Had the portobello panini, and my wife had the giro, both were delicious. My panini left me wanting slightly larger portion, which is unusual for me. Beer and wine selection is good. Bathroom was hilarious in that it was clean and well maintained but covered floor to ceiling is small graffiti, A bizarre juxtaposition. The restaurant decor was open, colorful, and welcoming. Excellent Greek food, a welcome surprise for a small town! The Gyro plate was delicious, with flavorful meat topped with tzatziki sauce. Came with a side salad and warm pita. The Mezze Sampler was also delicious, with four sauces, olives, and warm pita. One orders at the counter and food service is prompt. Would benefit from a larger draft beer selection (currently two). I love Middle Eastern food. This place is lovely, so promising. Like you have to test the egg roll at a Chinese restaurant, you have to test the hummus at a Middle Eastern restaurant. It was not awful but more than disappointing - and scanty! I ordered a Mezza Platter which came with Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Muhammara (a Red Pepper reduction) and something that shouldn't have been on the platter called "pomegranate sauce" which was sour cream and pomegranate syrup and didn't go with anything on the plate. No more than 2 tablespoons, if that, came in a tiny little serving dish . I have never seen so little Hummus served at any restaurant in 70 years!!! There was alot of bread and the plate looked pretty. Before I was served I also had some beautiful looking desserts boxed to take home. They are all soggy and weird tasting. The tea was good, it was a nice place to sit, the service was considerate. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing but how can you go wrong ordering a Mezza Plate in a Middle Eastern (Mediteranean) restaurant? Nest time I'm in Veronia, Or, I'm trying another place! read more

Had to be in Vernonia for a meeting (yeah, who did I piss off in the Karma Dept.? LOL) and knew that we would be famished by the end of it. Was really surprised by the amount of dining choices that existed in such a small town. Put our faith in Yelp and saw that Blue House was not only unique as far as menu options / cuisine, but it was damn popular with locals and visitors alike. Funky and welcoming space with decor that reflects its Mediterranean roots, inside bike parking, outdoor seating, decent prices, friendly staff, quality food, and a cool vibe. Order at the counter, take a seat, and prepare to be amazed. The veggies all tasted homegrown...so fresh and bursting with flavour. The "bun" on my burger was the perfect combination of crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Freshly made, quality patty. Mint tea was perfect. Too full for afters, but they offer a nice selection of sweets. Most amazing feta cheese!! Bought a box of cardamon tea bags for home. Wrote on the bathroom wall and vowed to be back. Great Armenian family owns the place. Great folks who really know how to share amazing food and run a business. read more

Sometimes things have to be done the hard way. I just pulled in to Veronica after a 22 mile trail ride. With sweaty, fumbling hands and aching muscles I fumbled through my "summit pack" and shakily retrieved my keys and U-lock and hitched my bicycle to a post. Then, I walked into Blue House and saw bikes parked inside, so I turned around and went back out to get my bike. After doing thus, I noticed my rear tire was low, so I took out my 'lil pumper and started pumping away at my stupid, European valve. Oh, snap! My tire went from low to dead flat in seconds. I could not get a damn seal on the thing. Two young, mustachioed gentlemen Blue House employees came to my aid, offering the use of a different pump, advice on where to get help in town, and the suggestion to use my foot on the foot pedal pump rather than my hands. After I ordered my food and it came out I was still pumping away with zero results other than a good upper-arm workout, and like any good caregiver, I was told, "you know, why not come back to it on a full stomach?" Gandhi and Buddha combined have not produced such unimpeachable wisdom! With every mouthful of dolmes, carrot salad and peter bread I told myself, "it get 'mo bedda. It get mo bedda." The bitter greens topped with carrot puree sauce was the very best salad I've had all year. Ditto the dolmes, fill of steamy, moist rice and lamb. The casual, funky-colored, hippie ambiance combined with ready kindness of staff willing to help with anything from pumping up a tire to filling your water bag make this joint the gem in Veronica's crown. I want to thank those lads, plus Hernando, the gentleman who made hitching a ride easy after my tire went flat again in the middle of nowhere and I'd already hiked several miles on the trail with the prospect of 13 more to go. That sounds bad, but ask yourself, what makes a disaster? The day was warm. The sweet scent of Queen Anne's Lace was all over the trail, which I had to myself. Even if I had to hike all the way back to my car in the dark, I would have the stars and the voices of crickets to guide me, and if I was too tired for that I could law down in some tall grass beside a farmer's field and sleep like a baby deer. One must simply resign oneself to what is necessary, and everything else becomes simple and easy in an instant. Thanks again Blue House. I'll be back again...this time with two full tires. read more

We've been here twice now and want to make this a regular stop. Everything here is top notch...the tea, the salad, the hummus, the meat, the tzatziki...and it's all geared toward cyclists. They have ample INDOOR bike parking and plenty of self-serve water for filling bottles. The prices are reasonable, even if not rock bottom. And they play good music over their system. Most importantly though, all the food is very fresh and made to order. A meal or a tea here is a perfect "reward" for riding the Banks-Vernonia Trail. read more

