This morning i had no idea where we were going to breakfast. The wife used memory i.s.o of GPS and we got there. I walked in the door and the first thing that came that came to mind was the Diner in Back to the Future. I was almost expecting Biff to come in the front door to nag Marty McFly at the soda fountain. The only difference was that there was a wide sellection of (close to) top shelf adult beverages placed prominently on a shelf. The only thing missing was a juke box, but the music selection was still good. It took me a long time to figure out what i wanted. I finally decided on the Blue Moon Scramble. This turned out to be a VERY good choice. There were peppers, onions, eggs and bacon which were scrambled (obviously) with a side of toast and jelly. It was a massive portion. I have my lunch for tomorrow and was very satisfying. The coffee was amazing. I never take my coffee black, but this coffee was very smooth and not bitter at all. The only reason why i didn't give 5 stars was because i had to wait a little for my refills. The coffee cups were much to tiny. Other than that, i rank this place up with Sweet Jam, and Antoni's. I've driven by this diner for some time thinking it's just like any other streetcar diner and a big thanks to my neighbor DJ for recommending it we walked in and the ac was cool and the atmosphere was inviting On a hot day I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was probably the tastiest chicken fried steak I've eaten not the biggest but tastiest for sure the mashed potatoes are made fresh with a chunky both to it both topped with a creamy gravy with pieces of meat a soft roll which I made A slider it was delicious our waitress was very nice attentive and friendly I do recommend this place and I'm definitely returning.... read more

I hate giving poor reviews, the food is great and would recommend the food. The service is rude, I typically get ignored for 5-10 minutes at the door waiting to be sat and waitresses are not polite which is what affects my review. The environment and diner is almost identical the Stardust in Vancouver which is a great place to go, awesome service. But I live in Beaverton now. The other has plenty of staff to manage customers coming in and staying. If Blue Moon Diner had more than 2 waitresses, they would probably improve. I hope I get to update/ change this review in the future to a 5 star. I may go back for the food. read more

This morning was my first visit here - I am far from a breakfast person but today I was really in the mood for Hash browns. My friend and I stopped here and its such a cute old school diner. In the same parking lot as Popeyes, Roxy's and the Party Store. As soon as you walk in there's a sign that states "Please Seat Yourself". We sat immediately on the right side booth. It was pretty empty. Maybe 2-3 other tables taken up. Only saw one waiter - don't remember her name but she was very accommodating and pleasant. A few older gentlemen came in a few minutes after us and they seemed to be repeated customers (they kept joking with the waitress and telling her she needed to give them the update on her life). I ordered the - Country fried steak with 2 eggs. $14.99 It came with toast, fried steak, eggs and hash brown. (I had ate the toast before I remembered to take a pic. lol) I requested for the Hash browns to be crispy and they were PERFECT! The sauce gravy was extremely good. It was a great breakfast in general. My friend ordered their Blue Moon Omelettes and it looked really good. She enjoyed it! They have some pies up front to order, cinnamon rolls, cookies and brownies. My husband and I used to frequent this establishment and always enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. Last night, 02/11/2022 was our final visit! We took our daughter and grandsons out for dinner and it was HORRIBLE! The food wasn't good at all. The service was the worst ever. We ordered appetizers and they didn't arrive until we were about half way done with our dinner...what little we ate, anyway. Never once were we checked on to see how we were doing, and when we were out of water, my husband had to go and ask for some. I did talk with one of the gals working there about somethin on the menu as my daughter was in the bathroom being sick. The girl wasn't very up on things. My daughter has issues with gluten and dairy products, and ordered potato pancakes...there was NO mention of their being cheese inside and after one bite, she wasn't well. I asked the girl if she could mention that somebody put that on the menu. I also asked if they make their potato pancakes with flour. I never have, and I know many restaurants that don't use flour. She just kind of got annoyed and stated that they don't have anything gluten free on the menu and we should have asked first. Hello??? I didn't realize we had to ask. The last time we visited in December, 2022, everything was good as usual. I don't know what's happened in such a short time, but last nights visit definitely a huge waste of time and money, and our daughter got sick! read more

I am going to start by saying this whole experience was surreal. And the food is good. And the people are nice and tried hard. Warning: long. Tl/dnr: Caution: give them a month. I was in for breakfast on a Sunday morning with a companion. We arrived about ten am or a bit before. The help wanted sign on the door " cook wanted" shoulda clued us in. The place was very busy and customers looked a bit grumpy. Our server cheerfully and a bit frantically let us know it was her first day and she had no training. She took our drink orders ( juice and water) and came back with juice and water for one. Hmm. So we grabbed her and got another set. She let us know she was confused by our order. Then we had no menus on our table so we waited a bit longer while she took orders for someone who arrived after we did. And flagged her down for menus. This took some time. When we ordered, the menu says "toppings $1" under french toast. Dining companion asked what these were (not listed on menu) and server did not know. Another server behind counter asked what we needed and I asked her and she said strawberries, blackberries, pineapple or banana. Our new server asked me to repeat them to help her learn them. Companion chose strawberries. I ordered stuffed hash browns and poached eggs. A while went by and the food arrived. Companion's french toast was nice but arrived with a heap of frozen strawberry compote. When he pointed it out to server she noted it came that way and she didn't know she had to do that part. And shrugged. The older gentlemen owner ( Tom) came over and asked what was going on and Companion showed essentially a strawberry iceberg to him. Tom went to kitchen himself and sliced fresh strawberries onto a plate, delivering it to the now frenchtoastless companion who was now eating my hash browns and perfect poached eggs. Companion was offered a second (complimentary) juice. Then the wait began. The owner sat with us and told us his wife was overseas ( she runs the place), he has hired a new cook, and it was the server's second day. He seemed tired and frustrated. He explained the current cook wouldn't refire out of order, that he was rigid, and said if he pushed it he could wind up with no cook. Eventually Companion got his french toast after several other tables got their food ( including french toast btw). They gave him a pile of whipped cream, comped his food, and offered free dessert. They went above and beyond to the extent I feel bad even yelping about it. We were there a LOOONG time though and we know WAYY more about their personnel problems than we should. ( The new server even said stuff to us about the owner and the other server. It was like a Restaurant Rescue episode. Where is Robert Irvine when you need him?). So here is the point of the review, the food is good, the people are nice and mean well, and you might wanna wait a little bit before going in. Till the nice owner lady returns. I've been here 3 times in 10 days. Twice for breakfast, once for lunch. It's an old fashioned diner, from a slower more honest era. If you want to know what food is good, ask your server. If you want to know what food isn't good, ask your server. They'll tell you. And if you listen, you'll figure out that everything on the menu here that is topped with gravy is delicious. The serving sizes are massive, so if you're going for a full meal be prepared. The coffee quality will be at the mercy of your server.. but all 3 waitresses I've had here make sure the cup is always full. If you're taking your time and hanging around, they'll let you. I've also heard two separate tables tell their waitresses they're on their lunch break and need stuff quick, and they accommodated. Literally ask for what you want, and you won't have a bad time here. From a service standpoint, I've yet to have a "two bite check-in," but my food has always been great so that hasn't been a problem. Get the chicken fried steak. read more

