We had a pretty good experience with Blaine (better than some of the other reviews here, I guess!). We needed to replace the pane of glass in our storm door. We reached out to Blaine, and someone was able to come out to take a look within a few days after that. I do agree that the customer service here is not outstanding. Our quote initially had two items combined (a screen option and a glass option), when it was supposed to be an either/or, and wasn't itemized so we couldn't tell how much each separate replacement option cost. When I called to get a new invoice, the woman I spoke with did not understand what I was talking about, and it took a day or two to get a new invoice. The quote also said 6-8 weeks for materials, but I was told over the phone that it would likely be shorter than that. I did have to follow up after a week or two to check in, at which point they told me they did have the part and could do the replacement that week. It was nice that it was much shorter than the estimate, but a bit frustrating that they weren't proactive in calling me. Today we had the most amazing Customer Care and Service experience: We had gaps in 3 of our windows, very much noticed in recent winter days, and we called contractors to check. They took a look at the problem, made great presentations and suggested solutions that really made no sense. We then reached BLAINE WINDOW & DOOR, HOME DEPOT gave us the contacts. They "fixed" a screen in a French door. After 6 weeks screen pulled away from the frame. I returned it asking them to fix. They said my cats did it (no), screens are just to keep bugs out, best deal they offered was additional $42 after I had spent $76. I sure would not take anything else there. If I could give Blaine 10 stars, I would, Kyle and Tony did a phenomenal job of installing and Reid took my order and made everything happen so smoothly. My Andersen sliding glass doors needed to be replaced and I ordered them directly from the company. Blaine was one of Andersen's recommended installers. When I contacted them, they asked me to provide them very specific information so they could give me an accurate estimate -- I sent them photos so they would know what the job entailed. Kyle and Tony arrived on time and made the whole installation so easy from my end. Not only were they expert at the work, they were so nice and so respectful of being in my home. They were also fast and thorough and cleaned up beautifully. They took all the packing and the old doors and I never would have known anyone had been there. The new doors operate better than I ever could have imagined! The doors had been in place for about 10 years when I bought the house so I had no idea how smoothly and quietly a sliding door is supposed to operate. The customer service at this place is horrible. I will never refer anyone to patronize this company. I would rate them negative 5 stars if I could. It took months to get an estimate, and when I did receive one, it was SO expensive, I could not believe screens cost that much. Most importantly, stay away from ED... He is so rude, and disrespect. I spoke with him in order to get a break down of the cost. He is one nasty human being. To the tone of me telling him to keep his screens, and forget that I ever pursued your company. It's no way I would allow ED to overcharge me, talk to me very abrasive, rudely, disrespect me with his word selection, and then give him my money. Literally unreal. I have not dealt with a company this frustrating before. It took a month to receive an estimate. Once finally received, the estimate is not itemized. If you ask for items to be removed, it takes another week to receive an updated quote but only if you keep calling to beg them for someone to look at it. We retained Blaine to install 3 window screens & replace a damaged, small pane of glass in our 1935 house. After coming to my house on 6-10-22, to inspect the job & take measurements, for a charge of $65 (to be deducted from full cost of the job if we went forward), I received a proposal on 7-19-22 (only after calling to follow-up), and promptly paid the requested deposit on the full cost of the job ($225 deposit on $800.48, including tax, net of the $65 inspection/measurement charge). I was advised that the lead-time to install "custom" screens wd be 3-4 months. On 11-15-22, Blaine technicians came to do the work. 2 of the 3 screens fit perfectly, but they did a messy job replacing the damaged window pane (telling us it was our job to clean-up/re-paint after the putty had "set")...but WAY WORSE, told us they'd mis-measured the 3rd screen & it didn't fit! The tech gave me a gobbledy-gook explanation & said my choices were to forget the screen, in exchange for a $100 refund on the total job, OR to allow him to cut-down the screen so he cd squeeze it in...leaving a "gap" somewhere in the window/storm/screen assembly (frankly, I didn't understand a word he said). Immediately after the technicians left (@ noon on 11-15-22), I called the Blaine office to complain & was assured that the manager wd call me back as soon as he was available. I waited all afternoon, but never got a call-back. I am acutely aware that windows/screens/storms in old houses are problematic, which is why I was willing to pay for a "custom" job...but Blaine didn't deliver. read more

