My newest "favorite" spot. I must have walked by in, conservatively, 100 times before spotting it on yelp and then keeping an eye out for it. It's the awesome Maison storefront that always catches my gaze, I guess. I'm glad I spotted this joint. Small, friendly, and quiet; cool temp (important!) and wifi. Super nice baristas and great pastries. I had an iced americano per the yelp recommendations. I guess I like my espresso hot and prefer iced coffee; wasn't too crazy about the drink but my friend loved hers. I would definitely go back again and try the iced coffee which I'm positive is fantastic, as everything else was great. This is a great spot because it combines the tasty coffee (and treats) options of Oslo and Blue bottle with space to lounge, work, and chill out. Boom. read more

Despite its touristy location, it keeps a neighborhood vibe, packed with regulars, friends and freelancers. Good amount of mixed seating (including a computer free table), quirky but non-pretentious decor, and with $2 drip and $3 cold brew, Black Brick is a much more reasonable option than to Daily Press, Cafe Grumpy and other North BK staples. So glad to have moved across the street from my new spot. read more

I still like the other places but there's a special place in my heart for this one. The overly cheerful barista who couldn't retain his chirpiness when I asked last time for a quick rundown on a cortado charmed me. Love that ceiling - check it out! Love the table reserved for non laptops. Love the whole decor. And of course, love the espresso. Last time I went, it had this awesome weird smoky taste to it. So whats a cortado? This is my goto coffice, and they don't seem to mind. The whole place is a hipster's wet dream, with all the reclaimed wood and ubber cool bathroom with a water closet pull string. It's a great open space with a lot of light, excellent decor, Stumptown coffee, lots of plugs, fast internetz, and friendly unpretentious baristas. The only thing that they don't have is food--and I think they don't mind if you bring in a bagel from the bagel shop around the corner. Seen it done, not sure if its condoned or not. Possibly the worst customer service I have ever received. Coffee is burnt and cheap beans. They were rude and unhelpful. They also are running the business illegally as I saw them turn away a woman with a service animal, even after she offered to show them papers. The prerequisite for working here is to be adorable, covered in tattoos, and completely aloof. It's the unspoken Brooklyn coffee shop code - and I have no complaints. I got an Americano and it was only $2.50 - I don't understand why a place where the average transaction is $5-6 gets shit on for being cash only. But I digress! The music is great and played on a tolerable volume, the lighting is dim, they have ample seating (yes, in wonky, cheap furniture, but what else would you expect?) and they get those free Time Out NYC magazines which my sorry self loves to read. How have I never reviewed Black Brick? Back when I used to live in the 'burg, I came here all the time. Their coffee is really strong and delicious (I prefer their French press), the baristas are friendly, and their cookies are delicious. So coffee-wise, service-wise, and food-wise, this is a stellar coffee shop. By all means, go and check it out, especially if you're a coffee snob. However, the atmosphere needs some work. Aside from the fact that it's dim and grungy, which I'm sure is intentional, there are two big drawbacks: 1) The music can be extremely loud and distracting, which sucks if you're trying to read, chat, work on your laptop (basically any reason why someone go to a cafe). I'm talking heavy metal on full blast. 2) Seating is ridiculously uncomfortable. They have a big "no laptop" table with high chairs, a low couch in the back that makes you feel like you're falling into a sinkhole, and then these metal chairs and a long wooden table that isn't positioned well with the chairs. Basically the coffee and pastries are amazing, but you won't want to stay for long. Oh and the Wi-Fi is spotty. read more

Great latte, comfortable place on the sofa to recharge both my and my phone's battery - but don't try that in the front of the house where computers are banned at certain times and outlets are scarce. They also care very much about the job they do and the coffee they sell. I've spent serious time trying to justify buying Black Brick's cold brew nearly every day over the past two weeks. It's SOOOOO bold. The chai is all the way worth it. Americano is one of the best I've ever had. It's a great, quiet place to pop open a laptop to work, as well, and at no point do you get the vibe that you need to bounce out quick, fast and in a hurry. Spend your money here. Walked the Williamsburg streets to find an epic coffeeshop. I entered to the tunes of "Brick House" by the Commodores. A friendly barista then made my espresso. Served to me in a small blue espresso cup and a green tea plate, this espresso is the bomb. I am happier with the "sour, bitter, Michael Jackson-esk so Bad its Good" type of espresso and beer. Walked all the way from subway stop to this cafe because I read the review on Yelp. Was a rainy day so it was perfect to grab a Latte and relax. I found it a bit expensive ($4.5) for a medium Latte. Anyway, the wait line is a little confusing, didn't indicate where the line direction began. The barrister swapped my Latte order with another dude who lined up two customers behind me.. the dude grabbed my Latte and the barrister wasn't aware that it was mine. Fine. I took my first sip of their hot Latte, it wasn't at the temperature like any other coffee from anywhere in the world... I think Blue Bottle tasted better. The only highlight was their environment... light was dim and the music was cool. Will I come back again? No, because it's not worth me spending 15 mins walking down from Bedford subway stop, and there is no much to see around the cafe. read more

