Tonight we decided to visit the property The server was great, explained everything, suggested specials and even brought the happy hour weekly special menus to us. Worst meal & service. My salad arrived wilted, my shrimp were overcooked & the coleslaw tasted like it had been left out in the refrigerator. Great food here! My family and I have been passing by this restaurant for years and we finally decided to give it a shot! I had a French dip sandwich, it was delicious! The au jus was simply wonderful and the French fries that came with it was delicious. I only give this four stars because the atmosphere was a little sketchy. When we walked in, the bar is right there and we were given weird looks from everyone at the bar as if we shouldn't have been there. It just made my family and I feel a little uneasy. 3.5 Stars. I would easily classify this Bar & Grill as a "local hangout" spot, with many people visiting during Happy Hour, primarily hanging out around the large bar inside the main entrance. There is also an adjoining liquor store if you just want to grab and go. After snagging a spot at the bar, I looked over their fairly limited draft selections while waiting for the bartender to finish her conversation with some gents at the other end. I quickly learned she's probably never won any customer service awards while working here, even despite the blond hair and a tramp stamp. I had to repeat my order a couple of times and then remind her what I was drinking when she eventually offered up a second round. The same thing soon happened to the guy next to me, which I found amusing. Like other spots around the Jersey shore, you have to order your food from a separate waitress, so stand your menu up on the bar when you're ready. Speaking of the menu, it is surprisingly extensive with many options to choose from. I decided on the French Dip sandwich with fries, which was excellent. I could have used a bit more Au Jus in a slightly bigger cup, but it was very good otherwise. The efficient waitress, not the bartender (of course), eventually consolidated my food and bar bill, I paid and was on my way. The previous reviews for Black Cat's are dead on. Probably one of the best restaurants in the state, and definitely in south jersey. I would highly recommend others to come here, especially if they want to escape the casino restaurant traps of shit food. I would recommend trying Cat's chicken sandwich. I have this one every time and refuse to try anything else. The chicken is grilled and served with a FRESH roll, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard. FRESH sweet potato fries to die for. FRESH lettuce with a homemade ranch dressing for my salad. The best part is when you get the bill, everything is reasonable. This place is awesome! read more

Food was ok. I got a salad the dressing was weird and the lettuce had clearly been sitting out because it was shriveled up. I love cucumbers but they were literally like dehydrated they were so bad! We got a pizza too it was ok just average. Water was nice but the lady who was the bartender couldn't keep her hands off a man and payed no attention to us at all. We ate here because of the great reviews on yelp. Ordered the agnus burger and it was flavorless. The onion rings that came with the burger were hard and burnt. The kids chicken fingers were overcooked and the fries were dry. The chicken sandwich was tolerable but like another reviewer stated, the canned mushrooms were completely unappetizing. There was one waitress on a Friday night so the service was slow. The atmosphere is dingy and when you walk into the restaurant, no one greets you or tells you to seat yourself, so you stand around looking stupid. We won't be coming back here. read more

I went here for a sandwiches and drinks with 2 friends. The bartender was very friendly . The prices were very reasonable. Shared a cheese steaks and fries. Yummy. Would def bring my hubby come back for dinner!!! I do not know if it would be a place to bring my girlfriends for a girls night. I would love to try their pizza I have heard it is very good. If I could give no stars I would. This place used to be really nice, but not anymore. I used to eat here occasionally before school or after work religiously. I came I here recently for a celebration with a close loved one, bartender took the money for my two drinks out of a twenty I gave her. I ordered a small plate of food and ordered one last drink. Waitress came with the bill for the food I payed her and since it was getting late I left more than enough money for a tip and the last beer on the table as well as a large tip for the waitress which my gf responds that I left a lot of money for them. ( I tend to tip large out of habit.) when leaving I got to my car and the bar tender ran out yelling that I didn't pay when I exclaimed I thought I was paying as I was going she said no I have a tab of 18 dollars that was never payed. Since it was cold, my gf and I were tired and just wanted to go home I said whatever, told her I guess that's your tip than on the table. Never have I been that insulted in my life. Bartender basically got a 35 dollar tip that night and the bar lost a customer out of me. Mind you the one beer that she apparently didn't take the money out of my cash on the bar should have only been 5 dollars which was left there along with a tip. So if anyone goes here make sure the staff is all in sync with food and drink orders they will double charge you apparently for food. read more

We thought this looked like an interesting restaurant, close to where we were staying. We arrived around noon. I ordered eggs and asked for fruit in place of the potatoes but was told they do not serve fruit. So I ordered the soup of the day, as did another person in our party. It was a chowder and obviously from a can, neither one of us could eat more than a few spoonfuls. Even the eggs didn't look appetizing. If you want a good meal, I would not recommend this place and we did find other local restaurants much better than this. read more

Visiting the area and a little hesitant to come here based on other reviews but.... we were greeted with smiles and hellos, seating is as you like no waiting to be sat. We sat at our table and our drink order was promptly taken by a very nice waitress/bartender. We talked about a few of their popular items and decided on a pepperoni pizza and the French dip sub. Everything was DELICIOUS!! The French dip was great and as another yelper posted the au jus was great! Pepperoni pizza was nice thin crust with just the right amount sauce cheese and pepperoni (a little greasy as pepperoni pizza can be) - kinda reminded me of Casolas pizza back home (miami). Hubby and I had a couple beers each (Stella and Goose Head IPA). Finished it off with a nice piece of carrot cake which was pretty good as was the frosting! Music was at some point turned off and the baseball game turned up. Nice local eatery with friendly atmosphere and good food!! read more

We went here to try our dining out card we all used ordered broiled seafood combination thought that would be an easy one the food came out with that real fishy smell that you say to yourself here we go but you kind of over look it cause of your discount from the card and then when the bill came they said you couldn't use the card cause it was a special i'am not big on reviews but I had to do this one they should have paid us for eating this meal everything was dried out including the vegetables the place was just about vacant on a Saturday night that should have been a clue even if he would have gave us the discount on the regular price of the meal it would have been ok we tipped the waitress as normal 20% no problem with her except that I feel sorry for her that she has to work here sorry not good read more

Last night was my second time at the Black Cat. There will be more. Food was excellent. Atmosphere is just what you would expect. Locals and passers by all together for a good time. Everyone is friendly. Band was great. A bit too loud at times, but it was Saturday night and the place is small. I had wings and French Onion Soup. Wings were awesome, but the soup was not good. Not enough cheese and it wasn't left in the salamander long enough for the cheese to crisp up a bit at the edges. Broth lacked salt and flavor. Wings, however, will keep me coming back. My wife had the special burger. I think it is "the Bennie Burger" or something like that. She said " this might be the best thing I have ever eaten." Tap beer selection was ok. Thank god for the Goose Island. The Black Cat is a local joint that attracts others with good food and great location. They don't pretend to be anything else. Don't ever change. read more
