I had high hopes for Blackbelly, given their rave reviews. I took my friend here today for lunch, and we both ordered the French dip. They were out of the bread it was normally served with. We unanimously agreed that both the meat and au jus were over-salted. I drank my Coke and tater tots and took my sandwich home, in hopes of doctoring up my very expensive sandwich. read more

3.5 stars. The service is easily the best part of this restaurant, everyone is very friendly and attentive. Our waiter Matt did an incredible job and did a 5 star job of explaining the menu, being friendly and helpful, and taking care of all our dining requests! The duck was also 5 stars, as was the cheesecake. The steak was not good. At all. I should have sent it back. It was so chewy/rubbery (too rare and too sinewy) and I spent $65 on it. Ugh. The mushrooms were a little too acidic but overall pretty good. The fries were tasty but nothing special. For a restaurant known for their steaks, I just couldn't give this place 4+ stars. Speaking just to the breakfast burrito side of things... which is still important! These used to be a gem. $6 for the OG (vegetarian) with crispy tater tots and super fluffy eggs... they have been diluted over the last 12 months to what today are undercooked not crispy tots and basic overcooked dense eggs now for $8.50. Prices have gone up everywhere but that doesn't mean you get to reduce quality. Disappointing. Also worth noting the shameless money grab for canned beverages. For instance a Yerba Mate is standard at $3.19 in any other store. Even Whole Foods. Here they are asking for $5. Not a feel good move. read more

We're from Utah and this was our 1st time to eat at Blackberry's. with my son who lives in Boulder. I was very impressed. We had the chicken, bass and butcher cut filet for dinner. All excellent but my son gave me several bites of his steak and the flavors melted in my mouth. Best steak I have ever had. The carrots were delicious as well. The charcuterie board was okay. Hey, you have an hour to kill and really liked the deli side of the business; so you proceed in to have a drink and a quick bite and endeavor to sit at the bar, right?! Nope, not at Blackbelly. The overwhelmed, and NOT friendly, hostess gives you a look is disdain as you walk in at 5:15pm. (The restaurant is nearly empty, mind you). With an annoyed looked, "ummm do you have a reservation disdain apparent)?" is the greeting (it should be noted that I am wearing a nice sports coat, button down shirt, jeans, and even expensive shoes)! "I just want to grab a seat at the bar, if that's okay (trying to be pleasant and smile, in spite of the nonverbal annoyance I am seeing in said hostess)?!" "Yeah, I guesssssss so. Go find a spot back there." (Casually walking back as I have at, quite literally, hundreds of not thousands of places) No room? Oh, but wait, there are 13 open tables. Yeah, no. Okay, that's fine, I'll ask if I can be accommodated elsewhere. The answer "sorry, have a good night (insinuation is GTFO)." I would've loved to give a good review, especially as an infrequent poster anyway (lunch fare was delicious last week), but I wasn't even given an opportunity to review anything before being rushed out. I wish I had more than 5 stars to give. I was visiting Boulder and friends recommended Blackbelly. I made a reservation for the chefs table, since I was dining solo. Things I liked: - the hostess seated me early and explained the 20% fair wage fee. I appreciated this because the restaurant I dined at the previous night didn't mention it and it was an unexpected surprise when the bill was 20% higher than expected. - the staff preparing the food were friendly to the chef's table diners as they cooked and prepped, which is no easy feat considering how busy they are - my server was kind, just the right amount of attentive and gave great food recommendations that I was happy to have listened to - the food was outstanding. Like melt in your mouth, give you shiverd delicious -- and surprisingly affordable considering the quality and taste. I had the beef tartare, the pork loin, and a coconut almond ice cream for dessert. The complimentary bread was also wonderful. I will run not walk back to this restaurant the next time I am in town. read more

We went here for a date night - the atmosphere is great! We got a counter seat and were able to watch the kitchen prepping all the meals which was a pretty cool experience. My husband got one of the nonalcoholic drinks (he was participating in dry January) and ended up really enjoying it. One of our two main courses was excellent (lamb dish) The Bad: Looks like a renovated Denny's in a strip mall parking lot. Expensive butcher cuts that really aren't standout at all. Perfectly cooked, but nothing to write home about, especially at these prices. Table was jammed in near exposed building structure and various switches serving staff needed access to. And, to top it off, hit with the "kitchen surcharge" on an already expensive bill. Either raise prices on menu items or take it out of your end. read more

