Food is always great here! Every time we visit Key West we eat here. Love the "live"music, service is great and it's very chill. My only complaint is the roosters walk all around the restaurant and use the restroom around the tables which is obviously not appetizing. Just went here for the first time today for brunch. We had to wait one hour but we were able to walk around until then. The benedict here is highly recommended so I got the surf and turf. This was hands down the absolute best eggs benedict I've EVER had. I had heard so many incredible things about this place and somehow, it exceeded my expectations in every way. It's absolutely adorable in here, both the outside and inside dining area. The first brunch we had, we split the lobster benny which was a brilliant idea. It's a ton of food! Outrageously delicious but very filling. Still, not filling enough to put us off our long-anticipated key lime pie. It really is the best on the island. Moondog Cafe comes in at a very close second for me but this here was BLISS. Died and gone to foodie blue heaven! The cocktails were top tier as was the service all around. When you visit, be sure to head upstairs and check out the peep holes and other rooms. The old safe and shower are so fun too. We went back a second time for brunch but unfortunately I didn't snap a photo of that... it was the Florida shrimp omelet that they only serve on Sundays. Breakfast: I'll start with what I had. Shrimp and Grits were absolutely amazing. Came with banana bread and butter, which was also very, very good. My wife had the egg meal etc, everything was extremely good...and the potatoes she raved about. I know, crazy, ha, but they were that good. Daughter and son had fried eggs, both done perfectly, they were excellent. We had to have a piece of Key Lime Pie. They use meringue (spelling) which was crazy huge and decorative. It was as light as you can get it. The pie was more tart than sweet, but balanced, 9.5 out of 10, but only because I prefer whip cream, but the meringue was as good as it gets. 4 star food with 5-plus overall for the setting, service, and overall impression. Reservations recommended at night but I walked in and it was not busy (12/3 around 6:00). "In" isn't correct; I dined outside, though there is a small inside too that I didn't check out. A canopy of sprawling trees overhead, copiously bespeckled with twinkle lights which provided most of the ambient light, not much more than full moon. Floor of rough bricks, some areas simply fine sand. What a magical place, surely augmented by arriving at night, so dimly lit that much was left to my imagination. A sense of humor and history too. My table was next to a fenced in grave, the sign informing "Where Hemingway buried his cock." It's true; on the grounds is a cemetery for the descendents of roosters brought by Hemingway for his depraved entertainment. In this grave lay Coach, ?-2010. Rest in peace. Waiter Ryan was great and had a habit of calling me "my friend". Helpful with my questions about the menu and had good recommendations. Available when I needed him, and even came by to apologize that the runner brought my entree out before I had quite finished my first course. In truth I took a long time with it though, while taking photos and notes. No matter, but the gesture was most appreciated. On to the food. I started with a salad: miso baked eggplant, greens, goat cheese with orange vinaigrette. Unique. The eggplant was soft in a single large piece, sweet from the miso. The greens underneath pleasingly bitter and thin wide carrot shavings provided color and texture. My only negative - minor - is the cheese was curiously unassertive for chevre. The entree was a grouper special of the day. Miso-roasted, with a citrus buerre blanc sauce, microgreens, bok choy, jasmine rice, edible blossoms on top. Very good, the only flaw being that the fish was just slightly overcooked. A very generous portion, both the fish and the rice. And not a light dish by any means due to the buerre blanc. So good I did finish it all except for the cornbread. Which was not necessary in my opinion and average at best, dry and monotonous. My drink was a Hemingway Old Fashioned. In my top 10. A huge wine list including some with prices up to $780 a bottle! Of course more affordable ones too and an ample selection by the glass. My Argentinian pinot noir at $11 was below the going rate these days. Music: not the Margaritaville style I expected in Key west but so much better: a jazz vocalist duo with guitars playing quiet tunes the entire time I was there. I looked for the tip jar but didn't see one. Dessert was slightly disappointing but I got the key lime pie - of course. It was topped with an excessive layer of bruleed meringue which contributed nothing, and I removed most of it. A fruit sauce would be so much better. The pie filling was ok but just ordinary. Overall impression: fantastic. Would love to return someday. read more

What a special place. Treated my dad to a 70th birthday meal here and it was amazing. First let me say our waiter went above and beyond. When I asked for a Coke, he said they only had Pepsi, and I thanked him and said that is OK. When he came back with our drink orders, he had a Coke for me. They ran across to the store and got me one. Come on, how amazing was that? We sat outside with the chickens, which we loved, in their beautiful terrace. This place is charming. Loved the outdoor setting under the canopy of trees with live music. This is a popular place so come early or be prepared for a wait. I was here the Monday before thanksgiving and while I had a wait it was under 30 minutes. I love the cafe they have across the street too if you just want coffee and a baked treat. The food was fresh and good. The service was good too- they have a system that really seems to work and handle the large crowds that come there. I had a standard egg breakfast but would love to come back and explore the menu, they had some interesting specials. I ordered their banana bread to go and while it was good I wouldn't say it was great and unfortunately my pieces were a little too brown on the edges. But luckily not dried out. Not sure I get the popularity of their banana bread but perhaps I just had a bad batch. This is a fun place to have brunch and I recommend it. My sister and I on a girls weekend trip visited Key West visited Blue Heaven. We arrived around 11:00 am. Our wait was approximately 1 hr. We waited across the street and listened to live music with a bar offering small bites (cash only). When we got our table Stefan was our waiter. This is an outdoor restaurant with large umbrellas. He was simply the nicest guy & appropriately attentive. We shared our meals-we ordered shrimp & grits and a veggie omelette with banana bread and wheat toast. Both were very good. The shrimp had tails on (boo) and could have a bit more sauce. I would have loved the grits to be creamy cheese grits (sorry I was daydreaming). The omelet eggs were cooked too hard and it was not a true omelet as the veggies were under the eggs not inside. But the banana bread was the silent hit! We each took home a fresh baked loaf!!! Delicious breakfast is a very cool setting. We stopped by for breakfast and were very pleased. Service was prompt and friendly. There are multiple eating locations at Blue Heaven. If possible, wait for the outside seating as you are surrounded by tropical trees in a very chill area. The other seating area is around the corner in a small cafe. While this is not the great outside area, it is a cozy cafe with the same delicious food.  Blue Heaven has perfected breakfast. Richard's Very good Pancakes are the perfect pancakes and my wife is still talking about them a week later. I had the Rooster special- 2 eggs, potatoes, bacon, and multigrain (thick fresh baked bread) toast. The over-easy eggs were actually "over-easy," which is a challenge at most breakfast places. Dog friendly patio. Went for breakfast (and forgot to try the key lime pie!) on a Saturday morning. Honestly didn't have to wait that long; maybe 20 mins but they have a sister bar across the street so we were able to hang out and drink bloody Mary's while we waited. Service was pretty good at the restaurant - They had a bunch of coffee drinks on the menu and were able to make them decaf for me which was nice. We got the Eggs Benedict - My husband got the lobster and steak one and I got the...well I don't remember (maybe crab?) but it was good. The presentation wasn't anything special, especially for how expensive it was. I think my husband's was $28 and mine was $24. For an English muffin, split in half, 2 eggs and a little meat, I would've expected more (like a side of potatoes or something). There was one small slice of strawberry and a bit size slice of pineapple on the plate to "spice" things up I suppose. Anyways, probably wouldn't go back for the food, but would go back for the cocktails, live music, and atmosphere. read more
