it's a bummer and i'm also equally glad i saw another review about this so i know it wasn't just us ! me and my friend came in and we were not greeted-no acknowledgement no direction on how to order or where to order. A couple gentlemen walked in after us and the baristas were instantly willing to help them and greeted them so warmly. lol. and even took their order without having to use the self service ipad. they also messed up my friends drink and when they fixed it they handed it back to her overflowing with no lid. so her sweet cream was just dripping all over her hands as they watched . i mean literally just watched it spill all over her hand as she tried to clean up the outside of the cup .. WE had to ask for napkins and a lid and if they can clean it up a bit over their sink since they were just standing there. such bad service and the coffee wasn't even good. My friend recommended this place to me because of their matcha + vietnamese coffee. I've heard of another place that does this but it was out of my way for a trip to San Diego so I decided to stop by Blk Dot Coffee instead. I anticipated a wait so I ordered online and was thankful for that service! I ordered the light vietnamese coffee with matcha because I was worried about a caffeine overload lol. It wasn't as strong as I expected and I think maybe I could've done the regular! It was not bad and had this sort of subtle.. coconutty taste to me for some reason. I'm not sure why! The flavor just wasn't what I expected it to be but it definitely tasted Asian lol. I ordered drinks for my friends and they loved their vietnamese coffee with matcha as well. I also got their ultimate brekkie bowl and it was delicious! It was very saucy lol but had a perfect combination of eggs, bacon, and potatoes. I appreciated this breakfast in bowl format which made it easy and mess free to eat in the car. Parking is available on the street but can be difficult to find during peak times. I rarely drink Vietnamese coffee because it's too strong and bitter for me, but decided to give this place a try since my buddy Paul H. speaks very highly of this brand. This is located in Orange Circle so it's kind of hectic to find parking, although there is a designated parking lot for this place that's shared with another restaurant. I ordered LVTM (light Vietnamese coffee) and Blk'nd Mojito Coffee. LVTM was really good. It wasn't too strong, and had a nutty, sweet flavor to it. The Mojito Coffee was ok. I was expecting it to taste similar to the one at Philz but this one was a bit too acidic for me. Saw several other interesting drinks so I would definitely come back here when I'm in the area. My go to here is the black Vietnamese coffee with a splash of oatmilk. Every time we come here we do have a good experience with the service, ordering and over all vibes of the store. It is very tight and small but they do have seating outside. I have not received a bad order here but I did take a point off for the lack of more food options for those that don't eat pork or beef. I stopped in here late on a weekday morning to grab a coffee. The interior feels cramped, being small and narrow with maybe 4 tiny tables and an even tinier counter. Thinking I might want something to go with the coffee I took a peek at their offerings. There was only one pastry in the case (some sort of muffin) but as it was nearly noon I wasn't surprised. Pass. I ordered a hot Spanish latte to-go. It was a decently made Spanish latte, slightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon. Strong coffee - it definitely gave me a jolt! I guess I need to be in a certain mood for Vietnamese coffee and it seemed a bit too harsh in taste for me this day. I love blk dot coffee but I would avoid this particular location. Drinks are inconsistent in flavor. Baristas seem overwhelmed & there seems to be a lack of SOP for training new baristas as 1/3 baristas present was clearly inexperienced and there wasn't much guidance for him, he absolutely seemed lost. Maybe not ideal to train on busy days like Saturdays perhaps?? In the time I was there which was about 10 mins I saw 2 other people complain about getting incorrect/inconsistent drinks. Also my beverage was "iced", upon receiving it, it only had 4-5 ice cubes and was relatively room temperature which is slight strange for blk dot iced coffees. If you are hungry, then they sell various bagels/croissants/toasts ... yes including avocado toast. *** Original Vietnamese Iced Coffee (regular, $5.75): Call me crazy, but the drink got a little bit of peanut butter aftertaste. Really strong flavor, but the drink also tasted super sweet at the same time upon the first sip which will eventually be diluted by iced cubes. I've wanted to come to this shop for some time; however the line was always out the door and frankly, I can be impatient. I was finally able to try this place out on a recent Sunday afternoon (3/12/2023) and I'm certainly glad I did! The shop itself is fairly small, and the way it's designed architecturally does not leave a lot of room for standing customers who are waiting for their drink orders, which is why this place often looks super -packed. Unfortunately on the day I came by it was too late to order any caffeinated beverages (this Grandma needs to cut off all caffeine by 12pm in order to get a decent nights' sleep!) so I opted to try their Hibiscus Tea with chia seeds. I'm not someone who typically orders iced tea/juice beverages as I'm watching my sugar intake but this drink was so good!! Low quality coffee, baristas are weirdos. I came in and asked what the difference was between the flat white and latte. The first barista looked at me blankly and said "one's bigger". So I said which one has a double shot? He said they both do. So I asked which one has less milk, and he said the smaller one, the flat white. I said I'd take it then. What a roundabout and lazy way to answer a question ... Next, another barista made my drink. I casually walked over to see what he was doing. He did a horrible job at foaming the milk. It was all froth, and not velvety like it should be - no microfoam. No pride in his work. And he just dumped it all in at once and threw a lid on it and handed it to me like a dunce. Coffee was very mid. Just burnt tasting with no depth of flavor. Probably a generic, stale dark roast. Bunch of immature weirdos work here. My wife and I got excellent service next door at the other coffee shop (forgot what it was called. Do yourself a favor and go there). read more
