Showed up to house to provide an estimate for fixing a casement window. Removed hardware from the window. Disappeared for many months without returning said hardware, nor providing estimate for replacement of the hardware. Despite effort to reach them on myriad of occasions during that four month period, they chose not to return phone calls- techs, management and the owner alike, couldn't be troubled to call back. Can't get the window fixed easily with another company now because they need the hardware (that Blaine still has in their possession) so that they can order new parts. read more

Blaine's service was very good, personable and informed - so I trusted them. I wanted a very specific repair to some old windows and they delivered what i needed. What else do you look for? Well, they also told me what i didn't need to spend money on, and gave me an estimate for a bigger job that i probably wont do. It was a very honest interaction and b/c of that I will use them again. But the two front guys attitudes plain out suck. Especially when they're together. It's like they feed off each other. From their slumped body language to their barely audible voices... I am very surprised at the other reviews on here. I sold a rental property in DC and needed a screen prior to closing. I had called no less than 5 other window repair businesses and Blaine was the only one who could accommodate the job rapidly. I took an non-conventional sized screen from my condo to Blaine and within 15 minutes, they reproduced a screen for me at the most reasonable price. It was one-third the price of another vendor. The phone was answered quickly, a quote given to me right over the phone and I showed up less than an hour later and I had the screen installed just a few minutes later. Granted, this is a small job but I was completely satisfied with the job they performed for me. The screen fit perfectly. read more

I recently had a window broken by a trespasser. I google a numbers or window repair and contacted Blaine. They answered and scheduled an estimate for approximately 2 weeks later due to a busy time for them. I ended up having to tape cardboard to my window for the next 2 months to keep out the cold and snow. I didn't hear back from them for an estimate and it had been several weeks. When I called they told me to call back in a week and even took them a bit to find my file. Eventually I had to call back a few times even to get the estimate to tell them "yes, fix my window" (keep in mind I have a broken window in the middle of winter!!!) Then of course it takes several weeks to order, I understand that. The lack of follow up and concern that I received front Blain was horrible. I'm sure they could be a great company and do really well... but not with this lack of customer service and sales reps following up on accounts. We had a great experience with Rob from Blaine Window, who came out in the middle of a storm to replace our Andersen Window. He had the part he needed in his truck and in a matter of minutes had taken our window apart, replaced the piece, reassembled everything and was finished. The day of, after not receiving the promised call ahead, I had to call several times to be told my appointment was upcoming. This company came on the day they were supposed to, and did the work they were supposed to. Simply based on those facts I've given them 4 stars. However, the scheduling is strange - they will NOT give you a time frame to be there, just the # you are in the technician's day. I was supposed to be 4th call, with each of the earlier calls lasting 1-2 hours. I estimated an afternoon appointment. But, the technician called me at 10:30am and said he was on his way. He kindly agreed to meet me at my house in half an hour and it worked out fine. He was courteous, knowledgeable and did a good job. He also cleaned up after himself as best he could (there were still tiny bits of putty and glass I had to carefully clean up). It was also quite expensive ($400+ for 3 window panes and 1-2 hours of work). But, we got our 3 broken window panes replaced within 2 business days of my initial call and everything went pretty smoothly! read more

This company came highly recommended from a couple of friends. I used them because they were local and I wanted quality work. I had a foggy window. A tech came to measure it and took my order. About six weeks later the glass was ready and a tech returned and had it fixed in about 20 minutes. I think it was repaired well. The cost was reasonable. My only complaint was how long it took to receive the glass to make the repair. However, it was the holiday season and I believe the glass manufacturer closed for a week during the holidays. Customer service was always very helpful when I called for information. I think you just have to be patient when it comes to windows. read more

I honestly have no idea where all these one-star raters are coming from. We found Blaine through our property manager. (They've done tons of windows and doors in our condo complex.) Blaine did an absolutely fantastic job replacing our glass doors. We had no trouble scheduling our appointments and they even found and repaired a leak we'd been trying to find and fix for years. Then, when we had a small problem with the door handle a year after installation, they came out and fixed it for free. Yeah, we had to wait for the doors to get ordered and for parts. (Welcome to home ownership!) Very happy and would definitely recommend them to others. read more

