Out of all the times I've been to Palm Springs, this was the second time here. First was just walking by and stopping in as it looked like a good crowd. Fast forward to this weekend, it was the Palm Springs Big Gay BBQ event that was happening along Arena Road. Whenever there's some kind of event, they tend to close the road down for cars. It's nice as the strip isn't that big. Mainly bars and shops that line the small block. We stopped in for a drink or two as it was pretty lively with everything going on. People enjoying themself with a nice glass and people watching. They have the main bar area with hi top seats that look out to the walkway and street. Also a patio area that is situated along the street. All hi top tables but it's out in the open. They did have some umbrellas set up but mister were all around so that helped a lot. If you wanted drinks, you could go to the main bar but they were also offering waiter service. Not only drinks, there was food available. We didn't have anything but what came out for people did look quite nice. Mainly sandwiches and salads. The crowd was pretty lively and nice. The other times I've walked by, it was nice but slightly more mellow. Depending on the days I assume. It's not that big inside but quite nice and the music was great. Service was excellent with our waiter. Took very good care of us. Drinks, had some rose and margaritas. Let's just say you get your moneys worth with the margarita. It had a nice kick to it. When my boyfriend and I were in Palm Springs last month on vacation we came here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch we had drinks so it was a liquid lunch . The bartender was friendly and nice. I ordered the Disco Lemonade (Tito Vodka, Hibiscus, Fresh Lemonade). My boyfriend had a Lemon Drop Martini made w/Grey Goose. The restaurant feels like an underground place with an industrial design. Took a gay friend out to Black book last night, he had never been there and had heard the food was good. And yes, usually the food is great here and service,,, however, last night, the waiter was so unfriendly. At the end of the night he brought Not the check but the credit card reader that said $107 and the lowest tip option was 18% or I had to figure it out while he's holding it in his hand. I wanted to only do 10%, but reluctantly since he was watching over and not putting the machine down and not being able to do math at that second, I granted him 18% and did not hit receipt. Hadn't seen this place before and decided to drop in for a cocktail as it wasn't as loud as a couple of watering holes two doors down. I asked the bartender if this place was new and he sarcastically told me that I was too "soft spoken" as he could not hear what I said. I told him never mind and waved my hand like "whatever". For one, I don't like to be loud and shout out for others to hear. Lower the volume or get your ears checked if you can't hear! I can't believe it's been almost 9 years since I first found this restaurant. I've been a consistent customer since and whenever I am in town, it is a place I always hit up. I still love the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, but lately I've been on a Provoleta Chicken Sandwich kick. For some reason, the combo really works. This splashy gay bar just screamed Palm Springs to Jamie W and me, even in the middle of the afternoon when we were expecting it to be relatively empty. But no, small groups of aging men in either bright tank-tops or black T-shirts congregated around the tables, and the entire front of the bar was completely open to the balmy desert weather ready for the denizens to be checked out. The beefy bartenders were quite friendly to us, though I heard from a local friend that they can get testy the more crowded it gets. I can well imagine the shenanigans that might occur under a full moon. I was here with friends Sunday May 24 to grab a bite around 8:00 pm. After waiting we were seated outdoors in their parklette. After being seated....... nothing. About ten minutes passed (and after others had their orders taken). I complained and a waitress told me we were not her table, but proceeded to take our order. These were probably the best nachos I've ever had because they're evenly distributed on a sheet pan and coated in tons of toppings. Loved the carne asada. Super tender and flavorful. I will say service took awhile because they were so busy. I think it was a Friday night. We were lucky to get a table that fit all of us outside on their patio. We grabbed a late night spot at the bar for some drinks after dinner. Sometimes gay bars that cater to men are downright rude to women so we were a little anxious but the fabulous bartenders both put us at ease right away. They were so friendly and helpful and super attentive. They