    5* Burger
    Doug B.

This places waffles back and forth between 5* and 4*. Tonight was a 5* night. Thanks to our waitress, Lana, who made it an awesome experience despite being packed on the patio. So, wow, I have had their burger many times and tonight was superb. I added bacon and it was perfectly cooked. The bun held together on the bottom despite the patty being very juicy and full of flavor. Loved it! I liked the fries, they were crunchy and tasty. I love their sweet chili sauce (try it on the wings!) and had it on the side for both the burger and fries. So good! Love the front patio for such a beautiful night. Give them a try.

Nice ambience & good live music. This is the perfect place for socializing. The bar service was good! Unfortunately the prime rib and salmon were overcooked. The prime rib was the biggest sin, it was tough as leather. The shrimp were also under-seasoned, but the texture was good. The oysters were delicious! I found that everything else was similar to a regular buffet. Overall it's decent, but I was disappointed by the food.

I came in with co-workers for dinner. Originally there was confusion when they sat us at the table and we did not have a server for a while until we reached out to the hostess. When we finally got our waitress, she was super friendly and attentive. The decor and views for the restaurant is beautiful. The food was okay and fairly priced. The shrimp and grits was pretty good, juicy shrimp; the flounder was good, though it could've used a little more seasoning; the French onion soup was just alright it wasn't as hot as expected, even with the melted cheese on top; the crab dip was rich, flavorful, and served flaming, which was a nice touch; te seafood salad was decent, but the dressing felt a bit on the heavy side; the Brussel sprouts lacked flavor and was not cooked all the way through; the drinks were refreshing and tasted great. They do have a happy hour, but it's only available if you sit in the bar area. There is a pay, parking structure below the restaurant. Overall, it was pretty decent. Beautiful place for dinner.

The appetizer Brussels Sprouts were fantastic, so was the crab dip. Everyone enjoyed their meal, tge restaurant was nicely decorated and the staff and management were friendly, we would gladly go back. Their homemade pasta was very good, so was the Risotto and Branzino(sp?) and Chicken, over all a very enjoyable meal cooked perfectly

I had high expectations for this restaurant but it was just okay. Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable of everything. She did great with our large group and lots of questions. The crab cake sandwich was all I was in the mood for and it was okay. My friend loved the shrimp and scallop rissoto. The crab dip however, was really good. However, they said it came flaming (like a whole presentation), but we didn't get that part. No big deal, because it was delicious! Overall, it was okay.

Stopped by for some nice ambiance and some good cocktails. This place is beautiful, wasn't my first time visiting so I was a bit familiar with h the environment. The restaurant seems pretty big-with two levels however, I've never been to the second level. The service is impeccable, I didn't have to ask one thing. The servers/bartenders and man all seem to be on the same page. My server named song-who was also the bartender was and is excellent!!!!! He makes the best drinks and he's quick with it. I really liked how the staff was working as a team. Even the managers were working hard and lending a helping hand which is something you rarely see nowadays. Everyone was so pleasant and worked with a smile. Every single employee that passed my table asked if things were okay or if anything was needed The ambiance is beautiful!!! The outdoor seating was closed due to the weather but the view was still present.... I ordered what I believe was called "The fisherman's catch". The platter came with Salmon, 2 stuffed shrimp a crab cake and 2 sides. I chose green beans and mashed potatoes. The food didn't take long and arrived looking marvelous... The green beans were so good that I think I finished them before I touched anything else--well I did taste a little bit of mashed potatoes once my plate was sat down and they were good but they were lukewarm. The salmon was cooked to perfection and so was the crab cake I didn't care too much for the crab cake. The crab cake seemed to have too much breading for my liking. I guess I'm spoiled by the MD lump/jumbo lump crab cakes. don't think the menu said lump crab-only says Maryland crab cake. The flavor was there but I wouldn't order it again. I had chill wings to go which smelled amazing-however they were breaded and didn't hold up well overnight. (My fault).... Last but not least-I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake which was amazing..... It arrived with a side of caramel and a side of whipped cream. I like those place it's not too dark and not too bright. It had a good vibe and everyone seems to work hard. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in Old Town looking for a nice spot to dine. Shout out to my server Song-I hope I spelled it right!!! lol

Well, it's been a minute since I've been to this Blackwall Hitch, but my partner and I returned to celebrate two of our friends birthdays. I was hoping it was better than my last visit, and it was. There was a band playing, which set a nice vibe. They had the usual far of spectacular brunch food, but we did notice something. The usual unlimited mimosa option was gone. And, it was likely for the best. That may have been all the difference at this location. If so, it worked. I had my favorite, waffles, and they did not disappoint! The bacon was TOP TIER! Thin, crispy and perfect. The red velvet cupcakes were divine. My partner had the oysters and thought they were tasty. I usually don't have the oysters at brunch because they seem to be.... I don't know, lower quality with no brine. But she said they had a slight brine to them and were good. We did have a few mimosas, the pineapple and mango. They were decent. Omar, our server, needed help, but he kept trying to get it right. For the most part, it was a good brunch. Nobody had any major issues. FYI, the gratuity is built in.

