I am happy to recommend Black Cat Plumbing. They ran a new gas line from the meter to my freezing basement so I could put in a ventless heater where the dirty old wood stove sat. Across the board they communicate very well--Chrissy for scheduling me with a sense of urgency, Felipe for understanding the details of my project, and Dylan (who did the work) for letting me know he was on his way. Details like those are easy to skip but what a difference they make. Dylan was exceptionally detailed and even artful about the install--he didn't just bore a hole in the chimney and run some pipe, he made it fit in and look like it was part of the original build. To look at it now you'd think the house was built that way from the beginning. I was relieved when Chrissy was able to schedule the county inspector to come out surprisingly fast to sign off on the permit, and how nice to know the work is on record as permitted and verified by the county. Given the professionalism, the craftsmanship, and the time invested to do an exceptional job, the pricing was reasonable. Could I have done it for less? My shower drain had a hole that had been leaking into the crawl space. I asked Jake if I could venture under the house with him to get a good look and so he could show me what we were dealing with. I project managed my home bathroom remodel and I awarded Black Cat the job after soliciting 5 bids. Black Cat was the ONLY company that cautioned me about ALL the things I needed to plan for, including a required move of the plumbing stack to meet city of Portland code for the new toilet placement. They installed a new Toto toilet & washlet, plumbed for/installed a rain shower, handheld & diverter into my newly built/tiled walk-in shower, new bridge faucet for my historic porcelain sink - and they also installed a laundry sink in my basement where one hadn't been present previously. They also brainstormed joist reinforcement solutions in the basement with my demo contractor. The Black Cat crew was top notch - thorough, professional, and they did high quality work. Jaime came out late Thursday and diagnosed the problem wiithin 20minutes. We had been out of power for 5 days due to the storm then a pipe leaked. Water was flowing through my family room wall and ceiling. Plaster is warped. wood floors are damp. He addressed the urgent issue and capped off the line so we could have water in other parts of the house and stay in our house. I called Blackcat today to schedule the rest of the job, got voicemail. they called back by end of day. Ethan from Black Cat just saved my parents - who are elderly - and whose large home had a pipe explode on them in the ice storm of Jan 2024. He came over in the ice when everyone else was closed, found the cause of the problem, which was very difficult to spot as it was hidden deep in the corner of the basement area, and sealed up the pipe so they can cause water again. I am a guy that places very high value on customer service. It's paramount in my view. So much so that I will go out of my way to give my business to those who provide the level of service that was once - long ago - common and taken for granted but is sadly a rare quality today. Black Cat Plumbing delivers in spades. Referred by Repipe Specialists, Black Cat had me covered start to finish. The whole-home repipe job took two days and the three-man crew - Cody, Tom, & Marvin - were always prompt, proficient, considerate, efficient, honest, and focused. Moreover, they picked up after themselves and never left a mess. I would be remiss to not comment on the fact that due to no fault of their own, the city inspector failed the job first time out due to a leak in an outbound line (they only replace inbound water lines on a repipe), and a shower remodel that was in progress, as it did not have the trim kit (handles, mixer, nozzle) installed and so the inspector couldn't verify the hot & cold lines were correctly connected (they were). After the city inspector called them, Mike Perrotti (owner of Black Cat) called to let me know he would send Tom out the next morning to fix the leak and install the trim kit at no additional cost. Keep in mind that these were issues that Black Cat Plumbing were in no way responsible for. Tom arrived at the appointed time and had the work done in record time. The job then passed with flying colors. In fact, the inspector commented on what good work they do. That's service at it's finest. I found their work ethic to be exemplary, as was the work they did. My contractor had hired these guys as subs on a project at my house but when I wanted another job done I was referred to another group. That group told me they won't do "small jobs". I tried again only to be told no work on Fridays. I am an essential worker & days off are nearly impossible to get & I happen to have off a Friday in September & another in December. 4 weeks notice would have been plenty for the job but this variable makes working with them impossible. If you have a large scale job & work from home they might be a resource but for everyone else, forget about it. read more

Just called them asking for advice about an old odd size toilet in a hundred year old house that I've been trying to replace but I keep buying ones that don't fit even thought the measurements seem right on paper. I'd have to say, they are the best. My wife and I, recently, had our plumbing updated to PEX. Before this update, if you flushed the toilet, and someone was washing their hands in the kitchen, the person washing their hands was subjected to nearly a steady dripping of water, until the bowl filled. Our house was built in 1925 and obviously needed the plumbing done. Black Cat was able to convert us over in one day. We do have exposed pipes in the basement, as our basement isn't finished, but given their speed, and quality, I am amazed. It's not simply the above that prompted me to go on Yelp and write a review. It's the guarantee of good service afterwards, which is icing on the cake, if you ask me. We were having some issues after getting the new plumbing, we were having some troubles with our hose bib. This was not due to anything that Black Cat did, but due to hose bib manufacturer. Essentially, after turning off the hose, a stream of water shot out of where the hose connected to the bib. I called Black Cat and they sent someone out THAT DAY, despite a fully-booked schedule to replace the part. They were very candid about others reporting the same issue, and that they are seeking a different manufacturer for the part. Now that's what I call listening to what your customers have to say. I am truly impressed with the service, and I wouldn't bat an eyelash at calling these guys for any other plumbing projects we have in the future. Also, they gave us a cash discount; albeit, it did feel odd paying someone thousands of dollars in 20s (the ATM only gave us 20s for some reason). I had a lengthy list of plumbing fixes that were pretty major (and required by the City), including the installation of a backwater valve that required cutting a whole in the cement floor of my basement apartment, repiping and venting several fixtures, and rerouting the main stack. The necessity of this repair was scary--both in terms of the level of destruction and the cost. But the team from Black Cat made the process painless. Mike, the head dude, did the estimate. He devised a creative way to meet the code requirements that would destroy less of my house. He was also hilarious, smart, and had great insights about dealing with the city permit office. Chrissy in the office was responsive and kind. She was so personable and funny, that by the end of the week (we talked several times), I literally wanted to buy her a beer and hang out with her. The guys that did the work--Josh, Filipe, and Marvin--were freaking awesome: Hard-working, knowledgeable, and respectful. The job was complicated for several reasons, but they clearly had the know-how and the tenacity to work around any issues. They were courteous to me as the homeowner, respected my house, told me everything that was going to happen, asked questions about my preferences, and got the whole crazy mess done and wrapped up in a day.