They assume the only time of value is theirs, and that it's an honor to waste time waiting for them in an information vacuum. So, if you're looking for ways to kill time, they are your company. Blaine Window took months to schedule an install. They would show up without an appointment. We would received conflicting information from every Blaine representative we spoke with. Many phone calls were never returned, and the product was cheap and did not match the original windows. We chose Blain Window because they were initially slightly cheaper than the other companies that quoted the replacement windows. Blain promised to replace original Windows with nearly identical Windows as the originals. However, the Windows that they installed were made with very cheap plastic and the actual windows portion (daylight) was 20% smaller than the original windows and they had a extremely flimsy plastic border around them. This was a major problem, because two of the Windows that Blaine replaced were located in our sunroom, and the difference size and quality of the new windows was very noticeable. After months of calling, we were able to finally get a manager to our house to view our issues. The Blaine manager acknowledged that it was a "bad" job, and he promised that he would fix the problem. We even offered to pay for the difference in material if they would replace the sunroom Windows. We figured that this was "fair" since they were the cheapest estimate to begin with, the manager promised to give us credit for the original "bad" install. When we finally received the quote, it was significantly higher (more than double) the highest original quote that we had received. There did not seem to be any "credit" applied. To top things off, we are now having problems with the other 3 windows that Blaine replaced. These windows, were also much cheaper in quality then the original windows. The cheap plastic boarder around these windows has become loose and now blocks the window from opening properly. read more

This is a company that is best described as "Jekyll and Hyde." We have used them in the past and had a positive experience, but most recently an awful experience. They estimated a job for a healthy amount, which we paid. However, on the day of the installation they forgot one part and incorrectly installed two others. In order to remedy their mistake they insisted on charging us for another service call, over $100. When we tried to point out that it was through no fault of our own that we still had inoperable windows the company would not budge. As other consumers have noted, it really is sad that a small business would risk its reputation because of shoddy workmanship and poor customer service. read more

Stay away!! I called Blaine to come out and give us a quote for a single window repair. Simple job. One double-paned panel of glass in a standard sized window. They show up, measure and then present me with a $65 "estimate" charge. Now, this in of itself is not unreasonable.... although I was irritated that they didn't mention it on the phone when I made the appointment. But, hey, a lot of companies have estimate fees, so what the heck, benefit of the doubt right? The tech told me they were "fast" at getting back to people - 48 to 72 hours. Made sense, its a simple job, shouldn't take that long. Eager to get my window replaced - it is WINTER - I agreed to the charge. A week later.... i have no estimate, they have no idea when they will provide one, can't explain why its taken so long, the job is stuck in some kind of pricing department, they claim they'll look into it but no one ever calls me back with any updates. I was not surprised to find that this place only had 2.5 stars on yelp; I actually thought it might be lower. The quality of their customer service - as others have noted - is appallingly bad. Whatever you do, do not go into this business if you need to be out in a hurry. If you go in and there is another person or, god forbid, two people in front of you, you will be waiting a LONG..... time to get helped. It's actually kind of bizarre. When you walk in there, there will be at least one or two guys behind the counter. No one will acknowledge you. You'd expect them to at least say, "hello" or "we'll be with you shortly have a seat or something." Nope. Nothing. And they are slow as molasses. They will also take phone calls and look shit up in books and whatnot while you're standing there waiting. Today I go in and neither guy acknowledges me with so much as a hello. There's one person in line. I've come prepared with a newspaper because I know the drill. So I take a seat and wait. About 30 minutes go by and the one customer leaves and the salesperson starts dealing with someone on the phone and opening books. Here we friggin go! Finally, I look at the second guy who's tooling around behind the desk doing god knows what and I say, pointing: is he the only person waiting on customers today. The guy says "oh, what can I help you with." Are you kidding me?!! You were available to help, yet you ignored me for 30 friggin minutes while I sat in the chair and read the paper. You think maybe I was homeless and needed a place to spend some time? Or maybe I just wanted to cool off in the blaine window store while I was passing through the area? I've been in this place four times and every single time it's nearly the same experience. I have no complaints about the quality of the work but the customer service gets an F-. Similar to other reviewers. Very , very ...sloooow. They will charge you up front and if the part is not in stock it will take likely over a month to come in. It took 20 days for them to schedule the instal and when they went out they only did 1 if the 3 things that I was charged for. Someone ordered the wrong part. Don't bother emailing them- I never got a response. They communicate with the techs via paperwork and walkie talkies. It's always "the purchase manager is gone for the day" or "the service manager is in the field" or "I can't do anything to help you sir". Maybe a UMD student can intern there and bring them into the 21st century- introduce computers and cell phones and the eliminate their reliance on the Pony Express (Blaine appears to be their 1 loyal customer)for ordering and messaging. 1 star for fixing one lock. Minus 1 star for Stone Age technology. Another minus 1 star for not getting the work done. Repair of window had to be redone by another company. Paid $300 and the window flew up after they replaced balancers, wouldn't stay down unless latched. Latch required a screwdriver to make work. Second window they said was fine but it was extremely hard to open and close. Second company fixed everything for $180. Also, they need to update the way they do business, have to mail out contract and have you sign and mail back before they order parts. This place is seriously the pits. Unfortunately, I was stuck with them because when I bought my house, the seller's agent contracted with them to fix a window that they were required to fix before the sale. That was in September. It's January, and the window still has not been fixed. They were paid months ago for work they have not completed. These folks have major issues with communicating with customers and reliably following through with appointments. On two separate occasions, they emailed with appointment dates. Once, they came 10 days before the scheduled date and told me they had erroneously emailed the wrong date. Then, they again emailed an incorrect date and did not show on the scheduled date. They don't respond to emails. They called a third time and told me a date and time. I rearranged my schedule to make sure we could get the repair done at 8AM as scheduled, and when they didn't show again, I called to find out why, and was told they would come some time mid afternoon. Their customer service is completely unacceptable. They're supposed to finally come later this week. I'm hoping the 4th time is a charm, but I'm not holding my breath... read more

