Went there for dinner on a Sunday night few weeks back. Always wondered why the place never seemed that busy considering every other restaurant is always packed. Now I know. First off there were no dedicated servers. Bar staff only. One finally came over to take the order since we were seated at a table. Wife ordered a burger which she said was good. I ordered the Shepard's Pie. Was a nice sized portion but the potatoes were from a box. But what really got me was that there's a sign that states they're dog friendly which as we all know it's against Florida law to have pets in a restaurant. But they don't even require the animal to be on a leash so this boxer is strutting around the restaurant off leash and sits down next to our table waiting for us to feed him. The dog was about 50 pounds and we did not know if he was gentle or not so it make for an uncomfortable experience. A couple who was at another table had mentioned they had already given the dog some of their food and was able to attract the dog back to their table. So for breaking two laws...one having a dog IN the restaurant and two for letting the dog be OFF LEASH I am sure we will not be going back. read more

We didn't get food here, but the drinks were fantastic and so were the quintessential pub vibes. We came with a larger group, so we may have made it more noisy than usual, but they were accommodating. My husband and I were bar hopping on Superbowl Sunday and decided to check out Blue Anchor because we walk by it all the time but never stop by. We didn't realize it was a soccer bar! It was still very fun to stop by for a drink, it has the atmosphere of a pub in the UK. They were playing soccer game. Smoked Mahi dip was good. Bartender was loud and inattentive. Owners is bartender, not only not English but blustering about American politics. Perfect way to ruin a nice day. Ordered the fish and chips special $4 off but when we asked for an extra plate we lost the discount. French fry's and fish were crispy but the fish was "wet" inside almost slimy. The outside of Blue Anchor British Pub is so beautiful ... allegedly is was brought in from England (was it? Hopefully someone can confirm!) The staff is always so friendly and accommodating.. they often check on their guests to ensure order is up to par and if they're interested in refills, have questions on food and drink, etc. Their portions are pretty darned big! Enough to share, especially if you'd like to try several dishes. They have an interesting selection of beers on tap and bottled.. and usually some good games on their screens! I've been going to the Blue Anchor for years and all I can say is it must be under new management or something because it certainly isn't the same place. When we walked in the first thing to hit us was the smell. There was a rancid, dirty mop water scent that was pretty off putting. We were a large group of 5 kids 6 Adults. We were seated and given menus and ordered drinks. We were reading the menus, settling the kids and deciding what to order (as you do) when all of a sudden the tightly wound waitress (owner?) threw her hands up in the air and shouted at us that no one was listening to her and said I'm out of here. We were stunned. We all looked at each other and asked what just happened? Her rudeness was tinged with madness. I mean we weren't even aware she was waiting on an order because we had only had a minute with the menu. Was our server intoxicated or on something? I was the host of our meal so I made a decision to leave because I wasn't going to spend money at a place where customer service had apparently died. I went up to the bar and stood to one side to handle this discreetly away from other customers. I caught tightly wounds eye and quietly asked to close out my tab for the drinks we had ordered. With that she exploded, and I mean EXPLODED and screamed GET OUT 3 times which we quickly did. We stood on the sidewalk in disbelief over what had just happened. We were polite, we were pleasant, we were going to spend a whole lotta $$$$ and that was how we were treated. Please BEWARE if you do decide to visit this smelly dump. Worst service I've ever experienced. Bartender wasn't patient enough while we looked over the menu. Literally yelled at us: "nobody is listening to me!" And ran back to the bar. We then decided to close our tab and leave without eating, and she said, "It's okay, just leave. I like rich customers unlike you!". Craziest restaurant experience of my life. Then the "regulars", the alcoholics that sit around the bar at 1pm on a Thursday, start defending their bartender and talking rudely about us. There are few bonafide British pubs in South Florida. There are places that consider themselves a "British Pub", but Blue Anchor is the real bloody thing. Having been open for over 20 years, Blue Anchor has the look and feel of stopping into a pub just off the cobblestone streets of Whitechapel, London. And I can say that it does because the actual wood panels are from the original Blue Anchor that resided across the pond dating back a couple of centuries -- at least per the website and whom I spoke to there. From the walls to the booths and dining tables, and especially the bar area, if you want authentic British Pub that pulls taps like Fuller's ESB, London Pride, and London Porter, this is it. I've been there the last couple of weeks where I went for lunch to cure a hangover (Sausage Roll and Fish and Chips were tops) and to get my drink on (London Pride and Long Porter by Fuller's) -- hell, the latter night, I even had a car bomb (for some reason, I thought I was still in college but took it down in quick succession) and luckily, no lingering hangover. The latter night also had a cool duo playing cover tunes -- mostly rock songs from the 70s and 80s I think... it was a little foggy by then because, you know, beer, car bombs, words. I have been to this restaurant several times over the years, and today I went in to grab some lunch. In the middle of my meal, the waitress unexpectedly brought me the bill and a to-go cup for my drink. I have never encountered this kind of behavior in any restaurant in Delray. I was dressed appropriately, so I couldn't understand why this happened. If it was motivated by any form of racism, I want to inform the restaurant that I am a British citizen who has been living in Britain for over 38 years, making me more British than the restaurant itself. I've walked by this place a few times and the building looked pretty cool and unique. I heard that pieces of the bar were brought back from Great Britain and that there were lots of history and ghosts attached to it! When I walked in, it was dark, cool, and kind of musty smelling. (Might be from the old rug). It recently changed owners; the original owner was British. The bartender was friendly and there were quite a few patrons enjoying happy hour on a Saturday afternoon. I have not tried their food, but it looks pretty good based on the pictures on Yelp. I had a couple of beers and enjoyed the ambiance and being in a pub from England, literally. This pub was actually on one of my favorite shows called, "Booze Traveler". The host was doing a segment about haunted bars in America. Apparently there was a woman in England back in the late 1800's that was on a date with her lover and her husband stabbed her to death in the bar after finding out she was cheating. *spooky* I definitely got the spooky vibe. Came in here Monday night with a group of friends, the server who was the owners wife takes our order (3 Jameson and cokes) comes back 10 minutes later with 3 Jameson and ginger ales, when we politely told her that's not what we ordered she called us a bunch of assholes and stomped away cussing us out. Fast forward 15 minutes she comes back with the correct drinks then another person at the table who came after also ordered a drink and she asked to see their card. After handing her their id she looked at it for a solid 30 seconds and walked away with it only to come back and proceed to say "what planet are you from are you fucking stupid, never in 10 years have I seen someone try to pay with an id before" then after being handed their debit card she storms off again calling us a bunch of jerk offs and comes back 10 minutes later with a receipt for $100 that she put on the card, she never said anything about starting a tab and none of us said anything about wanting to close out we were planning on staying there for a while and had intentions of ordering more then just 1 round of drinks. After asking for the manager who at the time was the owner (her husband) for a refund on the card and that we would split the check amongst ourselves when we were ready to pay and leave, he proceeds to yell out to his bartender that we're having a melt down and that we want 7 separate checks because we were to broke to afford the bill. Got our refund and left. There's plenty of other bars to go to on Atlantic if your looking for a bar that doesn't treat you like a piece of shit go check out o'connors down the street. After reading the reviews here this seems like a common experience at this bar clearly the owner and his wife would rather smoke 15 packs of molboro reds a day then actually running a bar that can develop an actual customer base. There was a miscommunication on my billing (gave card to start a tab and then paid in cash which led to a double charge of the bill). When I attempted to resolve this in person the manager said "If it were me I would just eat it, but I don't have little balls". Later that day I had the same conversation with the owner and he blamed me for giving a card and said there was nothing he could do. I notified him of what his employee said and he didn't care. If the staff handled this respectfully I wouldnt have cared about being out the money. Never experience any sort of management like this. read more

The building and the inside decor is interesting, the waitress was friendly! Started off with the Black and Tan onion rings and Guinness, yummy! I had the traditional fish and chips, fish was fresh, not oily, chips are ok. I had a bite of the pie and mash that was delicious! For dessert we ordered the English sherry trifle (peaches and cake drenched in sherry topped with Devonshire custard and whipped cream) and the apple crumble, both were good. Need to relay my recent terrible experience the ended with the owner/manager saying "I took your picture going to the bathroom, then not ordering, you and your friend are banned, don't ever come here." Here's the situation. My friends and family are visiting Delray. As a group, we were shop, restaurant, and bar hopping on Atlantic Ave. After buying a pair of trunks in a nearby shop, my friend convinced our wives to let us get a quick beer in the pub we were walking by. So, we went in. However, the EURO 2024 semifinal, England v Netherlands was on and the place was packed. I felt awkward trying to find a place to stand in this small place without being in someone's way watching the match. I worked my way to the back of the bar and couldn't find a seat. So, I went to the bathroom and then I'd regroup and look for a spot at the bar coming back out. I found a space to stand behind some people at the bar. However, we were the only 2 people standing in the place, so I wasn't sure if it was frowned upon to stand at the bar behind people. Then, after waiting there awhile, no bartender came to take our order. Realizing having a quick pint here during the