Came for happy hour on a Friday afternoon and had no problem getting a seat at the bar. The place is huge and we had a nice side view of the river from our seats. We each ordered the happy hour old fashioned which was pretty good. The food was good but both items felt like it was missing something to make it great. Crispy Brussels- nice crisp to them and the bites of salty pancetta were a nice touch. These felt like they needed a sauce or dip though. We liked them better when paired with garlic aioli or the chili sauce that came with the calamari. calamari- good flavor and the fried peppers added a spicy kick. Suggest asking for a side of remoulade to go with these. The calaMari rings could have been a little crispier for our liking but overall we enjoyed this dish.

Came for my mom's bday dinner and they were great. Our waitress was very attentive and present. I ordered the swordfish and it was seasoned very well and it had mashed potatoes and Brussel sprout that I liked but they were a little heavy with the horseradish I think. We had crab dip and calamari and that was all very good as well. My husband had some wings and they really are jumbo! And the lister and crab soup which basically tasted like minestrone soup. I would return.

The server was very busy and overwhelmed. He was pretty rude when we first arrived, but he did apologize and changed as the night progressed which was nice. There was a private party in the upstairs area using a microphone that was VERY loud. It was difficult to hear the people at my table and have any conversation. We had 4 people in my party and only 1 person enjoyed their entree. We had the crab cakes, swordfish, salmon and the lambshank. All of the seafood was overcooked and dry. It seamed precooked and reheated. Nothing was fresh. The Washington state oysters were delicious. Food did come out very fast. The manager came around and we expressed our concerns. He thanked us but made no efforts to make anything better. The women's bathroom was dirty, paper towels were empty, liquid on the floors, toilet paper rolls on the floor with no holder for it. I would not return.

Amazing! This was a great birthday celebration for my Mom. We made a reservation for 8 people the day prior, with no issues and had an amazing and tentative server. It has that upscale casual dining feel with an open vibe on the water in Old Town. We ordered an assortment of dishes as well as the special. 9/10 across the board - the crab stuffed rockfish was the best thing I've tasted in while, the Brussels sprouts and Mac were delicious but the special (whole filleted branzino) needed some doctoring. Our cocktails weren't consistent - we ordered the Habanero Passion - good on the first round but had to be sent back on the 2nd. Definitely a good place to chat, grab food and a cocktail with a serene view of the Potomac

I liked this restaurant. I thought that it had a cool atmosphere and was nicely decorated. The food was decent, although I would probably try something different next time. I had the special for the day seafood combination. It was basic. The shrimp and grits didn't disappoint though. The service was friendly. 4 Stars

This is my first time to this great restaurant, and my eight year old niece was with us. We were quickly seated, and we were to request the chicken tenders child's meal quickly, which resulted in a happy child. My friend has a gluten allergy, and we were assured this was not a problem. The menu is large, and it has a large selection of a great variety of dishes. My friend opted for the crab stuffed rockfish, and I had the braised short rib cresto di gallo (a pasta shape I have never even heard of!). My friend also ordered a side salad as a starter, and salad was large with several different t vegetables including carrots, cucumbers, and different lettuces. The mains were incredible, though mine was huge!!!! The pasta was a perfect al dente, and it was filled with tender and flavorful short rib, mushrooms, carrots, and a succulent sauce. My friend's rockfish was beyond beautiful. The rice and corn mixture it sat on was a perfect accompaniments for the flaky fish. My niece's chicken tenders were a hit with a great coating and lots of French fries. We ordered desserts, and this is where some comedy came in. My niece ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream. The kitchen found a gluten free chocolate torte with cinnamon ice cream, and I had the peach and blueberry cobbler with cinnamon ice cream. What came to our table were five desserts, as we were brought full servings (three scoops) of vanilla and cinnamon ice cream in addition to the torte, chocolate cake, and cobbler. The torte also came with a single scoop of cinnamon ice cream. So much dessert! We should have clarified the order. Most of the ice cream was consumed, but there was still some waste. It was a great meal.

