The second time I've taken my beemer here over the years and another great experience. First was to replace a leaking oil pan. Most recently to fix a TPMS problem that had been plaguing me for some time. Joseph's prices are fair and he's a great guy to talk to- learned a lot from him. My 2008 BMW M3 car had a loud knocking sound and Black Forest was recommended to me by a friend. Juan diagnosed it and said the knocking sound was coming from my clutch. So we set up an appointment and he did his magic. He was right where the knock was coming from...... the clutch! The clutch was breaking apart and hitting the clutch housing. He replaced the whole clutch assembly and the knocking went away. The whole time he was sending me updates on what's going on. He also fixed my TPMS malfunction. Overall, I am very satisfied with the work quality, great pricing, very friendly people, and I will be going back to them for any work on my car. I highly recommend Black Forest Independent BMW. Have had multiple jobs completed here and always satisfied at the end of the service. Been taking my e39 wagon here for 3 years now and will keep going here. The Guys here have really done an excellent job! If i dont do a DIY then i take my car here, especially for big jobs. They seem to be pretty busy and still manage to successfully get all the work done while helping others. They really got it all in control here, got the job done in a timely fashion and they did it perfectly. They have always helped me with diagnosis plus suggesting everything that i need to get done and in what order would be the best to get it done. They even let me take my own parts aslong as its all organized and the right fit, otherwise they get parts shipped really fast plus warrantied. These guys have a competitive price in the area and I find going here with my car is worth it because the Quality of Work Is Professional. Since I have been getting my car worked on here i have never had an issue with any of my services requested, which im really thankful for. Had an expensive repair job done here ($3800) last year, and it covered a lot of work, including front rotors and pads. My brakes continued to squeak in the weeks after the repair, but I was told that it could just be the break-in period. I sold my car about 3000 miles later, and got a call from the new owner a month later informing me that he found the front rotors to be the originals--not replaced as the repair invoice showed. Fortunately, Black Forest did end up replacing the rotors for the new owner and (after some polite urging from my husband) agreed to refund me $200 for the work that wasn't done. From this experience, I encourage everyone to ask any mechanic who works on their car to walk them through the work that was done and maybe point out the new parts installed, if at all possible. read more

I came here for the first time for a brake fluid flush on my 535i, however, Jason went above and beyond! Awesome, Honest, and Quality BMW repairs. These guys are Very knowledgeable about all aspects of BMW's. I brought my 2008 535i to California with 78,000 miles and was in need of a few things. I had them: replace the oil pan gasket, upper control arms, water pump and thermostat, valve cover gasket, turbo solenoids and a couple other things and I couldn't be happier. It's been about 3 months and it still performs perfectly. I compared them to my old BMW specialist in Atlanta, as well as the local BMW dealers here and this was the result. Their hourly prices are all about the same, but you are paying for people who actually specialize in these cars and not just general mechanics. The parts (only use OEM BMW parts) are the same everywhere. Here is where Black Forest excels... 1. They will tell you honestly what needs to be done now, what can wait, and what isn't needed. That is different than other places where they will get the most work each time the car is in. I really appreciated how they took me to my car and pointed out what was needed, and what the result would be. Little things, like helping me understand what replacing upper control arms will do for the car. Apparently one thing they do is when you hit the brakes at higher speeds they help stabilize the car. When worn they make a noise (then described the noise). Taking the time to help me understand the "how and why" it's an issue really helps. 2. If they can cut you any breaks, because if you're replacing part A..:might as well replace part B since we are in there anyway, they will. When I changed my water pump and thermostat it was about $1500. But, they only charged me for the thermostat part and not labor because they were in there to change the water pump anyway. The BMW dealer wanted an additional $800 in labor for the exact same work because the "manual" says it's X to change the pump and Y for the thermostat. They are charging 2x for the same labor. This is such a common practice but not many understand it. Quality isn't cheap, but it is worth it especially when you are talking about BMWs. If you want the cheapest repair possible, I'm sure you could cut a lot of corners at a cheaper shop. If you want top quality repair from BMW mechanics at fair prices, then this is where you want to go. These guys are Quality!!! 100% recommend them without any hesitation!!! I will be taking my car there as long as I'm in Orange County. Trust me, you will be happy with them. read more