match was going to be a challenge, I told my buddy we should just go and we could come back later after the match when the crowd died down. However, when I got to the sidewalk outside, the owner or manager, not sure, followed us outside and told us "Hey guys, just so you know I took you photo going to the bathroom. Then, you didn't order anything so you're banned, don't come back." I was flabbergasted. I'd never experienced anything like this in my life. I'm not a vagrant looking for a bathroom. I tried to explain our situation, including saying "you didn't see us at the bar trying to get someone's attention?" His answer, "no." So, somehow he "took my photo" but didn't notice me trying to order a beer. I said great, now that I have your attention I'm happy to get a beer. He replied, no, you are banned, and slammed the door on me. And that was that. I've never experienced anything like this. You have been warned, enter at your own risk. read more

I can't comment on the food because I just stopped in to have a beer. This place was PACKED. It is on East Atlantic (where else? It seems almost everything is on or near Atlantic). This is an authentic British Pub and is a hoppin fun place so I think that if you are seeking an upbeat fun atmosphere with fun decor and live entertainment this is your place. So I'm always up for trying something new and my friend had this place bookmarked for awhile. We got there just in time for happy hour so we shared the boxty appetizer which best can be described as a mashed potato with cheese, breaded and fried. It was however, a little cold so we asked to bring it back and they brought back a hot order. It was served with horseradish sauce. I enjoyed it, it was kind of reminiscent of a rice ball. For my entree, I ordered Mac and cheese, it was good but it was missing something-I put a bit of Tabasco on it which helped. It was a pretty generous portion and I had leftovers. Im only 16, and I accompanied my companions for a casual lunch while watching a sports event. The bill tallied up to $80, prompting us to leave a $10 tip, under the impression that it represented a 10% gratuity. It later came to our attention that the customary tip is actually 20%, an oversight on our part. Despite our genuine willingness to rectify the situation, the ensuing encounter with the server was unexpected and disheartening. Upon presenting the bill, we were met with derogatory remarks, including the unwarranted labeling of our group as "losers" followed by a demand to leave the premises. Blue Anchor has fallen so far off. I've known that for a long time, but it smacked me in the face today. Henry and I went to watch the Tottenham v Man City match while he is home for weekend. We ordered food and beverage. We never got the food. The owner was the person on duty. Completely ignored us for well over an hour. At the end of the match I went to bar to get the bill because I knew she wasn't coming back to our table anytime soon. She asked how it was, and I calmly said in nearly 20 years of supporting the business, it was the worst service we've experienced there. Rather than being an owner concerned about customer experience, she immediately told me to never come back. Her lack of staff to service her bar becomes my problem I guess. I never raised my voice or used any profanity, but was told not to come back because she cannot staff her business or be professional enough to deal with a simple long time customer complaint. This is where my family has convened for nearly 20 years for lunch, dinner and drinks, but never again with the husband and wife who have run it into the ground. read more

I only submit negative reviews when I've experienced an outcome that was so bad that I believed a business could actually materially damage someone. So just know I'm not enjoying this. This is exactly how I wanted my day to go. So I go into The Blue Anchor to inquire about the Jeep and can you please move so I can get on my way? The owner flew into an angry rage. His tirade included such hits as "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?", "THAT'S MY SPOT!" (not his spot, pretty sure he probably has issues with the landlord over this issue) and "FUCK YOU I'LL MOVE IT WHEN I'M DAMN WELL GOOD AND READY." My business partner was completely baffled. It was kind of hilarious in a psychotic way. Neither of us could even get angry because how could you in the face of The Crazy? I just turned around and left. This chick doesn't burn calories engaging The Crazy. Dude FOLLOWS ME OUT VIDEO'ING ME. Super weird! I started to realize I was in real danger of being physically attacked so I called the Delray PD's non-emergency line for an assist. (The dispatcher asked, "Is that the guy that I'm hearing in the background?" Yup.)(Yay me!)The valet from the restaurant I just ate at ran over as well, trying to help minimize the situation. This owner finally moved his Jeep so I could leave but not before creating a situation that had many people's attention. I couldn't even be mad or annoyed. I just left a career as law enforcement dispatcher in California in June to buy a business here in Florida and I immediately recognized The Crazy and knew I was in an un-winnable situation. I just want to inform people - especially women - that this owner is incredibly prone to unhingedness and that you'd be safer grabbing a black and tan at one of the many other fantastic bars and pubs along Atlantic Avenue. It's been Americanised with new ownership and while the decor and charm remain enjoyable, thet no longer carry ESB and the beer and Fish&Chips just dosen't taste like it used too. The food was absolutely magnificent I truly was blown away. Waitress (Peggy) was the nicest person I have ever come across.
