VERY welcoming. We choose this place at random from my Garmin GPS listing. The are only open for breakfast and lunch. Close @ 1:30 pm on weekdays. Had no clue we arrived @ 1:25! The server said if we ordered by 130 we were OK. Not super knowledgeable about Gluten but it's OK, just stay away from the obvious! Stupid cheap for the quality and portion. Best breakfast in the area. There's no other place you should eat breakfast at if you are in Coeur d'Alene. I am a regular and eat breakfast or lunch 2 or 3 times per month. Waitresses are all great and very friendly. One thing you should know, it's true what other reviewers have commentedon...at the Blue Plate...you have it THEIR way. There is no egg white substitute or white egg omlet, and no, dont show up 5 minutes before close. Otherwise it's a great place for eggs or pancakes for breakfast, or a burger or sandwich for lunch. Nothink fancy. They dont rush you, but you will also be in and out fast if you want. Show up 11:30 or 11:45 if you dont want to wait. Bay noon there's a 10 minute line. read more

My only real beef with this place may have to do with our server vs. a global problem - due to dietary issues in our family we need to use egg substitutes or egee whites. When we inquired about that option on omelets the reply was a firm no we don't do that. Pretty weak if you ask me - separating eggs takes no more than a minute. Super cheap, yet still tastes good. Ordered their specialty breakfast that came with my plate piled high with four types of breakfast meats, eggs, and hash browns. They even gave me a stack of toast on a separate plate. This all cost me little more than $7! It's a great deal! The restaurant is kinda loud though. We ate here years ago on vacation as our son in law said it was the best biscuits and gravy he ever tasted which was true, then finally we moved to CDA 2 years ago along with 4 other family members. We took them all to THE BLUE PLATE to get the great biscuits and gravy that we always told them about, and to our HUGE disappointment, they have changed the gravy recipe. Its has a sweet flavor and its HORRIBLE!!!!! We were so embarrassed that we took them there for that. We had heard their recipe hadn't changed.....that was a crock and a half. Having eaten at the Blue Plate many times I find some of the comments strange. I think some of the people wouldn't be happy any place. There are places that do gluten free so go there! They are a good basic food place. It does not smell like a cat!!! I can't believe the stuff people come up with. I've never seen the staff be anything but nice and accommodating. I'm sure none of the big complainers have never had a bad day on the job or worked in any kind of food service else you might be a little more understanding. No place or person is perfect . Pretty good food, but if you want a side of eggs at lunch or want to add a fried egg to a BLT ... forget about it. They can't be bothered to crack an egg on the griddle at lunch time. Good breakfast joint for the money. I like their food and service but one thing they could improve on is their syrup. It tastes cheap and little true maple syrup flavor, mostly buttery which I do not like at all. I just moved to Idaho and we love mom and pop type of places to eat. This place had such good feedback that it was first on the list to try. We showed up to the cafe just a few minutes under an hour before they closed. The practically threw the menus at us and said "we close soon so hurry and choose before the kitchen won't make it" they locked the door behind us so no one else could come in. I thought they closed at 2 not 1:40. The entire time we waited for our food people were running around cleaning so they didn't have to stay a minute after 2. We felt so rushed an unwelcomed. The atmosphere was nice but we couldn't even enjoy it. The waitress only checked on us once, took our plates before everyone was finished and left the bill. We didn't see her again after she dropped the bill. When I was a waitress it didn't matter if people came in 5 min before we closed, we treated them with the best service we could. I won't be visiting again because of awful customer service. To bad because the food was alright. read more

No complaints, luckily found this place on Yelp as passing through town. My wife and I both got the kitchen sink omelette. We rate everything on a 1-10 scale and gave the omelette a 8.5 & 9 respectively. Bonus, they had a small toy box for our toddler to pick a toy. We got in just in time, got busy after 10AM. read more

We've tried several breakfast places in the area, and this one is by far the best. Love their vege omelette. It's a pretty basic, north Idaho kind of place. So if you want your bacon to come from massaged pigs raised on Mozart, then head 300 miles west. read more
