We came here for breakfast. The doughnuts were so good that we came back for lunch. Everything was amazing.

Their donuts and desserts are amazing and the service is top notch as well. We love coming here anytime we are visiting the area.

Came here two days in a row - it's that good! First, I ordered the chick pea sandwich and a matcha latte. On my second visit, I ordered the beach bum breakfast sandwich and a cinnamon sugar donut and vanilla cardamom latte. It is all to die for. We took our breakfast to the beach and ate by the lake. They have a cute indoors area with a few tables - if you can grab one! There was a short line and it moved fast. Love that their coffee go-to is oat milk. Vegetarian/vegan with gluten free options. When we arrived, the line was out the door so we knew it was going to be good. I really appreciate that they had non-dairy milk options (I loved my vanilla cardamom oat milk latte) and gluten-free food. My niece loved her cinnamon roll (it was bigger than her face!), and the woman behind the register was kind enough to help her choose a drink with no caffeine. We're in town visiting, but I'm sure we'll be back before we leave. read more

Cute and friendly atmosphere in what appears to be an up and coming area that is being revitalized. Due to Covid there is no where to eat the donuts though, except one bench outside directly in the sun. (Tip: drive a couple miles down the road and there's an awesome overlook at a county park. On the other side of the road is a playground next to the town hall with picnic benches.) We had a raspberry scone and 3 varieties of donuts. The scone was average with one dollop of raspberry filling in the middle but otherwise flavorless. The donuts all had good texture but my group was undecided on flavor- some had more than others. I'm now going to change my review to from a two star to a one star , due to their response from my very reasonable , two star review. I was being way too nice with that one. They called me out saying I didn't respond , but I just noticed this now . You can see in their response that there is no actual apology for my bad experience , and they make many excuses for the lost young kids behind the counter. Any place that strives to run out of something needs to rethink their business. Being busy is no excuse to having customers standing around wondering what is going on with the their food. Hire more workers then, or teach your employees to communicate. And saying that " I have a bone to pick " is a very unprofessional response . I was only initially posting an unhappy review , but now I'll be spreading the word all around about this unprofessional place . read more

I was staying in town last weekend for a friend's bachelorette party and this coffee shop was down the road from our Airbnb. We stopped here on our way down walking towards the lake. When we arrived there was a short line outside, but we made it just in time because by the time we left the line was wrapped around the building. As soon as we walked in we could see all of the amazing baked goods they offer and we struggled to decide what to get. Ultimately, my friend and I opted to share one of the cinnamon rolls (they were HUGE). I also ordered a vanilla cardamom latte with oat milk. The cinnamon roll and latte were both delicious! Book this bakery for your wedding! Our wedding was at Sundance Studios, not in Union Pier but 1000% worth it to work with Katie for our cake. Our cake was INCREDIBLE. Elderflower-infused yellow cake with vanilla buttercream. Everybody is still talking about it, it was so unique and delicious, not to mention gorgeous. We did a partial naked cake with white chocolate drip. It looked so pretty! -We also got mini fruit tarts and donuts. I liked the black currant ones the best, and we heard guests loved the cinnamon sugar and chocolate sprinkle too. -Katie is phenomenal. Very organized, she made this super easy. Amazing cinnamon roll! I recommend getting the cream cheese frosting. It was so good and big enough for 2-3 people to share. The center was perfectly gooey and cinnamon-y as well. I had wanted to try the breakfast sandwich, but it includes aioli - and the people working there couldn't tell me if the eggs if the aioli were pasteurized, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. read more

It must be difficult to make a profit as a small business on a sparsely populated stretch of Red Arrow highway, and quality (and gluten-free) ingredients do cost more. This place is amazing. I first heard of Black Currant because they did the desserts for a wedding I was in. Everything was great from the cake tasting day, where they had way more than just cake for us to try, to the day of the wedding where all the desserts were beautifully made and tasted like heaven. For the wedding we had an array of desserts- black currant cake, key lime pie tarts, donuts & more. I ate at least two of each. Try to keep your hands off them, they're THAT good. The coffee is great, the location is cute, and the owners (who were the ones who helped us) were perfect. A great spot in the area! Since the wedding, I have had Black Currant two more times for donuts, and I have not been disappointed yet. Nice work, guys. I'm definitely a raving fan. read more