Before this place opened I always made my coffee home. Now I kick my husband out of bed so he can go and grab me a cup :) The people working there are super nice, I never once found someone rude (even if there was a mile long of grumpy costumer) and they can all make killer cappuccinos/latte/macchiatto/espresso. You name it you got it. I usually go for latte or cortado and almond cranberry muffin. Also their king crimson iced tea is amazing and supper refreshing. I appreciate the table for not computer users A LOT. Actually I wish they had more areas computer free. This a coffee shop, not some grumpy customer office. May be back of the bar for computers and front for coffee lovers? They also have a nice patio on the back for the summer months. read more

I bet any other time this place would be okay to just relax, but for nothing else. If you have a laptop, good luck. On weekends you are herded into the tiny back room and if people are in there with no drink and no laptop, too bad. You have to wait. I'm literally sitting on the floor trying to work on my laptop. But the worst part is the router doesn't even reach the room required for laptop users. I ran a diagnostics and it said the router was apparently on the second floor in a closet and too far away from the location it was being used. So not only are you secluded but you can't even use your laptop if you need to be on the Internet. But the coffee didn't taste like shit, so I got that going for me, which is nice. read more

By far the best Americano I've had in the city. Very smooth and zero acidity. It's rare to have an Americano that doesn't make you reach for the milk desperately to cut the bitterness. The baristas are very nice too. Have yet to try any pastries though. Cute shop that's good to relax in. WHAT A JOKE. Having worked in retail for YEARS, I've never experienced such crap service - I spent over an hour in Williamsburg today looking for a decent coffee shop to reach out to a few clients and send off a couple emails - nothing extensive. After going to shop after shop, looking for an outlet, or just a place to sit - I found this virtually empty spot and thought 'jackpot': I'll send off these emails, grab a quick drink and be on my way - but no, first they've got one of those retarded $5 minimum charges (which I get - processing fees can be a pain, but its a coffee shop... lets be real - you're selling products that don't go much higher than $5 - not to mention, if you want repeat business on a product that clients are usually in a rush to get, having policies like that are kind of self-sabotaging - you're setting yourself up for reviews like this, but I digress), and then to make matters worse, I was asked to leave because I refused to purchase anything additionally to reach the $5 minimum... Again, I'm no stranger to that type of policy, and having managed multiple retail locations, I know that putting policies like that in place are a sign of a couple things: 1. You're struggling (financially) - probably on a rent level, and 2. You clearly have no interest or faith in customer retention. Dropping policies like that (as a consumer) is a great sign of good faith and customer appreciation - ESPECIALLY considering you're a small business. I love to support local/small businesses and empathize with them on a financial level - its tough! But at some point you have to make sacrifices that'll maintain a customer base and simultaneously keep yourself afloat. The way this whole situation was handled was REALLY poor and I'm beyond shocked/amazed that the management didn't handle things any better than they did - on a basic business etiquette level, I would NOT suggest this place to anyone. I hope this serves as a reminder: money helps a business stay afloat, but PEOPLE (both employees and clients) are your most important asset. Good luck. read more

It ruins me for days afterward, if I drink Starbucks, or some other inferior swill. Atmosphere is very relaxed, chill, lighting is a bit dark. OMG. sooo quaint and cozy, foreals! cutie barista dude was soooo nice and greeted me and whoever that comes in their door. deff reminded me of that typical Mission, SF barista dude...even better though. love love the coffee that they produce...but what i do miss about is the decor. totally recycled yet it all worked out! My favourite place to do work and have a coffee in Williamsburg. The coffee is fantastic - I love the Cortado. When you are about to get a cafeine overdose, they have good tea-blends to change to. The rooibos blend called Blue Crane is definitely worth trying. The staff is super well trained and very happy - an absolute necessity when ordering your first coffee. They normally select their own music, so the music style is very different every day. You discover some great new tracks while doing work! Sometimes the base does get a bit too heavy and one barista starts playing heavy-metal every now and then, which is typically my leaving cue. Besides the latter remarks - As good as it gets! read more
