I have been driving past this place for a few years and wanted to try it. So my wife and I stopped thru to finally give it a chance. Food was great. Way better then we expected. She has the pork chop and I had the steak. The appetizer that we got was NOT worth the money. It was the Ginger-Chili Steak tips. They were great, but 3 small steak bits are not worth $15. You can get a 16oz ribeye for $21 at the roadhouse. I do recommend this place. But I don't recommend the parking. The parking is the worst. Someone blocked us in with a big truck and we couldn't get out. So park along the street if u can find a space. Waiter was decent. Ambiance was good as well. Service was VERY slow, almost 40 minutes for drink orders. The server is very friendly. The kitchen and bar must have been backed up or short staffed because the drink, apps, and entree wait time was really long. I hope this is not the norm. Certainly not fine dining as the website suggests. The food/menu is more align with fine dining than the decor and the gift shop let on. I started with the ginger chili steak tips and they were my favorite dish of the night. They were balanced with sweet and spicy and the meat was very tender. For my entree, I had the scallops and capellini over a bed of arugula. Scallops were cooked perfectly with a hard sear and nice color. Funnily enough, they played the prettier side of each one upside down. The noodles were a bit bland when not eaten in the same bite as a scallop. A dining companion had the blue crab with capellini and it was missing a lot of crab. We asked the server if this was standard, she replied it was not and promptly fixed it. It came back with nice lumps of crab meat. My other dining companion had the mushroom Wellington, which was bursting with flavor and so creative. The fly fishing island vibe is fun and relaxing. If you can't get a table, the bar is lively and a good second seating option. We went for a light meal and drinks. They were out of the oysters special unfortunately. So we opted for the chili lime shrimp, Mexican street corn salad and tuna poke. All were delicious and just what we were looking for. This is my favorite place over the bridge in St. Augustine! I have to eat here at least once every time I'm in town. In this case, I went two nights in a row! The first night, per the recommendation of the manager, I had the dynamite salmon. Featuring Togarashi spiced nori wrapped salmon mignon and topped with a spicy crab aioli, tempura fried sushi cake, wilted spinach and finished off with an avocado-wasabi mousse. This entire experience reminded me of my favorite sushi place in Charlotte but BETTER! Every single bite was delicious and I look forward to trying it again!! The second night I tried their pizza. I was not disappointed in that either. I ordered the Mediterranean featuring olives, spinach, roasted red peppers, artichoke and goat cheese. Also another dish that was worth every bite. I would be willing to be that everything is good on their menu. They have a huge selection of whiskey and bourbons, so if that is your thing...check em' out! GROSS. My husband's second draft beer had a huge booger/loogey in it and when it was brought to the attention of the wait staff, they never apologized or even offered to comp him a beer. When our $250 check came, we had to ask for the manager for the courtesy of comping the disgusting beer situation. When the manager came over 10+ minutes later, he said, "haha I heard you got some special sauce in your beer", which we had not found especially funny. Their explanation was that the tap lines sometimes get corroded, again... gross. So they reduced our bill by $7.50. One of our party ordered the most expensive thing on the menu (lobster MacnCheese), which was fine but when ordered, asked it they could sub a different side for the ciabatta toast, which was denied. Then when the entree came, it was absent ciabatta toast, so that had to be requested. We're a pretty low maintenance crowd, but we won't be back. read more

Located just outside of downtown St Augustine this is a solid choice for upscale tasty food and great service. Super attentive server Matt offered menu direction based on our questions- and he was spot on. Food - Mexican corn salad - outstanding - spinach Mexican street corn tortilla chips red onions and some great Chao risotto vinaigrette and a ranch crema sauce were the perfect foils for beach other. Chili lime shrimp - great flavors. Dinner was the scallops with capellini - scallops cooked perfectly and salmon topped with crab was delicious. I visited this place three years ago. It was just as horrendous as it was tonight. They do not have the capacity serve a number of people I ordered conch fritters and it's been 40 minutes. Brought some family from Canada for what turned out to be a phenomenal dinner. Started with a citrus basil martini. Very basil-y just as I hoped, great blend of flavors. Got conch fritters, the most authentic and delicious in town served with a datil remoulade, as well as a great spin on a artichoke dip to start. Three of us ordered the surf and turf fried rice and we're blown away. The other three split two pizzas and salads (added anchovy to the Caesar was a great touch) and even had some left over! Finished with ice cream, creme