People rag on Blank Street for some reason or another, maybe because it's a chain or private equity-owned or some woke shit like that, but you can't deny that this coffee shop makes some pretty damn good drinks. Take their matchas, for example. I appreciate the inventive flavors Blank Street comes out with each season, from the intriguing yet polarizing cookies and cream matcha, to the cozy banana bread matcha of the fall. I've tried the latter, actually, and it was very good. You really do taste the banana bread, and it oddly doesn't clash with the matcha flavor. (I didn't get the chance to try the former, as my husband was quite leery of it and judged me hard for even considering it). The most recent matcha flavor I tried was their strawberry madeline latte, which was so good I practically drank it in one gulp. The madeline came through as a tender vanilla base, the strawberry like freshly canned preserves, and the matcha a subtle backdrop to it all. I loved it. Chronically-online controversy be damned. I'm not sticking my nose up on a chain. It's better than going to Starbucks, that's for sure. read more

Blank street is always really consistent in their drinks and I like the size of the menu they have. This location is on the smaller end with no tables so it's definitely a grab and go situation. I stopped by Blank Street (80th/Lex) to finally try one of their their matcha lattes and went with the Blueberry Matcha with oat milk. It's not cheap at $6.15 for a small, but they don't charge extra for non-dairy milk, and the small is pretty small, but the drink itself is very good. It's a great coffee alternative: sweet but not overly so, and the blueberry flavor is subtle enough that it blends smoothly with the matcha without overpowering it. With the oat milk, the usual strong, earthy matcha taste is much more mellow. I would recommend this flavor or one of the others as a sweet treat, especially if you like flavored matcha or want something different from your usual order. I'm already looking forward to trying their other matcha flavors. read more

Blank Street Coffee 1173 Lexington has been open a couple months. First off the dogs are allowed which in the small space is a nuisance. It's especially annoying when it's a big dog. They cater to dog owners. Second they don't have anywhere to sit. Nor do they have a place for you to fix your coffee. I asked for a stirrer and they didn't have any! I prepared my coffee and went to the church courtyard nearby. The coffee is good but nothing about it strikes me as that enticing to get me to return frequently. Today I hadn't had my coffee by almost 8:30am so this was as good as any. Although the employees were nice I won't be back to this location. Besides they don't take cash either. I hate to charge small amounts to my credit card. The pastries are typical and expensive for me. I'm sure the people in the neighborhood will support this place. Especially the dog owners! read more

Nice neighborhood coffee shop. It's more of an "on the go" coffee shop, as there are no seats or tables inside. Also, note it is a smaller shop--so people often have to wait outside if there are more than 3 customers inside. Very friendly baristas and amazing pastries (the almond croissant is amazing!). The coffee is good, and provides a great flavor profile (once brewed correctly). If you're in the area, I'd recommend giving it a try. It's usually my go to coffee shop. read more

Both were fine, the croissant was kind of dry and I wish they warmed it up but the hot chocolate was good, rich and creamy. A great coffee place! I've stopped by here in person and also ordered through delivery apps. My favorite drink is the iced latte. I've had it with and without the honey and I find that with the honey, it's a bit too sweet for me. The cold brew is also great. The cold brew and latte use different beans, one has more fruity notes (latte) and the other is more chocolate-y (cold brew) - so your preference really depends on your taste buds. I also like the chai latte. I've also tried the mocha which was quite good although not my go-to drink. I usually make my own cappuccino at home every morning but gave theirs a shot - it was fine but I think I'll stick to making my own cappuccino. I've also tried their rose drink and elderberry drink - both of which I did not like. But my partner tried it and enjoyed both. read more

No real opinion here, the coffee was fine, very tiny. I'll say my experience was a bit swayed by the lady with the German Sheppard taking up half the store, which is not their fault but still. It's very affordable, but I got an americano and its seems like they prep espressos even though it wasn't busy because they were all lined up waiting. So my coffee wasn't exactly hot. I am so so happy that this Blank Street Coffee location has opened in the heart of the Upper East Side! This unsuspecting gem sits on the corner of 80th and Lex, so be sure to make your way over for your morning weekday coffee or on your way to a walk through Central Park. I was pleasantly surprised to see some enticing holiday seasonal drink options in addition to the standard coffee shop menu. There is also a good selection of pastries available in the store (the chocolate chip cookies looked great). I decided to order my drink through the app just before arriving, and the barista was wrapping up making it as soon as I walked in. She was super nice and I was excited to meet an employee on my first visit into the shop. I got the Smores Latte with oat milk and a tripe shot and loved it. The balance of the extra shot (I believe standard is 2 and an extra shot is $1) make the sweetness level perfect, it wasn't at all overwhelming. We did order a large and extra hot, and I didn't find the size particularly big or the drink particularly hot. Pro tip- when you download the app you're able to get a free drink! While their small latte comes with a steep price tag of $7, I was surprised to see their espresso machine is of the automated push-button variety, rather than the classic manual type. Iced Honey Rose Latte with Oat milk ... such a lightly sweet taste without being overpowered by coffee that it was perfect for me. The service was good enough. The guy that served me wasn't that friendly, but the other barista was quite pleasant. However, they didn't seem real experts in what they were doing. I love the taste and quality of Blank Street coffees! It always arrives quickly and still hot. Their lids keep spills to a minimum but they also go the extra mile by wrapping the coffee cups in plastic wrap to ensure not a drop is lost during delivery. This place dresses itself up as a real coffee shops but the truth could not be farther from that. Their baristas wouldn't know good coffee if it hit them upside the head! A few months ago I ordered a caramel hot chocolate, only to receive a chunky, lukewarm excuse of a "drink". To-day, I ordered a honey rose latte. What did I receive? A lukewarm, normal latte, that tasted more of milk than anything else. If you care even the slightest bit about the coffee you drink, I'd advise you to steer clear of Blank Street.
