I had dinner at Blasteran on a Sunday night after waiting for far too long, and boy did it live up to every single one of the 5-star reviews it has gotten. I regret not taking any photos, but the food was so fantastic that we honestly couldn't wait. The restaurant itself occupies a very neighborhoody-feeling space, with comfortable lighting, an outdoor patio, and spacious tables so you don't feel like you're on top of the party next to you. They serve a reasonable selection of beer+wine+bubbles (no liquor). We were seated promptly (had a reservation but probably didn't need one on a Sunday night). Our kind+friendly server Irena brought us out a snack of crunch shrimp fries and a fiery sambal to munch on while we ordered, and we sipped on an easy Beaujolais with dinner. The garlic noodles (I added scallops) were a unique fusion dish that was simply out of this world, a hybrid of flavors and texture that lived somewhere between the silkiness of a carbonara and the comfort of chow mein, with a garlicy flavor profile that has lingered in my head for the 12 hours since we met. The Gado Gado is a must order (as were the noodles). It was was the first time I've had such a dish;- less of a salad, and more of a pad-thai hash. The flavors of this dish didn't overwhelm in any direction, sweet, savory, an incredible umami with a variety of crunchy+hearty textures throughout. I was wondering if The Blasteran burger would be a bit unusual given the Asian flavors of the other things we ordered, but this burger was just a perfect execution of a classic fine-dining burger, perfectly cooked + seasoned beef paired with a parm crism and gruyere, and an undercurrent of french onion and remoulade. This is the exact type of burger that would satisfy any burger jonesing even juxtaposed wtih the rest of the menu. Easily one of the top tier burgers I've had. Despite coming for a light dinner, the food was so impeccable that ordering dessert was a no-brainer, so much so that I ordered 2. The passion fruit mouse was a beautiful dish, but the show stopper was the chocolate babka bread pudding with caramel and vanilla ice cream. The food was good and the waiter was amazing. However the only reason I'm leaving a 1 star is because the lady I believe to be the owner of some sort, Asian I believe, was very off putting. I'm not sure if it was due to the color or my skin ( being black) but she made a point to speak to and address everyone in the restaurant with the exception of me. I just visited today with my two small children and that was extremely rude. I find it very unseemly. She definitely made it a point to single me out and not speak. I spent money just like everyone else and expect to be treated the exact same way. I am a business owner and own 3 businesses along with my husband and would have never excluded one of my customers. The restaurant is located on a beautiful scenic LA street near a park. There is parking on the side and street. The hostess was very polite. The indoor seating is dark so I ate outdoors. Although I was the only customer outside the manager turned on the heater, made suggestions of his favorite menu options, brought water, and was very welcoming. I ordered the cowboy burger, truffle fries, and a Bellini. The burger was very filling and juicy. Although I'm not a fan of blue cheese it complimented the burger well. First of all, every single staff member here was outstanding. This restaurant is fairly small and intimate, which I like. We made a reservation but it wasn't busy at all and were seated immediately. We started with shisito peppers, Brussel sprouts and salmon tartar. The shisito peppers are charred to perfection with a citrus flavor. The brussel sprouts are cooked beautifully, and the salmon tartar was decadent. The tartar is served with house potato chips and they are light and crispy - perfect with the creamy salmon tartar. For mains, I got the NY steak and it was seasoned and cooked PERFECTLY. The quality of the steak is incredible. I ordered it with half mashed potatoes and half French fries. My man ordered wasabi French fries and I could have eaten several hundred of them THEY ARE SO SO SO GOOD. I'm glad I got the steak because it was truly fabulous but I would go back here for those fries. For dessert we got the French toast bread pudding and it's delicious. I spoke with the restaurant owner just to tell her how lovely everything was and she was so gracious and sweet. She hand picks all the ingredients and told me she goes shopping every single day for the food. I can tell how fresh the ingredients are for sure. We got the cauliflower (very tasty) and mac and cheese to start (a little soupy and flavor profile not that interesting). Then we got the Blasteran burger and garlic noodles (opted not to add the shrimp for $15 ). The burger was standard - nothing to call home about in terms of flavor. Garlic noodles very good, comfort food. Then we ended it with the French