A friend had recommended I go to Blacklock for a Sunday Roast, so I made a reservation at this location.
After entering, you go down a set of stairs into the dining area which was dark but lively.
I ordered the Sunday beef roast. It arrived fairly quickly. I had different thoughts about each item on my plate:
- Roast beef: OK. I noticed my server didn't ask my doneness preference. It came medium, which is OK, but would have preferred medium-rare. I found a couple of bites dry.
- Yorkshire: Good. Very large.
- Vegetables: Very good. This was the surprise for me as I enjoyed the vegetables more than the beef.
- Gravy: Excellent. The gravy is what pulls everything together to make it a great meal. It covered up the slight disappointment in the beef.
Service was good but nothing memorable.
Overall, I'm glad I got to try my first Sunday Roast. It was a very homely meal where the gravy alone made the whole plate delicious. I can see why it is popular. read more
