This was my first time coming here, and it was for Valentine's Day/taco Tuesday, and everything about it was simply amazing. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a host and what I assume to be a manager, we were sat almost instantly. We got a booth to ourselves which was very nice. The atmosphere is great. I didn't have any cocktails but they have a good cocktail menu and bar. The service was also great. The food was mediocre, I've had better Mexican food. While my experience here was less than stellar, they reached out to me immediately to make this right and refunded my money and offered me a gift card to try them again. To me, this is extraordinary customer service. They went above and beyond to make it right so I respect that and they deserve your business. While I enjoyed the Machaca tacos, I had issues with other things, but I encourage you to try them for yourselves. The management definitely knows how to run a restaurant. read more

We've dined here 2 times in the last 30 days. Turns out this corporate restaurant chain has done better than most of the fine-dining restaurants we tend to frequent, in terms of service and prices. And the food is pretty good! I highly recommend the braised chicken enchiladas---fantastic! The rice that comes with most dishes is better than rice should be. We contemplated ordering more! We've sampled a few of the tacos. The Al Pastor was ok. The grilled avocado and grilled mahi tacos were delish. Of the margs, the jalapeño and pineapple and spicy skinny were our favorites. There are only two desserts, which didn't inspire us (why do Mex restaurants often offer so few options??). Street parking can get tight, but they offer $8 valet parking. When two people can eat and drink for $60, the valet parking cost is easier to absorb. One other observation: the crowd this restaurant (and it's sister, Culinary Dropout) appeals to made me think of the south Denver suburbs, which is pretty surprising given it's not in one of those burbs. If you're a RINO or Highlands regular, you may feel a little out of place. If not, enjoy the pre-pandemic-like service and good food at reasonable prices! read more

Our server Shelby was just not very attentive. We planned on ordering both a cheese crisp and a dessert but were cut short by receiving our check after being neglected for 20 minutes. The food was excellent. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. The chips were fresh, the guac was creamy and flavorful. We tried the roasted poblano chili and tomato which was kind of like a pizza crisp, delicious, had to force ourselves to stop eating it. Pork chili verde enchilada was outstanding. It's too bad I have to give this place 2 stars, because we (my family and many others in the area) are so excited to have a nice mexican food place in the 9th and Colorado complex with such a cool vibe, outdoor seating adjacent to Culinary Dropout, etc. BUT... we have some problems. First, we, and our friends, have been a total of 4 times... in every single case, service was atrociously slow. From getting seated (even when it wasn't busy), to getting someone at the table in a timely fashion, to having to wait literally a full 15+ minutes for the first drink to arrive. It doesn't make sense but this is what happens. We notice that the wait staff doesn't seem very well trained or efficient... we notice there are many trips in and out of the kitchen with empty hands.. where one of the main things a staff can do to be more efficient is to always bring dirties on the way back (even if it isn't your station), and always deliver food on the way out, to speed things up, and get the customer their food when it's hot and fresh. It's also odd that twice I've asked what beers are on tap, and the wait staff had no idea and had to go get a menu. I think there are only 4 or 5 taps... so... study that list? Same was true of asking simple questions about menu items... like "does that have beans in it?" (hold on let me go check). It's the little things, but when it's all the little things, it is a bummer. Had dinner last night with the family. Food was outstanding and Dan, our server was amazing. First time at this establishment but it exceeded our expectations. Margaritas were perfect. I had the Chimichanga which was a generous portion and so filling. Rest of the family had great dishes as well. The ambiance is excellent! Food was great and enjoyed by everyone at our table as well. The service was friendly but slow in execution. We had to wait for our server to return so we could order drinks and then watch our drinks (even bottled beer) sit at the bar awaiting pick up for 10 min each time. It's great they serve complimentary chips and a tiny serving of salsa but would be reasonable (not to mention profitable) it they just had a chips and salsa as an appetizer. We were enjoying our company, having drinks for some time before ordering food. I asked if we could just order more salsas but no, just the tiny 2 oz serving for a table of 7 people. I then ordered the guac appetizer and no chips came with it. What in the actual hell? Trying to find our server constantly, to place a drink order, more chips, more salsa, chips to go with the ordered guac and then dinner kinda took away the fun of it. Since parking is limited, it was nice to bike however there is no bike barking anywhere at the front entrance. There is bike parking behind the building but the rack is not securely bolted to ground. Bike theft is impressive in this city so not a safe place to park bikes. Overall, just ok. Definitely needs some improvement before coming here again. read more

