Of course I had to stop by blue heaven for some key lime pie while on my first trip to key west. Was not disappointed. I'm not a huge fan of meringue. Not their fault they did it perfectly. Just my taste. Despite my not being a fan of meringue theirs was by far the best slice of the three I tried while in town. It was absolutely delicious! I could have skipped the others and just gotten a whole pie from blue heaven. Light creamy well balanced flavor. As a side to my dessert I had the key lime martini. I really don't get all the likes with this restaurant. There is a long wait, no reservations. Trust, I do not recommend waiting, it's not worth it. The food was not good and the service was slow. Been coming to Blue Heaven for the last 20 years. It used to be a fantastic experience with incredible food and great service. We would wait a couple of hours to get in for their amazing breakfasts, bean dishes, and fresh fish. Today was the last time we'll come here. We were served a dry chicken salad sandwich with no side and a mahi sandwich with cold potato bits. The square piece of mahi came from a frozen box and had more bun than fish. The server really didn't want to be there. She had no interest in actually helping us, but definitely wanted to turn over the table. No drink refills or suggestions to eat. There are too many better restaurants in town that actually want your business. Blue Heaven is skating on serving cheaper food for higher pricing and turning tables as quickly as possible. read more

Call it 4.5 but I am rounding up. First, you need to know that they do not take reservations (at least for smaller parties) which means that you will probably be waiting. And you will probably be waiting for a very long time. Know before you go. For Saturday brunch (probably one of the busiest times), we waited about 90 minutes. Fortunately, Andy's Cabana--a small, cozy, outdoor waiting/seating area--is located directly across the street and the Bloody Marys are great, the banana bread is fresh, and the music is laid back and wonderful. There's also a ping pong table in the back. By the way, Andy's Cabana is cash only. Blue Heaven accepts credit cards. After a couple of Bloodys and with any luck, your table at Blue Heaven will be ready. Our server was wonderful and gave us great recommendations. The setting is lovely. There's more live music and there are trees and leaves and, most likely, roosters strolling around. On a nice day, it's wonderful to eat outside. I thought the food was good to very good but it didn't blow me away. I'm giving the restaurant 5 stars because the setting is wonderful, our service was great, and and the food was darn good. The "Very Good Pancakes" were, in fact, pretty darn good and my shrimp benedict was also very good. Also, I recommend dining with roosters. read more

During our weekend gateway to the keys we passed by in front of this restaurant and saw that was packed. So we decided to go the day after for breakfast. We waited around 20 Mts for our table on a Monday morning for breakfast. The place is so unique, love the landscaping, the big tree, the music and the roosters. Once we sat service was very quickly and the servers were very nice. The place has a great ambiance. I can imagine it will be prettier at night. We ordered the lobster Benedict's, the blueberry pancakes and the rooster special. They did not have good options for coffee so I had the fresh orange juice. We stopped by Blue Heaven on our last day in Key West for brunch because their key lime pie is a must try, and they're dog friendly. Blue Heaven is a popular brunch spot. We knew what we were getting going in, so we were prepared to wait. The wait to get a table wasn't too bad, probably about 25 minutes. The seating area had lots of shade, which was already great. But our host went one better and sat us on a small, elevated deck with a roof and everything. There were fans built in the corners of the roof. It was perfect for our dog, who was really feeling the heat that day. My husband and I quickly decided what we wanted and placed our orders with our server. Food did take a long time to come. Maybe another 30 minutes? When the food did come, the portions were huge. The food was above average. And the key lime pie? I have to say, above average, too. The service was great. We had the best table in the house, and our server was very nice, even though it was not easy to get his attention at times. It is what it is, Blue Heaven is a bustling brunch spot. It was laundry day so we were out early and had asked the camp host at NAS Sigsbee where a good place for breakfast was she recommended Blue Heaven. I came here just for the Key Lime pie based upon all the recommendations from Yelp and locals alike. I like to try a couple KLP's each time I come down to Key West in my search for the best one. This trip, it's Blue Heaven and Kermit's (which I've had before). I sat at the bar, which was pretty busy but the server was on top of everyone's orders. The couple next to me got what looked like lobster egg Benedict and it looked AMAZING. They said it was great - I should have got it, but, alas, I'm here for the pie. It's not a popular opinion, but I just didn't care for it. Beyond the meringue, which isn't my preference, the key lime portion was more sweet than tart. I just prefer a little more tart. The crust was heavier / more dense than I like. I've tried to go here several times for breakfast. Successfully this time with 2 of my sisters. Our wait was an hour, thankfully they've got a full service bar across the street to wait at. We were seated on the patio which was adequately covered in shade. We all ordered a version of the lobster Benedict. The lobster was extremely overcooked, it felt like trying to chew on rubber bands. I believe they're know for their "Benny's" but they were not worth the price. The food was also served luke warm. The lime hollandaise didn't have much flavor. Our waiter was attentive, I believe his name was Jake, he did a good job.
