I had my first experience with Blu Olive yesterday and I can promise you it won't be my last. Right off the bat I was greeted kindly and given the run down that everything is made fresh and that it's all delicious so you really can't go wrong. You can pick from an array of sandwiches, all reasonably priced between $6-$8 or you can build your own salad or pasta. There are also side options including breadsticks, pepperoni sticks, chips, or a side salad. I opted for a chicken sandwich. It comes with grilled chicken, mozzarella, and topped with Alfredo sauce. You can also add two veggies to your sandwich. I went with spinach and the hot homemade giardiniera. To be frank - the sandwich is MASSIVE. And it smelled incredible. The bun was toasted and buttered, adding another layer of delicousness to the sandwich. The chicken was slightly dry, but with everything else added to it, it didn't take away from the flavor. The giardiniera is NOT to be missed - a really spicy, crunchy kick to round out the richness of everything else. It was those fresh homemade meatball's Blu Olive rolls and makes themselves. Topped with three grill items and there you have your delicious meatball sub. I am so happy I found Blu Olive at the New Albany Farmer's Market last Saturday if I hadn't stopped there I wouldn't have tried the best sub of my life. Ever since I read an online review of their beet and ricotta ravioli, I have been dying to try the little truck, and I was not disappointed. disclaimer: I only ordered one thing at Blu Olive, so I can't speak for their desserts or dishes containing meat or honestly anything but that ravioli. THE PROS: highly friendly service. I met the owner, and she was very sweet. everyone in the cart was polite and happy to help. the ravioli itself was very good, but I have to say that what really pushed it over the edge was the inclusion of poppyseed butter, a concept that I was unfamiliar with. It's exactly what it sounds like--butter full of crunchy little poppyseeds, and it really made the dish, adding fantastic texture in an entirely unexpected way. I really appreciate the inclusion of a relatively unique vegetarian option. THE CONS: the portion seemed just a little small. however, it filled me up, so I think it may have seemed that way because of the fact that the raviolis were stacked on top of each other, instead of spread out on a plate like they would be at a sit down restaurant. the typical food truck problems: places to sit, standing wait time, etc. All in all, I was thrilled to have found Blu Olive, and I would happily venture there again. Blu Olive isn't too hard to find if you follow them on Twitter or Facebook. They update them regularly. I usually see that they're posted up at the Bexley Natural Market in the afternoon, but if you want to be sure to find them, they're at the Columbus Commons every Thursday during the Summer and Fall for the food truck court. I saw them last week and a few things on the menu caught my eye, especially the Italian sub. Well, we came back this past Thursday, and that was no longer on the menu. Sigh. Blu Olive rotates their menu quite often it seems, but you can usually find something good on there in the comfort food category. Yesterday I tried the meatball sandwich with house made marinara sauce on focaccia bread. House made marinara? Yes, please. It was a sweeter sauce. My buddy went with an Italian sausage on a pita with peppers, onions, spicy mustard, and a few other things. It sounded and looked pretty amazing. The meatball sandwich was delicious, and they pack quite a few meatballs on there and load on the sauce. It was incredibly messy as well, and it filled me up. My friend thought the sausage on pita was great, and I had a bite and would have to agree. The food here really is close to a 5 star status. It does take a little bit of time for the meal to come out in comparison to other trucks I had. I think we waited about 10 minutes and were the only ones in line at the time, so I wonder how bad it'd be if it was a bit busier. I had really been wanting to try this place out of all of the food carts. They were finally in my 'hood for the Charity Newsies Thursday night event. They did not disappoint! The father of the cook was hilarious and nice. He made ordering fun. I decided to just get the meatball side because I wanted to try Green Meanie while I was there. It came with three large meatballs, decent amount of sauce and a large piece of focaccia...all for $3.75. It was a great amount of food and the price made me feel like a thief. The meatballs were delicious, tender, salty and full of flavor. Her sauce was amazing! The focaccia was probably the best focaccia I've ever had. It usually doesn't do much for me because it's typically hard and flavorless. Hers was moist, flavorful and seriously delicious. I tried a bite of the pasta from my friend's plate, and it was really good. Perfectly cooked to the tooth with a great texture. There are a lot of new food trucks popping up in Columbus! Unfortunately, most of them are just riding the trend instead of actually being fantastic. Blu Olive falls squarely in the trendy-riding category for me. So my one big issue with food trucks is that they're supposed to be reasonably priced. Now, the prices at this truck are