Honestly a little surprised by the reviews here. Been here twice and no complaints. In short: cozy, friendly, great for people watching. I come exclusively for their New Orleans cold coffee (NOLA) so I can't speak for their other drinks. About $8 for a large. Inside is clean but not so small that it feels like you're on top of the baristas. Stool seating along a window that looks out to W73rd street. About three 2-person seats along the Amsterdam Ave window. In the summer, they have 3-4 tables outside. It's just far enough from the W72nd station where you can people watch without being in the middle of traffic. Staff is friendly and quick. I usually stop by on my way home after picking up some Levian Cookies or Pop Up Bagels in the area. Trader Joe's is nearby so you can get some groceries on your way out. read more

I am impartial to pour over coffee. It's definitely more uncommon in the city. Blue bottle has 2 different beans they make pour over coffee with and they are both great. Much better than your average drip. My wife also got the cherry blossom latte and enjoyed it so much she wanted to go back a couple days later. Huge disappointment and kind of a joke of a place. Pretentious and much too impressed with its over-designed, casually 'whatever' self. You could almost see the smugness of the staff fill the air. No drip coffee was available. I ordered a pour-over which was lukewarm. I was given a refund with no argument, but no apology either. They could not have cared less. I don't drink coffee, so I'd never had Blue Bottle Coffee. But I stopped by this afternoon with my bf and was pleasantly surprised to learn that they now have both Hojicha Latte and Macha Latte on the menu. Macha Latte is pretty common in the city, but it's not as easy to find a good Hojicha Latte, which is actually my favorite drink. When we stopped by at 5:50pm, the store was ready to close, with all of their chairs already placed up on top of the tables and their outdoor seating put away. Since it was a nice day out, we decided to take our drinks to Verdi Square (right by the 72nd St subway station). My Hojicha Latte didn't have a pretty latte heart and it was quite pricey for a small takeaway drink ($6+), but it was excellent, with the perfect balance of hojicha and milk. Staff here is exceptionally kind! Open early which is great. Ample seating and a good view of 72nd street. I order the matcha latte with oat milk and it's been consistently good. The service is fast. I walk by frequently on the weekends and see people sitting outside, even when cold. Will be a hit in the summers for sure, at least I'll be back. A solid place to grab a drink to work, chill, or to go. read more

Lame. The staff was more concerned about prepping for close in 20 minutes and they screwed up our order twice. Paid for a 16oz, they claimed we paid for a 12oz. My receipt shows they didn't care enough to make it right. Drinks were warm but not hot. Flavor is good, but couldn't make it over the minimum bar for service. read more

It was my first time trying out the famous blue bottle coffee cafe! I wanted a vanilla latte but they don't have any flavors! It's alright though. I ended up getting a cold brew, normal hot latte, and a matcha latte. It was so clean and pretty inside. There is a good amount of seating too. The workers seemed to be friendly with eachother and the service was good! I liked the coffee and matcha a lot. I would definitely come here again if I pass by it. read more

I love their seasonal drinks - my favorite right now is their black cardamom latte! The baristas are overall very pleasant. The hours of this location are very convenient for early risers and people working late in the area - and of course for all the students in the area as this is close to Columbia Uni. They have a decent selection of pastires/cookies to choose from and a couple breakfast items on the menu each morning like avocado toast. Their tahiti chocolate chip cookies are wonderful. Seating area usually gets packed quickly - both indoors and outdoors. My only critique is I wish they did add more options to their menu for breakfast items and pastries. Or at least rotate their selection the same way they do with their specialty drinks and coffee. FYI This place might be dog friendly because I do see owners coming in with their pups every once in a while! read more

