I found this place quite by accident. I was at the Hartford airport when my connection was cancelled...I was there too early to check my bag. I was told about this as an option to wait until I could check in. They have a full bar with several regional craft beers on tap and a small but solid liquor selection. The bartender was friendly and the other patrons at the bar were awesome. We were all there due to the same flight cancellation and made fast friends over a frosty beverage. I also tried out the kitchen, I had fish n chips but substituted onion rings for fries. The onion rings were battered style and the onion was thick cut which is a must for me. It all comes out on a metal tray similar to how food is served at Bears BBQ. The fish was standard fried cod. My only complaint is that I could have had three instead of two pieces of fish. The tartar sauce was also spot on. If I'm ever delayed again, I'll be back! read more

My BDL life is forever changed. I tend to take later flights, and when the inevitable plane delay happens, I thought I was stuck, killing time inside the terminal way after all the bar/restaurants closed at 7pm. Never fear! If you go back out to security (simple!), you'll find Cask & Barrel, which is open until 11pm! Joann is a great bartender - just the right amount of chatty, genuine, and generous. The beers are also solid, including 6 beers on draft and a good selection of cans and bottles. You'll definitely find something to drink. Can't speak for the food yet, but something tells me I'll find myself here again. read more

As a smoker this place is getting a start based on the fact that I tend to get to the airport way to early and this is the only place to get a beer without going through security. I suppose it's also good if you have friends and family who are also flying in to the same airport but on different flights so you can pick up your luggage and have a place to drink while you wait for the rest of them. Beer selection is decent, some craft options in addition to the standard bud/miller/coors if that's your thing. Food menu is not all that extensive, mostly your normal bar standards. The place is probably the smallest place in the airport that has both food and beer, but usually it doesn't get very busy from what I've seen. I don't know if they changed their hours, but I do know that they were not open when I was flying out back in August while Black Bear just on other side of security was. Losing a start for making me go through security for a preflight beer. read more

Are you seriously asking $7 for a Yuengling draft???? That is highway robbery. Split an order of chicken fingers and 2 beers each and bill was $38. Ridiculous. Chalked up to airport pricing. Anywhere else would be much less. Come thru this airport quite a bit and will go to Sheraton next door next time. read more

Went through cask and barrel Sunday and had lunch. The awesome bar tender had great attitude and charisma. I had excellent service by her.

What a surprise at an airport. I had a chicken parm sandwich; delicious. The chef, Benson, later brought out a small cup of the chicken salad for me to sample. It was amazing. The next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely be stopping by again. read more

What a gem!!! Dropped our son off for a flight and wanted a little bite to eat. Security recommended this little storefront area and what a surprise. Great service, food and the beer choices were great and $7 flights were the best. Wish I flew out of BDL more often. We will be back next month on our way to Florida and can't wait to go back to Cask & Barrel. Our bartender was great. read more

Great little find outside of security. Was staying at Sheraton at the airport and not enthused about eating in hotel lounge. Gave this little place a try and while I was not exceptionally hungry, the 10 hot wings hit the spot and the Harpoon beer was good, despite the New England beer prices ($6/glass). Otherwise the menu is very reasonably priced (see photos), considering you are at the airport. I concur with previous reviews, Joann is a GREAT attendant/host. She is conversational to the right degree and engaging. Multiple TVs are available for your entertainment and get this, outlets are available at the bar for your draining cell phones while you recharge! Highly recommend Cask and Barrel for your BDL stay/wait. read more

Great beer selection, awesome wings and good service. Outside security there isn't much, just this place and a dunkin donuts, so I'm happy to find a bar.
