Dalek Delight--a terrific sandwich
Robert S.

Another fun visit, and it took only a couple hours to get here from Chicago (#78 Montrose to Blue Line, Blue Line to Rosemont, #603 Elgin, then a short walk from the terminal to the restaurant). We had more fun this second trip--obviously, the fall weather was better for walking around Elgin's tiny downtown than January. The cafe was busy, with almost every table taken. I had the Dalek Delight, one of the tastiest sandwiches I've eaten. It's a small sandwich (all of their sandwiches are small), but flavorful and they have coleslaw now as part of a meal deal. For this being a Dr. Who-themed place, there's not nearly as much decoration nor memorabilia. The place is clean and bright, but maybe paint a mural?

Blue Box Salad

Such a cool vibe in this place, you just know it's going to be good. It been on my radar forever and we finally got there. Seeing so many rave reviews on the Turkey Reuben how could I get anything else. So that's what I did, my wife got a Blue Box Salad. The only negative i had is I wish they had some sides other then just chips, gimme some slaw or potatoe salad or something. I love slaw as a condiment, it's would be killer on their sandwiches well. Anyway they do have a great Hibiscus Berry iced tea. The reuben was really good, really well cooked, perfectly deep brown and yummy and my wife loved her salad, it was very very fresh and full. Overall a great experience, everyone working was really chill and cool, great service. Fun atmosphere, loved it.

Jack Harkness And The Veggielicious

Blue Box Cafe is the best coffee shop in Elgin. It has a good amount to choose from. Plenty of food here such as sandwiches. Cool concept. This is the place to go if you like Doctor Who. Apparently this place is run by nerds, so you can get a bit of quirky knowledge along with coffee. It may be the only Doctor Who themed cafe anywhere around here. This certainly may be a thing in Britain but over here not as much. Maybe the owners are British. Who knows. Anyway it's cool. The best coffee is the Jack Harkness. It's $4.50 for a cup. This is made with cherries and dark chocolate, tasty. Also they have some decent food. They have something called the Veggielicious. It's about $9 and has a lot on it. There's avocados, balsamic dressing, eggplant, lettuce, red onions, Swiss, tomatoes, and zucchini. It's vegan without cheese. The ingredients combine for creaminess and make for a good lunch. Check it out if you like BBC. It's the television channel to which I'm referring. That's where you can watch all these British shows and stuff.

I visited Elgin today and stopped here. I love the Dr. Who theme, but the food I had was also very delicious. I got the Veggielicious sandwich and I highly recommend it! Staff is very friendly and its a nice quiet atmosphere filled with fun Dr. Who decor.

Was visiting Elgin for the day and saw on yelp they had gluten free bread. The bread was crispy, savory, and the tuna inside was amazing. Service was a bit rushed when I ordered but it was very busy. Wish more things on the menu like soups were gluten free. The place has great ambiance and highly recommend to anyone looking for a good cheap bite!

Turkey Reuben Sandwich (5/5 stars)

I've been going to Blue Box for a couple years and the only sandwich I've ever tried is the Turkey Reuben because it is so good. What makes the sandwich stand out is the toasted rye bread and coleslaw. The sandwich is filling and makes for a great lunch. Pro tip: Call ahead for faster service. The cafe can get busy; even then, the staff are consistently friendly and helpful.

The Melted Goodness!!!! You pick three cheeses!

A cute little cafe with coffee drinks, pastries and some sandwiches. It is Doctor Who themed. Which they did a super cute job designing the place. They also have episodes playing on tv. The staff is very friendly and I recommend the grilled cheese sandwich it's huge and super cheesy. Totally will stop in again when I am in the area.

Turkey Reuben Sandwich $8 is the BEST here!! I crave I for days.

There's some quite unusual flavors so you can come back a few times. Coming here the first time it was kind of confusing. It's located on one side of the entrance. There's a bit of a passage to get through. Has mostly gelatos. There's also a few sorbets at times. It's about $5 a scoop, but there's much more than just bowls and cones. They make milkshakes and even have hot and iced coffee including Turkish. Crepes are one of the main items. These are filled with chocolate, Nutella, or basically whatever. Also they have dip sticks, which is fruit on skewers dipped in chocolate. They also make lava cake and other big items. Got a lot of sweet stuff to both drink and eat. It's located on Douglas close to Highland. There's a lot of more unusual flavors, along with more common ones, so it has a pretty big variety.

And the bottom of the crepe was so overcooked that it was hard to cut through. Everyone agreed that it was like a tortilla on bottom They were all welcoming and the place clean. I just wouldn't return.