After moving to the area, I needed to find a new shop for my 2008 e93 328i. I stumbled upon Black Forest Independent BMW, who at the time already had great reviews. I call them up for your typical oil service. Very friendly staff and always up for the challenge of getting you in as soon as possible. I showed up, within 15 minutes, my car was up on a lift and being worked on. I was allowed to stay and look at the underside of my car, which I appreciated. Ever since, Ive brought my car back to their shop twice, once for a vibration they were able to diagnose, expensive but they were correct and have never tried to sell me anything I did not need. I believe is was a coolant pump electrical issue. The last time I visited was today. I had done spark plugs and ignition coils on my own since I had a misfire on cylinder #5. After doing the work myself, I found myself now with a misfire on #4 and #5. I call Black Forest Independent BMW and even on their busiest day, they told me to swing by. Juan takes a look at my work and tells me that I did not tighten and snap on the wires to the coils all the way. Car is now back on the road working beautifully. I have been taking our BMW's to Black forest since the late 90's, with great service. The owner, Randy, has treated us very well. He is no longer managing the business. Our last visited was awful. I asked to have a gasket replaced that was leaking oil and the lights reset so we can get a smog check. We also told them the car was chugging on startup and sometimes would barely start. A $1000 later we still had the same problem. Took the car back. After changing a bunch of parts and charging a $1000 more the car still had them same problem. I will never ever take our car back to Black Forest. Getting charged for parts and labor for nothing should be a crime. Don't waste your money here. The ne management will cheat you. The mechanics don't know what they are doing. read more

I was referred by a friend and read the reviews... it seemed like the shop had a good reputation. I took my car in because the coolant was leaking. Randy diagnosed the problem, "fixed"/ replaced the coolant expansion tank and $300 later I was back on the road... for about a week. It was leaking again. I took it in and they "fixed" it, again. Two days go by and my car started to leak really badly (worse than before) and started to over heat... back to the shop. This time, Randy told me that the coolant tank wasn't the problem after all. There was a belt broken and wrapped around the upper hose. He wanted to charge me an extra $200 after admitting he never actually fixed the original problem. Of course I was concerned and upset. I attempted to discuss this with him but he refused to answer any of my questions and became very defensive and sarcastic... I kept my cool. I just don't understand charging someone extra when the error was on the shop, not me. I guess you find out someone's true character in situations of conflict. I won't be taking my car back here. read more

I can't say enough about what a positive experience it has been taking my car to Black Forest BMW over the past two years. Randy, Wolfgang, and Ryan run a top notch shop with an amazing family business atmosphere. I was referred to Randy by another Audi shop when I was looking at buying a used high mileage BMW. Randy did a PPI on the car and was honest about the expectations that should have in purchasing it. Owning a car with over 160k miles does require a fair amount of replacing vital system parts, and he was very upfront about it all. I purchased the car, and have had doing all my service since. For the first year, I shopped his advise around to make sure it was fair. Into my second year I now trust his estimates (which he hardly ever exceeds) are going to be highly competitive and his work will be thorough. Randy has also referred me to other great shops for AC, Windshield and Interior work. For me, this biggest tell of what a great shop this is is the smiles on people's faces after they've paid and are leaving with their new fixed auto's... I've been bringing my 2001 530i to Randy for over seven years after getting a ridiculous quote from a dealer service center (won't mention names). Randy has been nothing short of one of the best, most trustworthy and on-time mechanics I've even known. His knowledge of specific BMW issues is amazing and I can't tell how many times he's saved me a lot of money by replacing a sensor or some other minor problem, where I would have had no idea if it was a $150 problem or a $1500 problem. Without fail, when I leave my car at 8am, by 10am he calls and either tells me its ready (or will be ready soon), or what the deal is if longer. As a woman I'm hesitant when it comes to mechanics. I have a '99 528i that I recently acquired and am trying to maintain. Black Forest Auto came into my world from a Google search. I own a 2006 BMW 530ix wagon which is an awesome ride. the car is like new inside and out and I am most anxious to secure the best care for the car that I can. Over the past 3 months, I have had to replace the Belt Tensioner Assembly and in the process replaced the drive belt pulley and Serpentine belt. In addition, the brake system was getting to the point that it required complete replacement. Because I have been so pleased with the quality of the service received, I had Blackforest completely service my transmission, transfer cased and differential.