I originally placed an order to replace all window screens (30+) and 2 windowpanes on our house in April 2021. I was given a 5 to 7 week completion date. This job was finally completed today, December 2, 2021 -- 8 months later!! The initial delay was due to the manager "forgetting" to process my order until June. I always had to call and email them multiple times to get any status updates on my order's progress. They never reached out to me. Subsequent delays were because every single scheduled installation revealed some defective screens, mis-measured screens, mis-measured windowpanes, etc., etc. I was not once given priority scheduling for any of the multiple visits required by their mistakes, nor was I offered even the smallest discount, or even an apology for that matter. I have received service 3 times. Needed to get some repairs for my mid-century steel windows. Every other company I talked to simply told me to replace them. Blaine Window & Door, not only fixed the issue, they gave me some tips for proper maintenance :). The cost of repairs was less than a full window replacement. I hired them once again to install a storm door and I'm very pleased, door is sitting perfectly in place. The estimates and payment were all handled electronically without issue. I've been a Blaine's devotee since the early '90's - great source for hard-to-find window parts, great repair services for drop-off items like bug screens, etc. Most recently they were able to replace damaged, aged low-e glass panes in several Andersen casement windows - saving me a fortune versus the cost of replacing the entire window. Kyle, the Blaine technician who did this glass replacement work last week was supremely professional, technically spot-on and an incredibly nice fellow. Unfortunately, I'm going to agree with many of the reviews here. Blaine Window was a not a great company to handle our work, due to their disorganization and inability to follow up. I actually cancelled the order with them and got the job done in six days with another company. I bought a new condo that was to be used as a rental. The former owners broke a window prior to closing. The seller's real estate agent booked Blaine Window to handle the repair. Payment was handled from the escrow account, but I had to meet the company since the locks had been changed after the sale. In fairness, the two guys who came out to diagnose the problem were excellent. They showed me what was wrong, took measurements and said the company would follow up with an estimate. It took two calls and 14 days to get the estimate. No one at the company could ever give me an answer; they would always "follow up and get back to me." That always meant an email 24 hours later. The estimate came, I paid the deposit and then another email arrived the next day saying it would take 3-5 weeks for the parts to be ordered. I called again, spoke to someone who said they would follow up with the parts department. The next day an email arrived saying, "We are waiting on a response from our supplier with an ETA for the parts. We'll be in touch when we know more." At that point, I called another company who came out the next day. They got the parts ordered and installed within six days. I asked Blaine to cancel the order and asked for a refund. They agreed and said--wait for it--they would follow up. Two days later, I had to call back and then was sent a reversal receipt. It took another four days for the refund to hit my credit card. The staff that comes out onsite are clearly knowledgeable. The office staff is what will put them out of business. read more

I agree with many other reviewers that this company has a "no care" attitude. I needed my window fixed so I made an appointment specifically requesting a day when they can come in the morning so I can go to work in the afternoon. They said they would call me 1-2 days before with a confirmation call. I never received said confirmation call, so I assumed all was well and that I could expect them in the morning. I call them the morning of to see what time they were coming, and the gentleman on the phone said that I was the last stop of the day since they schedule their appointments geographically. That's fine, but I specifically requested a morning appointment, he confirmed that they would be able to come in the morning, which is why I made this appointment and took the morning off work. I asked him if they had called me 1-2 days before to confirm (like they said they would) if they would have been able to tell me they could only come in the afternoon. He said yes, and that they did call (they didn't) and left a message (they didn't). I cancelled my appointment and will not use them again. read more