toast bread pudding. Make sure you add ice cream to that. It was delicious but not sure if it would hold up without the ice cream. Now regarding the pricing, the food is undoubtedly overpriced. My bread pudding a la mode was $18 !! gulp. In my quest to gain 5,000 pounds before the pandemic is completely over, I tried yet another new (to me) place for lunch from my ever growing collection of bookmarked Yelp spots: Blasteran, on La Cienega and Olympic. I'm delighted with this location because it is across the street from my kids' dentist and orthodontist. This will be the one upside of both my kids having problematic and expensive teeth. We are here about once a month and this is right between where we park and the dental office. Perfect for sore gums are Blasteran's signature garlic noodles. The base noodles are $18 and then there are a range of optional adds from $6 for fried tofu to $16 for NY steak. I recommend the three colossal shrimp for $12, although the Hokkaido scallop for $15 were tempting. The noodles are to die for. By the looks and description I think it's basically yakisoba noodles with butter, oil, oyster sauce, a lot of garlic and a bit of Parmesan for the sauce, and then topped with green onion and pepper. It's divine but a little on the heavy side. You can see the butter/oil in the pic. When I was almost done with my noodles there was so much sauce left. So I brazenly asked if there was a way I could buy a side of cooked plain noodles to dilute what was left. It was less of a complaint and more asking a favor. My server handled the request perfectly: she very sweetly asked the kitchen if it were possible to give me some extra noodles since I thought the sauce was very heavy, and they obliged. The extra noodles they gave me were more than originally in the dish!! I added them to the bowl, stirred it up and the noodles were PERFECT. No pool of butter left. I want to get them this way every time but this might be a one-off situation. Anyway, super grateful for the super delicious noodles and, especially with the extra noodles, I'm a few steps closer to my +5,000 lb. goal. We'll be back. Tip that even meters are pretty expensive ($2/hour). Park across the street and half a block down at the tennis courts for free. read more

My roommate and I were trying to find a place to eat for dinner and he found this on the map because it had an interesting name. For appetizer they gave us some shrimp chips with some sambal. I could not stop eating them! To start our meal off, we ordered the Mac and Cheese. The sauce was perfect - it was rich, creamy and the truffle flavor was not too overpowering. Since all the food looked so good and we couldn't decide what to get, we shared the Blasteran burger and the Pork Belly Bao. The Blasteran burger had so many flavors! I didn't think the arugula would work, but it complimented the rest of the sweet, tangy, salty, savory and spicy flavors from the caramelized onions, burger sauce, cheese, and burger. The fries that came with the burger were also super good. Perfect texture, good amount of skin, and the right amount of potato flavor. The pork belly bao was also delicious! I enjoyed the crunchy texture of the pork belly contrasted with the soft texture of the bun. The fat from the pork belly was like a packet of flavor. In terms of service, we came at around 7:30 and it was not too busy. We made a reservation via Yelp and were seated very promptly. The waitress was nice and answered any questions we had. The food came out quickly, and we were in and out within an hour. We also had the pleasure to meet Landon, the husband of the owner. He told us the story of the restaurant and explained to us that the name actually came from Indonesian for "Melting Pot" hence the restaurant's focus on Asian fusion. He was also kind and very welcoming, even asking for our names. Overall, I absolutely loved this place! I still really enjoy the food here but the lack in consistency is a little putting off. We have been three times now, and while we ordered the same each time - didn't necessarily enjoy the dishes as much. We've had really good chicken karaage sandwich here but also once when it was soggy. Garlic noodles used to come with shrimp, now you have to add your protein on top. Laksa for one has been consistently good. Gado Gado most recently was way too garlicy. I'll keep coming back because when the dishes are good, they're really good. I'd appreciate the consistency to avoid the small disappointments here and there. read more

Their shrimp is freaking huge they're like lobster tails LMAO I'd say that I'd only pass on ordering the bao again just because I'm not a huge fan of really fatty pork, but if that's your thing, I'd recommend since the pork pieces were huge. Bao was fluffy! Portion sizes were on the smaller side but then again my family and I all have huge appetites so for an average person it'll probably be a decent amount of food.
