Bagel store wouldn't let me buy a bagel. I was excited to see that they have gluten free bagels as I have an intolerance to gluten. I went in and ordered a sandwich and they checked if it was a gluten allergy or preference and when I said allergy they informed me that they have a shared toaster for all bagels. I know that I react negatively to shared equipment and I'm glad they told me. I would have been ok without a toasted bagel but they said they could not sell me a bagel sandwich without toasting the bagel. They said it was store policy. There is going to be risk of cross contamination in any bakery setting that sells gluten but actively toasting a gluten free bagel in gluten defeats the purpose. read more

I first discovered black seed bagels years ago when I went to Chelsea's market & I have been going there every time I come back to visit the city! The bagels are decent, pricing is good and their vegan option (veggie bagel) is absolutely delicious with their vegan tofu cream cheese! I've tried serval locations (this past weekend at the Rockefeller center) and they are all very consistent. Everyone who works at this location is lovely and kind, the service is fast and friendly. That being said, my bagel with vegetarian cream cheese tasted like meat and smoked fish. The bagel tasted like a burnt, very old toaster and left a horrible taste in my mouth. I had to throw away my first bagel from black seed. I will not be returning. I wanted to like these bagels and cream cheese options but everything was wrong with them. I've grown up in NYC and have been eating bagels since I was old enough to eat solid food and this might have been worse than a Thomas's frozen bagel. Delicious bagels! Very convenient location. The line was wildly long, but moved quickly. You place your order inside of an impossibly small shop, and then exit and pick up from a separate window around the corner. I got the veggie on everything, and it was perfect. Fresh, delicious. Tough place to find because Black Seed bagels is located underground at Rockefeller center. Thankfully a local helped me with navigating the area. Previously, the only thing I knew about black seed bagel was the gluten-free bagels were phenomenal - that alone is quite a feat, but for the non-gluten-free girly I had to give the normal bagels a try. I remember when this opened, in the halls under Rock Center, amongst the other shops and eateries. It was right before Covid. (We know what happened next). But alas, it survived. Plain Bagel toasted with ham & cheddar. The wait was long, but if you've ever been you'll know why. Six teenagers crammed into a small space trying to crank out orders and plenty of Tom Foolery. You're in for a 10 minute wait, if you're lucky, but they give you a buzzer that vibrates. So you can walk around and watch others wait for food too. So I get my order, and the ham and cheese is cold. Second time; Plain Bagel with Butter. 10 minute wait. The bagel was toasted and warm, but they squished the beautiful bagel, and turned it into a chubby bialy. My advice is to buy the bagel and take it home, or to work and fix it yourself. I have come here two times. Both were because I was very very hungry at the time I passed by it. I have to remember not to come back though. These bagels are not good NY bagels. They are small and mine was a bit hard. I came at lunch time and they had very few bagels left. I got a salt bagel not toasted with regular scallion cream cheese. What a mistake. Soo not tasteful and hard as I said before. The Bagel shop itself can fit like 4-6 people at a time and though the line moves kind of fast you still have to wait for your stuff at the pick up window area which is around the corner from the shop.
