This is close to the house. I was excited when the place opened and we had a new steakhouse around the corner. We tried it a couple times and it wasn't special and what we had didn't excite us to come back. It wasn't too expensive so it wasn't all bad. We went back recently and it has a much better menu and is better executed. I think it's a little more upscale then when it opened and it seems more expensive, but has proven to be more worthwhile. I came to this restaurant last night as I had a few people tell me that it had great food and atmosphere. I am traveling, so I was going to eat dinner alone on this visit. I was greeted as I walked in. The host told the seater to take me to a certain table. Turns out it was in the outdoor patio area of the restaurant. It was cold and rainy and no one else was in that section so I asked the seater to move me to inside the restaurant area. She brings me to the host station and tells the host, the host (maybe 18 years old) looks at me and rolls her eyes at me and says "pffft" She then tells the seater to take me to another table. The seater sits me there and I thanked her. So I end up sitting there for over 10 minutes with no service. No water, no one acknowledged I was even there. I look over and there are 4 employees at the hostess section just cracking up and talking to each other. Nope the restaurant wasn't even half full so I figured I would have gotten exceptional service. I decided since I wasn't getting any help that I would just leave. I was totally prepared to spend $70 on my meal that night for a great steak and some drinks. It doesn't matter how great the food may be if the service stinks. Hopefully the management sees this and makes some corrections on customer service. read more

Great food and service, but we got stuck in the 3 season room where the sound echos like crazy. There was a party of about 20 women who were very loud and it made the room very loud. We had a late lunch here. We were impressed with all the selections on the lunch menu and asked our server for suggestions. She was very helpful. We ordered the bang bang shrimp fur an appetizer. For our main course we ordered the BBQ triple pig. Everything was delicious. The only downside was that our appetizer was not served first; we got the main course first. But we still enjoyed the shrimp. For dessert we shared the brownie which was very rich and warm, and had vanilla ice cream on top. The coffee was delicious, we were told they find their own. The server was very friendly and very prompt. Ice water and coffee were refilled very timely. We will definitely go back. read more

We take our kids somewhere nice every year for Valentines Day and Birthday celebrations. I made reservations early January. The 5 of us were sat in a tight fitting booth in the noisy bar. The appetizers came out "warm" not hot. We all had steaks and they were ok- Ribeye was dry, and others said their steaks were ok but lacked flavor. Our side dishes were cold, waitress brought new side and they were Luke warm. Very disappointed to spend $280 for an ok experience. We should have went to Texas Roadhouse! read more

Love dining at Black Canyon. The patio is the best. Great wait staff and prompt service. Great food. My only suggestion: Please bring small plates to table when serving appetizers. And bring napkin/utensils to table when seating guests. The last three times I dined there, I had to ask for both items. So did the tables next to me. Easy fix: put down table ware when seating people. It's frustrating to be served your food/appetizers and have to wait to flag down your server to get plates/napkins and utensils. Such a disappointment on my most recent visit. If you don't have any food allergies this is a solid place but if you do, I wouldn't risk it. Not only was my food incorrect and served at the end of everyone else's meal (a party of 7) the drink that was supposed* to be on the house to help make up for it was also incorrect. After I went up to the hostess booth twice to request for Alexi the manager to come look over the bill since she said the mistakes would be removed and they weren't, she still didn't address our table. The server was excellent and it definitely wasn't his fault there were so many mishaps. Just an unfortunate experience from the back of the house and managers. read more

I have only dined here once so I can only speak to that experience. The atmosphere and service were very good. And there was live music on the patio, on a Tuesday, which was nice. However, I was a little disappointed at the selection of steaks on the menu along with the quality of steak, for the price. The steak was a typical, 1/2 inch cut, bulk purchased ribeye. It was prepared correctly and I would certainly eat it again, just not at $24. Along with the $8 draft beer price and the a la carte menu style, it is a fairly expensive dining experience. In my opinion, this restaurant is about 30% overpriced. It has a Chops price tag without the quality. read more

Oh Black Canyon. We heard all the good reviews and so we decided to give it a go. The décor was nice. We were seated and then I looked down and saw the stained paper menu.... Tsk tsk tsk! Don't be cheap and reuse paper menus with stains! We ordered some drinks and asked to start off with the Cheseapeke oysters and tuna poke. The waiter brought both out. I have to say the plating was very disappointing so disappointing that it overshaddowed an otherwise delicious poke dish. It was like they just threw it on the plate. I wanted to say: "Hey now.. fan out the avocado and wontons...Whats with the ball of wasabi that looks like someone left chewed up gum on my plate? Maybe get better plates and dipping sauce dishes than say Applebees You have a dipping bowl so small that the wonton cannot fit into you should add a small spoon. Who serves appetizers and no appetizer plates?" No wonder the menues have stains... Lets move on to the oysters. The oysters were very good. The mignonette paired very nicely with them as well. However, again think about adding some small oyster forks and a spoon for the mignonette... For dinner we ordered the crab cakes and fish tacos. Both were delicious. Again, really need to get better looking plates... My only problem was when you give me a side of stir-fried vegetables I would expect more than just squash and zuchinni...my goodness add some onion and peppers. I would also expect more than just a child's palm full of zuchinni as well... We paid our check and saw that outside on their patio there was a singer so we decided to have a drink on the way out. We sat down and for 15 minutes no one came by to see if we would like anything. So my husband went inside and ordered at the bar. As he came out with the drinks a waitress said to him "oh I can carry those to your table" ... Yeah I don't think so...we had to get up and order these ourselves so I don't need your help to carry them 2 ft... lol! All in all I think Black Canyon is just ok. They need to step up their plating and service drastically to match the prices on their menu. read more