brûlée, and bread pudding and could not have been happier. By far the best part of the night though was our server, Daniel I think his name was? Tried to order the scallops and was told that was not the correct choice so changed my order to the blue crab pasta which was great, 3 apps and 2 entrees and 2 drinks for 125 dollars i felt was a great deal for a nice date night. WTF, why don't they take ownership of this business on Yelp! So I have driven across the country 3,300 miles from Seattle, WA to St Augustine, Fl. We have been i. st augustine since 11/1/2022. TMI okay. This restaurant is above the bar for Florida in general. But with my ridiculous picky palette. The filet (tenderloin) med rare was perfectly cooked and seasoned perfectly. The vegetables were asparagus and tomatoes but were perfect cooked as well. This is an excellent place for a meal! The decaf coffee was delicious. Coconut key lime pie was great. Banana bread pudding was just average, but the caramel was out of this world. Add a vanilla ice cream with caramel and you are on another planet! Excellent server Ireland did a great job and was very friendly and took great care of us. Order a lobster tail broiled with the tenderloin cooked med rare. Add the truffle butter (on the side of course) and you will be able to add flavor to the perfectly prepared but unflavored mashed potatoes. If you appreciate this review let me know. This establishment came up on a few local lists so decided to try it. Their website says fine dining and pics look somewhat upscale (hubs said they must have hired an amazing photographer and website designer) but it's casual at best. When you walk in, first thing you see is beach themed souvenirs and tshirts with their logo. The restaurant is quite eclectic with interesting artwork and fish on the walls. It has a separate bar area, but we choose a booth in the main dining area. Our young waiter was very polite and professional, nice to see these days! The drinks were both unfortunately not the best. My jalapeño cucumber drink did not seem like it was prepared by a bartender (which the waiter removed from the bill) and my husbands Hefeweizen was just average. When our server asked if we wanted bread service, I didn't realize it was an extra $3 charge on the bill. Not worth it. Although the bread was average, the garlic butter was pretty good... and ended up saving my dinner (more on that in a minute). I ordered the Sea Scallops Aglio e Olio (6 Seared Sea Scallops, Capellini Pasta Tossed In Olive Oil, Sliced Garlic, & Herbs, Topped With Arugula, Shaved Parmesan, & Garlic Bread). The sea scallops were just barely cooked enough, although could have used another 30seconds on the skillet. The pasta was cooked well but lacked flavor and needed anything on the table, which was salt, pepper, and my saving grace... the left over garlic butter from the bread. Once added, much better. My husband ordered the Datil Pepper Linguica (Caribbean Twist On Bangers & Mash, Grilled Portuguese Style Sausage, Blended With Local Datil Peppers, Served With Mashed Potatoes, Vegetables, & Chimichurri). The sausage was AMAZING but the potatoes tasted like potato flakes out of a box and the veggies lacked flavor, no sign of chimichurri sauce or taste. The place was pretty busy but service was good throughout. Since the meals weren't a hit, we opted not to have dessert. My answer to the magic question for this establishment is ... no, we will not return again. The 3 star rating was a combination of everything which was slightly below average except for the service and the sausage. Calamari was tender and served with bel pepper and artichoke hearts mixed in. It was a nice addition. We had beef short ribs and chicken parmigiana(which was a one time special). The short ribs were fork tender and well seasoned. So good. The mashed potatoes were homemade and buttery. The fresh green beans were delicious. Done but not overdone. Well seasoned with button mushrooms. The chicken parmigiana was juicy and had a spicy marinara. Maybe could use a bit more salt in the breading but still awesome. The ice tea was fresh brewed and delicious. I drank so much! Dessert was a strawberry pistachio cupcake with cream cheese icing. Doesn't sound good but it worked well together. First of all BlackFly needs a major update. Floors look outdated, light figures looks outdated and the seats or booth look very outdated. The decor overall is just not fitting. But if you are just here to eat and don't care about the restaurant let me tell you the food will not wow you. The blistered peppers were good but it lacked a little bit of salt. The sauce it came in was spicy which was good and too overpowering. The pork shoulder was very tender and melted in your mouth but the veggies and the mashed potatoes had zero flavor and I just left them. I would also have appreciated if there was a bit more meat and less of these tasteless veggies. The service was a bit slow but not too slow. When we were seated we sat there for sometime before someone came to see us but after it was not too bad. I think with few tweaks the place can actually be a lot better. read more

Blackfly is too small. The bar area is too small. Steaks are good. They don't put gravy on a filet like some other restaurants in the island.