Beautifully decorated in middle eastern colors and tapastries, the Blue House Cafe is warm, inviting, and has a menu suited for anyone. Order something seemingly mundane, in my case, the granola and yogurt, and find yourself thinking "this is the best granola and yogurt I've ever had...". Your experience will be accompanied by the low conversations in Armenian of the family that owns it fastidiously preparing your food or drink with care. This place is so good, it's worth driving all the way out to little Vernonia just to get to spend time in this perfect spot while dining on perfect middle eastern cuisine. This is the best Greek food ever! We have actually driven from Portland to Vernonia for the sole purpose of eating at this great restaurant. (we even used to dive out to their old location - but after the flooding they decided to move into town...on the main drag - which I think was a stellar move!!) You will love the owners and the people who work for them are wonderful. We always get the lamb plate...and it is AMAZING! I am attaching a few photos from the last few times we were there. Second visit, a couple of years apart. Don't let the very casual interior fool you...The gyros are still excellent, full, very fresh veggies and really nice pita. The tzatziki is spectacular! This was a tough one for me to evaluate. Part of me wants to give 4 stars, part of me wants to give 5. Damn you, Yelp, and your lack of .5 stars! Ahem...anyway, when I go riding on the ol' Harley, it's nice to find places to eat that road friendly but not just full of bikers. Quite frankly, I am not really a biker in a traditional sense. I fit in with bikers, but I don't want to stop at a biker bar every time I get food while on a ride. My wife feels the same way, so we like to look for places before we head out. This last ride went through only one town (besides my hometown, where we started the ride), and that was Vernonia. We, of course, check Yelp for places in the area. Hmmm...a Mediterranean/Greek shop? Worth a shot. We walked in, and the place seemed quite large for a counter service establishment. It sort of looks like it was a converted auto repair shop or warehouse of some sort. But they made the place look nice and open. I got flatbread, and the better half got a gyro. I am not a big fan of gyros, but this was really tasty. And the flatbread? Really well made, nice topping, and freshly prepared. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and the food was reasonably priced. The perfect stop for food with riding gear on without being a biker joint. So why not 5 stars? I asked myself if I would tell someone to go out of their way to go here. It is about 20 minutes out of the way from the drive to the coast on 26. Mmmm...maybe? Hence the 4, but really 4.5 stars. I WILL be back again! read more

I was actually able to go on a street motorcycle ride and I went to Vernonia-Mist ride out Hwy 47. I actually started south from Beaverton and then loop'd up from Hwy 6 to 26 to 47. By the time I got to Vernonia I was getting hungry. The normal place I go to was closed....so I thought I'd have to wait until Mist....but out of the corner of my eye on the side of the road I saw a sign that said Gyros and Espresso. I got on the brakes and swung a u-turn. Pulled in and was pleasantly surprised. The case was full of desserts and bacclava. I ordered a standard gyros sandwich it was pilled high with vegetables and lamb covered in sauce. Service was quick and efficient. Friendly. It was great. I hope this place sticks around and its definitely a destination for me on future rides. read more

EASILY the best place in town for fantastic tasting food with a friendly staff. I work in Vernonia and eat lunch here every day it's open (closed on mondays, so I have to resort to a bar just a couple blocks away). I haven't had a single menu item that I didn't like, and I've had almost the entire menu by now. Indoor bicycle parking Beautiful patio for outdoor dining Gorgeously artistic decorations everywhere inside and out Piano setup for anybody to play Free water tap for you to serve yourself and/or fill up water bottles for your ride Free wifi (password is vakik) Family owned and ran VERY cyclist friendly delicious dessert selection (tiramisu, baklava, amaretto eclair, and more) all made fresh by them. All the entrees are under $10. I don't think any drink is over $5 (not sure about the wine) I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for my food. It's usually out in 10 or less, depending on how busy they are. Hands down my favorite place to eat in Vernonia. I highly recommend it to anybody that is stopping anywhere near Vernonia. read more

This is a great place to rest and recharge your energy supply if you are doing the Banks-Vernonia biking trail. This trail is about a 40 round trip bike ride. You start the bike ride in Banks and once you've hit Vernonia, it's been about a 20mile ride and Blue House is waiting for you there! The food is SO delicious here! I recommend everything! I wasn't a big fan of their authentic Mediterranean drink with raisins and pine nuts, but everything else I'd had here has been amazing!! I particularly like the hummus, pita bread, couscous, and the dolmas!! There's also an indoor bike rack where you can park your bike and keep an eye on it. It's also a nice restroom stop break. The walls of the restroom is filled with graffiti, people leaving their mark that they have been there. All customers are welcomed to write on the wall, so leave your legacy there too! read more

I stopped here with my family while cycling from Banks to Vernonia and back. There is a huge outdoor seating area and lots of space indoors as well. As a cyclist, I was amazed to see that they had a bike rack inside in addition to the one outside. The coffee was great and the staff was extremely friendly. Really really good vegetarian mezza plate and dolmas with sauce, rose lemonade, and baklava. At our request they swapped out the baba ganoush for avocadoes. Food was *outstanding*, just taking off one star for ambience ... Dining room was fine and homey. Restroom seemed clean enough but I was put off by the Sharpie graffiti (apparently encouraged by the house) all over the walls floor to ceiling, and busing my own table is not my favorite way to end a meal. I stopped by here on a motorcycle ride through the coast range to grab a gyro. The space is a bit big and industrial looking. The few tables are spaced way apart so you feel like you are sitting in someones garage. They have a fairly small menu consisting mainly of gyros and other flatbread type items. They also have italian sodas, typical greek style desserts, coffees and appetizers. I got the gyro (of course) and my mate got a flatbread concoction that sortof looked like a pizza. My gyro was great, just as good if not really better than the Mad Greek. The lamb was very flavorful. Their tsatziki was full of fresh dill, yum! The flatbread concoction was really great, too. It tasted of olive, garlic and all good things. The flatbread was soft and chewy, very fresh. I would definitely go back, I just wish the place was a bit cozier. read more

This place was a gem in the middle of the mountains. Driving from St. Helens to Cannon Beach, we came across this funky little town in the middle of the mountains with this funky little place. Think of a coffee bar on steroids with some pretty great food and a very reasonable price. They were even able to accommodate my wife's dietary restrictions with ease. I'd definitely return, but given the rarity of my trips between St. helens and Cannon Beach, it may be a while. read more
