Why 5 stars? Because this long awaited visit was so worth the wait. --- --- --- This was one of those places I have not only had on my list forever, but I've tried to go a comical amount of times. Somehow, someway, it seems to never work out for me. But it finally happened and I'm mad at myself that it took so long. Probably 2+ years ago a friend and I were at a local sub shop in Sugar Land, and he mentioned how Blimpie was always his favorite. I couldn't even remember if I'd ever been to a Blimpie, but I saw that there happened to be one, so I bookmarked it on that day, and it haunted me ever since. Blimpie cares not about decor or vibes, but they do make an absolutely incredible sandwich. The menu is unique, in that each sandwich is basically just one ingredient different than the sandwich above it. I opted for the Blimpie Best Deluxe on parmesan bre The bread was pillowy soft. The flavor of the sandwich was absolute perfection. It somehow got better each bite. I could not believe how much I liked it and how sad I was when it was over. It will probably torment me indefinitely that I didn't order the larger sandwich. I will prevail. And I will visit again. My question though, is very simply: why did Blimpie almost completely go away? It's light years better than Subway. read more

A Blimpie with a 4.8 on Yelp and 4.5 on Google Maps... seriously? You know this Yelper had to investigate. For context, I'm a Subway loyalist. I used to eat it daily back when a full meal was $4.99, and I've even had Subway in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. So yes, I have a calibrated palate for mass‑market sandwiches. They've got a handful of subs on special, but for a couple bucks more I went with my usual Italian--here called the "Italiano"--on Cheddar Jalapeño bread. And of course I did the footlong because size does matter. I asked for it toasted, only to discover they use a panini press, which flattens the bread like a stress test. Not my favorite. Ironically, I used to love Blimpie's oven‑style toast before Subway even offered it. They do have a separate oven for melting cheese, and that part I absolutely recommend. The sandwich itself was very good and definitely in Subway territory. For $1.29 you can grab a self‑serve cookie--critical, because I can select the front‑row cookie with the maximum chip‑to‑dough ratio. Fresh daily, solid flavor, very Subway‑adjacent. But I still prefer Subway's footlong cookie. It's a personality trait at this point. Staff was extremely friendly. I'm pretty sure the owner was working the counter, unless a gentleman of his seniority just enjoys staying busy or needs the cash, which is increasingly common these days. Honestly, that personal touch is probably what gives this place an edge over Subway. Pepsi products here. Acceptable, but I'm a Coke person. Blimpie is becoming an endangered species, even though it predates Subway by a year. But overall, I still think Subway has the stronger product. read more

I don't normally review chain restaurants but since they have so few locations in Houston, and they're a little unique, I felt I should. I had a blimpie near my house when growing up but it had been nearly 20 years since I've been to a location and tried their sandwiches. This location also happens to be very close to home, so it was only a matter of time before I visited. This location is pretty small and cozy, with a small section of old style carpet in the dining area up front which you rarely see in fast food restaurants, much less any restaurant, these days. I tried their 12" meatball parmeseana on parmasean flat bread as recommended by the sandwich maker. The sandwich itself was great and messy, unfortunately the meatball is not mostly beef like you might think. It's mostly pork with maybe a hint of beef. Service was excellent and the guys behind the counter are pretty quick and efficient when making sandwiches. Needless to say, I will just stick to a regular sliced meat sandwich next time as I feel they've changed their recipe for their meatballs over the years. read more

This was my first time eating a Blimpie and will not be my last. This was the B E S T Italian sub I've ever had. The service was amazing, I loved the inside of the store too it old school vibes, the ambiance was amazing. I'm moving 30 minutes away, but this is definitely worth driving for when I'm craving a fresh delicious sub. I added oil, vinegar, and mayo to my sub. Which made it messy but was definitely worth getting all over my hands and mouth. They have a clean spacious bathroom that I was able to wash my hands in. This is a Subway knockoff or maybe Subway is their more widely known sibling. The setup is the same as is the color scheme. A little variation in the menu and with less add on options. I have always loved Blimpie, and was so excited that there was one nearby when I moved here. I always get the veggie and cheese on the jalapeno cheddar bread. They have all the regular veggies and a sweet pepper mix that I enjoy. My husband, who has been known to complain about my love of sandwiches, quite often suggests we come to Blimpie he likes the sandwiches so much. He gets the cheesesteak, the club, or ham and swiss. I stopped by this location today 11 minutes prior to them closing. I mentioned to the employee that this was my first time there and asked for a minute to make a decision. He rudely told me "we close at 8pm I already cleaned everything." No reason to mention that to a customer, specifically on the first time visiting. After I chose the bread, the employee placed it down and a fly landed on it. My husband told the employee about the fly and he put the same bread that the fly landed on back inside of the bag. Disgusting!!! I walked out of there. Never going back. Please train your employees to not be rude to customers and toss food that flies land on it. read more

Was craving a sandwich, the reviews brought me here. I've had sandwiches from the other good places around like Lenny's, Schloksktsys, Firehouse, Potbellys. Sammiches are generally sammiches unless the place is just sucking. So I sit in the parking lot for a few, looking at all their sandwiches online trying to get my muse, but so many things look so good. I go in, and they've got a special, large regular subs for 6 bucks, well that's pretty good. Now I'm stuck again. The staff are all super cool, understood my dilemma, they eventually helped guide me to my sandwich home. Warmed up some DOPE jalapeno cheese bread. They SLICED up the meat and cheese to put on this bad boy. IE, didn't pull a pile of pre-arranged stuff out of a fridge. And we finished loading everything up. Homeboy even noticed I got a jalapeno butt while he was dressing it up and took it off. Attention to detail, good stuff. I have been a lover of this blimpie subs since the first day they arrived. My mom and I would drive here and purchase a Blimpie Best, Jersey style.... The owner of this place has been here for years and he works long hours and makes it his point to make himself available to the customers. He has never failed me. I usually order a Blimpie Best and sometimes get it with double meat.... Yes I can eat it. The best way is to ask for extra vinegar. Thats how a sub should be made. They have recently started a huge bread line and offer some nice artisan breads. This time I had parmesan bread. My sub was so good.... If you havent been here, please go... Its totally worth it. I have been hankering for a pastrami sub like i used to get in So Cal but haven't been able to find out here. I went to Blimpie yesterday and asked uf they had pastrami cuz i didn't see it on the menu. Yes, they do, and yes they can make me a hoagie just like i want it, double meat, provolone, pickle and mustard, thats all. Hot. what a difference a little extra attention can make.. I was literally in the process of writing a more negative review because the cashier here over charged me for my food and wouldn't listen when I pointed out the mistake. But in the middle of writing it, a manager saw that I was still upset by it, came and got my receipt, went back and added it back up, and brought me cash to refund the difference and apologized for the error. He turned a bad experience to a good! The food is also good and like any other Blimpie. . The meats freshly sliced, the veggies seem fresh, and the portions larger than other chains. Have always ordered the 12" turkey, w/xtra meat, heavy lettuce, mayo and oil/vinegar..... since moving in 2008 to San Marcos,TX, have not had a chance come back here due to time when I am in town. We love this shop because it is NOT attached to a gas station. We now go there at least once a week. The personnel really take their time making our sandwiches, i.e., they take care to put the ingredients on the sandwich without skimping or slopping it on, but they are fast and efficient.