I see from the reviews that I'm not the only victim of the bait/switch routine, I should have consulted Yelp before hiring them - what was I thinking! And SLOW is the name of the game. I couldn't find anyone to fix the top balances on my window (a 10" job that after witnessing I probably could have done myself). I asked the office about how much it would be - she said it would only cost for service and parts so would be a small job, and they could come out for $65 to look at it and that would apply to the work. So I did - took about a week to get them to come look at it. The person was nice and confirmed it was the top balances and that it would cost a total of around $100 so after the $65 I would have to pay an additional $50 or so - would I like to move forward to the official quote and get things scheduled. Sure. A week later I get the quote, for $211!!!!!!!!! I called to see where the error was (the error was clearly my using them). I was told there is a "minimum" labor charge of $146 plus parts. I asked why I was told it would be a total around $100 but was now double that, and they hemmed and hawed that must have been a "misunderstanding". Nope - I asked first before scheduling and then during the "estimate" - was never told of this "minimum" and was given a totally different amount during the "estimate." I mean really, why is the estimate done if you're not given the correct amount? So - I was already in for $65 (clearly extortion - so they don't tell you the "real" cost up front, but get you to tie up $65 so you will follow through with the outrageous increase they spring on you - then act like it was your fault you didn't know! Unethical if not illegal). Another week after I sent back the quote and they said they could "schedule", which was about another week - I was told he would come mid morning, came after lunch time. So it was over a month from beginning to end - the tech (who was very nice and professional) was here about 10" and Blaine got $211 for a job I was initially quoted at around $100. This is no way to do business - when someone asks "how much will this cost" - it's a simple answer. But they obviously play this game on purpose since no one would agree to have them come and for a 10" fix for $211 - so they hide the info, give you a low quote, then spring it on you after they have your "non-refundable" estimate dollars - for an estimate they don't use. Horrible, horrible customer service. I needed a new screening door for my balcony. It's been over a month that they send someone to take the measurement and I still don't have an estimate from them. Every time I called to ask for the status they say that the estimate department it's working on it. On top of everything I had to pay the guy $65 to come to my house for the measurement and I have 90 days to do any service from them and use that $65 towards the services. The customer service at Blaine Window Repair Service is terrible. I'm surprised they are still in business! Our sliding glass door lock and screen was broken. A representative from Blaine Window came out to the house to inspect the problem but didn't fix it and said they would be in-touch. About one MONTH later, we finally get a phone call after us calling Blaine repeatedly to find out when they can fix the door, they call us one month later and say "we can schedule you for January", which was a month out from their call to set up an appointment. So two months after the initial guy came out, I get a phone call from Blaine Window saying "I'll be at your house in 5-minutes". Are you kidding me? 5-minutes?!?!?! Blaine Window did not give me a time when they would be at my house at all just a date. So I'm expected to sit home from work all day and wait for a tech to come out? Terrible customer service...So the second guy finally comes out two-months after the first one came out to the house and he replaces the screen door but then says, "oops, we ordered the wrong door lock". Reading the negative reviews, I can't believe we're talking about the same company. I've done considerable business with local contractors and suppliers. Blaine was among the best. Communication easy and prompt, estimator was knowledgeable and on time, work was scheduled promptly, workmen showed up on time, work was well done, and front office an absolute pleasure to deal with. They even adjusted balance for me because estimate was a bit high for work performed and materials used. Would recommend them in a heartbeat. read more