The Saffron P.E.I. Mussels were flavorful and comforting, and the Charred Jumbo Prawns had such a great smoky flavor. For entrees, the Lobster Pot Pie was rich and hearty in the best way, and the Pan Roasted Bronzino was beautifully prepared and balanced. The Steak Frites were also excellent--simple, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Especially in the winter time with the white lights lining King St outside. Tonight, we had an amazing meal prepared by Chef Tony. We started with their fried oysters on top of apple slaw and their potato and leek soup. The soup was piping hot with small hush puppy style croutons inside served in a beautiful bowl. It was delicious too! I don't even like oysters, but I liked these. Next came the Betty's buns and beet salad. The beet salad is such an interesting preparation with ricotta, raw and cooked beets, some herbs, orange segments and pistachios. I really enjoyed the brightness of the dish. And who doesn't love a good warm bun with butter? The entrees were really beautifully plated and delicious too. The catfish was our favorite with a delicious broth, poured table-side. I've never had a bison steak before - but this one was perfectly cooked with cippolini onions, chimichurri and sweet potatoes. The plating on everything was absolutely gorgeous. And for dessert - a spongy apple cider cake and creamy chocolate cremeux. I don't even like apples, but this cake was amazing. It had beautiful accompaniments as well. And the chocolate cremeux was served with beautifully poached pears and cranberries. We loved both. Our waiter kept our water glasses full, knew all the details about the menu and was so pleasant and prompt. Absolutely love it here!!!

I brought my…read morehusband here on his birthday because we had an amazing experience two years ago with a thoughtful menu, delicious bites and cocktails that were well explained. It seemed like the server was very busy tonight (which I understand because it's restaurant week) but we got no explanation of anything on the menu, getting a drink order took about 15 minutes for my husband, and worst of all when I ordered the wine pairing none of the wines came out before or with the courses and nothing was explained at all about what I was drinking. Not even a quick, this is a Cabernet Sauvignon. I was shocked! How do you have a wine pairing where you just fling down a glass of wine and run away? So I had a little blind taste testing with no answers. The food didn't even compare to the last time we came. Everything was fine, but nothing I would return for. We had the beet salad, the acorn squash salad, the short ribs, the bison steak, and some sort of chocolate dessert with pears in it. I had explained some food allergies and although the final receipt had those allergies marked, the dessert came out covered with one of my allergens and I had to notice, chase them down to tell them then wait and get it replaced, which they were very nice about but made me concerned that everything else I've been eating might've not have been safe. Again, last time I was here I felt completely fine afterwards and they were very on top of avoiding cross contamination for my celiac disease. Ultimately, I wouldn't come back here -- I was so disappointed at the experience when I really wanted a special night for my husband's birthday. I was shocked that this was recently named one of the top 50 restaurants in NOVA and had so many positive recent reviews. What am I missing? Majestic café, Josephine, Thompson's Italian are all tastier options a short walk away.

I called ahead and spoke with Todd, who was incredibly kind and accommodating for our party of five. When we arrived, Todd greeted us and seated us right away. He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the options looked amazing and tempting! Todd came by our table to check in, which added such a personal touch. The ambiance was lovely, and as we were leaving, Todd walked us outside and spent a few moments chatting with us--it truly meant a lot. Todd and Alison made our experience at The Oaks unforgettable, along with the incredible food. Thank you both--we hope to see you again soon! --SoCal Visitors

Lots of wood and dark colors. Great service from Shawn. We tried the Ribeye and NY Strip. Both were ok. Not much seasoning. Lots of marbling. Both had significant sections of fat. For me, wasn't the best cut for either. Both were ok steaks. We had the fries and cream corn. The fries are made with a beef fat. Tasty. The cream corn has a lot of cheese on top and throughout (see pic). That wasn't a favorite for me. Was more like a mac and cheese. Pricing was for a Ruth Chris experience but fell flat on delivery. As an example, went to The Wharf a few days later and had their NY strip, with crab cake, and sides all for the same price. It was a much superior cut of steak and the flavors were fantastic.

However, I noticed that the…read moreprinted receipt reflected the mathematically correct total, while the bill presented for signature increased the amount by two cents. When I asked about the discrepancy, I was told the systems sometimes differ by a few cents. The adjustment was made when I requested to pay the correct total, but the response suggested that questioning "only two cents" was unreasonable. My concern was never the amount; it was the principle. When a customer is shown one accurate total and then asked to authorize a higher one without explanation, it creates the appearance of taking money that was not part of the stated charge. If I may add my two cents as a former patron and frequent restaurant guest: trust matters in a dining experience. Even a few unexplained pennies raise a reasonable question--if this occurs repeatedly throughout the day, where do those extra cents go? A couple of cents from one guest, a few more from another, eventually add up. Transparency in billing prevents that concern. When a discrepancy is presented without a clear explanation and a patron is made to feel foolish for asking about it, it leaves a bad taste, regardless of how enjoyable the meal may have been.