See below: NEVER ORDER THE LAMB. It pains me to write this because I want to believe no one has gone through what we went through. The reviews are generally good. This was not our case. To start with the positive: the roast chicken and mac and cheese (kids) were good. My advice: DO NOT order the lamb in any form. I'm not sure what we were served but I picture it as them shaving off a 30 day-old frozen gyro and serving it. It was supposed to be shank - it was not. The silverskin wasn't trimmed and the cartilage and fat were really all we got. One person got the salmon that was billed as "the wagyu of salmon." It was a bit frost bitten and according to him, not a great piece. Service was as bad as it gets. When we were mostly (75%) done with our food, the sides we ordered came out (laughable, really). We were also in the tent with no heat on a 30* windy night. Obviously we will never return, but they seem to do a good business with the cougar crowd, so I'm sure we won't be missed. Chef Hosea Rosenberg founded Blackbelly in 2011 after winning Bravo's cut-throat Top Chef competition two years earlier. Since then, the meat-centric concept that prioritizes seasonal, sustainable products has won numerous accolades and soon opened an adjacent butcher shop that both supplies the kitchen and sells directly to consumers. I had booked a table for my buddy's bachelor party, but given logistical constraints, we arrived at 8:30 PM against a 9 PM close time. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the staff was beyond understanding and didn't rush us at all. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the offerings and literally everyone said hi and bye as we walked in and out. The venue is generally dressed-down--not casual per se but not formal either. Regarding cocktails, the Pinch Me was excellent. It was quite complex: sweet, citrusy, and herbaceous to start, with a slightly bitter, grapefruit-y finish. The mezcal and sake-laden Silky Penguin, on the other hand, was less than ideal. It was almost medicinal and tasted like woody water. To summarize the menu, what we tried was either amazing or pretty good. There was nothing that fell below this standard, which is quite impressive. The Charcuterie Board was relatively sparse but excellent, between the First Snow cheese (like creamy brie crossed with funky blue cheese, less the ammonia-like taste), the spicy sliced andouille sausage, pickled veggies, delicious honeycomb and jelly, and salty prosciutto. The table bread was exceptional and came with some delightfully salty butter. The Persian Cucumber was a solid palate cleanser with pickled shallots, vinegar, and a hint of spice. The Burrata Toast was just OK, though I did get the piece with less cheese. Not sure the copious greens on top added much. Finally, the Crispy Pig Ears were fantastic, possibly my favorite of the starters. The gooey egg contributed some richness and the red-pepper jelly added a welcome sweet and sour component to the dish. Moving on to the main courses, the chopped Lamb Leg was great. It came with thin, tender slices that boasted a beautifully grassy flavor and were accompanied by soft carrots and peas that had soaked up all the juices. The saucy and well-seasoned Cavatelli with Pesto was absolutely top-notch and they do not skimp on the portion size. The Bavette Steak was simple but done extremely well, with a nice crust, a wonderful chimichurri at the bottom, and some vinegary sweet onions. Everything is amazing, sans the tourist crowds: but you may want to make reservations at The Chef's Table. I was lucky; Got a seat, and one of the best servers I've ever had: Susan. In a very busy happy hour, food/drinks appeared magically; amazing on time, on temperature, and tasting GREAT. Lamb sliders at happy hour: the BEST. Pair with Crunchy Salad. Updated review: On our way to BDT and stopped here since we had time before the show. Very nice place! We were seated indoors ar the bar. We perused the menu and found some interesting items. A server never stopped by to check on us. My guy's complaint was why we were seated indoors when it wasn't busy when we first arrived. So he went back and asked about outdoor seating and we were accommodated. It was a beautiful day and the patio was very enjoyable. We even watched gliders going by! We decided on small plates and wine since we'll be having dinner at the theater. Olives, bread, cheese and prosciutto. Mmmmm. Some selections are a bit pricey, but HH was not too bad. We enjoyed ourselves and Benjamin was a very knowledgeable, friendly server. My first time to Boulder and I loved it! Please do not overpay for this food. I have experienced many good restaurants in Boulder at a fraction of the price. Steak was over cooked and tough (I did ask for temp clarification before I made my selection). Lukewarm vegetable, flavorless pasta and a weak Old Fashioned. Also, the 20% fair wage fee. We read it on the check as an additional charge, server described it as a service charge(gratuity) automatically added. If indeed an additional charge for Fair Wage distribution then shame on the owner for not paying a fair wage to start and then expecting customers to pay your payroll. read more

