Drove over from Scarsdale for a little Sunday morning breakfast. This is a nice little cafe. A wide selection of coffees and teas, and 13 different varieties of hot chocolate! The breakfast menu is small, but tasty. Your options are one of three breakfast burritos (classic, veggie or spicy), french toast, or omletes. We shared a burrito and the french toast. Everything was very good, the burrito in particular, and more than enough for my wife and I, and our toddler, HB. The biggest issue I have with this place is that it does not have a high-chair available. While not a deal-breaker, we stayed and ate, I would probably choose to go elsewhere the next time. As good as our kid is, as well-behaved in a restaurant as he may be, it is just easier with him in a high-chair. Friendly staff, simple food. Very kid-friendly. We had sandwiches with the option of salad which tasted like they have not been washed. Sandwiches were good enough to fill your belly and that's about it. Hot drinks were fabulous and the best part of the meal. read more

"Yay! I'm a fan." Fits. It was not perfect. It was good and the morning we went was lovely. Rose colored glasses maybe, a stretch to give it four stars, sure. But it was a nice morning and the breakfast burrito was great the 2nd time around, after we sent it back to make sure our bacon was fully cooked. Fabulous. That is all. Love the atmosphere, it's funky and inviting. Art, old books, rustic decorations. The pastries and cookies are delectable. Get there early if you want one of their famous almond croissants, though! There's a huge breakfast and lunch menu as well, with lots of fresh cafe options like smoothies and panini. A nice little cafe right in the heart of bustling, action packed Irvington. Seriously, why is this town so dead? Anyway, Black Cat has several varieties of hot chocolates which I highly recommend, as well as coffee and tea, not to mention some tasty desserts. They also make sandwiches, soups and salads. I noticed they have a selection of gelato which I have yet to try, but now that the weather's warming up, I'm sure I'll test them out. Awesome space on the lower east side. There are always comfy couches or chairs open for you to chill out and they never ask you to leave or give you glaring looks because you finished your coffee 6 hours ago and you're still lounging or working on your computer. Not bad ... Not great. This review is simply on the coffee and chai teas. Thought the prices were fair but the coffee was just average. Enjoyed sitting outside but the inside was small and crowded. Chai was mostly cream and lacking the spice you would expect. Even had the vanilla and the spice one (you pick one or yhe other) coffee was just was nice and strong, just make sure you ask for extra ice if your getting it that way. read more

Oh man, talk about terrible wraps. They look great coming out - I got the chipotle wrap, nicely pressed with tons of sauce. But when you bite into it you want to immediately spit the food out. Imagine biting into what must have been last weeks chicken just pulled from the freezer and attempted to be heated under the buttocks of an overweight chef. Went there with high expectations based on review in my local paper. The soup is fresh, tasty and a good value. The rest is an embarrassment to good food. I have no idea where they get their provisions but anything they serve in their sandwiches and wraps are horrible. I believe Boars Head has destroyed deli food. There was a time a deli or restaurant would cook or roast their own beef, chicken, turkey, pork and cook or prepare fresh salad and vegetables. The most wonderful coffee shop on the Hudson River. Not only is the coffee and tea excellent (along with all the variety of preparations), but the food (breakfast and lunch) is healthy and well prepared. I've had two soy lattes here over the span of two weeks. Both were piping hot, but neither barista took more than two seconds to steam the milk - there's no foam, certainly the soy milk was still very thin and watery (it tastes as if the carton wasn't even shaken, actually, though maybe she did give it a half hearted shake). There are a couple cursory bubbles you'd get when you stir something vigorously. While I don't want a fancy design on the top of my latte, I definitely want the milk to be foamed nicely. Not worth $3.25 in my opinion. The barista today was far to eager to hand me my drink and serve the next... oh wait, there was nobody behind me... Not particularly inclined to spend more money there to try other stuff if I can't get a coffee to go with it. read more

The menu looked great and I was looking forward to trying this place today, but our experience was highly mediocre. We stopped in for lunch at 12:30pm, but unfortunately they didn't have most things listed on the menu and we had to settle for the chipotle chicken wrap. Freezing day and warm hot chocolate. What more could I ask for? I was impressed by the sheer number of hot chocolate options (and tea for that matter, but I didn't go for the healthy stuff). I went with the mint, and my husband went with the classic chocolate. Delicious! I also had a sandwich (the #3, husband had the #10). It tasted fantastic, but it was teeny tiny. For over $8 I would at least expect to be full. I probably could have eaten two (and I'm a girl who usually eats half of everything and is super full).