in the $8-9 range for each item, which would be reasonable if they weren't snack sized! I ordered the beet-ricotta ravioli which were really, really tasty. However, the portion definitely wasn't meal sized. Some of the other items looked a bit more filling, such as the foccacia sandwich, but that wasn't vegetarian. So I guess vegetarians are supposed to live with small portions? Okay, so size and price aside the beet-ricotta raviolis were pretty darn good. Definitely super beet-y, but not very ricotta-full. They were coated with a generous portion of poppy seeds, which I normally don't seek out, but they definitely added some good texture and interesting flavor. The ravioli are also generously coated with what tasted like butter. So maybe the portions are small because there are a million calories anyway? Overall, I like Blu Olive but I'm not super excited about it. Maybe if they rotated their menu more I would be more tempted to check it out, but I've been there 3 times and the beet raviolis are always the only vegetarian option, and the other items don't seem to change either. I am currently in love with the blue cheese bison burger- 1/3lbs of tasty meat and covered in blue cheese, cheddar, and grilled onions. The last time I ordered the burger it came with tomato pesto kettle chips- a real winner! Visit them on First Friday in Delaware when they park at Staas Brewing- you don't mind the 9 min wait for your burger when you have a beer in your hand. read more

Tried Blu Olive for the first time at Buckeye Lake brewery yesterday. The patrons seemed to like it. I ordered the grilled salmon salad. The salmon had a good flavor although the so-called grilling was not evident. The dressing was pretty good. The salmon was overdone and not moist at all. The only thing fresh in the salad was the greens themselves. Oddly, the salad included canned mushrooms. Who puts canned mushrooms in a fresh salad? I'll try them again but certainly will not have the grilled salmon salad. read more

We had this food truck out to our home in Granville for a graduation party 2 years ago and had such excellent service and feed back from our guests that we had the back again this year for our son's graduation party. I can tell you that the service and quality of the food was not a fluke. Not only were both parties flawlessly executed by them but the food was consistently gourmet quality and well prepared and the service was prompt and so very professional. How did we know this was going to be the case? We actually found where this truck was going to be on Facebook BEFORE hiring them for the first party and drove to Columbus to check them out in incognito mode. We took our family to the truck.. didn't tell the Blu Olive that we were thinking to hire them... checked out the service and ordered a variety of food and did a taste test right there. Obviously they did not disappoint and we hired theme for 3 events.... so far. I would venture to say that this truck is one of the best in all of Columbus... if not number one. They certainly are in our book! We actually had guest that said they missed our first party but heard so much about the food that they were not going to miss it the second time! Great job Blu Olive! Blu Olive catered my brother's wedding and they have been amazing from day one. The food was so good, and they served everyone so quickly. Everyone loved it! I also have to say, the owner really came through for us when another food truck backed out 30 days before the wedding. The same week he helped hook us up with another truck who was willing to cater for the same price! They stopped by ODU today and I got the Bison Burger. The chef said it was his favorite. This was an excellent burger, I inhaled it. Their potato chips are awesome. I enjoy the personally cooked potato chips like that and hardly see it around. People seem to also complain about the wait of the food but to me it's better to have them cook it fresh and I wait then have them already have it made, which is gross. I was really looking forward to trying the Blu Olive food truck today at lunch, I'd seen them around town and never got a chance....but unfortunately the Blu Olive left me feeling well....Blu After checking the menu at work they supplied for our Food Truck Wednesdays I was all ready to try the rotini pasta with the grilled chicken which stated it was served on a bed of dressed arugula. When I got there the menu said nothing about arugula so I was already disappointed, but it did not end there for $7 I got this tiny portion of pasta salad with chicken and a small amount of mozzarella cheese. It was a total let down did not taste bad but far from exciting and nothing I could not throw together on any random weeknight myself. I would have considered a side dish but again prices were way too high for what you got, I mean really $4 for garlic bread?!?!? Blu Olive came out and cooked/ served dinner for our rehearsal dinner in July. We got so many compliments about not only how cool of an idea it was but about how good the food was. My bridesmaids were all complaining they wouldn't fit in their dresses because we all wanted to try everything they had. They are easy to work with and make a great range of food. Love their use of bison and fresh, seasonal ingredients.
