Super upsetting to see dairy products be left outside of the stand and people inside talking instead of bringing the shipment in. Stopped by on March 30th midday, about 2:20-2:25pm. Saw a huge shipment of about 5-10 boxes of Vitamin D (each box containing 4 gallons of milk) and reduced fat milk sitting outside the door. Along with vanilla ice cream mix (I believe used for their chillers) as well. Blackrock is an amazing coffee location with great espresso and drink options. Unfortunately, seeing this shipment sit outside from 2:25pm (and definitely before this, this was just our arrival time) to most likely after 2:45pm (time of departure) is completely disappointing and nauseating. I sincerely hope this is not how the location consistently runs. Definitely will not be returning to this location due to this definite risk of food poisoning and especially not from dairy products. This is completely unacceptable from any food service location, let alone a coffee shop who primarily uses these milks for almost all coffee beverages... read more

I've always been a fan of drive thru coffee windows because I feel like they don't need much to be good at what they do. This one in particular, kills it. Drinks are great, especially if you're getting ready to go on a road trip or just facing the unavoidable traffic we've come to know and love. I tried the Chai Chiller, and it was bomb. I was totally okay with sitting in some traffic and sippin. I was most impressed by how quickly they crafted my order and got us back on the road. I have gone to this location at least 10 times now, and the fuels (energy drinks) are always delicious! The drinks look really beautiful and they taste amazing! The Italian sodas are very consistent with their flavor (they always mix the syrup just right!) I've never had coffee from Black Rock, but the fuels and Italian sodas are amazing! The reason I took a star off is because they recently started using paper straws, and the paper straw really takes a hit on how good the drink tastes. These days there are biodegradable straws that mock the plastic feel; they should get those. The paper straw gets mushy and changes the flavor of the drink a bit. I'd hope they would change the straws soon. Regardless, this is definitely a place you want to hit up when in Oceanside! read more

Seriously the best service I have had in a while. So good I felt inclined to open up my Yelp and leave a review. I drove up here on a Friday night with my girlfriend and one of our close friends and Charlie, the person working the window that time was amazing- very fun, sweet, and made really good recommendations. Everything on the menu sounded too sweet for my liking, so I asked Charlie what he suggested and he ended up telling me about an iced americano with white chocolate syrup, oat milk, and cinnamon. VERY GOOD. A little on the sweet side for my preference at the time but I could see myself ordering it more than a few times after that night. Our friend ordered a mint chip chiller. I thought it was gonna be super sweet, but it was perfect. I also got a prepackaged "chewy marshmallow bar" from Sweet Street. It's basically a much better rice Krispy since it has brown butter and sea salt. I wish I bought more. I'm from LA but I'll definitely be back here soon. read more

Black rock has amazing coffee and a wide selection of drinks. It is unfortunate that the service one particular employee has overshadowed all of the good things about this place. I ordered a couple of drinks for pickup through the app at the Oceanside bl location. I love to grab a coffee drink on the weekends as a nice treat. I usually will wait in the line no matter how long it is. I was a little pressed for time so I decided I would try to order pickup through the app. My first complaint is with what the app is offering. After I placed my order I noticed a banner on the top of my confirmation page stating that I would still need to wait in the line to pickup the drink I already ordered and paid for. Never in my life have I been to an establishment where the pickup/togo section is coupled with the dine in folks. Can you please explain to me the reason why someone would order ahead of time and pay in full to be told that they will still have to wait in line with everyone who has not ordered yet? What is the point of ordering ahead? So, first of all, shame on you Black rock for the false advertising on your app. It would be in your best interest to dismantle this feature on your app immediately at the Oceanside Bl location. Secondly, when I arrived the line was wrapped around the building so I simply asked if I could have them hand me my drinks through the door. One of the employees proceeded to tell me that the drink needs to be handed through the window so I would have to wait in line "like all of the other customers". This was said to me with me a great display of attitude and eye rolling. I then offered to walk around to the window so they could hand me the drinks. The employee then responded with increasingly more teenage angst. Shocked by her tone, I asked her "what's with the attitude?". Suddenly, I noticed the last dwindling bit of customer service she had in her body was quickly disposed of. With a shriek of terror she yelled "Get in the f***ing line" to me for all other customers to hear. Wow! This was pretty embarrassing . As someone who works in customer service I can tell you that customers are always going to get on your nerves but there is never a time where you should scream or use profanity towards them. The only time this should be an employees reaction is if they are threatened which she clearly was not. It's okay for customers to ask questions or feel confused about a process that makes absolutely no logical sense. I did not end up picking my drinks up even though I paid for them and I took my business elsewhere. We use to love this place but...We went in today to get coffee they didn't make mine how I normally get it and I go back to have them remake it, there was a girl there who was smoking vape while working, and she started talking shit about me saying that the reason the drink didn't turn out right because of how I ordered it. This is highly unprofessional to talk badly about your customers in front of them, I spend money and gave them business while they talked badly right in front of me to each other. Plus "Section 6404.5 of California's Labor Code prohibits smoking tobacco products in most enclosed workplaces". This is not safe or clean to smoke while making espresso shots and drink! She didn't even bothered to wash her hands! So unsanitary! read more

