The quality of the food, particularly the desserts, was relatively good. We did the tasting menu…read morenumber 2 and particularly enjoyed the rock shrimp appetizer and the black pepper beef entree as well as the dessert sampler. The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Officially my new favorite restaurant in NYC!…read more Homemade ginger ale 10/10 : amazing and pairs well with everything. Comes in cute glass. Spicy crispy beef 11/10 : perfect. BBQ duck lettuce wraps 10/10 : addictive homemade hoisin sauce. A little smaller portion size than other apps. Pan fried pork buns 8/10 : great but can skip if over-ordering on other things! Hot & sour soup 10/10 : A+ recommendation from the waiter - could clearly tell how high quality the ingredients are. They also split it in half in separate smaller bowls to share easier. Wide rice noodles with bbq duck 9/10 : duck was amazing, noodles still good but would choose fried rice over noodles next time BBQ beef fried rice 11/10 : incredible. Steak was so tender and rice perfect Only annoying things were having to wait 20 mins to sit and the table options aren't ideal (tiny table or squished communal tables), but the food is so good we didn't mind. We cannot stop thinking about this meal!!

Four extremely small dumplings with what seemed like a slaw of carrots, lettuce, and one peanut in each dumpling. Cost to me...$20. I also had some wide rice noodles with vegetables. A few of the vegetables were tiny slices of carrots, celery, and a few - very few - broccoli spears. It came with a spicy chili sauce which made my bald head sweat. $30. The meal shouldn't cost 50 bucks. Maybe 30 bucks. The price restaurants charge now-days is crazy. CRAZY! The price landlords charge for rent is CRAZY! How about everyone just turning the clock back a few years to when the cost of living was somewhat reasonable...

If I had to give the old catch a rating it would be 2/5 stars. However, the new catch, the one that went through a total top down renovation, this place is an easy 5/5. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful, it gives off like a rich yacht vibe, wood accents, green coloring and just a wonderful scenery. They made more space for customers, you don't sit one on top of the other, there's plenty of space and the chairs / booths are super comfortable. The drinks are amazing, they are made extremely well, we quite literally tried everything on the menu, all of it is incredible!!! I love the bao buns, the rolls and sushi a sashimi! Their sea bass is one of the best I ever had, the steak honestly was a let down I would not recommend it, but surprisingly the truffle butter was better than anything I've had from any steak house. The hit me cake is also so much fun and delicious, the fudge is out of this world. We have already been twice and will be looking forward to our third time! They really did a successful turn around

The massaman curry was also flavorful, but a little too sweet for our liking (tasted more like yellow curry, and less of the peanut taste we are used to) Nevertheless, I really liked their GIANT trifold menu and we will definitely be back to try the rest. Amazing ambiance inside (I ADORED the gold hanging decor on the ceiling) Bathrooms were very clean and staff was so efficient and friendly. They refilled water all the time and brought out food very quickly. We were celebrating a birthday but there was nothing brought out, so I don't think they have that kind of service here. It didn't feel super super upscale but also not just your average Thai restaurant. It was very crowded, but we felt like we had adequate space to move around and enjoy our meal.

So when the server asked us what we'd like to drink, we asked for hot water (later found out we were charged $1 for each cup of hot water). We ordered the beef rendang, chicken satay and singapore noodles (with tofu and vegetables). I had been hoping to try the soft shelled crab but perhaps it's out of season or no longer on the menu as I didn't see it. The chicken satay came out first, it was 4 sticks of skewered chicken drenched in a slightly spicy creamy peanut sauce. This was the second favorite dish of the table as the chicken was tender and the peanut sauce paired well with it. The singapore noodles were unexpected the favorite of the table. The flavor profiles weren't too crazy just a simple curry flavor but mixed with the thin noodles and other ingredients, it was savory and not too heavy to eat a lot of. The beef rendang was the last dish to come out, the beef pieces were very tender and this was the spiciest dish out of all 3 that we had ordered. It came with about a bowl's worth of white rice on the side and some cucumbers and purple cabbage salad. It was a pretty okay lunch. Not the best Malaysian food I've had (Chinatown is still the best spot for me) but it's a good spot if you're craving Malaysian food in the west village area. Bathrooms were immaculately clean which is always a plus.