Really kind staff, and good coffee. Not a lot of flavors, but the hot latte was so good as is! My husband had the sweet latte and it wasn't too sweet, just lightly sweetened and he loved it. This Blue Bottle has an open, airy feel, which makes me miss San Francisco! I am overjoyed that there's a location on the Upper West Side, even though my run-in with Maggie Gyllenhall at the Blue Bottle in Brooklyn last week made my day. She's a sweet Chatty Cathy, by the way. This location has recycling, and COMPOST. This is how we do in SF, and I appreciate how this Blue Bottle is true blue. ;) Clean and minimalist, this BB could use a few extra seats. Four small round tables create an overflow of espresso drinkers, some of which stand, others of which sit on a slim bench by the bathroom. There's counter-seating, but on this day only two stools, where there could be four or even six. If they could figure out seating, this location would be ideal. There's a display of ChemExs and AeroPresses alongside the obligatory somewhat-awkward and pretentious blue and white boxes of Blue Bottle swag, including a $25 mug. (But it's made in Japan!) Understandable, but the take-home grounds and book alone could be saved. (I know this is just me.) Today my single-origin espresso was well-pulled, and my Cortado perfect. If a BB would open up near Columbia, I'd be ecstatic (hint, hint). The baristas were down-to-earth and friendly, the kind who would care enough to know your name. One gave out samples of a heavenly waffle (in love with samples). This BB has both Oat and Almond milk options. Cortado is off-menu, at $4. No WiFi. read more

The espresso here is amazing! Definitely one of my favorite coffee chains in NY. Yesterday, I had an iced oat milk latte and it was truly perfection! I am an oat milk addict as of late and I love that they have it as an option here. NOTE: It is $1 extra for oat milk and almond milk This location doesn't have a ton of seating, but it is perfect for grab and go coffee. I love that their cups are all compostable and they have a compost option for trash in the store. Love that they are doing what they can to protect the environment! I've tried many coffee places in Upper West Side, but I keep coming back to Blue Bottle. I drink my coffee black. I usually prefer their Bella Donovan blend and like to try whatever they have in their pour overs that day. I always grab a bag a coffee beans while I'm there for when I make coffee at home since I can't find their coffee beans at any grocery store here. Also, as someone from the West Coast, I'm SO happy they are close to where I live where I can have a taste of the Bay Area while living in NYC. They even have COMPOST as an option in their garbage. I feel like no one in NYC composts and so happy they are bringing green processes to NYC. read more

After hearing about blue bottle coffee I have wanting to try them out. Didn't had the chance too until now but it was pretty sad experience. When I walked in with a friend a lady greeted at me at the register but as soon as one of the guy employee walked out no hello or anything. The guy was the one that took my order which he was kind of rude. When I paid him in cash he just snatch from my hand. From there it was just sad experience with that. Not just that the coffee was the worst one I have tried! Got cold brew and new Orleans. The cold brew had an after taste and which I end up throwing everything out to garbage. I rather just stick to Starbucks because I could get treated better and be satisfied with it. I only tried the blue bottle coffee was because I was watching Korean show and the people that tried blue bottle coffee said it was much better than Starbucks! Blue Bottle Coffee is one of my favorite coffee chains because of their New Orleans drink - a slightly sweet and creamy cold brew. I came to this location around 11 AM on a Wednesday and there was no line, but the tables were full of people working. Would probably recommend getting there earlier if you're looking to get some work done. Anyway, the barista was fast and friendly and offered me a variety of nondairy milks for my coffee. He didn't even charge me for my oat milk which was a pleasant surprise given that the menu says almond milk is +$1...I'm not complaining. I just wish the sizes were larger for the price. You pay do much for so little :( read more

Location and staff are GREAT! Coffee taste very good, but it's $1 extra for almond milk (Why? Don't know - hopefully it's to save the environment. If it's not this reason, then I think it's silly. Charge .75 cents at least, but not $1). The oat milk has no extra charge FYI. They DO have a clean stocked bathroom (big plus), very little tables (3 Cafe tables and stools for the bar by window). No WIFI!! I can't even log on to public WiFi - this is a big let down for me. I do like that they have sweet and savory food on the menu and not just pastries. They have an avo toast and a ham and cheese baguette sandwich that looks good but they ran out today. I gave it 3 stars and not 5 because of lack of WiFi and because they charge $1 extra for almond milk. But I think the place is super cute. read more

There has been a lot of hype on this coffee spot for a while now. My wife desperately wanted to try it. So we got a latte and new Orleans style with soy milk (for the wife). I think the latte was good but no different from all the other coffe spots around nyc. I would give it a 3.5/5. The new Orleans style wasn't good at all. I wonder if the soy milk made it even more worse but both me and my wife didn't enjoy it. read more

I'm so confused how to write this review. I'm not going to write the cliche "I can't believe I just spent 7.50 on a Mocha Latte.......but I did......and I do more often these days. It really is just fantastic. The size is too small for the cost. Sometimes the baristas get real busy and I'm given coffees (mostly iced), dripping and messy and occasionally they don't offer to clean it up unless you ask.