I have used Blaine in the past to successfully repair malfunctioning windows. They were very slow, but they resolved my issues. For this reason, I asked them to give me an estimate to replace four windows. After two weeks I called to find out where my estimate was. I was told that they were waiting for a technician to answer a question before they could finish the estimate. The woman told me they would get back to me within a day or two. Another week has passed and I am now calling other window companies. Blaine's lack of interest and follow-up makes me wonder how they stay in business. Blaine came highly recommended by several people who have used them in the past, so I contacted them despite their many negative online reviews. I tried multiple times to explain on the phone what I needed done, but the person I spoke with brushed me off, didn't listen to what I needed done, and instead insisted that I needed to spend $65 to have a representative come to my house to give an estimate. When the person finally came, I was told that they could not do the job that I needed done. They could replace glass, but would not seal around the window. This is a 3 story high window, and I want to do the glass replacement and sealing in one go, naturally. I am really taken aback that a company such as Blaine Window Repair that installs and repairs windows can not repair glass in a ghosted window and caulk around the frame while doing so. I have now wasted 3 weeks of time (it took a long time to get someone from Blaine to even come, and they did not call two days in advance to give a time of arrival like they said they would), and am now bracing to incur serious water damage from the storms this weekend. read more

The customer service at Blaine Window Repair Service was outstanding. I was greeted in a friendly and courteous manner. I brought in a 55-year old broken storm window and asked could they replace the broken glass. The customer representative told me most repairs take between 3-5 days which is very reasonable since most of the requests are probably for products that have been out of production. A Blaine Window Repair technician fixed my storm window the same day I brought it in. Imagine my surprise when I received their voice mail message as soon as I returned home!! The workmanship was superb. I highly recommend Blaine Window Repair Service to anyone who is looking for hard-to-find replacement window parts and expertise to get a job done right the first time!! read more

We wanted to go with a local company to replace windows and screens. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Blaine. They came out to give us an estimate on 10 windows and screens. We were promised the estimate at least three times but every time we checked, we were told it was being "researched", which took weeks. Then when we finally got the estimate, we were informed it would take more than 6 weeks to get to the job and by then, we doubted they would ever be ready as promised. So we ordered just the screens. Again, phone calls. We picked them up. Two were not made according to their own measurements. Trooped back to Blaine with the screens -- no, "we're sorry," no "we'll make this right" -- just basically like they were doing us a favor correcting their own errors. Suffice it to say, the window job will go to another company. I would never recommend them for any task. They don't seem to take their work seriously and just don't seem to care about their customers. Too bad but stay away from them. read more

Today wer were waiting 3! hours for the worker, although we had an appointement. and fimally this was the 5th appointement they (HE, the company sent only ONE man; how should he handle the replacement of big windows??) were not able to do something, because they had the wrong information from the company. One time they didn't come wihout an excuse, although they had made an appointment,after that they came with the wrong windows, then they had the wrong measure. At least we have got 2 new glasses full of handprints from outside , but we are still waiting in the winter for doing the repairs of 3 windows. I don't trust this company any longer. read more

I have used this window repair company several times for hard to get parts for older windows. Even if the front desk is not that enthusiastic to see me come in the door, they have always known exactly what part I have needed. I also emailed them a picture of the window part and the item number ion it. They did email back that yes they did indeed have the part. This saved me a 20 mile trip in the even they did not have the part. I highly recommend this company for older, hard to find parts for windows. I go here all the time for window parts. read more

Blaine Window Repair demonstrates a shocking lack of respect for it's customers. I purchased some parts to repair the old windows in my house. It proved to be a MUCH larger job than I anticipated so I called Blaine to inquire about returning the unused parts. "No problem," was the answer that I got from two different employees. What they didn't tell me was that they were going to reduce my refund by 50% to cover the "restocking fee." Seriously?! You can hold the parts in your hand. Check their web site: there is no mention of a 50% restocking fee. It is just a crass way to boost revenue at the expense of a their customers. Who in their right mind would impose that sort of penalty on a (previously) satisfied customer? Obviously this is a company that doesn't care about customer relationships. I even explained YELP and some of the other sites to them but was met with a look of disinterest. OK, Blaine, here you go... I hope that the $25 you ripped me off for was worth the lost business that will occur as your YELP rating continues to go down. read more

Not a reputable company. A window washer destroyed one of my window screens. I contacted Blaine, gave them the measurements of the screen and the woman said it would cost about $50 or $60 to fix, but that it would cost $65 for the house call to get the screen and measure window for the actual quote, and that the $65 would apply towards the cost of the screen. To bring the total work up to $65 or a little more, I asked about replacing torn mesh in another screen and she said that would be about $20. Thinking the work would come up to be about $70 or $80 I scheduled the house call and paid them $65. Sure enough, I got the bait and switch. In their quote, the $50 screen will now cost about $200 to replace. In reality, it should cost only about $50 to replace this screen. Now I'm out $65, or $40 if I can get them to just follow through on replacing the torn mesh screen. Watch out for the bait and switch with these guys. In fact, stay away from them. I have to believe there are more reputable companies out there. read more
