coffee. Skipped over and edited while the cook/waiter chatted w friend. Absolute disaster of an experience at the back water hell hole.

    New York Steak & Eggs*
    Melik K.

I ordered the NY steak and, as someone trying to eat as healthy as possible while keeping protein high, I requested scrambled eggs instead of the usual two sides. Even though this option wasn't listed on the menu, they gladly accommodated my request. That kind of flexibility really elevates the experience--it makes you feel like your preferences matter and your meal is being made just for you. The only downside was the lack of staff presence at the register and around the dining area. It was difficult to find someone if you wanted to place an order or ask a question. This might have been due to being short-staffed or simply busy, but more attentiveness and eye contact from the staff--even if it's not their assigned table--would go a long way in improving the overall service.

Update 10/25/2025 Food is still good! Just an observation when we went in for breakfast this morning. We were sat in a booth next to the windows. The window sills and the top backs of the booths need a good dusting. Other than that, great atmosphere. Good service and good food!

My first visit to this Black Bear location. Clean and newer inside. No wait like the other locations. Probably since this is at a TA truck stop. I need to stop back and try breakfast. Service is on point, friendly. Not far from Buckeye. 12 miles

I had the dry Irish stout and it was outstanding. The host thoughtfully asked if I preferred a high top or a low top table before seating my party. Very thoughtful. Our server was Vanessa. I know what it's like to have good people. Vanessa is exceptional. The food was great. We got a couple of burgers. Tasty. I had the onion rings with mine -- a very generous portion and also tasty. Music volume was at a tasteful level. It was present but didn't get in the way of conversations. Much appreciated.

One friend got the biria dip- half portion with cheese curds, the other friend got holy yum burger with cheese curds. I got the thai chicken sando with sweet potato waffle fries. Chicken was suitably spiced and tender. Pickled onions were delicious paired with the carrots and sauce. Ooo n the waffle fries- crispy and delicious. It stayed crispy for very long too. And cane with hot fudge and vanilla glaze on the side!! And to top it off, the sunset trivia!!! It was fun!! We love this! Unfortunately, since we are from out of town. A friend and I visited this restaurant on 06/22/2026 at 9:00am for breakfast. The dining area was not busy with just 3-4 tables occupied and a few people at the barstools. I was seated quickly by a hostess and given two menus while waiting for my friend to arrive. Menu: it's about the size of a Sears Catalog (exaggeration but about 8+ pages front and back) and appears to serve food approved by the United Nations (food from different parts of the world). This is the type of menu Gordon Ramsey would go crazy over and shred to pieces. Portions are not larger than before but prices increased considerably! Food: I ordered a Veggie Omelette with Spinach added and Whole Wheat Toast, decaf coffee, and water. My friend ordered an all-meat skillet, sourdough toast, coffee, and water. The omelette/skillet was overcooked and dry. My friend sent back his toast because it was served with a MOLD SPOT on it. Our server was not swayed by the mold and replaced it. No apologies or contact from the managers. By this point, we just didn't want to finish what we ordered and left. Dining room is well lit and spacious. Lots of available seating but could not help that their "Grand Opening" sign has been hanging outside for WEEKS. Servers are slow and never seem to be pleasant (more melancholy). Overheard one server speaking with some guests at a table using profanity. This review was based on my individual experience. This used to be our favorite breakfast spot but clearly is no longer the case. Having watched the gradual decline in quality and service, I am no longer inspired to spend my money at AZ Diner.