I've been meaning to try this restaurant bec I love Mexican food, the location is very convenient to the AMC movie theater, and it looks really nice from the outside. I finally tried it last night. I was fine in the sense of being OK, but I don't see any reason to return. A few reasons: (1) I didn't love the ambience once inside. It's like a cross between a huge sports bar or a place that would hope to be packed with a young, noisy crowd (though we were there early and it was not packed, which was a plus for us), a family restaurant, and the darkness of the lighting suggests a date night place. (2) The food was just OK, but nothing more. In re other upscale Mexican inspired restaurants, such as Mezcal or Machete, Blanco did not measure up in terms of food quality. (3) While we had an excellent, professional, and kind waiter, the service by the other staff was not great. The front of the house person brought mains to us immediately after our waiter had brought out appetizers. That left us with a choice of eating our hot appetizers while letting our mains get cold. They were kind of unappetizing by the time we got to our mains. That undermined the flow of our meal. We found one of the other waiters (not ours) rude when he made a comment about our moving to a quieter table when the restaurant was largely empty. So, overall it was a disappointing, but not terrible experience. We've been very happy with other restaurants near the AMC and will plan to return to them next time we are trying to combine a film and a meal out. read more

TL;DR: Meh; food was generally overly salted, hit or miss with good and not-so-good dishes. Cocktails generally way too sweet and syrupy, not cocktails for mature adults that have had good versions of them frequently in the past, especially for the price. Service was rushed, insincere, and passing. Table consensus, not just my opinion. Better values elsewhere, especially when also considering the 45-minute wait. Another one of these newer places that oversalts everything. What are you trying to hide? The good: wife said chicken tortilla soup was pretty good, but cold, slightly warm at best. My tiger shrimp fajitas were generous, good size, and flawlessly grilled, but still too salty. Six giant shrimp and all the fixins and just three tiny 3" tortillas? Nothing but tiny appetizer plates to eat off of? Server was always in a hurry, rarely established himself in a proper standing and patient posture to sincerely respond, and barely gave us time to consider and express needs, kinda always leaning to the next thing with body language and speech, seemingly waiting for us to release him within a couple of seconds. Apps were all really salty and otherwise just alright. Margaritas were sugar syrup with a splash of tequila and a hint of lime flavor, among the worst we've had at this price point. The mezcal old fashioned was a waste of mezcal in a pool of syrup on the rocks with a cherry on top. ALL the Colfax Mexican restaurants have better drinks, more moderately salted food, less wait, and a better value for the money. I don't expect us to come back, considering the food, cocktails, and service. The only thing truly impressive was the flan, which was EXCELLENT, among the best I've ever had, with a firmer texture than typical and a deep caramel / vanilla flavor throughout. Not enough to draw me back. By far the best drink we had was straight mezcal with as-requested rocks on the side (for $20), which should be telling. Six drinks, two appetizers, three entrées, one dessert, tax, tip: $200. Chips were excellent with a toasted flavor, salsa was just fine, kind of bland, almost too tomato in proportion . We were hungry, hadn't eaten all day, and should have been easy to please. read more

I used to be employed by Blanco Phoenix. I may have a bias! But everything was still just as good as when I left. The Machaca (short rib) Burrito is by far, my favorite and I'm so glad it's still on the menu after all this time. My only complaint is the bowl for both the chips and salsa is about 1/4 the size it used to be and a couple of the old salsa are gone. Other than that, still soooo good! read more

Tried this new restaurant out last night. Atmosphere was fun and looks inviting. Unfortunately, food was disappointing. Maybe it was a bad night for the kitchen and they dropped a canister of Morton's salt but everything was extremely salty. So much so that one couldn't appreciate any of the other flavors. While I appreciated the complimentary chips/salsa the chips were "underwhelming" and not worth the extra calories to munch on. I'd say the best part of the meal was the frozen Paloma cocktail. A few admissions: we stumbled in here because there was a wait across the driveway at Culinary Dropout. I also came in a little biased after googling on my phone and discovering this was a chain. What follows is a lesson in being aware of your biases, and not letting them blind you to what could be otherwise amazing experiences. We were greeted and immediately seated. The space is open, airy, and surrounded by windows, creating a great ambiance, day or night. There are a mix of booths and tables, and we were seated in a booth that was quite spacious (I appreciated how the interior designers didn't try to cram as many seats into the place as they could). Our waiter came by with his trainee, and both were very friendly and helpful in helping us approach the menus. The margarita options were novel, and the two flavors (skinny and smashed watermelon) were tried were unique and satisfying. I also got a Frozen Paloma despite the fall chill, which was great, and will probably be multiple times better when I come back in the summer for one. The food was so pleasantly delicious. I ordered the fajitas, and while my biases against chains set my expectations for Chili's grade, I was humbled by the flavors of perfectly roasted fresh peppers, and delightfully seasoned and uniquely flavored chicken.