We waited over an hour just to get drinks. And the staff were too stupid to pitch in and help each other. The entire staff including the managers should be replaced. Our food only arrived after being seated for 90 min. Atmosphere was decent, old 18th century decor with cheaply framed reproductions tacked in the wall that are crooked, but the food was uninspired and unappetizing. The strip steak I had was thinner than the sole of most shoes and 30% gristle. The fries had wilted by being steamed under the warming tray. The "melody veg" was mostly undercooked cauliflower. Wait staff were entirely too busy taking care of other tables, and we saw lots of other food orders going out before ours showed up. People who came in after us - had food before we did. I got no water. No bread. No glass for my bottled beer/drink which was $12.00. We had to as for a glass three times for my beer before one was given. At that point, I was hotter under the collar than my plate of food. Only redeeming part of the meal was a bowl of peanut soup. I grade this experience a solid "F." Don't even accept an invitation here, make excuses to go elsewhere or get away even. It's not cheap, it's not a fair value, the service is abysmal, and you don't get a decent feeling of atmosphere from that period of history. Seats were uncomfortable, and not sturdy. No one with impairments nor the disabled should attempt the main entrance door. In fact, they will likely find the restaurant to can't be navigated. Bottom Line: Ugh. Not worth it.

The restaurant was empty except for one table and we were told the wait was because they were prepping for a large party that was coming in at 1:30. That's fine but no excuse for us to wait so long. Service was not great either, as we felt rushed to order and the server was too busy prepping the big table. I got the peanut soup and my husband got the William Caton Burger medium temp. He got a well done burger. Not sure how this could be considered fine dining as it was subpar, at best. At least my drink was good.

We were celebrating an old friend's birthday, so I wanted a special evening. We went to the Signature to see "Safety Not Guaranteed" which was so good and so much fun. Then on to dinner at Carlyle in Shirlington. Carlyle always pumps out some of the most satisfying meals. You are almost guaranteed to love what the kitchen presents you with. This event was no different. I started with the crab & corn chowder. Thick, luxurious, savory perfection! My main course was Jambalaya Pasta which was outstanding. The chicken was moist, the shrimp was perfectly prepared and the andouille sausage added a perfect piquant note. The creamy sauce finished a great dish. There was so much that I could not eat it all (and I usually eat everything that is placed in front of me). But the best - the ABSOLUTE BEST - part of the evening was our perfect server Sebastian. He was professional, friendly, fast, funny, helpful and everything you want in a server. Plus, he did it all with one of the best personalities that I have ever come across in a server. At one point, we were all laughing so hard, that he had to sit down because he was ready to fall over. He served us, yes! But more than that - he ENTERTAINED US!!!! How often has that ever happened to you??? It is a night that I will not soon forget! Sebastian is a smart guy who will no doubt go far in his life. But, for now, for right now, he is at the top of his game at Carlyle! If you love Carlyle, you will absolutely LOVE Sebastian. Please ask to be placed in his station. I promise he will not disappoint you. Thank you, Sebastian, for making my evening wonderful and for making my BFF's birthday dinner a stunning success, thanks to you!!!! I highly recommend Carlyle - and especially Sebastian - to one and all!

As an Old Town resident for the past 15 years, I've always included Hank's Oyster Bar - Alexandria in my short list of favorite restaurants when friends and family visit. Happily, we were able to book a table for five, and we had a perfectly wonderful meal there the night before the concert. We started with a dozen fresh oysters for the table - 1/2 dozen Salty Wolfe Oysters ($23), shown as Hank's own proprietary oyster from the Lower Chesapeake, Virginia, along with 1/2 dozen Chef's Selection of the freshest East Coast oysters on the half shell ($22). The five of us around the table all tucked into some of the best oysters ever. The table ordered fish and chips (Old Bay seasoned fries, Cole slaw, $24), two of us ordered oyster po'boys ($21), one had the Ceasar salad ($14; add: (3) shrimp $8, oysters $8, salmon $16, or crab cake $18), and I had the New England clam chowder with bacon ($12) and a small plate of steamed PEI mussels with grilled crostini ($21). Don't let the description mislead you - this small plate of nicely seasoned mussels was large and when coupled with the soup made a perfect meal. Service was friendly, well-informed about the menu items, and prompt without ever feeling rushed. As always, breaking bread at Hank's is a treat.

We both ordered the fish and chips, and honestly not bad. The fish was seasoned really well without being overly salty, the fries were solid too, and overall it made for a satisfying lunch. I also tried the mango ginger sparkler, which was refreshing too. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a solid lunch option. Parking can be a little tricky with the construction nearby, but there's underground parking at the Sheraton across the street if needed.