This is a small and very cute diner that helps you take a step back in time with very well themed decorations all over. The service was good and and the waiter was friendly when asked about the recommendations. The only issue I had come across was the weird smell around our booth. The food is very classic American Diner with some food items that have a certain twist. I had ordered the spicy scramble with jalapeno's and pineapples. We started with the jalapeno poppers which were crispy and well fried. The scramble was good although I had wished for maybe a little more heat, considering it did come with a warning on the menu. read more

Came in to this cute place for brunch today. The sign said to seat yourself so I took a seat at the bar. The place was pretty crowded and the service was terrible... I sat at the bar for 5-10 min without being greeted... finally stopped someone to ask for water/coffee and a menu... had to stop someone to ask for refills. They have a lot of great stuff on the menu and yummy specials. I ordered the banana bread French toast with 2 eggs and 2 meat. I had my eggs poached and wished I didn't because they weren't cooked very well. The French toast was really good though. I used the Wi-Fi while I was here, which was a plus. And I noticed they have a full liquor bar, also a plus. I will still come back here, but I hope I get better service next time read more

Went to the Blue Moon Diner for breakfast. My husband ordered a side of 2 scrambled eggs and a side of bacon. The bacon came to the table cold! And when we got the bill they charged him $2.99 for the first egg and $2.00 for the second one! Seriously! $4.99 for 2 eggs! We won't be back! read more

Bad business practice! Thursday June 30th, 2022 Called at 8:10pm to check and see if they still served liver and onions, told yes, she said the entrance was only open until 8:30 pm. Open until 9:00pm. Arrived at 8:25pm and the sign still said open but their door was locked. I knocked on the door, meanwhile my husband called her and she said the kitchen was closing down even though she told me they were still accepting customers until 8:30pm. She just repeated the kitchen was closing. We raced out there to get there in time, and even though she knew we were coming they still closed the kitchen early. There was another customer there before us that tried the door before I got out of the car. Will not try them and will not promote them. read more

When everything started closing we decided we would order breakfast from here every weekend to help support our local restaurant. They literally have stepped their breakfast game up even more. Their chicken fried steak is tender and seasoned perfectly. They slightly undercook the eggs so by the time we get home the yolk is runny. And best of all?? THEY SEASON THEIR HASH-BROWNS!!! My partner said he wanted to go have breakfast at a "diner". So we looked around and decided to give this place a try - and wow! This is just about the most diner-y place I've seen in the Portland area. Classic boxcar-style layout, Art Deco themed inside and out, with lots of careful attention to materials used (chrome, vinyl, melamine, tile). It's charming AF. The food is classic stuff, and well-prepared and reasonably priced. The a staff is friendly and attentive. In other words, this place is a winner. We'll be back for a lunch and a dinner sometime, for sure. Highly recommended. read more

This place resulted in disappointed me on a calm January morning. I'll start with the good stuff. They make a nice breakfast bloody Mary. They know what they are doing thematically with the 50s diner setup, which is all chromed out exterior with jukebox hits playing inside. They make a nice chocolate chip pancake for the kids. And now for the rest. They seemed completely understaffed for a weekend day. Our server was polite but overworked. We didn't get drinks to the table until less than five minutes before the food came. No water, nothing, until then. The service wasn't quick from the order point, either. One of my kids ordered Mac and cheese, which was kinda soupy Velveeta in texture. My biscuits and gravy was passable but no more. The stuffed hash browns were ok but pretty soggy, mashed potato texture in the middle. The coffee was not tasty and was never refilled, no refill offered either. In all honesty, probably not going to give this one another shot for awhile. I hadn't been here in 20 years for good reason, it wasn't that good. My wife and I decided it was worth another try and again it wasn't that good. Went for breakfast. She got the banana bread french toast and I had an omelet. The french toast was two small dried out tasteless pieces simply fried up with a small amount of egg...that's it, that was all that was on the plate. My omelet was two watered down eggs with a lot of spinach and a speck of cheese. Add to this the waitress was void of any warmth and personality. I see I am in the minority here but our experience was lack luster. Maybe we will try it in another 20 years. read more