So I'm going to try and be straight. I have no complaint about food or service plus we sat at the bar. What I take issue with is the value of our meal. We ordered the rack of Lamb, which priced out at $85. Without even considering price I would have expected 4 chops. But in fact it came to us as 2 bones and I believe we were told it was 10 ounces which included the bones. So maybe 6 ounces of meat for $85, so roughly over $225 for 1lb of some really good Lamb. Mind you, it was really good. But bro, that price is absurd for what we got. ABSURD! Maybe Boulder is good with some ridiculous price gouging, but I'm sorry, I surrender, I won't do it. Took it to go and although it wasn't spectacular it felt like it was missing something. The salsa was definitely spicy though, and might have been Tapatio? Looks like there's sandwiches and plenty of meat to purchase as well. HOWEVER the restaurant for fine dining is not to be missed. There were 7 of us and everything was absolutely excellent. Like - almost loved it but not quite but getting there, maybe just a sprinkle of black pepper to get us there - type of like. I guess I hang out with really picky people. You know "those people". Yeah you do. They say stuff like "Emma Watson...ewww..." Personally I don't find anything wrong with Emma Watson, I find her almost perfect. Like almost perfect - like the only reason you're not perfect is because that's impossible so technically you're virtually perfect - type of almost perfect. We ate here with friends a few weeks ago. We had enjoyable meals - but not outstanding. Its quite expensive as other revirewes have mentioned - my New York steak was good - but not great. The person that waited on us was very helpful and provided very good service. What I really dislike is the 'bill shock' of seeing a 20% surcharge on the bill and then our waiter explaining that does not include his tip. I learnt later that the 20% surchage is a staff wellness fee - which I think is just a complete nonsense. A better way to describe it is a "owners additional profit fee". The owner of this restraunt has an obligation to pay his employees properly and ensure their wellness is looked after. If they are not making enough profit - but their prices up - like any other business. I feel sorry for the waiters as they must get pretty pissed off having to explain this ludricus fee to their customers. Seems like a very greedy owner here using sympthy for his staff to leverage their profits. read more

My husband and I stopped in for Thursday happy hour and were not disappointed. Great bartender served up an aperol spritz and a martini. The martini needs to be much colder but the spritz was perfect. We had the smoked bass dip with crostini and the toasted bread with ricotta and house preserves. Won't do the smoked bass dip again but can't wait to have more ricotta. Meat is their specialty and we are planning our next trip for dinner so my husband can have some MEAT! They serve one of our favorite local farmer's, Sky Pilot Farms, meat specifically their ram carpaccio. Cool place with a lively happy hour. Very attentive service and lots of variety in their menu. It had a mint flavor that made it different and lite. I really enjoyed it. The burger was perfect, juicy and a perfect medium pink center. The lamb was outstanding. It too was cooked to perfection. Juicy and tender. The sweet potato pancake served with it was scrumptious. Great place for dates and an awesome night out. Server was awesome too. Friendly and accommodating. Better late than never! Came here in 2020 for a valentines dinner and it was amazing minus one oddity! The menu, dinner ambiance and service were pretty on point. The only slight deduction of one star was due to charging a la carte for warm bread to enjoy the charcuterie board (which was Uber tasty but only brought out a tiny quantity of crackers... ) and the other odd moment was their in-house cheese - it tasted like German feet in summer - we demolished the rest of the board. Aside from that, the wine offerings were distinguished, we did tapas for dinner so that we could try several dishes! The tartare was wonderful (minus asking for grilled bread to finish the tartare- I get people hate carbs ) Every dish we sample was tasty- so we opted to get a post concert burger to take with us and it was the perfect late night umami bomb! While a meat eater, I wouldn't describe myself as a meat lover. I'm happy to admit that I was wrong- this butcher shop was incredible! We made last minute reservations so they only had a seat at the counter. This turned out to be the highlight of the night! The kitchen staff works like a well oiled machine. Each person having their own task- getting promptly to work when orders were called out. They take their craft very seriously and love them some meats! If you want to go to a place that is proud of their product, this is right up your alley. Their menu is created around each meat selection. The wait staff felt incredible helpful in our ordering process. We told them what meats we liked and they guided us through the menu and helped pair it with side dishes to compliment.