I'm stuck between 4 and 5 stars. Their coffee is actually really good, and their coffee drinks are awesome. They are really sweet, but you can still taste the coffee (unlike some big brand coffee shops that just taste like sugar and milk.) They also have their own energy drinks, and they make some really good energy drink cocktails. The customer service is also great; extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Okay, so why am I stuck between 4 and 5 stars? Sometimes, you just want to go out for coffee, and lounge with some friends to enjoy your company and atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I love their drive-thru. Whenever I'm down in oceanside visiting friends, I always want to bring them here. It would be better if we have plans and are just grabbing coffee to go. Since it's really just a personal preference, I'm going to give them all 5. Great product, awesome staff, and quick service. 5 stars all day! Now open one up in South OC! read more

Okay so this is the 3rd time I've tried this place. First two times the coffee was decent but today it was the opposite. All I get is a vanilla iced coffee so I'm not sure how you mess that up but it tastes extremely off. I just drove through for a hot mocha and had to drive back into the line for a redo and it was still not good. I don't understand... the last couple days I've been through, the mocha was really good, today, it's just hot milk, and not even chocolate milk! I can't even taste any coffee. There is so much inconsistency it drives me nuts! You just never know what you're going to get. I really wish management or SOMEONE would do some sort of training so that there's consistency in the product that the customer purchases. Everyone make the product the same way everytime! Incredible coffee and the young women were very sweet, fast and helpful. There was some confusion when the young woman asked how much I wanted to tip so I ended up tipping $3 instead of the $2 I had intended. But not a biggie. We love Black Rock! My whole house looks forward to waking up and getting our morning fuels... it's bad. The coffee is good but really sweet... the energy drinks however, is where Black Rock thrives!! You can do almost any flavor combination you could imagine, plus you can get them blended or as a smoothie. Some of my favorites are the strawberry banana fuel smoothie, and the regular pomegranate vanilla fuel. The employees are the best! I've never had a bad experience with anyone who works there, and they are so kind and patient. Even when my drink is wrong they will happily and quickly make me a new one; they've got your back! Plus the business constantly does deals like "first fuel Friday" where items are at a great price....and they have an awesome rewards system. It gets even better though because they are also ridiculously dog friendly. My dog knows exactly what he's in for when he sees we're in the Black Rock line. A puppucino topped with a dog biscuit! Can't say enough wonderful things about this place and I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow. read more

Black rock coffee bar is a delicious and rad drive thru (only) coffee spot on Oceanside Blvd! I live up the street and wish I could go daily but try to visit once a week. First off, everyone that works there is very friendly, even at the wee hours of the morning. They have the ordering system down to a science- and even when the line has been several cars deep, they always seem to get you in and out in a timely manner. When the line is on the longer side, they come out with their iPad to take your order so that by the time you get to the window your order is ready. Even when the line isn't super long, they call out to the next car in line which helps with the wait time too. Now, nobody goes someplace only for the service...so I must disclose that the coffee is BOMB! It's really yummy and reasonably priced. I've tried a couple of their specialty coffees but my go to is just an iced coffee with cream and sugar. As far as food goes, they only have some prepackaged baked goods and cake pops but that's to be expected given the small space. I'm looking forward to visiting in the morning and suggest you do the same for that pick-me-up! read more

