The only low spot in our Key West visit. In fairness we were a last minute reservation at 5:30. Place was empty when we arrived. Rare chilly overcast day in Key West. We were escorted out to patio with beautiful lighting and COViD safe table distancing. Waitress found us took our appetizer order as well as beverage. Water self serve in a repurposed wine bottle. Lovely idea. Our app of shrimp bisque tasted yummy. Served tepid to cool. Flavor spot on. Just imagine how yummy it would have been hot?! Waitress service style was hi and bye. No proactive. Another couple was seated nearby. Waitress was never extended absent. Manager came by and checked. We were left alone. Summary: food fine. Service could be better. Ambiance a bit pretentious just to be- no purpose vibe. We finished with a wow down Duval at 915, now that is a spot to Key West swoon over. read more

Their outdoor space was so romantic and cute, with socially distanced tables! Apps: We had the shrimp bisque and the sautéed calamari. Unfortunately these were our least favorite part of the meal, both needed salt and the bisque was watery with no flavor which I was disappointed in since bisque is my favorite :( Meal: Special of the day blackened grouper. OMFG. Grouper was super flavorful and well cooked so it was moist and flaky. There was some tropical cream sauce magic going on under it which was crack. Paired with their yellow rice and grilled asparagus it was perfect!!! Even the asparagus was cooked perfectly which I'm always afraid of limp overcooked asparagus. Absolutely fantastic service! The mussels were perfect. Tonight they had Golden Tilefish and it was fantastic and superbly prepared. The new owners are carrying on the previous traditions. The family and decided to try the Blackfin Bistro for dinner. We were told that it was a short walk from the hotel. It might be a short walk to some people, but, to my wife and daughter, it was a hike that they were not ready for. We arrived about 30 minutes later after stopping in various shops. The Blackfin Bistro is contemporary looking restaurant in Key West. It was decorated nicely, and felt very comfortable. I ordered a pan fried grouper, while my wife ordered the seafood pasta. While waiting for the food, they brought out some bread and butter for us. The food came out about 15 minutes later. The grouper was on a bed of risotto with some asparagus spears. The grouper also had some key lime tartar sauce on it. The combination of all the ingredients tasted good. Although, I would have preferred a different kind of fish. The grouper is what all the Florida Tourism board tells you to eat, even though there are better fishies out there. My wife's seafood pasta came with mussels and shrimp in creamy sauce. My wife and daughter liked the pasta. But, my wife commented that she has had better seafood pastas. Her seafood pasta was also very small. The Blackfin Bistro is a pretty good place in Key West. While visiting Key West we found Blackfin Bistro on our first day while exploring Duval Street. We were so glad we did! Wow! We had lunch here on that first visit and made it a point of going back for dinner during our week-long stay in Key West. For lunch we had the Yellowfin Tuna Tartar appetizer along with the complementary bread. We both ordered the Smoked Salmon sandwich for our main dish. It was served with fries and some fresh baby greens. The Yellowfin Tuna Tartar was fantastic! We both enjoyed the Smoked Salmon sandwich quite a bit. On our dinner visit we ordered Mussels in a Curry Sauce as an appetizer (there are few choices of sauces) and an Escargots appetizer served in a garlic/parsley butter. Complementary bread and butter was also brought to the table. My husband ordered the special of Hogfish with Lemon Caper Cream, Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes. I ordered the Grilled Yellowfin Tuna, which I asked for rare, served in a Ginger/sweet soy emulsion, Soba Noodles and Tempura French Beans. Wow! All of it was prepared to perfection and tasted amazing! We are still talking about this meal after landing back home. The service was top-notch, as well. Simply put, the food was super tasty. The truffle fries were crunchy and crispy, the ahi tuna was as fresh and tender to taste. The black grouper, was cook perfectly, not over cooked, with a nicely seared crust. The pasta was fresh aswell. Definitely worth visiting. This small kind of tucked in a corner on Duval spot is fan flippin tastic. Our thanksgiving dinner started w a glass of sav bland for the chick and I got a Malbec. We opened the dinner with some very large mussels (much like mine) in a crazy good curry sauce loaded w lemongrass, onion and garlic. Wish we had more bread to absorb the sauce but that would've been carbo loading. And gluttonous. I had a seafood pasta in a creamy pink sauce loaded w the aforementioned mussels, giant shrimp and some super tasty grouper. The chick had a deliciously seasoned and clearly brined bone in pork chop. The food is better than the ambiance. We ordered the Pork Chop which was out of this world tender and very flavorful. Great sides as well. My wife had the local shrimp which were also excellent. We started with the scallop special and were a little surprised at what they charged for three medium sized scallops (I believe they are somewhat local) pan seared, served with fresh corn and a nice pan sauce. 23.00. Seemed high. It also was a bit odd that they were out of or nearly out of so many drink items (my wife had her third option of local microbrew and I had the last bottle of the import that I ordered. They were reasonably busy but it was just odd as the menu is already limited so it's nice to be able to get what you want and not really sure what the issue was. No, for the ambiance issue. The restaurant is in a great location but has a fairly low ceiling and is exceptionally noisy. We had a table with three very loud couples next to us and were surrounded by a couple of other loud groups. Perhaps the ambiance would have been better if we had been seated outside. Just a few bits of advice as the food is quite good, a bit over-priced but good. read more