helped me pick a good bourbon to enjoy on a rock and were so helpful to a young guy that came in and asked if they could maybe get food to go. The bartender was totally honest with him and said sometimes they can do TOGO orders if it's not too busy and he ran back to the kitchen to double check. Extremely disappointing experience. We ordered the house margarita, and it was completely underwhelming. The glass of water you see? Never once was I offered a refill. We ordered chips and salsa--which were great--but the guacamole we ordered never even arrived despite being told it was being made. The bald bartender pictured only checked on us once the entire time. He never returned to see if we needed anything else. This restaurant bar gastropub happy hour haven that has it's doors open (not literally this time of year) from Noon to midnight all 7 days in a week is a place to treat yourself - though now they're open until 1AM Monday through Saturday and until 11PM on Sundays (this might adjust as the weather cools in the late fall). Incredible drinks, super service savory eats, shameless sippable beverages and concoctions that will make you want to note B.B. in your little Black book of places you heart more than others. During the cooler seasons in Palm Springs Blackbook's patio is incredible to enjoy and they literally have their large glass doors open for a nice natural air floor whereas now, you strictly want to enjoy the comforts of tall tables, bar seating or some of their other options for having a great experience here. We came into town to have a long extended weekend of fun in celebration of a really good friend turning 32, Cliff. My friend's Adam, Shaun and his husband (also my friend) Carl had a drink or two after some AC shopping on Arenas (Road) where this gem resides. We got to choose are seating and it wasn't too busy yet around 1PM. I knew they had a ton of options, but the vegan and vegetarian ones really swept me away. Garlic Adobo Yuca Fries (sooo many, so delicious), chips, guac, salsa, vegan street tacos, Mediterranean salad and those Mediterranean Sandwich sliders that even my (very non veggie friends) went wild for as I shared a bit, especially my friend Cliff. So many fries on the table, I couldn't believe how filling everything was - some of the guys had the nachos which were a hit - these are all vegetarian, but fun foodie fact you is they have a vegan protein option to top those with aside from carne asada and pollo asada. Would love to see an all plant-based version of their nachos one day as I'm sure it be just as incredible as everything else. My Jack and Coke was crazy delicious and Arenas pour strong. I We had a really disappointing experience at Blackbook in Palm Desert tonight. A group of us (married women in our 50s/60s) stopped by because we were scouting places for an upcoming wedding celebration. Our friend's son is getting married to his partner next month, and we thought it would be fun to explore the local gay nightlife so we could surprise the wedding guests with a fun night out while they're visiting. Unfortunately, we were turned away at the door and told we had been drinking too much and couldn't come in. The strange part is that we hadn't had anything to drink at all that evening. We were honestly confused and pretty taken aback by the interaction. The person at the door (a bald man wearing a shirt that said "COCKS") was very dismissive, and the whole exchange felt unnecessarily rude. Afterward we walked across the street to Hunter's, told them what had happened, and they were incredibly welcoming and kind. The difference in hospitality was night and day. We were hoping to find a fun place to bring friends and family celebrating a wedding, but based on this experience we unfortunately won't be returning. read more

Blackbook is an ok bar that serves food. It's often crowded with tourists, it's loud and often there's drunk customers. Food is ok, but they think the bigger and more sloppy the burger the better. Burgers are so big it's impossible to handle. Food portions are huge. The menu is limited, and expensive. Nachos are a best bet. Service is hit or miss. If you're going out to the bars on Arenas it's convenient to grab a bite to eat, but there are a lot of better places to go in town. read more

There was also a super cool sign on the wall. Plenty of parking, lively street. They were out of a few beers, and one of the signature drinks. I asked for a Strawberry Lemon Drop. but they weren't able to make it. So I got a blueberry lemon drop (it was a regular lemon drop w/ one blueberry). It was basic but tasty. Love coming to Blackbook - it's a frequent stop for my friends and me anytime we come to downtown. Stopped by today for St. Paddy's day and the vibe was great. Wonderful indoor-outdoor space.