While making my way down to San Diego I would make a pit stop here at this drive-thru in Oceanside, just to get my coffee on the rocks. I would always order the premium selections from their menu. My favorite flavors here is the "Jackhammer" Its infused in vanilla mocha flavor with an extra double shot. I suggest this choice if you're in the mood of needing that caffeine intake to go along with that sweetness, its really strong. The "Irish Coffee" It does have a hint of Irish flavoring within the milky smoothness of the coffee. It's not as strong but I enjoyed drinking it while driving down the south 5 freeway. The pricing here ranges from $3-$6. This is probably the only coffee place that has four different sizes up to an extra large. I find their standard medium size has a good amount of coffee. They have an easy to read menu and a few classic choices you'll find are; Breve, Lattes, Mexican Mocha, and Cappuccino. Also, they sell chillers, hot chocolate, chai tea lattes, and flavored Rockstars and Red Bull's over ice. Friendly and energetic staff. On one of my visits, there was one guy and a girl dancing to some old school 90's music over the radio and singing along the tunes of Bel Bev Devoe's poison. Also, on my recent visit the crew/staff in the morning made an effort to manage the drive thru process to go quicker, by asking the next driver their order while currently working an order that's ahead of you. It's really nice to see people enjoy what they're doing especially, serving coffee anytime during the day. Really cool convenient coffee stand with coffee that tastes exceptional. I only wish they can make more locations closer to home and in bigger cities so I can completely do away mainstream Starbucks. read more

Located not too far off I-5 in Oceanside, I came here upon the recommendation of a friend and a long drive back to LA. Black Rock is located right before the Taco Bell and as a unique little drive through stand. I like the concept a lot along with the staff, but I didn't end up liking the product all that much. It took me a while to order and the cashier/barista was very helpful in helping me select what wanted. I ask for something that is popular and a good example of what Black Rock Coffee Bar is all about. Did I ask for too much? Maybe. Did I put too much pressure on the situation? Maybe. It turns out their Caramel Blondie is what they're known for, either hot or iced. I went with the hot option as it was a late evening. Within two minutes I was on my way to try the drink in a cool cup. First sips revealed a VERY sweet drink with milky aftertaste. While ingredients were fresh, subsequent sips made me realize just how sweet this drink is. As I got to the half way point of my drink, I had to stop. I just couldn't do it in fear of a sugar overload. Besides, I wasn't getting much a coffee taste. Perhaps, I should have opted out for a drink that had less sugar and more coffee, or requested an alteration on the drink. Either way, for a first timer, I was wired on sugar and not coffee. Looking at their menu I'm starting to think they're all about the sweet drinks. Banana nut bread and chocolate chip cookie: I'd like to support that this was made by a veteran and his mom, so I bought these two items that hung right outside the cashier's window. I didn't realize that they would be quite poor in quality and taste, as they very mostly bread/dough and had little sugar or chips/banana. I would avoid these unless you're really hungry, or would like to wash down your drink with something. They're a quick stop, but my guess is mornings are busy here. I would likely check it out next time and request for a non-sweet drink and see what crazy looks I get. read more

Black Rock is such an awesome spot for a quick grab N go coffee pick-me-upper. This is my first time trying the Caramel Truffle Chiller and it's my new favorite! I typically had gotten the Caramel Blondie. One thing that I really like about the Caramel Truffle is its perfect balance between sweet and rich. I don't really like a heavy mocha taste in my drinks, so I was initially curious on how this flavor would taste being that it contained some mocha. I was pleasantly surprised that the mocha flavor didn't overpower the caramel, super super good. Would highly recommend if you're like me! read more

The traffic was getting annoying and I was getting impatient, so I referred to Yelp to see where I can get a coffee fast before getting a headache. I got the Blackout Hazelnut Mocha and it was delicious.... It was a bit too sweet for me, so on my second visit I asked for it to be made half sweet and it was just perfect. They do offer a punch card, that would give you a free drink after 10 purchased.... Despite hating traffic, I am happy that on that day, I hit that traffic so I would come across this place.... The Caramel Blondie Chiller with whip cream is my absolute favorite! Really love this cute little coffee bar. It's nice that it's a simple drive-thru with an easy to read and understand menu. The staff here are pretty friendly and they're really good at getting customers their orders pretty quickly, even on busy days! While I the wait times on busy days aren't too horrible, it would be nice if they had a speaker on their outdoor menu, to take orders. Even two outdoor menus with speakers might help traffic flow better. But regardless, I've never had to wait any longer than 5-7 or so minutes to get my order!