Always a favorite for us since we moved here last year. Our dog is welcome, and the food and service are beyond reproach. It should be a given that seafood here in Key West should always be delicious and fresh, but we have found that not to be the case in some "seafood" restaurants. Blackfin never disappoints; try the fish special, whatever it is, and you will love it. The only downside is that they do not have a full bar, so we usually stop in to a nearby bar either before or after dinner for martinis. Blackfin has a good wine selection and the servers are knowledgeable so go with their recommendations if wine is your thing. read more

I had been to a restaurant like this before in Key West. Years and years ago, I was dating a man from the Midwest who settled in the bay area. One year I was coming here to SCUBA dive and he was in Miami on a business trip. So he flew down to meet me here. As a true gentleman, he took me out for dinner and we dined under stars in a restaurant that looked like this one. It was a romance doomed to fail, due to the obvious age difference and my lack of experience in life in general, though I remembered that evening: the stars were shining and we dined outdoors in a restaurant that served similar food. I had not returned to Key West for over a decade and I was happy that the first meal in town was at Blackfin Bistro, because the seafood here was supposed to be amazing. Walking on foot from Westin, I arrived at around 9:30 PM. The restaurant had a beautiful courtyard just like the one in my memory. I asked for a seating by the heat lamp. The food here was spectacular. Seafood pasta was quite incorporated with flavor profiles not seen in the west coast. Key West shrimp appetizer was amazingly fresh. It's the local shrimp as I was told. I'd been searching for grilled octopus that could take me back to Santorini, July 2014, and I found something like it here. Different of course but delicious nonetheless. Key West has been invaded by beautiful young Ukrainian women. Our server was no exception. We chatted about Ukraine and Russia relations, the ongoing war, and her upcoming visit back to her motherland. Very intriguing. There was a film crew to the left of us. There was also a group of 10, most likely from Brooklyn, New York, judging by the accent, finishing up a pre-holiday meal. Capped the meal with brownies and ice cream. Walked out of the restaurant at 11 PM. The Caribbean trade wind had picked up. I had come back to search for a piece of missing memory, one that involved a young woman engaged to a spy and was about to start a life with someone whom she trusted completely, but something happened that year in D.C., where the spy was debriefing in Pentagon before being posted to another country, and she called off the wedding and left the east coast for good. That evening some memories resurfaced, with more yet to come. I understand why Hemingway took a liking of this town. It's mystical and magical, restaurants filled with exotic foreign imports and food from the Caribbean Sea. Do come here when you are able. It's worth your flight and drive. read more