I don't know what these other reviewers were expecting. There is a triangle in life where you only get two of three side. Want it cheap and good? It's not going to be fast. Blaine Windows is an old school repair shop in Silver Spring. I was referred to them by another window repair company who did not have the special parts for our old windows and separately by our co-op building manager for new screens. Two referrals? I had to check them out. This is a go-in-person type of place, not call in. I wasn't greeted particularly enthusiastically as I trudged in with my entire window/frame on Tuesday morning, but I was helped almost immediately (8:20am). The man who assisted me looked at the window thoroughly and said it was no problem. I also ordered eight new storm screens. All for just $303! Another quote I got from a different company was $578! I was told it would take about a week, which I wasn't thrilled about, but again, if you want good quality and cheap, you can't have it fast. Wednesday evening upon talking with my boyfriend, we realized two of the screens we ordered should have been smaller than the others. I called Blaine first thing Thursday morning and a pleasant young woman answered and quickly directed me to the sales counter. The same man who took my order on Tuesday answered and remembered me. Even though he said they already started work on the screens, he would have them cut the two down 6" and they should be ready by noon that day! Great! At 11:50am I got a call saying the window and screens were done and I could come in anytime to pick them up. Overall, I had a great experience with Blaine Window Repair. The work they did is fantastic--everything looks great. The price was right and it didn't take that long after all. Wow, this company is an epic mess. I moved into a new apartment in March, and my landlord called Blaine to have them fix five windows and install screens on them. Long story short? It's July now... the windows are fixed, but we still don't have screens on all of them. And it's been more than four months. Ridiculous. We waited several weeks for the first appointment, and they didn't show up when they said they would. Waited another several weeks for the "replacement" appointment... they left a message on my voicemail to confirm the appointment two days in advance. When I called them back an hour or so later, they had no record of me, my address, or my appointment. What??? YOU called ME an hour ago, remember??? They finally showed up two days later, took a bunch of measurements, and then left. My landlord sent them money for the repairs, and then we heard nothing for about six weeks. They showed up and fixed the windows (the windows work... two stars for not screwing up the repair job), but forgot two of the screens. They said they'd bring them back in a few days. Here I am, two weeks later, still waiting for the screens. They just told my landlord that they need to measure the windows before ordering the screens (I watched them measure the windows on two separate occasions... where did those measurements go?), and I have a feeling that it's going to be another couple of months before we actually get them. I can't say that I really care all that much about the screens, but these guys are clearly incompetent, at least in terms of all of the administrative elements of their work. Annoying. Unfortunately I have to add to the growing chorus of negative reviews. I called this company looking for a replacement window crank for my basement casement window. I lost the crank, and since Blaine was listed on the manufacturer's website as being an authorized dealer, I figured they would have the item or at least know where to get it/ I called them and (to their credit) easily reached the "parts counter." I explained my situation and described the exact part I was looking for (as well as the model number of the window and the part number from the product catalog.) They told me they might have it in stock, but I would have to drive to Maryland to bring in the part in to show them. Despite having the exact part number, the parts counter guy absolutely insisted on me bringing in the crank. I explained to him I didn't have it. He said, "well, I guess we're grasping at straws" and hung up. I was kinda shocked at that attitude - not only was it rude, but there's no need for me to bring in a part when I have the exact product number! I ended up calling a competitor and they knew exactly what I wanted and sent it to me for free. I'll never call Blaine for anything again, if that interaction was any indication. read more