(Note: based on a pre-lockdown visit) I had a lovely night out with the family at Blackfin Bistro after doing some research online. We were interested in something nice that: A) had outdoor seating, and B) had burgers per my daughter's request, and C) had nicer meals as well. I was also interested in a cocktail, since Yelp indicated there was a full bar here. Blackfin met our needs except the last part - ONLY BEER and WINE served here, so shame on Yelp for the misinformation. Setting - Their lovely back patio was ideal for us; we were in the shade of a large tree and had plenty of social distancing from other tables. Menu - Great variety here; and we were even able to customize one dish for a dietary restriction. I was a bit disappointed with the beer list, since they had only one good IPA on the menu. But one was all I needed. Food - We started with the mussels and escargot, which were on-point. My daughter claimed her wagyu burger was delicious. My blackened snapper in creamed curry sauce was superb. (It came with green beans and yellow rice); it was perfectly cooked and came in a sizable portion too. We finished by sharing a fantastic key lime tart. Service - The only downside. This started with a friendly greeting, but then they forgot one app (mussels) which were brought out much later, and only after we said something. And then service 'fell off a cliff' halfway through our meal, with no sign of any waitstaff for quite a long period. At the end, and after trying 10 minutes to get someone's attention, I had to go to the front to ask for our check. But the latter was a minor annoyance in an otherwise pleasant dinner. read more

THEEEEE BEST BURGER EVER. They created heaven in the form of a burger. Every bite I took put me more and more in shock that I'm eating something so delicious. We also tried the specials of the day; the shrimp bisque which was also really good, it wasn't to creamy or to lite it had a nice smooth flavor. Also the blackened swordfish was really had a great flavor. The staff was so nice and very attentive! The patio in the back was super cute & comfortable. One of our favorite places in key west. Located off Duval st , Reservations were easy to make on a Friday evening , customer service was attentive and fast. Locally owned , serving fresh seafood . we spoke to the proprietor who seemed very nice and hands on with his guests. This was my sons first time eating a wagyu burger 5/5 and unfortunately he's hooked , meat was soft and tender bread was fresh . Yellowfin tuna 5/5was very fresh and filling, came with tempura French greens and soba noodles which came out a bit cold ...not sure if that's normal but warmed up would have been nicer. The red blackened grouper 4/5 was very fresh as well , we liked that a lot of the food wasn't overly seasoned so you can taste the flavor of the fresh seafood . Amazing seafood joint. All the tuna is flown in from Hawaii and is sushi grade. . We ordered the tuna tartare delicious. Conch cakes were crisp and light. Truffle Fries were delicious with a nice fondue. Pasta carbonara was one of the best I ever had. The grilled yellow fin was amazing. Calamari appetizer was different. We stumbled across this gem while visiting Key West. On Duval street, this lovely little dining room has space for a handful of couples or two large groups. Tonight they had their seared diver scallops for an appetizer and they did not disappoint. I followed that up with their grilled yellowtail tuna while hubby had their Pinks shrimp dish sautéed with garlic and service over mashed potatoes and spinach. Our servers we super attentive. Came here for lunch today with the Mr. , it's a very nice little place. Our waitress was such a sweetheart, something about her I really liked - as it turns out she's a grade school teaching during the year! My mom was also a grade school teacher in her earlier years! :) To start I had an Arnold Palmer, something about me and Arnold Palmer's lately...it doesn't turn out how I'd expect. For example at this place, they actually don't mix the lemonade, they just squeeze lemons into your ice tea (usually I notice a hint of sweetness from the sugar but since they don't make lemonades here - I was basically just drinking ice tea with a lot of lemon flavors. Gazpacho is one of my favorite soups, and on this hot and humid day I just couldn't resist. The gazpacho was very interesting, I think there may have been a bit of cream to it, the consistency is creamy/running not chunky (which is how I like my gazpacho) with a few tomato chunks on the bottom. For those who may not know, gazpacho is a cold soup, so if you don't like cold soups you may be taken by surprise and may be disappointed. This was the first time I tried conch cake. For those, like myself, who don't know what conch taste like just think calamari/octopus. It tasted just like a crab cake until you bite into the conch. You get three patties. The Mr and I had one each and didn't touch the third, I guess conch is really an acquired taste. Then we had their famous shrimp with mash potatoes, basically prepared like a shrimp scampi on a bed of mash potatoes. It was very good! Service was so fast and efficient! Me and my wife have been coming to Blackfin Bistro for over 12 years. I think every time we come back it gets better and better. You'll never have a more perfectly cooked piece of fish anywhere else and they also have the best burgers in Key West and possibly even the entire US.