We had some broken mesh screens and a storm window to replace, and from what I gathered, this was pretty much the only game in town, so I went here for the repairs. I brought the screens in versus having Blaine pick them up (which saved me a $140 visit fee). One thing was clear to me when I went to the shop - things are slow. There were two people being helped when I got there so I thought I wouldn't have to wait long but I was wrong. I waited about 15 minutes before I was helped. There's no music or TV running so the passing time feels even slower. I was finally helped and the gentleman who helped me was very nice and professional. I paid my bill, left the screens and awaited the call that they were ready. Regarding actual work, I thought these guys were just fine. They called me to let me know that the screens were ready but that the storm window needed more time. I opted to wait until the latter was finished so I could get everything in one visit. They called me again the following week and I picked up the screens a few days later. Again, on my pick up visit, I waited like 20 minutes before I was helped. Someone was taking a phone order and another person was helping a customer. As 2 other customers and I waited, I saw 2 or 3 other employees walking around the back office and counter area. It's not like a regular retailer where they call in reinforcements when it gets busy. They just rely on the guys behind the counter. So, it was a bit frustrating as you felt like, wow - this is going to take forever, can't one of these guys lend a hand? Finally, the gentleman taking the phone order was finished and could help retrieve my order. The screens looked great. So, all in all, it was a decent experience but feels very slow. Just know that you will have to wait and it will feel very slow. One suggestion for Blaine's employees would be to acknowledge customers as they are waiting so they don't feel like they are being ignored as they wait. It might help the mediocre "customer service" reviews. They even have chairs in there like the DMV and in some ways, you feel like you're at the DMV.... read more

Don't waste your time! What a terrible experience. They came to my home to measure glass to install in a door. Then never heard back from them, excuses and then they cant do the job! So sell me the glass and I will do the work! They never called me or responded to numerous e mails asking when the glass would be ready. Finally they found my order and when I went to pick it up, I found out what their problems were. Terrible customer service and very rude! Multiple customers at the counter were having problems with orders and one person walked out. Apparently, when the father passed the business off to his son, everything has gone down hill. Blaine saved me from window pain! I had several windows with various issues from wear and tear, from screens that were broken, to locks that were funky and a few that had the inner sealing coming off. Their repair people came quickly, repaired the problems competently and did not charge extraordinary prices -- in fact I think their rates were quite fair. I would definitely call them again as I was impressed with the quality of their work and five years later their repairs are still holding up. read more

After several emails (no response) and phone calls I still have no date when they will be installing my screen door. From my view, Blaine -has what I need, which is extremely rare where I live near Boston, and - the prices are quite low for the parts (window lifts with springs and pulleys) and -the service is great. I order online and like magic very nice parts appear for low price. They respond to emails. Great service, great product, prices so low I worry they don't charge enough. I see the one star reviews and the 5 star reviews. I think something suspicious is going on with Yelp's one-star reviewers. I learned about Blaine from Trumbull's Hardware in Fryeburg, Maine, they offered to source for me, and suggested to go direct if I wanted to avoid back and forth to the store. Another case of an old fashioned business, too good to believe. If I lived nearby Blaine's place, I would probably visit the store and find a reason to hire them to work on the house. I had an outstanding experience with Jon Blaine, the owner. He personally contacted me about an issue that I reported in an earlier, now deleted, negative review. He explained why the earlier problem existed and took it upon himself to personally remedy the situation. The end result is that he came to my home and personally repaired 8 double hung windows that are 23 years old. They work great now. I will tell all of my neighbors about Blaine Window. The customer service by the owner was outstanding. The work was performed quickly and neatly. He is the third generation in his family to own the business. I highly recommend this company. Blain's is a fabulous place for windows, doors, and screens and is unique in the Washington, DC area for finding difficult to locate items and the range of services they provide. Based on a recommendation from another very good window and door company in Virginia (Hodges in Ashburn), we went from Reston, Virginia to Silver Spring, Maryland to find a hard to find 15-year-old door handle from a high-end patio door. We were actually shocked when they found it and even had it, but in a different color than we needed, so quickly made an order for us and provided solid advice on how to get our very heavy door to slide better. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable, courteous and go out of their way to be helpful. Our previous experience with Blain has also been excellent. If we could rate them higher than 5 Stars we would !!!! read more

They Never showed. I Called the next day, they told us the tech was running late and was unable to show, said they left a message later that afternoon.
